Ok so I didn't really know what to expect When I purchased this game. I never mastered Guitar Hero when I was a kid. I'm not really a "gamer". I had recently bought an XBOX One for my husband as a Christmas gift and he could not wait to play Guitar Hero on it. So the first thing we noticed were the buttons were really different and there are new challenges they've thrown in there with the bar chords. We did the tutorial and then it felt like we were just thrown into the game. We thought it was too different from the original version which we loved. It was almost impossible for us to get the hang of it. So we decided to return it. WHICH turned out to be impossible. So after the headache we decided to take it home and try it again. After exploring some of the other options it turns out that the game is REALLY COOL. We had no idea about the Guitar Hero Tv feature. You'll never run out of music! It's great because with the original Guitar Hero you got a certain list of songs and you'd play them til you got tired of them. You can even unlock an endless amount of songs from your favorite artists. I like the game mode as well. You play gigs with your live band, 3 or 4 songs per set. If you're good your live audience cheers. If you suck... the audience boos you and your band mates get pretty mad that you're bombing it. So overall it's a keeper. I'm glad we gave it a second chance and it's great for parties. The experience is a little more authentic. You feel like you're really playing the music now as opposed to just hitting some colored buttons like before.

as a fan of the Guitar Hero ive had several guitars on the xbox 360 and ps3. after so many games i am used to the 4 button across layout... turns out this one is 3 across with 2 rows. causes serious confusion since i am so used to the old button layout. this isnt a negative on the game itself but it negates all my learning done for all the other games. great songs, great feel. once im used to the buttons ill be much better but be warned that if youre used to the old buttons you might be in for a surprise.

I've only had this game for 24 hours but I love it already. The new guitar is so very different from the old one. I never had a problem with the traditional five colored button system, but I've never played a real guitar. The new set up is taking some getting used to but so far I like it.
The graphics on this game are absolutely stunning! I can't get over the quality. I like the main solo game play and the idea of sets. Although that is an adjustment too seeing as I am used to a break in between songs. I've had to scrabble at the beginning of songs more than once. GHTV is fun too! I like the always on option and the constant rotation of random songs. I really like the competitive aspect of it.
Overall it's a great game and I think with the addition of GHTV we will get new songs without having to buy a new game.

Guitar Hero Live is a fun game that switches up its presentation and how you play the game. It's tough learning how the new guitar works but after 30 minutes you can start crushing songs on the easier difficulty and start upping the difficulty. The career mode is a bit gimmicky to say the least with it being all live action, but a cool idea nonetheless. It's when you unlock Guitar Hero TV where the magic happens. GHTV is a music video streaming service that updates its playlist everyday to keep everything new and fresh. Basically you pick a genre ranging from rock, pop and so on and it'll curate a playlist based on what you picked, think of Pandora or Spotify. This is where my time got lost. The career mode is fun for a bit but the on disc song list is a bit lacking. But when you launch GHTV, the music seems endless, until you reach the end of the playlist they had for the day, but you can come back the next day and play it again with a whole new set list of songs. If you're a fan of GH or rhythm games in general , the new guitar this game comes with and GHTV are reason enough to give it a shot.

After playing the game for the first few songs, it was extremely challenging which is good although sometimes frustrating when they don't teach you a specific button combo and it pops up in the first song.
However after playing through some sets and getting used to the controls I took to the online portion. It's extremely addicting! Constantly you find yourself saying "ahh i'll play one more." then you look down at the clock and it's 4 AM.
For someone who plays mostly sports and FPS games this is a good change of pace game to just hang out and play some songs since i'm musically challenged it's fun to pretend I can actually play the guitar.
If you are a fan of Guitar Heroes past, you'll enjoy the game once you finally get into it as the tutorials take some time. Especially with the online mode.
One other thing I loved is the fact that I don't have to spend real money to play songs not on the disk by earning plays, that's phenomenal! Plus the library is ever expansive. While I was playing there were new songs added, then more songs added the next day when I got home from work.
Overall it's a Guitar Hero Game, but they definitely made improvements.

There a lot of negative and positive reviews on this game and I think it's necessary for me to write one. I am a die hard GH fan. I was used to the 5 color buttons on the old guitar, and have played all the old games so many times I could play them in my sleep. I believe the new guitar is refreshing as it allows me to be a newbie all over again and I enjoy the challenge of the new 6 button guitar. I also think the game itself is a lot of fun. I like having the choice of playing the game itself or the GHTV option, which allows you to play competitively against others. I think if there is any complaint to be made whatsoever about this game, it's the music. GUITAR HERO IS MEANT FOR ROCK AND METAL!!!!! I have no idea why but whoever was in charge of the song choices did a poor job in my eyes. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of good music, however there is way more that just doesn't belong in the game. I love Eminem but his music isn't made for GH, nor any other rap really for that matter. Other than that, GREAT GAME!!!! So that's my advice, take it or leave it....

I love this game!
I have been a fan of Guitar Hero since it first came out years ago, though I fell off once they turned into a band game. The new guitar is awesome and comes as close to playing real guitar as you can get without becoming Rocksmith.
The song selection for the single player mode is OK, but it's still fun no matter what due to the unique experience. For this mode instead of you picking a cartoon-ish looking character you are in first person perspective and apart of different cover bands. You play in front of huge crowds that will cheer or boo based on your performance. The change is seamless and seeing how wild the bands get during performances is really fun.
The big selling point though is Guitar Hero TV. This is the online component where you select a streaming channel that plays music videos while you perform the songs. They have 30 - 60 minute blocks dedicated to different genres and you get paired up with 9 other players and ranked based on score and performance. It's incredibly easy to just get lost in the different blocks of music and plays for hours strumming along and ranking up.
If you get one music based game this year, make is Guitar Hero Live!

If you haven't heard by now, this plays differently from the Guitar Hero of the past. Whereas the new Rock Band has stuck to the tried-and-true formula of old, here in Guitar Hero Live the button layout is different and instead of animated characters we are treated to either live people or music videos. From my experience it's fun for new players and challenges fans of the old guitar games. If you like GH or RB and wouldn't mind mixing it up a little, you might like this.
If you have Xbox Live Gold there are more differences to experience.
The good: there is a vast library of music videos to play along with in a variety of genres. It keeps going so you can play for hours and keep encountering new music.
The bad: as for now, we can no longer truly own and DLC. So buying songs to keep and replay is not an option. But you can earn tokens (or of course pay real money) to play a song on demand.
FYI, you can buy this at Best Buy this Black Friday for a much lower price than you can find the new Rock Band anywhere.

I love this game. I do miss the animated graphics of the original, but the gameplay makes up for it. I also like the new controller. Be careful, the first day I played the game one of the buttons on the controller stopped working, but didn't have any trouble exchanging the game.

Guitar Hero: Live is a very fun game. It's been a while since I could say that about a game. Don't let the internet dissuade you from this game with the buzzword "microtransactions."
Pros:
- The Live shows are very aesthetically pleasing
- GHTV is a fun way to play hundreds of songs for free.
- Microtransactions are not at all necessary to play the songs you want. You can play 2 channels at the moment; one specializing in Rock and Metal, and the other in Pop.
Cons:
- On-disc set list is very weak.
- No way to easily restart songs on GHTV to practice them.
Overall, this game is already a fun package with plenty of potential to grow in the future. Do a little research about the songs available on GHTV to see if this game is right for you.

The game itself is awesome! I like the fact that i's first person and playing to an actual crowd vs the previous graphics. It's new and exciting. The only issue I had was that the guitar with not calibrating with the black notes (I exchanged it and the second guitar works fine). Also, there were songs that would skip in audio while playing. Sounded if I was losing signal from a radio station. It last about 5 seconds. A little bit annoying. But overall. It's a good game.

Many improvements have been made to the controller accept for navigating the Xbox One home screen, and the concert modes look and play amazingly. Songs are not extremely impressive unless you were born after 2000. There are micro transactions, so never buy this game. Seriously, if we stop buying this **** they'll stop doing it. Instead, rent it every once and awhile on the weekends about two years from now when the guitars decline in price and the DLC (which is also gaming cancer) has been released and refined.
I only bought because I plan to sell it before the resale value drops. That combined with the GCO offers and preorder reward means I get to play for ~free. If you don't have Gamers Club Unlocked urdoinitrong.

I was the first to be skeptical skeptical about her new guitar hero but after seeing the new controller I was in. the campaign doesn't support multiplayer which is how you unlock free play songs to play with a friend. The new guitar hero TV is a constantly playing music video streaming service which has hundreds of songs from day one and it will continue to update. This is wherr most people will sp3nd their time i think. There are no drums or bass but vocals csn be done with a usb microphone or the gh live free app. Overall not the best guitar hero but a very good step in the right direction and a fun game worth your time if you want a music game

Coming from being able to 5* every song on expert on all previous GH titles to GhLive. All I have to say is the new challenge is fantastic. At first I thought it was sad that I wasn't as good as I used to be but with a few days practice I'm 1 lvl under Max difficulty and am 4-5* most songs. It is more challenging to master but the reward and feeling you get for getting that streak and mastering the chord changes is a lot more fun. Give it a try and don't give up straight away. :) The 4* is because I can't 1v1 someone online and see their track. It's more of a party of 10 playing the same song and the scores if all are kept to the side.

This game is a classic but now totally different. The new guitar is wonderful. Song selection is just "ok" but GHTV with on demand music is great. Jump right into a song a earn coins and rewards. Definitely better than rock band (if guitar is what you want to play).

this game is great to play it with friends, at first I ordered just one guitar controller, but ended up buying a second one to play with my friends. the new buttons feel good, and gives a sensation of playing an actual guitar as they are one above the others, like doing a scale, highly recommend this game.

This reimagined return to the guitar hero world starts you in the middle of the action and does not let up. The gameplay is fun and well thought out, but definitely differs in places from previous titles in the series. The updated guitar feels easier to play, and the difficulty settings are much better tuned. Definitely worth the money.

This Guitar Hero is phenomenal! They did a wonderful job making this game. The new button layout makes for a more enjoyable playing experience with more thinking involved while playing. Easier for beginners to pick up, and harder for veterans to master. Two big thumbs up! Very good game.
