Good camera quality and stable solution. Used it for 6 months and it’s going strong

Overall the camera is lousy - and at night the whole picture ic cloudy. Basically the camera is useless at night. I have to hard wire the camera as I am not the type to climb a 15 ft ladder to keep charging these in the middle of winter. Hard wiring via POE is only possible via the $30 cable from Wassertein - so factor that into your camera install cost. You need to buy the anti-theft mount as thieves can walk away with the camera (factor that cost as well) - my neighbor just lost 3 of these and the video footage was just cloudy and useless. The magnetic cable connects in a reverse way so the cable looks weird when connected to the camera - almost looks backward. Overall it is not possible to use this equipment for a professional install - you are better of going with Unifi G4 Pro Camera - yes they are expensive but worth it. You get 4K, Full POE to the camera itself, Professional mounting and local DVR and excellent very detailed color video at night. I spent 2.5 weeks with this so called nest camera battery which by the way does not work with the nest application (false advertising by Google). Please save yourself the time and hassle and go with Unifi - their products works and are solid. If you are a professional and need say a 10 camera install - it will cost you close to $2700 with this google nest toy - better to pay $4800 and get a guaranteed to work install with no subscription and better eventing. I really doubt this nest camera battery will out on the market for long - I realize Google just released but because of poor design and overall quality they will trash it.
Hi NestHaze, we appreciate your feedback. We´re sorry to hear that Nest Cam (Battery) features didn't meet your expectations, for your disappointment with the Google Home app.
We understand that you have enjoyed using the Nest app with your Nest cameras. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. The new Nest Cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays.
Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues, but most Night Vision specific issues are caused by the camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near the camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall. Here are some recommended steps that may be helpful with the issue: - Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints, and dirt can cause poor image quality. - Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view. - Use the Google Home app to Zoom and Enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be the cause of the glare. - If a bright white shape along the edge appears while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view. - Move nearby objects that may reflect the infrared light. - Check for possible congestion in your network, by removing some of your connected devices and see if the video quality will improve. If you verify the presence of congestion, upgrading your Internet bandwidth may be required.
If you will allow us, we'd like to work on providing you a better experience with your Nest Cam (Battery). Please feel free reach out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I was excited to add to my Nest security cameras with a battery flexibility option
The product arrived beautifully packaged, and after the normal issue scanning the 3D barcode (must be a very bright room) I was able to connect it to Google Home app
The camera functions as described, but…
This camera is not compatible with the legacy Nest app. You can not add this camera to the tiles to view them all and must view only in the Google Home app
Yes you can see all of your home automation in the Home app, but the Nest thumbnails is obsolete. According to Google, all new products will not be compatible with the Nest app
Hi Tony90703, thanks for having the time to share your feedback with us about your Nest Cam (Battery), and we’re sorry that the camera is not compatible with the Nest app.
We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app, however, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app.
Your feedback helps us better understand our customers’ preferences and needs and we’ll make sure to share it with the right team. If you need help with the Nest Cam, and with using it effectively in the Home app, please feel free to find us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Google is shooting themselves in their own foot with this new series of Nest Cam.
#1 Nest app is way better and easier to use compare to Google home app (as of today)
#2 The battery is really bad if you will like the camera to capture a little more footages, or you will need to recharge it once a week
#3. The video quality compare to previous Nest cam products is worst
With all these key features going backward, I may soon switch to Ring if Google can't get their act together.
Hi there HolyD, thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We´re sorry to hear that the Google Home app, battery and video quality for Nest Cam (Battery) didn't quite meet your expectations.
The new Nest Cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you already have some Nest cameras installed in your home, you may transfer them to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
Nest Cam battery life will depend on factors such as activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
Also, your Nest Cam (Battery) has full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. Keep in mind that it also helps save battery power. We believe that video resolution is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera. However, if the images on your video seem too pixelated or blurry, then we recommend checking on your network for possible congestion as your bandwidth may not be enough to seamlessly connect all your devices, including Nest Cam (Battery). To isolate this issue, we recommend removing all your connected devices and then checking if the video quality for your Nest Cam (Battery) will improve.

I bought my 1st camera July of 2022. Once I received it, the camera was very quick and easy to install and setup. I tried the camera in 2 drastically different areas, but it would only record events that were very close to the camera and only near the bottom or center of the viewable area. I spoke to Google for 2 hours and went through all kinds of technical support options. In the end they offered me a refurbished unit. I declined and as I thought it was defective, so I sent it back to for an exchange. A week later I get the new unit, install everything, and then I have the exact same issues. My wife can walk all the way to her car, get in, and drive away and it will not record the event. The car is ever so slightly off from dead center, and about 15 feet from the camera. It is in good light and uncovered, and it still will not record this event at all. So basically anyone can come up from the sides, or from the main street and steal her car without anything being recorded. Like I said, this is from 2 separate new cameras, and dealing with hours with Google Support, and it still doesn't work as advertised. You're better off getting a deer camera at this point, as at least it will record events.
Hi HootHootWho, thanks for the feedback and for giving us the details of your experience with using the Nest Cam (battery). We can imagine how much time and effort you’ve spent on this, and we regret the inconvenience it has caused you. We’d be happy to share this information along with the right team to work on improving our products and services including how we handle customer concerns with accuracy and efficiency.
Meanwhile, since two cameras in two different areas aren’t recording events or activities, we’d like to have a closer look into this issue to see how we can help improve your experience. If you’re willing to work with us again, please share with us your recent case number here so we can continue our investigation: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Nest WAS the best; now it's time to try the rest.

For the first time ever, I am extremely disappointed in Nest.
This camera refuses to integrate with the Nest app, instead opting to function within the Google Home app. This can lead to a clunky and slow experience, especially in households that utilize numerous smart-home devices.
Image quality is okay at best; needless to say, it's significantly lower than what I'd expect at this price point. Additionally, infrared / night mode quality is abysmal. The IR light seems much less evenly distributed than my older Nest products, causing the image to wash out easily. Varying levels of ambient light didn't seem to resolve the issue to an acceptable level.
Finally, while on-device processing seems great in theory, my usage so far indicates that the device is prone to missing numerous events. Entire days have gone buy thus far where the camera hasn't captured a single clip simply because it didn't realize a human had walked by. I tried to mitigate this by setting the camera to save footage 24/7, but I am currently uncertain if this is even possible unless the device is hardwired.
Hi BLiT, we appreciate you sharing the details of your experience with using the Nest Cam (Battery) and we’re sorry that it’s been difficult for you.
We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. Our teams are working on enabling the ability to set up and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices, and we’re working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices.
You can adjust the video quality settings and let you choose how much of your internet connection gets used by your Google Nest camera or doorbell to stream live video. The higher the quality setting is, the more bandwidth is used.
Also, Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues. But, most Night Vision specific issues are caused by your camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near your camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall. You’ll find some helpful tips that may improve the night vision video quality here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259738
Lastly, your camera runs algorithms to process video and audio data so it can determine whether it detected something you might want to know about. If you only need your camera to detect people, animals, or moving vehicles, we recommend that you do not turn on the basic motion and sound detection feature. You might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity and choose which events your camera can detect and record.
We care about your experience and we’re taking your feedback seriously to work on improving our products and services. If you’re willing, you may visit us anytime at the following link and we’d be happy to help: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

It is mind blowing that Google would launch such utter garbage. This camera is lightyears BEHIND the previous versions (IQ and even the original nest outdoor, which were and still are excellent products). The app support and user experience are atrocious. The video quality is poor. The battery life is poor. The integration with other Nest products is terrible. What was Google thinking? Since migrating Nest over to Google home, it has been a steady downhill slide. After investing MANY THOUSANDS in the nest ecosystem for my home, Google has bastardized the entire platform. Such a terrible disappointment in this hardware AND the changes Google is making to the platform/ecosystem/experience. They should have left a good thing alone, but instead ruined something that didn't need to be fixed in the first place.
Hi SGFL1979, thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear that the Google Home app, video quality and battery life for Nest Cam (Battery) didn't meet your expectations.
We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your other Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
The video quality issues you are experiencing may be caused by connectivity issues in your network. Here are some suggested troubleshooting steps you can try out: - Check your Nest camera's distance from the router or access point. - Restart your Nest Cam (Battery). Locate the reset button on the back of the camera. Press and hold for 5 seconds. Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white. - Restart your router. - Check for interference. Almost every network is subject to wireless interference which can cause problems when connecting your camera to the Google Home app. Check for any wireless interference that may be caused by thick walls and floors, competing Wi-Fi networks, from other electronics in your home. - Check for possible congestion. Removing some of your devices that's connected to your network may help relieve some bandwidth space.

Hi there, user198543. We appreciate your feedback on the Nest Cam (battery), and we’re sorry to hear about your experience with some of your cameras.
Checking for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the cameras and your router can help, as these items could block the connection. If you have a good Wi-Fi connection but the camera is offline, this can happen if the device gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these: - Your camera should not be exposed to direct sunlight - Avoid placing your camera near objects that can cause overheating like light bulbs, lamps, large equipment/appliances, air vents, etc. Your camera needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating. - If mounted outdoors, you can install it under an eave or overhang, or even install a small shade above it.

This camera is designed to be placed at 6-6.5 feet high. Just the right height for someone to grab it and walk off with it; it's only attached by a magnet! What google engineer thought this was a good design for a security camera? It's laughable.
The Nest app is good but this camera will not work in it... It only works in the google app which does not support all Nest products. If you have Nest smoke detectors you will need to have two app.
The google app is more annoying than worthwhile. The Nest app will send a notification and image from cameras to my watch. All new Nest cams are not supported in the Nest app so you must use the google one which sends notifications but no images to my watch. Who at google thought it was a good idea to annoy customers by notifying them but making them NEED to open the app to see an image?!?!? That one image lets me know if it is someone I know, don't know, or a delivery. The google app is a joke.
Hi JetCityPD, thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We´re sorry to hear about your concerns that your Nest Cam (Battery) might get stolen, and your disappointment with the Google Home app.

Do not purchase these cameras. They are sold and marketed as Nest products, but they are not. Google has used the Nest name to sell inferior products. I purchased two of these cameras during the pre-order period and I did not have the benefit of reading reviews. I was also not aware that there was only a 15 day return period and Google will not let me return them (I was late by a day). I purchased the cameras directly from Google and not from Best Buy.
The cameras do not work with the Nest app. You have to use the Google Home app, which provides limited functionality compared to the Nest app. You also can't view these cameras on a computer - only through the app.
The picture quality is not as good as the Nest cameras I have. The camera always seems to want to go into night mode even during the middle of the day. When you zoom in on the picture it becomes heavily pixelated due to the low resolution.
The cameras are marketed as battery powered and wireless, but if you don't plug the cameras into an outlet you cannot have 24/7 recording like a true Nest camera does.
I would not recommend these cameras to anyone that already has Nest cameras as you will not be happy with them.
Hi there, we really appreciate you for sharing your feedback about the Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to learn of your issues and with its features, with its functionality in the Google Home app, and with the return period.
While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. We understand that long time Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app, however, our priority with this launch was to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant.
Also, you can adjust the video quality in settings to balance high resolution video with longer battery life and lower bandwidth use. For optimal video quality at 1080p, an internet connection upload speed with at least 2 Mbps per camera is recommended (DSL may not qualify). Please check the steps below: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - Select your camera. - Tap Settings Video. - Under “Video quality,” tap High.
We’ll make sure to share your feedback along with the right team to work on improving our products and services.
