Great PC - no info available - here's the scoop!

When I purchased it, this PC had zero reviews, and the model number could not be located through HP's website or through searching for reviews. I could not find this configuration anywhere on the Internet. Perhaps a Best Buy exclusive?
I realized there were no front panel ports, but it was being offered at over $300 less than the usual $799 price (flash sale at Best Buy), so I decided to check out the processor vs. other current HP offerings as it seemed almost too good to be true at that price.
So glad I took the chance and purchased it! As the few other reviewers have noted, it only has two USB-2 ports and two USB-3 ports and they are all on the back. The specs claimed six USB ports and a card reader. That is simply not the case.
The secret to this machine is the processor. If you check out the reviews for other current HP desktops including their "gaming" models, the consistent problem is the power supply vs. the ports and performance. Like many current HP desktops, this one has a 180-watt power supply. That is not enough to power many of the supplied processors and ports on much of the HP desktop line, let alone if you are adventurous enough to try to add a dedicated graphics card or a lot of peripherals. The graphics upgrade is a whole other situation to consider (read the reviews on other HP models) as the compact case (which I love for my set-up) is problematic in addition to the power supply issue. If you read the reviews you will know what I mean. In addition, options to upgrade the power supplies are limited-to-non-existent, because instead of a motherboard with standard connections, HP has gone with motherboards that have proprietary connectors for the power supply on those other models, so almost impossible to upgrade. There are also reports of extremely high operating temperatures and non-functioning ports.
Here is this model's secret: the Intel i7-7700T processor. The "T" is the key - it consumes only 35 watts of power versus the i7-7700 without the "T" - which consumes 65 watts of power. I did not find any other HP desktops in Best Buy's lineup that featured the "T" version of this processor. I almost believe this "stealth" model was introduced in response to the complaints that most of HP's desktop line is woefully under-powered for the processors and features they offer. You can research the processor - almost unanimous praise for its performance vs. power usage.
My solution to the lack of ports was to add a monitor stand that had additional USB-2 ports. As for the computer itself, I am amazed at how fast and quiet it is! I am coming from a Pavilion g7 notebook, and the speed upgrade is unbelievable. And of course, having USB-3 ports makes back-up and file transfer much quicker.
So if you can get this model as cheaply as I did (keep checking the site!) and don't need a card reader or front-facing ports, I think you will be blown away. I don't do hardcore gaming, but for the things I bought it for: working at home (Microsoft Office), Internet, photo and video editing, importing and burning CDs and DVDs - it is blazing fast and super quiet. Compared to all of the other HP models Best Buy offers, it also looks sleek and sophisticated.
The sticker on it emphasizes the value proposition: "The go-to tower for the go-for-it price," but honestly, I can't imagine better performance or quality at the sale price I paid.
One warning - I almost gave up and returned it as it attempted to update Windows 10 when I first started it up. I had several times when I thought it had frozen up, and even when it was fully updated (after several power-ups and power-downs) the OS did not seem properly installed.
My tips: let it run a LONG time as it updates Windows 10 and don't turn it off. If you still have problems, do a system restore to the date that the OS was originally installed - the earliest system restore date. Even after, had a few problems - so ran system scan through Windows to fix any corrupt OS files, and since then this basic but powerful, fast and quiet PC has been a delight, and such a step up in every way from my Pavilion laptop. Without having opened it up to check, I also believe, from doing some research, that it has a standard power supply (24-pin) to the motherboard. While the size might be a problem if you wanted to add a dedicated graphics card, I believe this model will accommodate an upgraded power supply. That is my next project (in addition to adding another 8GM memory stick), but cannot verify for sure at this time.
On sale, I think you get WAY more than you pay for with this model - hope this review helps compensate for the lack of info anywhere on this model. I happen to love it now - size, looks, power, speed and (no) noise level. Definitely a find and a super value - can't even downgrade my rating because of the limited number of ports. Best computer purchase I've made!

This PC has plenty of speed with the i7 Intel processor, along with 8gb of Memory and 1TB Hard Drive which allowed me to transfer all of my old music and pictures, which were on two 500gb drives from my old PC to one.
Small design lets you put anywhere and the built in Wifi and Bluetooth have great range.

I like the speed of this tower so far. I don’t like not being able to mirror the original screen with the second video output... but... it is what it is.. less audio outputs than my previous HP... there was no picture of the rear of the cpu anywhere online so I crap shot it.. still a good computer. Super fast.

HP produces another quality and sleek desktop. Processor allows different windows to open quickly. I did not give it 5 stars only because there are no usb ports or activity lights on the front of machine. I had to buy a usb 3.0 hub to provide easy access for devices I plug in and out of computer often. Other than that, the computer is great and works for everyday computing needs...not a "gamer."

I ended up getting this PC after being horribly disappointed with the performance of a Mac Mini that I ended up returning. While this isn't by any means a high spec gaming PC, it is perfect and extremely fast for everyday usage. Maybe a couple of USB ports on the front would have made it a little more ideal but overall I am more than satisfied with the speed of the processor. I did add another stick of RAM to double it but even before that the performance was more than adequate for my needs.

I've been buying all HP computers lately. This one, so far, has been reliable as all of my other HP purchases. The only negative I can say on this one is that there are no USB ports on the front, but I knew that before I purchased it. Some fan noise when you are working with multiple processes, but seems to quiet down in a short amount of time.

I don’t know much about computers but I’ve heard that an i7 processor is pretty fast. My old computer was so slow so it was time for an upgrade. I saw that this computer had many great reviews and it was on sale so I went ahead and purchased it. Let me tell you, this computer is so freaking fast!! It’s exactly what I needed. A computer that can load pages instantly and be able to play 1080p videos without any buffering! Definitely happy with this purchase.

Very good value (on sale). Only 4 USB ports despite what the literature says, as mentioned by others. Only in use for a few weeks, so far so good. No ports in the front.

My pops was running an a Pentium 4. He used it to do his invoices via Excel, web browsing and Pandora. However over the last year it was getting slower and starting to fail. I found this guy on sale for just over $400. For him it is a huge step up. I was amazed at the speed. I only have one problem and that is the wireless NIC does not connect. Since he is wired its no big deal. I did have an AMD chip but it was just not quick enough for me so I wanted the i7. This PC is perfect for medium use and should last him several years.

As a basic computer user, bells and whistles are lost on me. But this computer seems to respond quickly for my purposes. I bought this during a flash sale; so, was able to get more computer than the price point would normally provide. Even those of us who stick to the basics appreciate having solid equipment. It pays to be signed up for the daily deals to score a good value.

This system is light weight and easy to assemble. So far, it is pretty fast, but slowed down when I installed Word. I reset the system, and it seems to be back to normal.
