Was great for about a year with absolutely no problems. Suddenly became unusable after a year with no apparent cause. There seems to be a problem with the screen that is common with this computer. Screen and keyboard blinks in and out making it unusable and other reviews we’ve seen have all reported a similar timeline with this very same issue (about a year and 3 months). We should have done more research before purchase.

It's okay, but the TDP of the GPU is 80w. The touch of the Trackpad is not very good, the keyboard leaves a lot to be desired, the image is good, the sound is very good. If you are looking for Gaming, there are better options than this HP Omen.

Wasnt really impressed. I think because i specifically asked for a laptop that could handle 4k gaming and when asked the salesman, i was told 100% this laptop can do it . When all reality i got it home it would only push 1080p and not being able to max out settings. Unfortunately i took it back and now doing my own research know which laptop specs i need to play 4k max settings. Ill still be buying from bestbuy eitherway.

The **HP Omen 16.1** is part of HP’s gaming laptop series, designed to provide a balance between performance, portability, and aesthetics. The 16.1-inch model is a popular option among gamers due to its powerful internals, reasonable pricing compared to premium gaming laptops, and robust design. Here's a comprehensive review based on key aspects: ### **1. Design and Build Quality** The HP Omen 16.1 maintains a clean and minimalist design compared to more aggressive gaming laptops. It has a solid build with a sleek black or white matte finish and a subtle RGB-lit Omen logo on the lid. The laptop feels durable, with its all-plastic build, although some may find it less premium than metal-bodied alternatives. It weighs around 2.3 kg (5.1 lbs), which is typical for a gaming laptop of this size, making it reasonably portable. **Pros:** - Clean, minimalist design. - Decent build quality. - Relatively portable for a gaming laptop. **Cons:** - All-plastic chassis, which can feel less premium. - Slightly heavier compared to other gaming laptops in its class. ### **2. Display** The HP Omen 16.1 features a **16.1-inch IPS display** with options for Full HD (1920x1080) or QHD (2560x1440) resolution, depending on the configuration. The display offers a **144Hz or 165Hz refresh rate**, making it great for fast-paced gaming, ensuring smooth visuals. Color accuracy is decent, with around 100% sRGB coverage in the QHD variant, suitable for gaming, content creation, and multimedia consumption. **Pros:** - High refresh rate options (144Hz or 165Hz). - Decent color accuracy (100% sRGB). - QHD option for sharper visuals. **Cons:** - Brightness levels could be better, especially for outdoor use (typically around 300 nits). - The screen bezels are slightly thick compared to newer designs. ### **3. Performance** The HP Omen 16.1 can be configured with powerful internals, including **Intel Core i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 7/9 processors**, paired with **NVIDIA RTX 3050, 3060, 3070, or 3070 Ti** GPUs, offering excellent gaming performance. The laptop handles AAA titles well at 1080p and even 1440p resolutions at high or ultra settings, thanks to the powerful GPU options and fast refresh rates. The laptop also comes with **16GB or 32GB of DDR5 RAM** and **up to 1TB SSD**, ensuring fast load times and smooth multitasking. The Omen Gaming Hub software allows users to optimize performance based on their needs, including overclocking, performance profiles, and system monitoring. **Pros:** - Strong gaming performance with high-end CPU and GPU options. - Easily handles AAA games at high settings. - Fast SSD storage and RAM options. - Omen Gaming Hub software for customization. **Cons:** - Can get hot during extended gaming sessions. - Some lower-tier models (RTX 3050) may struggle with 1440p gaming at ultra settings. ### **4. Cooling and Thermals** The Omen 16.1 comes with an improved **Omen Tempest Cooling system**, featuring large vents and a dual-fan setup that helps manage heat. However, the laptop can still run hot under load, especially when playing demanding games. The fans can get a bit loud at times, but they generally manage to keep the internal temperatures within safe limits. **Pros:** - Effective cooling for moderate gaming sessions. - Omen Tempest Cooling system is efficient in dissipating heat. **Cons:** - Can get hot during prolonged gaming. - Fans can become loud under load. ### **5. Keyboard and Trackpad** The HP Omen 16.1 features a **full-sized keyboard with RGB backlighting**, customizable per zone. The keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience with decent key travel, which is good for both gaming and general use. The **trackpad** is large and responsive, though most gamers will likely use an external mouse. **Pros:** - Comfortable, full-sized RGB keyboard. - Customizable lighting options via Omen Gaming Hub. - Large, responsive trackpad. **Cons:** - Per-key RGB customization is only available on higher-end configurations. - No dedicated macro keys. ### **6. Battery Life** Gaming laptops generally aren’t known for long battery life, and the HP Omen 16.1 is no exception. It features a **6-cell, 83Wh battery**, providing around **4-6 hours** of moderate use (web browsing, light productivity). However, during gaming, the battery life drops significantly to around **1-2 hours** depending on the game and performance settings. **Pros:** - Decent battery life for non-gaming tasks. **Cons:** - Poor battery life for gaming. - Requires a power adapter for extended gaming sessions. ### **7. Ports and Connectivity** The HP Omen 16.1 is well-equipped with a wide range of ports, including: - 1x Thunderbolt 4 (on Intel models) or USB-C 3.2 (on AMD models) - 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 - 1x Mini DisplayPort - 1x HDMI 2.1 - 1x RJ-45 Ethernet port - 1x headphone/microphone combo jack - 1x SD card reader (on certain models) This selection makes it versatile for connecting external displays, peripherals, and accessories. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 also ensure fast wireless connectivity. **Pros:** - Wide range of ports for various peripherals. - Thunderbolt 4 on Intel models. - Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for fast connectivity. **Cons:** - Some configurations may lack Thunderbolt 4 (AMD models). - No dedicated audio output options beyond the combo jack. ### **8. Pricing** The pricing for the HP Omen 16.1 varies based on configuration. The lower-end models with RTX 3050 GPUs start at around $1,200, while higher-end versions with RTX 3070 or 3070 Ti can go up to $2,000 or more. Given its specs, the Omen 16.1 is competitively priced compared to similar gaming laptops from brands like ASUS ROG or Lenovo Legion. **Pros:** - Competitive pricing for the specs. - Variety of configurations to suit different budgets. **Cons:** - The highest-end models can be expensive. - Some may feel mid-tier options could be priced more aggressively. ### **Verdict** The **HP Omen 16.1** is a strong contender in the mid-to-high-end gaming laptop market. It offers powerful hardware, a good display, and solid gaming performance. Its minimalist design appeals to users who prefer a more understated look for a gaming laptop. However, thermal management and battery life during gaming could be better. For gamers who want a versatile laptop for both gaming and productivity, the HP Omen 16.1 provides good value. **Overall Pros:** - Strong gaming and multitasking performance. - Good display with high refresh rate options. - Customizable RGB keyboard. - Competitive pricing for the performance. **Overall Cons:** - Can get hot and noisy under heavy loads. - Mediocre battery life for gaming. - Plastic build lacks a premium feel. The HP Omen 16.1 is a solid choice for gamers seeking a balance between price, performance, and design, especially if portability and customization are essential factors.

Runs very fast. I don't play the most demanding games, but as an example, when I play League of Legends on all the most demanding video settings, this computer easily sustains a frame rate far faster than the screen on this laptop can display it, so the movement is extremely smooth. I think the screen at 165 hz and 1080 HD is the only limiting factor for how well this computer can display and run all the games I typically play. The screen is a little darker than I expected, which isn't a big deal because it's still plenty bright enough in a bright environment if you turn the brightness all the way up. I didn't have any of the problems some of the other reviewers mentioned. One thing I don't like is that the power button is located next to the delete button, meaning that I'll be more likely to accidently press it when I don't mean to, but so far that hasn't been a big issue. I also wasn't fond of the 4 different colors in the backlit keyboard, but I found that those 4 color zones are customizable and can be set to whatever colors you want in the OMEN Gaming Hub app, so I'm thankful it allowed me to make all 4 zones the same color of my choice. The built-in speakers are nothing to get too excited about, but I'd still say that the speakers are good compared to most laptops. I would certainly recommend this laptop. Especially since I was able to get it while it was on a brief sale, I'm shocked at how little I had to pay for such a powerful laptop. Great bang for the buck!

The HP OMEN 16.1" has been the perfect balance between my schoolwork and my gaming hobby. For classes, it’s fast, responsive, and handles everything from research to video calls with ease. The 16GB of DDR5 memory and 1TB SSD mean I can multitask without slowdown, and I never have to worry about running out of storage for assignments or media. When it’s time to game, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 paired with the 165Hz display really shines. Games look smooth, vibrant, and incredibly detailed, and the refresh rate makes a big difference in responsiveness. It runs my intermediate-level games flawlessly, with plenty of power to spare for more demanding titles. The build quality feels solid, the keyboard is comfortable for long study sessions or gaming marathons, and the cooling system keeps everything running efficiently. I also love the sleek Shadow Black design — it looks professional for school but still has that subtle gamer edge. If you need a laptop that can excel at both productivity and gaming, the HP OMEN is a fantastic choice.

This is my first gaming laptop. It runs excellently with great graphics. It can run WoW all day as well as many cozy and open world games on Steam w no crashing. It does get hot so I recommend an additional cooling mat/fan. You get about 40-60 m of gaming before battery runs out, so I typically leave it plugged in except to give the charger a rest sometimes. Also this is great for web browsing and streaming. I love this laptop and am so glad I got it!

I’ve been using the HP OMEN 16.1” gaming laptop for a few months now and I’m extremely impressed. The Intel Core i7 combined with 16GB DDR5 RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 makes this machine a powerhouse. Games run flawlessly at high settings, and the 165Hz refresh rate really enhances the gameplay experience with smooth visuals. The 1TB SSD provides plenty of storage and fast load times, and the overall build quality is excellent. I also appreciate the clean and sleek Shadow Black design feels premium without being flashy. Battery life is decent for a gaming laptop, and the cooling system handles heat well, even during long gaming sessions. Whether you’re gaming, editing, or just multitasking heavily, this laptop performs like a champ. Highly recommend for anyone looking for top-tier gaming performance at a reasonable price!

A solid machine suitable for a wide range of tasks: gaming, schoolwork, music production, coding, and video editing. CPU temperatures can get a bit high in Performance mode, but it still delivers 60+ FPS in AAA titles like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Final Fantasy XVI, and Space Marine 2, and over 165 FPS in competitive games such as CS2, Valorant, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, League of Legends, and Rainbow Six: Siege on Balanced mode. It has a few drawbacks, but none of them are dealbreakers. Personally, I believe it was the best laptop available for $1000 at the time of purchase. Pros: Responsive touchpad, bright and vibrant display, compact keyboard layout (no numpad) Cons: Mediocre Wi-Fi module, weak speakers, Intel CPU (runs hotter than AMD)

I've had this laptop for a little over a week now. Battery life is pretty good when doing light work, gaming I get a little over an hour which is fair. When plugged in I can play most games on high settings getting 60+fps but when I'm running on battery i can barely play anything unless I use the Nvidia geforce panel to optimize the games. You can't adjust the tdp and the omen hub to boost performance, change graphics card settings etc is slow and laggy. This mobo is also locked so you don't have access to advance settings in the bios which is ridiculous. I do like the screen though. It's a good size laptop and the keyboard feels nice. This is a good laptop for someone who just wants a laptop that can do everyday things and play games casually without tinkering with any settings. I will be returning this for something better.

I always love the HP omen brand of gaming laptops. The design is not overly obnoxious gamer laptop and everything works well.. The laptop does get pretty hot, right out of the box i was getting temps of 100c on graphic intensive games, so use a cooling pad. The other negative for me is that it only has 1 SSD slot, meaning you have to clone and replace the ssd if you want to upgrade the size of your storage. Other than that, this is my 3rd omen so far and they have all met or exceeded my expectations.

HP OMEN - 16.1" 165Hz Full HD Gaming Laptop

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The HP OMEN 16.1" is a powerful all-rounder, perfect for anyone needing serious performance for both gaming and demanding tasks like video editing or complex software. Packed with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of lightning-fast DDR5 memory, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card, and a quick 1TB SSD, this laptop ensures smooth operation and rapid loading times. Its 16.1-inch Full HD display with a 165Hz refresh rate offers incredibly fluid visuals, making games look stunning and everyday use feel super responsive. Plus, its sleek Shadow Black design gives it a sophisticated look that fits in anywhere, avoiding the overly flashy aesthetics often found in gaming laptops. While the HP OMEN 16.1" excels in performance, it's important to remember that as a powerful 16-inch gaming laptop, it's not the most compact or lightest option for constant travel, and like most high-performance machines, battery life will be shorter during intensive use. However, its robust cooling system does a good job of managing heat during long sessions. Overall, if you're seeking a single, high-performance laptop that can effortlessly switch between intense gaming and serious productivity, this HP OMEN is a strong contender that delivers on its promises.
