Very Good, With One Flaw for Me

I am leaning towards committing to the Google products as I use other Google systems more than Amazon. The one flaw that is super annoying - although won't apply to everyone - is that the Google Assistant will not work with your calendar or other aspects of your Google account if you pay for G Suite. It seems crazy that I pay more for extra Google services, and this prevents me from getting the most out of my Google Home.

Better than Alexa

Mediocre as a standalone speaker

The sound quality is only mediocre. You will be best served with a Home mini connected to a better sound bar or speaker. This will provide the best of both worlds - Best sound quality with the best assistant.
