Ok so I got this in open box but excellent condition for less than the $449.99 holiday special so after taxes I paid only 445.99. The laptio migh have its cons being the build quality is mostly like regular non gaming laptops but it still oooks decent and the HP logo looks cool and backlit keyboard adds on to looks. Some say the keyboard ain't great and yeah it ain't but it is pretty decetn and you get the numeric pad many laptops are ditching that. The speakers aren't great nor id the display but again, they're NOT that bad in my opinion they're enough to meet the needs of anyone gaming on a budget and the trackpad is'nt great either but it does the job, that doesn't affect me at all cause I always use a mouse but here's the thing, for its price this is quite decent and this version with the Ryzen 5 is better than the Intel i5 cause this one has a 6 core CPU and is more battery efficient and doesn't sacrifice performance. I had mixed thoughts about htis one but I had gamimg laptops in the past that I sold and was looking for a mid range one and the price of this one well I couldn't go wrong and I didn't I'm actually glad I picked it up while on sale. Anyway the RAM is only 8GB and the storage is only 256GB but at least it's an SSD so if you can invest a little more to make your buy awesome upgrade the RAM to 16GB just add another 3200MHz 8GB stick and obviously add more storage, the laptop has a 2.5 slot so you can fit 2.5 SSD or HDD which will come in real handy. Overall the machine ain't perfect the specs speak for themselves but I gotta say the laptop is fairly priced and is easily upgraded for anyone gaming on a budget or just doesn't need a killer gaming laptop this is it guys it will play games and perform perfectly for regular tasks like browsing, watching videos even editing the 6 core CPU helps on that... consider this laptop if you just want a decent machine that can play games without paying 1K or more and also remember how easy this is to upgrade to make it an even better laptop :)

Purchased an open box. When it booted it said “CMOS checksum invalid” and when I arrived at the desktop it said there was no battery detected. As soon as it was unplugged from the power brick, it turned off

So far it has been a pretty solid laptop. When i bought this i expected there to be a ton of bloatware as most laptops usually do. It has very minimal bloatware which is refreshing. When i turned it on it seemed like the keyboard lights weren't as bright, but using FN+F5 changes the brightness. As far as games go i really haven't had anything i couldn't play although this wont play demanding games on high settings. Keep in mind this is an entry level gaming laptop. The 6 core cpu runs like an absolute champ. The 256gb ssd is a bit small but its a trade off between speed and storage. It boots up very quickly. The only two complaints i really have are the battery and the screen. The battery doesn't last very long especially while gaming. And the screen brightness is a little bit lacking for my taste. As i said before it is an entry level gaming computer so there will be pro's and cons but i can live with them no problem.

I'm writing the review on the laptop while saving a video file and it's not even running slow, so that's great! I'm coming off a 2013 Toshiba so this is great for me, and it was 200 bucks cheaper at the cost of a smaller hard drive. You can add more memory and RAM to it, but I don't wanna risk hurting the thing to try myself
Best gameplay test I've had is DMC Definitive Edition running at 240fps for those who care about that.
The material used to make it makes the laptop feel dangerously fragile, as a heads up, but it's very light, fits easily into a laptop bag.

Good quality laptop esp for the BF price! Love the green backlit Keyboard, seems fast, screen ok, not great, I think my 5 year old HP is 'clearer'. Did add 8GB stick of matching ram to get me to 16 total, added a Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB ssd drive - hardest part was getting the back opened. I did have to 'initialize' disk and format it before system actually recognized it though, it walked me through and was quick and easy. The fan does get a little loud on and off and I'm not gaming with it. Needed a new laptop and wanted discrete graphics and upgradeability. Haven't used it much yet, was waiting on new ram/harddrive to come before I added my own stuff so it wasn't 'saved' on the Nvme OS drive.

We bought this computer for my son for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. This computer is packed with gaming goodies (AMD Ryzen 5 and the Nvidia GPU) and the with the price paid ($449) it was a no brainer.
The only flaw really is the display, it appears somewhat washed out but can make better with adjustments. You can easily pickup a good monitor for under $200 and remedy. The computer is easily upgradeable, RAM up to 32gb and storage can be added with the addition of a SATA SSD drive or upgrade the NvMe M.2 SSD 256gb which comes with it. All in all you could spend an extra $400 and have a machine that out of the box would cost you $1200 everyday.

Great value, random BSODs on setup?

For start if you got this laptop during the Black friday sale it was a steal at $450 you are not going to find a comparable laptop.
My last laptop was an 2015 alienware and this thing blows it out of the water. There is no windows circle chase when you boot up it goes straight from bios to login screen.
I loved that it was setup to allow you to upgrade. I immediately bought an extra 500gb SSD to add in the empty spot and another 8gb of ram using the exact one that is in the laptop. (it's written in the questions section).
It runs games fairly well, Doom eternal on high textures gets in the 50s FPS with maybe some drops to the 40s on occasion. That being said it isn't entirely future proof but it will last you plenty of time. The 4600H CPU inside is a tank for sure, wished there was an option to include the 1660 Ti GPU as I would have spent extra for sure.
Now to my complaint: The setup was terrible.
Immediately after trying to setup and let the laptop auto update it had BSOD (blue screen errors) constantly, I had to reinstall windows again and update manually each time to ensure each drivers were installed correctly. After doing this my laptop has stabilized but for some reason on a wild occasion it'll throw another BSOD when starting up. No clue as to why, it doesn't happen during games, but sometimes when doing a disk stress test, or when booting up my laptop it has happened. Maybe the NVME I got is faulty? Don't really want to part with my laptop if that is the case and i'm hoping over time it just fixes itself with an update. If it does continue I'll contact support. Currently I would put this at 4.5 stars because of the setup issues but for the value you can work through it and be a great machine. Hopefully nobody else has my issues and it was a one time thing. (doesn't bother me terribly because of how fast it can start back up, its just an inconvenience.

Wow! I don't often write reviews, but wanted to give some info on this laptop. Like many people I do both work and some gaming on my Laptops. I like Intel more than AMD but this laptop works fine for any work or word processing I'm doing, searching the web, or using Adobe Pro etc. So as a work laptop it hits that mark fine for sure. On the other side (gaming) this thing has surprised me! I went from a HP that had an I7 and a MX 550. It would play COD MW and RD2 but the load time and play was slow at times even on low settings. The 1650 works very well, it's not the top of the line video card but still works super well for the money. I have COD MW, RD2, Detroit is human all on high or ultra and they work great!
I did do a few upgrades as soon as I got this thing. The cost was pennies compared to what the same setup would be if you had them from the manufacturer. I replaced the 250Gb ssd with Samsung Evo 500GB (less than $80.00 bucks). I added a stick of DDR4 3200 mem 8g ($25.00 giving a total of 16gbs). and used my old 1TB Samsung ssd out of my last HP laptop and this thing works flawlessly and fast!
So for less than $550.00 dollars total I think this is a super great laptop that will work for many years without breaking the bank. Sure it doesn't have 144mhz refresh rate and it's not the AMD 7 etc etc but for the marginal speed improvements that would bring to me its a no brainer! Why pay all that money when this little thing rocks everything I need? I hope this review helps. If you get this and want to upgrade just YouTube how and you'll find it is super easy to remove the 7 screws from the back and pop off the back cover with no damage for any upgrade you want to do!!!

As other users have noted this computer is an excellent bang for your buck. I supplemented the already powerful internals with an extra stick of 8GB RAM in order to run in dual channel, making sure the manufacturer and model number was identical to that which HP had pre-installed. Additionally the SATA drive expansion bay was an excellent design decision as I was able to easily expanded my storage space.
One complaint about the PC is that panel is subpar given that viewing angles while watching videos and gaming could be better, additionally the build quality leaves a bit to be desired as the plastic is somewhat soft and can deform easily if forced. Otherwise it is difficult to justify any negative comments as the sale price was more than right for this fine machine.

I picked up an open box unit for about $385-390 on black friday and it looked brand new. For under $400 this is a STEAL and for the normal $700 price it's still a great deal. This laptop is a productivity monster and the six core Ryzen 4600H is 95% of the desktop Ryzen 5 3600 and consistently ran all 6 cores at 4.0 GHz with a simple elevating laptop stand and new thermal grizzly hydronaut thermal paste on the gpu/cpu. The 1650 may seem underpowered but my unit's VRAM maxed out the overclock slider on MSI afterburner (7500 MHz) and the gpu clock maxed out at 1420 MHz.
The screen is the downside of this unit. The viewing angles aren't great and the srgb coverage is around 65-70%.... not so hot, but the actual hardware in the unit makes up for this imho.

Attention that this laptop is equipped with a 220 nits TN panel screen. For those who care about screen quality, maybe it's wise to raise your budget (I don't mind, usually I use it with an output monitor).
There're 2 ram slots. 8g occupies one. You can easily buy another 8g DDR4 3200 to get dual channel rams.
There's an empty 2.5'' SATA hard drive location. I installed a WD blue 500g, which works well.
You can open the lid with one hand. With no surprise, don't expect the hinge as sturdy as a high-level gaming laptop.
Anyway, what do you expect to get a ryzen5 4600h laptop with 1065 GPU at this price point? It's good enough as an entry level gaming laptop.

Out of the box this computer was great. Ryzen 5 with 6 cores and hyper threading and a dedicated nvidia graphics card. I've ran everything on it so far and really like it. This laptop does come with 1 8gb ddr4 3200 sodimm and there is a spot for another one. There is a spot for a 2.5 inch ssd in the device. I put another 8 gb chip in it and upgraded the hard drive to a 1tb name drive. My only complaint is I wish the screen was better but other than that great little laptop. Easy to get open 7 screws in the bottom and I will need a plastic spreader tool since the bottom plate has clips in it. Well worth the $450 I paid for it.

So far so good, replacing a 2014 sager np8268-s with i7-4810mq cpu and gtx 870m gpu. Power brick is very reasonably sized for gaming laptop and adding a 1tb hdd brings the weight to 4.5 pounds. Can run fusion 360 with ease and is lightning fast for other daily tasks. Haven't used it for gaming yet but for $530 (adding hdd and ram stick), I'm impressed that it meets minimum requirements of modern titles and is even profitable to sell. The screen looks the same and build quality is less than the old pc - hinge/touchpad/body feel a bit fragile. Should work perfectly given my constraints - price, portability, power.

So far I'm loving this laptop I got it during a very good week so didn't cost me much actually wanted a gaming laptop so I can play The Sims 4 game is excellent when playing the game the downside of it is so the battery doesn't last that long so I need to have it plugged in if I want to keep playing The Sims for more than an hour I can also do my everyday little things checking my email paying bills and using Microsoft Word to do any school stuff I love the design of it looks kind of like Alienware I love that also has a backlit keyboard but I do have to say that the display needs a bit more brightness you need to avoid the natural light in order for you to see the screen very good.

Got it at a great price($450) on black Friday and did a curbside pickup at the store a few days later. The specs for this laptop is quite good for a mid-level gaming laptop. It is capable of ram and 2.5 HD/SSD expansion which is a great feature. Nice FHD screen and full size backlit keyboard. No complaints but just glad I upgraded from a 6 year old HP intel i5 laptop. It starts up in less than 15 secs and shuts down around 8 secs. Wicked fast for its class and unbeatable value. I wished they add a couple more USB 3.0 ports and also a display port. Very satisfied.

Although, every component of it is not very perfect, it is worth its price.
It is a mid to low end gaming laptop. Thus, do not have a big hope for its gaming experience. Use it to play all 3A game in mid setting is OK.
If it uses for work, study, and entertainment with a little gaming, it is a good choice for such a low price. Regular use is not too hot. And I do not have tried gaming(I don't play game).
It can be upgrade its RAM and HD in the future or if needed.
The cons would be power consumption is not low, due to it is not low-voltage CPU and small battery.

Very pleased with laptop so far. It has been able to run all my games such as Fortnite, Halo MCE, emulators, and even Stadia games really well. I did upgrade the RAM to 16GB and add an additional 500GB SSD, which was easy enough because there is an open slot on the board for both. The display is not the best however, I advise if you want a better experience that you should connect it to an external IPS monitor. The lid hinge does squeak a bit.

I got this on a black Friday deal for cheap. Great performance for a budget laptop. I recommend adding the extra ram and hard drive. There is 1- 8GB stick of ram, and a slot for another. There is also a spot to add an additional Sata drive. I can play most games on medium settings, and there is very little bloatware on the computer.
