The best Unlocked phone there is! I highly recommend this phone to anyone looking for high end (just like premium) phone for the fraction of the cost. Don't let the price fool you, either. This phone is very responsive and has one of the best camera for an Unlocked phone. USB C, Dual Camera, Fingerprint sensor, IR blaster... what more could you want!? Love the UI too. Highly recommended.

Fantastic! Thanks you for the excellent feedback and we're happy to hear that you would highly recommend the Honor 8 to others. Like you mentioned, we believe the Honor 8 is packed with a lot of flagship features. What separates us is that we don't include the flagship price range. It's great hearing that our customers are just as impressed as us with the value of this phone, thanks again. (DM)

This phone has no business being this cheap. This phone is beautiful, has a great camera, has great battery life, and a great fingerprint sensor and is nearly half the price of the segment leader.
There are only 2 gripes about his phone. First, it is the slipperiest phone in the world, please get a case or a vinyl skin or something otherwise this will end up in the floor a LOT. Seriously this is the slipperiest device I have ever beheld myself. Secondly, the software, EMUI, is not going to be everyone's cup 'o' tea. It's very inspired by iOS and doesn't have an app drawer and is very white where I would prefer darker UI elements, and it would seem like half of the theming features are simply not present. Luckily you can install a custom launcher, but it can only do so much.
But this is a fantastic device overall, I mean the back with its dual vamera setup is completely flush no camera humps here (I'm looking at you Apple and Samsung) and the pictures it produces are pretty nice.
If you're looking for a GREAT phone at $400 and want a smaller device, get this phone it is fantastic.

I was in the market for a new phone as the lagginess of Samsung's heavily skinned UI was getting to me. A Galaxy S7 with a Snapdragon 820 processor is nowhere near out of date, so the constant stutters and freezes were nowhere near acceptable to me. Samsung time and time again destroys is beautiful and otherwise grade A hardware with junk, unnecessary software.
Before delving into specifics, here is where I would rank the Huawei Honor 8 in major categories which I will delve into later:
Price: 10/10 (had a 10% off coupon which REALLY helped as well, less than $280 out the door in my case)
Camera: 8/10 (only faults are video auto focus, OIS and no 4K abilities)
Build quality: 9/10 (it's pretty and sturdy but all glass so get a case!)
Speed: 9/10 (only going to be trumped by a Snapdragon 821 or 835 device)
UI: 9/10 (very unobtrusive and has some nice benefits)
Battery: 9/10 (I got over 5 hours of screen on time; very good for a 3,000mAh battery)
Enter the Huawei Honor 8. I played with a demo model at a local Best Buy and was floored with how well Huawei's in house Kirin 950 processor with 4gb of RAM performed! Now, there are none of the 60+ apps loaded that I would in time load, but I couldn't get the device to stutter when I launched 5 Chrome tabs, switched quickly to the camera and snapped some pics, futzed around with systems settings, and more. This was all without clearing any running apps from memory as well.
The display is vibrant though it's nothing as dazzling as the Galaxy S8's. That being said, this phone is less than half the cost. It's a gorgeous 1080p panel which if driving less pixels does save battery should bode well for your battery. 2K or high res screens are overkill in a device this small in my opinion. Fun fact: Huawei includes a FREE replacement of the front of back glass in the event of a crack or break within the first 3 months. Very nice add on!
The fingerprint sensor is lightning fast and tied with the fastest I've every used. This includes the iPhone 7/7 plus, Galaxy S8, Le Eco Le Pro 3, and more.
Build quality is fantastic with those many panels of glass they use to get those wonderful angled views on the devices back. Just do yourself a favor and get a case as it's ALL glass.
The user interface is actually not too bad. I say this as virtually every company with the exception of Motorola (Lenovo) know how to stay the heck out of the way of stock Android which is very functional and very much in line with what user's want. Huawei's EMUI skin that is overlaid on Android 7.0 is very nice with some decent looking notification/settings panel changes and a fairly untouched user interface minus some artistic flairs. I do not use stock launchers and opt for Nova Launcher every single time, so I can't comment on the stock launcher. The fingerprint reader doubles as a clickable button that can be programmed to do virtually anything when clicked, double clicked, or clicked and held (3 different programmable functions); this is simply fantastic to launch the LED/flashlight, launch the camera, and start audio recording without virtually any effort in my case. Overall, not a bad skin/additional Huawei based functionality!
Battery life was very good and lasted all day, giving me over 5 hours of screen on time in the 2 pointed tests I ran. I used the phone as I normally would and did not top off the battery otherwise. This phone should easily last you through your entire day with moderate to heavy use and has fast charging if needed (you need a compatible charger which includes the charger that comes with the phone). This will obviously vary based on your use cases.
The last major thing I'd like to note is how well the camera generally works. The dual camera setup is supposed to allow for better low light picture taking, which was also something I wanted in a new phone. It captures fantastic stills and performs very well in low light! The auto focus for stills is great, too; lightning fast! The only low point is the auto focus and OIS (optical image stabilization) when shooting video; it's lackluster and won't win you any video of the year awards, but it performs just fine for every day Snapchats and the like. If 4K video shooting is important to you as well, you'll need to look elsewhere.
I should also note that this has a headphone jack which in 2017 is becoming rarer and rarer. There's no widespread replacement to the audio quality of a dedicated headphone jack/good DAC so stop killing 3.5mm before USB C or another option are widely available you crazy phone companies! Good on Huawei for keeping it with this flagship.
Overall this phone presents fantastic value and I plan on keeping it for at least 1 year before I think of upgrading.

I pre-ordered, it arrived on release day, good job guys.
The 15 layers of glass on the back is something every person finds fascinating. The back is like an artists canvas for manufacturers and I can't wait to see what kind of materials we will see in the future. How about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercolor instead of the blue? I like the slippery glass, it doesn't try to sandpaper my fingertips or hold oil.
I would prefer "pure Android" except functionally required add-ons.
The camera is great, it is outperforming my pro Nikon rig about half the time (and with no tripod.) It's sharp, fast, with rich color and usable noise patterns. Sometimes the Nikon produces photos that feel (slightly) better; all that expensive glass does have some science behind it, after all. I wish it had an adjustable lens angle. I'd like to see post-shoot Levels, Exposure, WB, etc more prioritized in the HUD. The post-shoot focus point control is amazing, give whoever designed the UI a raise.
The connector is USB Type C, it is the new specification to replace USB micro and mini-B or whatever else. The guy at Not Best Buy had no idea what I was talking about despite 2 aisles of cables (he did like looking at the back of the phone though.) Anyway if you need a second USB cable, better just order one with the phone. Buy the expensive one because the cheap ones may not follow spec and fry things, supposedly.
I really want a magnetic connector like https://youtu.be/Euz00E3otlQ embedded in the phone. I feel like I have to be careful with the USB Type C or risk damaging the device. How many ins-and-outs before something breaks, and how many if I'm drinking??
Overall I like it a lot.
PRO: It didn't get recalled for catching on fire =P

The Honor 8 is a top of the line smartphone at a midlevel price. I actually think this is a better phone in both quality and price when compared to the likes of a Samsung Galaxy s7 or iPhone 6s. I used to be an Apple supporter but recently switched to android products because I feel Apple software is no longer current and bland. For half the cost of the competitors, you get an equal, if not better, smartphone. It runs fast even with multiple apps open at once and the build quality is top notch. For those interested in the feature, it has an IR transmitter to control TV's and appliances. It is also equipped with a dual lens camera that provides adequate photos. I highly recommend this phone for those with a lower budget or simply do not see a purpose in spending $800 for a phone when you can get the same quality for more than half the price. The one drawback I have has to do with the glass back. It may be pretty, but it is very slippery and can slide off of a slightly slanted table or couch armrest. So, be cautious of where you set it down. However, most smartphone owners seem to buy cases anyway and it may eliminate this issue, but I like to go without the case due to the extra bulk. Overall, this is a great phone and I hope it gains traction in the US for future support.

The honor 8 is a very nice phone and whats make it better is everything you get for the price.
1. Let's start from the design overall of the devices is really nice and feel a lot premium in person that in photos.
2. Its have a really good camera with a lot of option for the user to decide how to shoot a photos if they want to and the front facing camera to me produce great photos with a lot of color representations.
3. The software to me it's really a mixed feeling because first i wasn't a fan of it but ,manage to love it more that hate it, because i know its look a lot like ios i really appreciate the cost and the battery saving feature that provide you with.
4. The battery for what i used it last me for an entire day without having to be worried and the quick charge really help in does moment when you need to charge you phone quickly in less than 30 minutes.
5. Last is the performance is fascinated, i haven't have a lag or problem with the software or the game, because everything run smooth and perfect.
Soo yeah overall i loved the phone, for the design, the battery, cameras and for the price you have a nice phone that can compete with flagship phone for less money.

The Huawei built Honor 8 is a great phone that competes way above its class. I have had many, many Android phones and this by far has been the most satisfying to use. The beautiful design gets many questions when walking around, the 4GB of RAM is enough memory to multitask seamlessly, the dual sensor camera on the back captures extremely good pictures, the touch sensor on the back has many other functions, and the screen is wonderful and allows for you to set the temp (warm or cool) to your preference. The battery is lasting me 16 hours on avg which is wonderful seeing as I am always on it. The only downfall would be the slipperiness of the phone being that it's basically all glass and the speaker is pretty wimpy. Still, if these are the only sub par things on a mid range phone that speaks volumes for how good it is. This phone has no trouble keeping up with the big dogs.

if you like the galaxy phones and iphone, then you will love this phone. this phone takes the best of some of the best known phones out there and puts their own style into. it charges fast, so no more overnight charging. Outstanding battery life. I am a big phone user. Fingerprint scanner is one of the fastest I have ever used. the camera you get is very good, dual camera in the back. beautiful design and great color options.
the only bad thing would be the placement of the fingerprint sensor and that it can be slippery, you can always get a case to fix the issue.

I bought the Huawei Honor 5x about a week ago, not knowing the Honor 8 would be releasing soon. Once I saw on the Honor website that the 8 was releasing 9/2/16 I knew that because I was within my 14 day return window that i was going to return my 5x and get the 8. Man is this phone beautiful. I really really wanted the Blue Sapphire color but my local best buy, ON RELEASE DAY, only ordered 1 Blue Sapphire and 1 White Honor 8. I called at 10:05am to ask for a Sapphire Blue to be put aside for me but the employee told me they did not come in yet. By the time I arrived at the store at 10:30 the only Sapphire Blue was already sold so I bought the only white one. Best Buy should work on stocking more phones, especially on release day.
I got the phone for $399 with a free $50 gift card. Can't beat that deal. This phone is amazing. Blazing fast, beautiful, almost no bloatware and what was installed is easy to uninstall permanently. This phone feels like my old S7, performs like it, and overall, I would honestly take the Honor 8 or the Galaxy S7 because most people don't have the Honor and because it is just as nice looking (maybe even nicer) and the specs are very identical.
Coming from someone who has owned the Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and the S7, iPhone 5s and iPhone 6, this phone is 100% worth the $399 price tag. Don't be fooled by the slightly higher price then Huawei phones usually are, this phone is in another league compared to any other Huawei I've ever seen in my life. Just look at the display phone at Best Buy and you will see what I mean. Huawei really outdid themselves with this phone. I can't believe this phone isn't more popular then it currently is.
With this phone being almost $400 cheaper than an unlocked S7 or an unlocked iPhone 6s, this phone is just as nice, if not nicer. I have ZERO complaints so far and I love this phone. I couldn't have asked for more from a $400 unlocked phone.
If your local Best Buy has the Honor 8 in stock, or you don't mind shipping. DO NOT hesitate, BUY this phone. You will not regret it.
P.S. Btw I was not paid for this review. I sometimes see people post reviews who got the item cheaper or for free, not me. I bought it full price, I just think it's an amazing phone so my review is 100% honest and unbiased.

I purchased this phone primarily for travel. I am a military member and have been all over the world. I needed a less expensive, versatile unlocked phone to take with me that could both take a little bit of a beating and still keep up with me. This phone fit the bill.
Pros: Ample screen size, lightweight, great fingerprint reader, exceptional camera, expandable memory, battery life more than exceeds 24 hours under light usage, very pretty glass back, performance (CPU, memory, internal storage, graphics) is on par with my HTC 10.
Cons: Very slippery without a case, Audio is average (headphones and speaker), screen resolution is slightly less than most current phones, no app tray, too many preloaded apps, screen tends towards a bluish tinge.
Overall: I purchased a tough rubber case that solved the the slipperiness problem and would highly recommend doing so to others. This is a solid performer and is easily on par with most flagship phones going for twice the cost. For me music and movies is a huge selling point due to world travel. While the battery supports longer playback times, the screen and the so so audio capability detract from this somewhat. Not having standard Android and a rather high number of preinstalled apps out of the box is a little annoying but nothing that can't be easily fixed.
Bottom line this is a solid phone that will make any buyer wonder why they would spend more on a flagship phone.

We loved reading your positive review. The Honor 8 definitely earns your 5 star rating with it's solid octa-core processor and it's 12 megapixel dual lens camera. We see that you have purchased a case to give yourself additional traction to the grip of the phone. To fix the bluish tinge to the phone you go to Settings>Display>Color temperature. Here there is a color wheel where you can adjust the phones' color tint. As for the other cons you mentioned such as the lack of an app tray, too many previously installed apps to our research and development team. (SP)

I got this phone to replace my note 7, well at least until my Google pixel XL comes in. Before the recall on the note 7, i kept telling my friends my phone felt like it was lagging, the 1st recall came so I got the replacement and still the same. I ordered the Google phone but of course it was all sold out so I needed a temporary phone. To my surprise, this phone was fast. It's been more than a month and it's still running smooth. The battery last the entire day. The camera is pretty amazing. If my mind wasn't set on the Google phone, this would be my permanent phone. I'll say this, if the Google phone doesn't work out, I'm going back to the honor brand! Bye Samsung

I'm coming from an LG G3 so any 2016 phone would be a major upgrade from that phone. But with a sea of great phones to choose from, how do you? Well, I knew I wanted a good camera, expandable memory, fingerprint sensor, and needed to be fun to hold. This phone is all of that! A lot of people complain about the preloaded software but swapping Google's apps for the default apps and using a different launcher will help greatly. The display is great, the camera keep stunning me with how great it works, and that back glass design is just astounding. But con, it is slippery. Barely any friction at all. But I picked up a clear case to put it in. Adds friction and protection while still showing off the great design and not adding too much to the size of it. One thing I noticed is that when the case is on, some light bleeding is apparent in pictures. So case off for photos? But yeah. I really like this! And for $400 how can you go wrong?

Dual camera's bokeh effect is amazing, the battery life is quality and lasts a full day (plus you have a quick charge option), and finally the finger scanner is very quick and doubles as a shortcut button. Finally, at 5.2" it's easy to handle (looking at you 1+3 and ZTE).
People knock the EMUI but I have no problem with it as a former stock android user. I just compared it to my friend's moto z force and liked that this had most of what I needed/wanted without having to download other apps. Works perfectly with my Fitbit Blaze as well.
Lock screen and notifications could use some work but it doesn't bug me too much. Finally, when you get a new app you'll effectively need to add it to protected so you get all notifications.

I picked up the Blue Sapphire Honor 8 from Best Buy last night, since I needed a new phone quick. And I gotta say, it's pretty awesome, from the smoothness, to the cool features baked into the fingerprint sensor. I've been a fan of Huawei since the original Ascend came to Cricket back when I was in like high school. I'm glad Verizon was being shady and not allowing me to purchase the Z Play outright so I could run it on AT&T, because I would have missed out on this gem. I'm not a camera guy or a specs/benchmark junkie, but I ran through the camera and the Depth of Field app where I can black and white an area of the photo is awesome, and the benchmarks I ran showed it performing better than most flagships minus the Exynos variant Samsungs. Really speaks to benefits of in house production of external and internal components, to me at least.
Now, my only gripes with this phone are minor and can be fixed through an update or accessory makers realizing this device is worth the R&D for accessories.
1. No Tap to Wake or Active Display; I installed Glance Plus to remedy it for the time being (I just wave my hand over the proximity sensor to check time, notifications, etc)
2. No Third Party accessories; I found maybe 2 cases I'm interested in on Amazon, but haven't pulled the trigger yet (I liked the clear AMZER one I used on my LG G5, because it didn't yellow after a while)
3. Would've liked to see maybe a frosted back panel, much like the XPERIA Z5 family, but I'm not broken up over it.
4. When I play music over my Bluetooth system in my Accord, it doesn't display the song info on the either of my head unit screens (I may just have to close and reopen the Apple Music app next time I'm in the car)
But overall I love this phone and what Huawei/Honor is doing to break even more into the US Market. I'm hoping for more of their devices to make it over here, like the Nova, Nova Plus, and the Mate Series for those who want a cheaper but neck and neck quality and experience with the Samsungs Notes and LG's V Series.

Now have had the phone a month and battery life is as good as it's claims. I get 3 days on a charge, wow. This phone is beautiful to look at and and nice to the touch, much better than High End phones phones I have had in the past. It is lightining fast and the screen is extremely sharp, much better than the Samsungs I previously had. The finger print identification works quickly under all conditions and the operating system is only a little different than most Androids but not a problem. I am so glad that it does not come with tons of bloatware, that I have found such a pain in past phones. Big plus ! Love the 32 gig, nice bonus and all for under $400 is unbelievable. Great phone at twice the price.

These days this phone is often on sale if you can wait for it. I bought it a while back for my mom and she loves it. The screen seems better than my iPhone most times and the camera is good as well, although there are definitely better ones out there. For the price, this phone is a wonderful device to live with every day.

I watched this device for a couple months until a good deal finally persuaded me to order it. This device goes on sale frequently - don't pay full price!
I came from a Nexus 5X, and I must say that the Honor 8's boost in performance specs is very welcomed. Multi-tasking is smooth, the battery consumption and management is exceptional, and the camera is far better than the Nexus 5X. The finger print scanner is also incredibly fast and has gestures!
Battery life has really wowed me. I start my day in the 90%-range and always end the day with 35%+ remaining. I'm a heavy user, too. I never overcharge the battery, so I expect this battery performance to continue.
The camera is fast and almost always takes a great shot. I use auto mode the most of the time am happy with what it delivers. The front facing camera, by default, has a "beauty" filter enabled. Annoying, but it's simple enough to turn down or off prior to taking a shot. This "beauty" mode is not in place if you're using a third-party app like Snapchat. Speaking of Snapchat, the app runs very fast on this phone. Combine that with a fairly high resolution front facing camera, and you've got some sweet Snaps.
EMUI is the Honor 8's software experience. I've grown to really like it. At first there are some things you'll get frustrated by (there are no notifications on the lock screen and no app drawer) but I've become quite adjusted and have no problems/gripes as of now. The EMUI pre-loaded apps are not bad too, which is refreshing. EMUI is very iOS-esque: it's very clean and flat and provides you with all the functionality of Android Marshmallow. As of this writing, EMUI 5.0 was announced for the Honor 8, and it's expected to be delivered in February 2017. The EMUI 5.0 update will bring Android Nougat and an updated user experience that will be a bit more normal to Android users. Very exciting!
I took the risk buying this phone - I knew it had some software quirks that I'd have to adjust to, but overall this is a very good device. Four stars because I'd like to see more frequent software updates (monthly security patches from Google), and the ability to turn off the "beauty" filter on the selfie camera (it's odd this doesn't exist). With the promise of upcoming software updates, I look forward to the coming months with this device. Check out a Best Buy store to play with this device in-person before buying...that's what I did and I'm continuing to enjoy it today.

This phone is worth every penny. It's hard to believe a phone this good costs as little as it does. Runs very smooth, which you don't expect in a "cheaper" Android phone. The camera isn't going to compare to the top end phones but it isn't bad. The dual camera setup is pretty cool when you want to take wide aperture photos with a shallow depth of field (blurry background). I'm very happy with my purchase.

I had been using Motorola Moto X phones for probably 3-4 years. I bought two within that time period and was going in to buy the Pure Edition. The sales associate brought me to this phone and I'm so happy she did. The power charging feature is awesome, I charged it for about 20 minutes and the battery went up 60%. Awesome for people always on the go like me. The battery life in general is great, the camera is awesome as well as the features such as the "great food" and "beauty" filter. The storage seems great so far and the call quality is awesome. Definitely a great phone and unbeatable price. I priced matched with Wal-Mart and saved about $50.
