I'm upgrading my printer from the HP Envy 5055 with this model, and am generally impressed! It is nice to be able to print directly from my smartphone, and the speed of printing is great as well. As a side-job, I regularly host trivia events where every team needs to have multiple pages printed out for them. This means on a slow week I'm printing about 40 pages, and on busy weeks I'm printing about 150 or so. This printer spits them out quickly where the older model would get bogged down with some color print-jobs. One amazing benefit of this printer if you print a lot of materials is that it will basically pay for itself with the one year of free ink. With my printing, I typically maintain the tier where I'm paying $14/month. This means that in one year, I'll save $168. Since this printer costs about $190 or so, it practically pays for itself, and definitely would if you are printing more than I do. There is also added fax capability (if you have a home phone line and actually need to do so) and the scanner with a feeder tray. This is nice as I keep my printer on a shelf and don't routinely need to scan. Now, whenever I do need to, I can just put the paper in the feeder and not worry about the clearance above it to get to the scanner. The one point which is a little odd is that it requires separate drivers on your computer to scan, but this is not a big deal. The only downside that I've found is that this printer is capable of having a paper-jam where my old 5055 never did. Just watch out for how much paper you put in the tray at one time, and you should be fine.

    HP Printer...always

I can't remember the last time that I had a printer that wasn’t an HP Printer. I have always found it easy to set them up and to use their printing app to print, scan, monitor ink levels and do everything I need. This HP OfficeJet Pro has all of the usual benefits and features that I find with HP printers but so much more. I am a huge supporter of their app. It's so easy and one of the main reasons why I keep coming back to HP. Life is challenging enough without having to fight with a printer to get something scanned or printed. And this one even comes with fax capabilities. Wireless This is a must have for me. With all the wires for all of our devices, it is wonderful when the only thing a printer needs is a power cord. I use different devices in different rooms in the house, so I love being able to print wirelessly from any room in the house. No one has time to walk to the office and attach a printer to print. Ink It's a great bonus that the printer comes with a 12 month trial of Instant Ink. I have never used the service before so I am really excited to have an opportunity to experience it for a whole year with no additional cost. I always use HP ink so I'm hoping this is a much easier approach to ensure that we never run out of ink. It's always at the worst time that I find myself exploring different retailers to see who can get it to my home or have it ready for pick-up before I need to print some urgent paper. Hopefully that is a challenge of the past. Setup Setup was relatively easy with installing ink and paper. Navigation through the setup on my computer went relatively smoothly until the printer indicated it needed attention and that a password was necessary. We attempted to setup a password multiple times and even with a reboot continued to experience an issue. We used it at home and don't expect to run into any issues, but the "Needs Attention" alert will be distracting. We will further explore setting that up in the near future and follow-up with HP if unsuccessful. The printer indicated that the firmware install failed and to try again, but after a reboot we no longer received that error message and it's ready to print. Great printing results. This printer is super speedy in completing the print job and the ink is beautiful on the page. This is exactly what I needed and I am really looking forward to the flexibility of printing from anywhere. It happens often that I need to print something for someone at home even though I'm out running errands, at the office or dropping children off for school so this will make it so much easier than just having to wait until I get home.

    Can't go wrong with HP

This is a replacement for his little brother that we got in 2020 right at the beginning of the pandemic. It had done more than 14000 pages and was worn out. I expect this one to do just as many. It seems to be a bit more robust than the last one and the scanner is better. Print quality is great. We've done photo paper and output was perfect. Normal printing is excellent. WiFi setup was extremely easy and it was online in no time. I would definitely recommend this series. The only gripe is the cover of the paper tray is difficult.

A very solid ink jet printer

I have spent the last 10 years with a color laser jet printer from HP so I was excited to see how they had improved upon the ink jet printer since the last time I owned one. In some ways they have, and in some ways, I don't think it will ever be possible. The installation is great, but I am not a fan of the HP+ software. I find it too intrusive and feel it wants too much access to your data for what it really does. Also, since I'm not someone who generally needs to print dozens (hundreds?) of pages while I'm halfway around the world, maybe I'm not the right target demographic. But I had to sign up to get my free Instant Ink trial. Instant ink is a great idea for someone who prints a lot. I am not one of those people, but if I was I would find it very useful. For the time being I signed up for the 10 pages/month plan for $1.50. I figure if I try it for a year the worst I'm out is $18. The quality of color documents is outstanding, but you'll never be able to print a photo or rich colorful image without the page coming out wet and curling up if you don't flatten it. One of the things I love most about this printer is the default double sided printing. I also like the ease of sharing th printer on my network and for my wife to be able to print to it without knowing what she's doing.

Not sure who this printer is "for"

I've used a ton of printers from every consumer brand and several business grade brands due to my job in IT. At home, my spouse often prints hundreds of pages per month for her job, so we go through a ton of printers and ink. HP makes (or used to anyway) some decent SMB grade printers that were easy enough to set up for IT supporting a medium sized workplace but also could be set up easily by non-technical folks at home. I'm not sure where they went astray from this idea, but this HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e is neither easy to set up at home nor is it something I would want to set up and support as an office IT worker. Good things first: the print quality is great, and the tray size is decent at 225 pages. It even can hold up to 35 pages in the ADF for scanning/copying, and that's awesome for a printer in this class IMO. This printer even has fax built-in, which I don't have a way to test at home but is a welcome feature for those who work in industries that still require a fax. The small LCD screen is very responsive to touch and easy to use. I especially liked that it has a tiny 'click' sound as you tap things (and the sound if fast enough that it's useful). The meh: Speeds are kinda slow. Because printing from a Windows app goes through the HP smart service first, there's a relatively long delay before the printer even reacts to you hitting print (around 15 seconds for a 15 page powerpoint deck). Printing a deck with full color backgrounds was about 4.5 pages per minutes at default quality. Printing a black and white 16 page report took less than a minute even with the startup delay. This printer is no speed demon, but it's not the worst I've ever used. The bad: The setup process is absolutely abysmal. HP needs to go back to the drawing board with this HP Smart stuff. I have an Android phone and multiple Windows 11 PCs. I plugged the printer in, chose my language, country, installed the cartridges - all following the steps on the printer's screen. No problems so far. Once prompted to continue setup using the QR code and setup page (and the HP smart app), things went off the rails. My first time through: the app found the printer and started setup, but timed out one or two screens into the process. Just sat there spinning. I gave it 10 minutes before closing the app and re-opening. Opening the app, it couldn't find the printer to set up again. I power cycled the printer, and it came back to the page on the screen to complete set up using another device. I then found the printer on my home network and connected using a web browser and factory reset the printer. Second time through: App again could not find the printer. I used the option to find using an alternate method and this time it found it, but it said I couldn't complete setup using the app at this time. I tried on the windows app too. Eventually, and I don't know how, some combination of completing a step in the Android app, it hanging, and then using the Windows app to set my marketing preferences, it hanging, going back to Android, I was able to get to a point where the Android app was spinning but the printer started making noise and eventually the printer said it was downloading a firmware update. "Victory!" I thought. Except it wasn't, because after a few minutes the firmware update failed and I was prompted to restart the printer (from the printer screen). Third time through: I was able to get almost all the way through setup using the Android app. I got my printer added to HP+ and then set up the billing and shipping info for Instant Ink. Note that if you get a phone call or do something that makes you leave the HP app for more than a few seconds it makes you re-enter your information from the start. Awful. At what felt like the final pages of the setup in the app, I was prompted to change the printer password from the default. A great suggestion, HP! Except after I set the new password, the Android app stopped responding, again. But this time through I'd actually gotten an email from HP welcoming me to HP+ and Instant Ink, so I thought maybe, just maybe, I was done. Except in the android app and Windows app it still showed setup wasn't complete. Switching to the Windows app (as my Android app was still spinning and waiting after setting the password), I selected the printer and was prompted for a password since "The printer default password has been changed to a custom password". I entered the password I'd set through the Android app, and voila! I was in. I was prompted to set up HP+ and Instant Ink, but as I clicked through the prompts I was told they were already set up on this printer. Finally, I got a completed setup screen. It had taken over an hour, but I have a fully set up printer. Final thoughts: For a very tech-savvy person who's #1 concern is print quality, and has a usage pattern that fits well within the HP Instant Ink program (especially for the first year at 700 pages per month free), this is a decent printer. With those two qualifiers it might be worth the hassle of using the HP smart app. For anyone else, this printer is overly cumbersome to use. I do think the print quality is better than the "tank" style inkjets and perhaps equal to laser printer quality, but it's just not enough for me to recommend as a #1 choice outside a limited use case. You can definitely do worse, but I think you can do better, too.

I switched to an HP printer with Instant Ink back in 2019. I was hesitant as I do not like having monthly subscriptions but at the cost per month, it ended up being cheaper than buying a $50 pack of ink twice a year. So I signed up for it and have been extremely happy about it. My other worry was that I would find myself out of ink and having to wait for the new ink to be delivered. What’s great is that HP sends you ink when you are getting close to low, so I never ran into an issue of not having ink to print. We used that 2019 printer significantly, it went through several moves, and was the basic model so naturally it started dying late 2023. With this new line and with HP proving themselves to have a great service, I decided to upgrade and get it with the 12 months of Instant Ink. I am beyond happy with it. Could the colors be more vibrant? Sure, but it’s definitely more of a business/office printer so it’s not something designed for color accuracy and vibrancy. Prints have been clean, precise, and quick. I have no qualms after setup, it’s running beautifully without issue. I did have to use the HP app to set up the printer, but it walked me through the process and within about 10 minutes, I was up and running. Pros: Instant Ink subscription is unexpectedly cheaper than buying ink from the store Relatively quiet Still a nice design Display is much bigger than my previous printers Print quality and speed are solid Allowed me to cancel my previous Instant Ink subscription in the setup process instead of just charging me until I remember to cancel! Cons: Have to use the PC app to setup the printer (if there was an alternate way to set it up, I could not find it) During setup, there are many times where the app tries to get you to opt in to sharing your information (although they at least provide you a way to opt-out each time)

I got the HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e Wireless All-in-One Printer with 1 Full Year Instant Ink with HP+ to supplement my home office printer and so far I’m happy with it. The set-up was much easier than the last one but that may be due to having set-up the HP Smart and instant ink with my last printer. I really like the free trial of instant ink as it gives you the chance to see first, how well it works for you, and second, which package, if any, best suits your needs. It wasn’t feasible to have random things being sent in to print when I was doing a large printing job in batches, so this printer will used for those random bits people send in to print before they get home as well as other things I need to print during those batch jobs. So far, we’ve found no issues printing from phones. Once the novelty wears off, we’ll see how much it is used by those who think it is cool now. The printing is quite crisp and clear, it will print duplex, has an automatic feeder and, for a home printer, is quite fast. It is everything I’ve come to expect from an HP. It was packaged great and I had no worries that anything happened during shipping. So far, I'd definitely recommend this printer, not just for a home office but for a family with kids who are more familiar with how to work their phone than a laptop.

HP OfficeJet 8139e is a highly versatile and multifunctional printer. With always-connected Wi-Fi, you will stay updated with the latest firmware, ensuring your printer is always up to date for any printing task you need. This model also features instant ink ready, a convenient function that alerts you when ink is running low and allows instant reordering. With the HP mobile app, you can print on the go, monitor your printer's usage, and send documents to be printed. You can print, copy, scan, and fax. It also boasts a 20-page per minute print rate. And that's plenty. It has dual-band self-filling Wi-Fi to keep you connected, which is also very good for efficient printing. And it's protected by Wolf Security. The automatic document feeder is a must nowadays, and this one has it. You also include one year of instant ink, which I love. If you're in the market for an all-in-one superb printer, this is the one to check out. You will love it.
