I received this game at release and have been playing ever since. Only issue is that I never got and email with the Decimus pack code that came with my purchase. Really mad about that, but the game and statue are amazing

Halo wars is back and the gameplay is fantastic. There are new units to try out and new powers to unleash on your enemy. It seems very balanced. The developers made it very difficult to successfully rush people if a good defense strategy is used. There is definitely a lot more critical thinking involved in the game than the first Halo Wars.
The story is good, but seems to end rather abruptly on a cliffhanger that shouldn't be there. It felt like we got half the story, and I was unimpressed with this lazy attempt at pushing out a story.
Blitz mode is a very interesting new game type, requiring you to save and spend points of unit cards to deploy them on the battlefield. You and your team need to get points by holding capture zones longer than your enemy. It is fast paced, with games that don't usually last longer than five minutes.

Let me start by saying the first Halo Wars was a lot of fun for me. That being said, this version is even better. The campaign is a lot of fun and more interesting than the original as well as the skirmish mode. Those are my two favorite types of pay. The multiplayer online is better than the first game but I still do not like these kinds of games with online play. It just isn't fun for me. The graphics are great as well as the story line in the campaign. I would recommend this if you enjoyed the first Halo Wars

Good game with it multiplayer and campaign modes. Opening up blitz card packs is a great addition. Includes both the season pass and full original Halo Wars Difinitive ed, which will be sold separately later in the year. Adding both games playable on console and windows 10 is a plus

Halo Wars 2 isn't a huge departure from the first game. It's a realtime strategy game whose controls are largely accessible on an XBox One controller—no small feat. The big change for Halo Wars 2 is a mode called Blitz, which is a bit of a pay-to-win game, but a blast still.
In Blitz, you choose a leader who has a deck of 10 different cards (units), and use energy given over time or that spawns on different locations on the map. Your goal is to control more points on the map than the opposing team. Games are usually fast and furious (many under 5 minutes) with the occasional game running down the clock. You can buy card packs to further improve your decks—hence pay-to-win—or you can unlock packs through daily and weekly quests and leveling up. It's not a perfect game type, but I've lost a lot of hours to it with a few friends accompanying me.

Halo Wars contains both single player and multiplayer. Single player lasts around 7-8 hours depending on the difficulty chosen. Great visuals! Multiplayer is similar as Halo Wars, with an extra mode called Blitz. Fun and addicting!

Excellent turn for the series while keeping the main mechanics. I completed the campaign after a few days, and it was both nostalgic and new as I recalled the mechanics quickly while enjoying some of the roller coaster type sections thrown in. If you are a gears fan or enjoy a cover-based third person shooter, I'd highly recommend it.
I will admit I'm not a big multiplayer person, as I often find that I fall behind to the competition due to little time to play and practice, so I cannot comment much on that perspective. With that said, you will receive training for "Horde Mode" during the campaign by having to prepare for hordes of enemies to come in timed increments. Therefore, you can get a taste of whether or not you would enjoy the coop multiplayer while completing the campaign itself.

I really like this game as its an amazing follow up to the first one and the story is really good. Its engaging and well put together. The game itself is really fun and if you like strategy games you should check this game out. The game does demand of you to be aware of multiple things and be able to manage them all rather quickly, but it just takes a little getting used to doing it on the controller. Overall this a great game and I recommend it to anyone who loves Halo or strategy games.

Halo Wars 2 comes out an an odd time and it doesn't necessarily scream quintessential AAA 1st party exclusive from MS, especially in a time when looking down the pike, us Xbox folks see nothing.
Having said all that the cutscenes are top notch and the gameplay is solid. Surprised that Creative Assembly managed to fit some many controls on the gamepad but it works well enough. I'd definitely recommend this title to any fans of the RTS genre or fans of the Halo universe.

Real Time Strategy games are hard to come by these days, even more so on consoles. Halo Wars 2 is a fun RTS whether you are playing the campaign or hopping online to battle with friends. I would highly recommend it if you are fan of the genre and have an Xbox One. As an added bonus if you get the Ultimate Edition you get Halo Wars 1 as well as the season pass, well worth the extra cost.

Great build up, lacked in Atriox/Cliffhanger story

First two cinematic scenes were amazing, interesting build up to the conflict the crew must face against Atriox; and a threat with a deep and complex backstory. After that, we don't see much of Atriox until the end. Atriox's character was better developed than those in Halo 5 (Osiris), but we didn't get to see it in the present game. Both he an Cutter, I feel, were the two anchors that could have solidified the story if they only had more interactions whether in the game or the cut-scenes. Thus the cliffhanger, there is no resolution nor a sense of satisfaction upon completing the campaign since it is nothing more than a set up for Halo 6. I understand a set up for a future title was desired, but at the sacrifice of a game's story is a shame. Gameplay was great, stressful at times but I thought it was necessary, it was successful in making me feel the overwhelming odds against me versus a powerful enemy. Multiplayer works just as well, and fun to play. The new strategies and style of gameplay make it entertaining every match. Were it not for the other aspects of this game I would have given this game three stars.

Console players often write off RTS games. They shouldn't. This is excellent. Controls are well adapted to work with a console controller for a style of game that usually requires a mouse and keyboard. Micromanaging can get a bit rough though, but it's doable. Also a great single player story mode.

Halo Wars 2 takes everything from the original and improves upon it. Notably the story is a fascinating take on the halo universe. Multiplayer is the reason gamers will enjoy this game the most. With new modes and leaders this is a must have for any halo fan.

The single player was fun a little filler and sometimes I felt the story lost me a bit with lack of cut scenes made the story feel disconnected at times. The mp is fun and exciting but the blitz firefight mode is a waste of time because you gain no exp.+

This is a great real time strategy game for the console marred by an overall complex storyline arc, but great controls and gameplay make up for it. The new blitz mode is a welcome addition if you only have a few minutes to play as well.

I've noticed this game has received a lot of unjustified criticize since it's release -- that the maps are "too small" and very little strategy is needed to win. While the maps are smaller than your typical RTS, this was done intentionally to match the game up well with console-style controls. And I can't agree with the critiques of the game's difficulty. On Normal or Easy mode the game doesn't take much strategy, but play the game on Heroic or Legendary and you units/base will be wiped out quickly without a good strategy in place.
I've really enjoyed my time with the game. It's far deeper than the original, and it look and runs surprisingly well on the Xbox One hardware. I've also enjoyed going back and playing the remaster of the original game. If you love RTS but don't have a PC, this game is great!

RTS on Console

RTS has always been a territory of the PC... with a couple exceptions. Battle for Middle Earth 2 comes to mind. The first Halo Wars. XCOM, Supreme Commander.
It's just not a genre you think of when you think of the console.
But this works well. The controller layout is intuitive and you never feel like you can't get your teams organized. Some will not like it because it is kind of hard to wrap your head around an RTS on a console, but if you enjoy RTS games, and you enjoy Halo, then check it out, you may find that you like it. Try the demo on the xbox store, and if it fits your likes, grab the deluxe copy to get the season pass and the first game included. Great deal Best Buy.

Always enjoyed playing RTS games and glad they made a new one. This one has a good campaign, haven't delved into the multiplayer yet but I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as much as the campaign.

Fun RTS on the X1. Great follow-up to the first. Controls well and on-line is pretty decent if you're into that sort of thing. Personally, I just wanted it for the campaign, which is really fun.
