Gift card worked exactly as expected. I get the email shortly after putting in the order. I then type the code into Home Chef, and my balance is credited.
If my purchases exceed the gift card balance, Home Chef uses the credit card on file, as expected. Otherwise, the balance carries over. One strange thing is that Home Chef states, when there is a balance, that said credit expires after 90 days. I thought gift cards were not to ever expire, by law. But I tend to use Home Chef a lot, so I will be able to zero out the gift card balance after a shipment or two.
Sometimes my credit card gives points for shopping at "electronic stores", so using Best Buy for Home Chef is a nice way to take advantage of that.
As to the service itself, I've tried Sun Basket, Home Chef, and Daily Harvest. They are all a bit different, and Home Chef is my favorite right now. Daily Harvest portions are small and expensive, and leans more towards the smoothies. They have good smoothies. I only got the instant microwave meals from Sun Basket, so not much of a cooking experience. Home Chef is a easy cooking experience.
