Disappointed with night vision

The main reason I wanted this camera was to see what was going on around our bird feeder at night. I guess I chose the wrong camera.

The other camera had to be attached to magnet to find the proper location. Cams wouldn't trigger until the person was well past my vehicle. Sometimes the cams wouldn't trigger at all. 1 battery was draining really fast

Your camera runs algorithms to process video and audio data so it can determine whether it detected something you might want to know about. If your Nest Cam (Battery) isn't able to recognize people and trigger notifications, you might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. We also recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription and get Intelligent alerts to give you better awareness of what’s happening around your home. The battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery), is affected by factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20-25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9-12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2-4 recorded events per day)
It's important to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). They never last and depending on where they are mounted you have to take them down to charge. And if you are out of town and they die you are out of luck. What's the point.

It can be used with a set of various power accessories including two weatherproof cables with power adapter (sold separately), of 16 ft and 33 ft in length. If you find it more convenient connecting to continuous power that will keep the battery charged, which is required to get 24/7 video history if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, we suggest using the weatherproof cable since the included power adapter is not intended for outdoor use.

Whenever I wanted to see anything on the camera I had to go into the app and turn the camera on. I did not get any alerts that there was movement or people there. If they keep these and get rid of the older cameras it looks like I will need to find a new set of cameras to use. Sad I had such high hopes for these.

We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your other Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
Nest cameras determine when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your camera may not send an alert if the following is true:
- The activity is out of your camera’s field of view.
- An object is blocking the camera’s view.
- The camera is very far away from the activity.
- The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.
To troubleshoot the issue, we recommend moving your Nest Cam (Battery) by changing your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.
