Premium at a Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE BREAKDOWN: Let’s begin by saying that I have looking forward to the combination of a high end Android tablet and combining that with the keyboard to get the premium Chromebook multitasking features. I have been saying for the last few years image if you had high end laptop but could also detach the screen and use it like a tablet, best of both worlds right!! The packaging was very well done and like opening high end merchandise. In the box was everything needed to get this product up and running. After turning it on and plugging it up to power I was up and running quickly. With signing in and all the updates it still only took a few minutes. Let's start off with price, at $999 and add a keyboard at $199 puts you at the $1200 premium range. One thing that is lacking is the availability of LTE to be able to use it on the road. I really like the look and feel of the Pixel Slate. It has the flat bak and slim line bezels and had a really nice 12.3 inch screen. The screen have a beautiful resolution with a 6 million pixel display. The colors are very bright and vibrant. The performance was excellent, I felt that pages loaded fast and all my apps performed well. I enjoyed watching hours of streaming videos on all the popular platforms with vibrant rich colors. The battery life for me was around 13 hours which is higher than their rating of 12 hours. I also found that it does not get hot or overheat after using for hours at time. The tablet has 2 USB-C ports one at the end of each long side. It also has a volume rocker button on the left side and above that is the power button that can also unlock the device by using your fingerprint. One thing to note is that this is the only fingerprint option that I found it uses. It doesn’t use it in apps or purchases that I have found. Lastly, the operating system. I have found this iteration of the OS Google has made many improvements but for me they still needs some work. Most of the apps seem to work on the Pixel Slate but there are those that were designed for just phones that really look bad when they are displayed on this 12.3 inch screen. One last note is that when trying to do split screen with apps and chrome tabs it seems difficult and buggy. PRO’s: -Very well built and stylish -Setup was quick and easy -12.3 inch display -6 million pixel display -8th gen Intel i5 processor -128GB SSD -Pixel Imprint -Excellent battery life CON’s: -Price -Multitasking split screen -OS still needs work -No LTE SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product is really good and has a great fit and finish. I like all the features, and I feel that there is definitely some room for improvement from Google. For other devices in this price range I feel that this one just isn’t up to the standard for this price point. I would definitely recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for something like this.

A hybrid Chromebook and Android tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Build quality is fantastic, made out of a single slab of aluminum. The buttons are clicky and the FO sensor is fast. Screen is awesome. It's one of the best screens you'll see on a device like this. It's fast, oh so fast! With it running on chrome everything is smooth and has no hiccups. Nothing really comes close to the speed of this. Android apps can be used on this. Speakers, these are fantastic and rival others and best them In a lot of ways. 2 USB C ports, when other companies think just one is enough when it's not, Google come up with the goods. Cons: Price, it is very expensive for what it is It's a Chromebook but more mobile and while it can use Android apps it can still be a little limiting. Android apps, you get some odd behavior with some and some just flat out don't work and force close like Facebook. Expensive accessories. For the keyboard and stylus that will set you back another $300. Overall it's a nice unit, it's a Chromebook and if that's what you are wanting then this will not disappoint

Disappointed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was one of the early adopters for the Google Pixel C. While I did use it for a short duration it did suffer from some of the shortfalls that I was hoping the Slate would rectify. Unfortunately not so much. This is my first experience with a ChromeOS device. I really wanted to like this device but to me it came up short in several categories in spite of the great specs and to be fair I’ve owned a Mac or two and didn’t care for them either. What I liked: + Screen resolution is fantastic. Crisp and clear. + Speedy performance - while using applications the system bounded from app to app easily. + Size, the 12.3” screen is perfect for working on spreadsheets++ + Solid! It is built like a tank. No flex. + Looks/styling! Love the satin black finish What I hate and I do mean hate!!!!: - Google, please tell me why you won’t put a micro SD slot in your products!!!!! 128GB for a PRO device… I suspect that means that you are targeting professionals to use this as a work computer replacement. Unlike some of your Android competitors you chose to force users to go to the cloud. Unfortunately that might not always be possible so you are hamstringing your customers with only 128GB. Many of the forums I checked said the solution is to use the USB C male to USB A female dongle and use a flash drive or a flash drive with USB C male connector. Ummmm…. That’s not a solution, that’s a terrible work around. - Yes, I know it’s ChromeOS but you opened up the Google Play library to load Android apps yet there are a lot of apps that are not compatible with the Slate… namely I would have loved to use my Slate to take advantage of watching movies on my last United flight, which requires you to use their United App or use a browser but the plugin won’t load. Yes, realize that it’s really the app publisher at fault but doing a psuedo Android device is not the best of both worlds. - No headphone jack. Again forced to use a dongle or go bluetooth. - Connectivity - the biggest issue I have with the Slate, by far! Seriously, I have never had so many connectivity issues with a device. I tried to log into our company wifi but while it showed as connected I could never get to the authorization or login page. Same with my current hotel stay. I connected but couldn’t get to the authorization screen. My Note 9 connected immediately as did my company laptop and my true Android tablet. Frustrated beyond belief. - Price… seriously, this is not a $1000 device. I just picked up a Dell XPS13 (2018 version for less that this one retails, granted it was on sale). The value for the dollar… not even close. - The keyboard, well it’s okay but just barely. A separate review forthcoming on that and the pen. All in all I can not recommend the Slate running ChromeOS at the current price point and especially the 256GB version that hovers close to $1500 without keyboard and pen. You would be much better off purchasing from Brand M or Brand S. I just don’t have that warm fuzzy of trying to use this as a laptop replacement for work. There is a beta of Linux that you can switch to but is currently in Beta and lacks support for any peripherals. Lack of a micro SD slot is a big downer for me as well.

Expensive piece of....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been using the slate for a good few months now and experience has been nothing but bad! Not a well thought of device with a LOT of bugs! There is NOTHING good about this. I've reported so many bugs. Not all the apps in the google play store support and they just crash! The only thing this device does a decent job is browsing the internet and paying $1000 plus was a complete waste of money and paying $150 for the keyboard (Brydge) is another overhead. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. Chrome OS can be used much better other Chromebooks for MUCH lower costs.
