Hisense Refuses to Repair a Defect
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TV worked great out of the box. Solid picture for the price. Then the firmware updates started happening. Now HDMI ARC is broken, and Hisense is refusing to do anything about it. Support has not been helpful, and the contracted tech they (Hisense, not Geek Squad) sent out told Hisense that there was no issue, despite the issue being present.

Extremely Poor Latency Issues.
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to get this TV home and set up. At first, the product worked as expected and was great. I would say that within about 6 weeks we started to notice a lot of latency or video delay when streaming content. After some serious menu digging and on-line research I found that this TV is only available with 4GB of processing memory/storage and that 3GB is used for the Android OS. With only 1GB of memory for android applications to run and for streaming capabilities, the latency would continue and eventually get to the point that you could not use it for anything but live television or a gaming console. We gave it to the kids to use with their Xbox and now use a neighbors 43inch Samsung LED TV he was throwing out, it works much better and has no latency issues. I would not recommend this product line to anyone until they either provide more storage or separate memory for the TV OS and applications.

the MOST bang for every 4k buck even at higher $$$
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hisense 2019 55H8F (HAT4KDTV) 4.8/5 *-s The 2019 H8F (aka HAT4KDTV) is Hisense's "entry level" 4k ULED SmartTV which runs on AndroidTV 8.0(Oreo). For all the disrespect heaped on Hisense in previous years, some of it well earned, don't dismiss Hisense or the H8F in 2019 based on "entry 4k" positioning, relative to the higher tiered 2019 Hisense (H9F and U9F) models or the low SRP. (The "entry" H8F easily bests Hisense's 2018 flagship model H9E+.) Hisense is not only delivering the most bang for every 4k SmartTV buck in 2019, it rivals, if not outperforms the competition that's charging 2-3 times as much (while those other makers sometimes deliver significantly fewer features and less performance for their premium prices). Each 2019 Hisense ULED 4k SmartTV is a unique combination of a truly innovative VA LED panel (design and manufacturing process), a customized MediaTek System-on-Chip (SoC), a dedicated multi-core ARM GPU, all wedded to a panel-specific Hi-View Picture Quality (PQ) engine that drives each model/unit to outstanding levels of picture quality, not just "for the price." That matrix combines to create Hisense's "ULED," where every pixel, in every scene, in every frame is being fully leveraged. This review of the 55" H8F/HAT4KDTV will be extended in detailed Comments that I will append to this review stub. What follows are the major subjects that will be addressed in detail: MediaTek MT5886 SoC, ARM Mali-450MP GPU Hisense ULED VA panel technology Dolby Vision and HDR10 Upscaling 1080 SDR to 4k HDR "Enhanced Viewing"/Automatic Content Recognition (cloud-based Picture/Audio Mode AI) Dolby ATMOS, H8F audio DAC & internal speakers OTA DigitalTV google Assistant & Amazon Alexa AndroidTV issues (8.0/Oreo) H8F moire and no moire 7 reasons not to buy an H8F... (I will not be addressing dimensions, weight, stand leg spacing, wall mounting or physical ports inventory. Hisense isn't beng coy about any of those details.) To summarize, in advance of all the pending details, I highly endorse the 2019 H8F/HAT4KDTV, not only as an "entry level" 4k WCG, HDR10, Dolby Vision and ATMOS-passthrough SmartTV, but also as a most bang-for-the-buck 4k buy. The seven reasons not to buy are not at all exclusive to the H8F. They also apply to a large swath of the competition, even at higher price points. So, should any of those seven caveats apply to you, you will need to look hard and pay substantially more to best the H8F. Continue your own research, then decide for your self. Cheers!

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV looks great in the store. It also has great features that are hard to find at it's price point. However, anytime a dark image is near a light image there is a ton of "bleed" and it looks awful. I tried some recommended settings found on reviews, it helped but not enough. We returned the TV and went with something else

Great Value with loads of features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hisense - 55" Class - LED - H8F Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR. This will be my second Hisense TV and so far, the first one has performed very well. Hisense is a common brand and one of the top TV manufactures worldwide. I found this to be a budget friendly TV with a few highlights that make it a excellent entry level choice in its class. The star attraction here is the highly regarded Dolby Vision picture technology. This is very similar to the other common HDR10 standard. This TV supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 right out of the box. It also has local dimming on the backlighting which gives you even better contrast. HDR content either Dolby Vision or HDR10 has to originate from the start. You can steam HDR Dolby Vision content but don’t expect to find it on your local cable stations. To see this TV is all of its possible glory you would need to play an UHD Disk with a UHD Disk player that both supported HDR content in either HDR10 or Dolby Vision. Standard HD content still looks very good on this TV so although you won’t have HDR content all the time you can take advantage of it when you do. Generally, the HDR content we will watch will be streamed. For your internet connection you have the choice of the built in wired or wireless connections. I used the wireless and was initially impressed with its performance. As I moved the TV around, I had some streaming issues but overall, I would rate its wireless performance as good. It has two USB ports and one is a USB 3.0 so that is a useful addition. It should provide faster speeds and it can put out a little more power to the connected device. It has a 3.5mm headphone or line out jack which is never a bad thing to have. It also supports sending audio out through one of the HDMI connections with its ARC support. You even get a digital audio out connection which altogether gives you a pretty flexible amount of connection options. And I didn’t mention all four HDMI ports are full UHD 60Hz compatible. The TV has its own built in Google Android TV. You can use any other smart TV interface you want. Setup on Android was very quick and both the TV itself and Android TV automatically updated. I ended up with Android 8.0 with a January 2019 security update. I hope the TV continues to receive timely updates and is something to be watching for over time. Although I felt the TV itself was a bland cabinet design there is much more here that I could still talk about and haven’t explored. The remote is very comfortable and the controls for the Android TV interface are very well thought out. The remote has some learning capability but something that is missing is good documentation. Expect to go to the Hisense website and download the manual if you want to dig in deeper on what all is here. It even appears each of the picture modes can be adjusted and even calibrated. Maybe not something most would attempt but hints at what is possible. I was even impressed with the audio just from the TV. On a good wireless or wired network, you could set this TV anywhere. Plug it in to an outlet and you’re ready for movie night. It is a bit big to be moving around much but it’s not a heavy TV either. I will say the license agreement during the first part of the setup was a bit much and I have very mixed feelings about that subject. Still taken on its own this is a very good TV with a ton of truly value adding features that all work together well.

Excellent TV with great features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is probably all the TV anyone needs, and at a fantastic price. Think of a feature that a TV could have, and this one has it. Key at this low price are 64 zone local dimming, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and wide color gamut. It is ready for the foreseeable future. The sound is typical for a TV these days, nothing much to say about that however one feature I haven't seen before is an equalizer to adjust the frequency balance of the sound. Get a sound bar and you are good to go. For a LCD screen, this TV has an extremely wide field of view. There is virtually no falloff of screen brightness or color balance as you move from side to side or up and down. Probably the best I have seen except for plasma or OLED, and it's not really far off from those. In addition having 4 high-speed 4k HDMI ports is awesome. Plus wired Ethernet along with WiFi. This is my second HiSense TV and in my opinion they provide great value for the money.

Great picture, good sound. Nice value!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the picture on this Hisense TV is excellent, especially at this price. The picture is clear edge-to-edge, and the minimal bezel makes for an immersive experience. No apparent bleed at the edges. Blacks are deep and colors vibrant. Sound is average, but acceptable for a smaller room. We attached a Denon sound bar and it works well with this TV. Besides the usual HDMI jacks, this TV has the old style RCA inputs, which is great for older game consoles and camera. Thanks for including that! The TV is powered by Android, so apps come from the Google Play store. Most common premium channel apps are available, but no Amazon Prime for some reason. :( You can control the TV using the Android TV app on your phone. You can also cast to the TV from many apps (but if you are a Comcast Xfinity subscriber, most premium channel apps won't work and casting doesn't work from the Xfinity Stream app either). The TV is fairly responsive to commands on the remote, with some lag. I could not get Google Voice to work on the command line, however. It activates and deactivates too quickly. This TV is an excellent value. Great pic, lots of connectivity options, and an easy-to-use interface. Great choice!

Great Smart TV with an extremely competitive price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense H8F is something to admire, with a streamlined, thin bezel design it certainly looks the part of a higher priced model in the 55-inch category. My main purpose for this TV is for streaming content as I am moving away from regular cable. That being said, I did have this connected to a cable box to evaluate what content looked like (sports, new, premium channels) and overall, I did not see a huge gain in HD picture quality in comparison to my other higher priced TV. In my opinion, the quality of cable TV doesn’t do many of the televisions justice when it comes to viewing performance, as the content varies greatly. I set the H8F up in my office and connected a soundbar surround system – I am not big on using TV speakers so audio evaluation is simply limited to the speakers perform as expected, loud enough to hear but lacking any ear tingling dynamics. It didn’t take long to get my two main streaming services up and running (Netflix, Prime) once I was connected to the Wi-Fi. I do not have any signal strength or disconnect issues, though my wireless base station is located within my office so its certainly robust within the room. Starting off with 4K HDR content I was impressed, I did not alter the default picture settings, so I could gauge how this looked out of the box. I like to view nature/wildlife documentaries as they always seem to grab the most range of visuals and color. What I saw was superb colors and crisp images with deep blacks and no visible pixelated greys in my view. I read in other reviews that some were concerned with the noticeable dark corners, which is certainly true but not a game over factor for me. For the content I stream and the location of the TV I think it meets my expectations and then some. I’m extremely satisfied and look forward to more titles utilizing HDR and Dolby Vision to really take advantage of the features and capabilities of the Hisense H8F.
