Customers are enthusiastic about the engaging gameplay and enjoyable story of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, with many praising the additional storyline and hours of gameplay it offers. While some players found the frame rate and overall performance to be inconsistent at times, the game's action and content were also frequently highlighted as positive aspects. The game's fun factor was also frequently mentioned. However, some players wished for a more open-world experience similar to Breath of the Wild.

Awesome game!

Good, but...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this game hoping it would be similar to BotW in terms of it being completely open world and allowing me to explore and do whatever I wanted. However, that was not the case with this particular game. There are constraints to what you can do while playing and everything is geared around completing tasks in order to make your character/s stronger. There are a few moments of what could be considered "free play" within a task that allows you to take as much time to wander around and explore within the setting you are in. Pros: - Visually similar to BotW. - Being able to play as other characters - Being able to choose who is in your party for certain activities - Controlling the Devine Beasts Cons: - Not open world gameplay like BotW - A few tasks are time based and do not allow much time for exploration within the environment.

Fun, easy to play, strategy game!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you enjoyed the other Hyrule Warriors game, you'll enjoy this. Takes a bit of practice to get used to all of the controls, but it becomes second nature after a couple battles. A nice "prequel" of sorts to Breath of the Wild, that is simple, button-mashing fun. I would give the edge to the original Hyrule Warriors only because the characters span across all of the Zelda games, whereas this game's characters are from Breath of the Wild (which is a given). The characters are diverse enough to offer different styles of gameplay which is a blast to learn and use.

A must-have for BotW fans!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Short version: if you haven't already, BUY this game! (And the DLCs they're releasing too.) Long version: Like pretty much everyone else, I bought this game based on Eiji Aonuma's appearance at the Nintendo Direct where he said this game would tide us over until the Breath of the Wild sequel came out. Not having played the previous Hyrule Warriors game I had no idea what to expect. So I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I discovered that this is a TERRIFIC game. It builds flawlessly on the BotW mythos but does so in such a way that actually increases my appreciation for the main game. (Spoiler alert: one mission has you defending Fort Hateno, so when you visit the location in BotW and see the wreckage, you think to yourself, "I remember taking part in this epic battle 100 years ago!") The missions and scenarios this game brings you are challenging and fun, yes there are a lot of them but they do build on each other, and unlike some action/adventure games I've played, this one actually has a great storyline. It's even better if you've played BotW and understand the context behind everything that's happening. The controls are a little different, but after the first few minutes you won't even notice. The only thing to really know about this game is that unlike BotW, where you can jump in and out anytime without having to invest a lot of time and attention (if you've only got a couple of minutes you can go defeat a Bokoblin camp or fight a Lynel and then that's it), Age of Calamity wants your attention for more involved missions and scenarios, so my preference is to play this game when I can spare more time and attention, and then leave BotW in for "regular" use so I can get away for five minutes now and again. (All that being said: come on, Mr. Aonuma, release the BotW sequel!)

An unexpected gem
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I played the first Hyrule Warriors, and while I liked it a lot, I admit it was a tiny bit boring. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity works amazingly well, and it's a bit less boring than the first HW. The story is narrated so well, the battles, somehow, feel like you are living them as you play through each level. Not to mention, the graphics are so beautiful, although I am a bit disappointed that the game runs at 30 frames per second. I would still highly recommend this game.

Great story line, lots of content, but....
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this game because I played Breathe of the Wild (by far the best Zelda game IMO). 21 hours played so far as of this review and I’m still not even close to finish so the time is there. The only reason I knocked off a star is when playing in two-player mode, the switch lags quite a bit during fights and can get frustrating. Also, because of the screen being halved, the camera angles can get weird at times and you can lose sight of who you’re fighting which becomes frustrating. I’m still struggling to understand the mechanics of how the weapon leveling works and the combos can be easy to learn. Overall worth the buy, just some performance issues Nintendo could work on to make it a really top notch game.

A chance to explore more BOTW Lore
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you were one to get sucked into the world that was Breath of the Wild, I believe this is a must own game to explore this world more. I absolutely loved the story and the gameplay has offered some good challenges. I believe a few more patches could clean up the framerate drops, but to me it hasn't taken away from the ability to enjoy the game. I have finished the story so far, but it looks like I still have plenty of side missions to attack. I give it a full 4.3/5

So much fun!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great game! Do not expect it to be like BOTW. It is a fighting game where you go through the map fighting enemies. You can earn new characters to play. The amount of new characters is great, but it is hard to keep them all leveled up and ready for when you want to use them, which can be frustrating. However, thoroughly enjoy playing the game and especially love that it is two player.

Fun game but can be grindy
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you like Zelda and 1st party products from Nintendo then this will be a no brainer as it has all the hallmarks of a good game but if you are new to this then i suggest to play Zelda BOTW to get a decent understanding of the lore and story. This is a fun but repetitive game that cannot be completed in a single setting but a looter style game where you grind out and improve to level up your character's, upgrade your weapons, max out their health etc.

Great Musou Warriors game
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you like Hyrule Warriors this game is a must. Tought it was much better than the first one as it is a more focused story. However, it is still a button masher with each character having very similar move sets. Despite what it was built up as in advance this isn't the canon story of the build up to Breath of the Wild. It seems like the first 1/2-2/3 of the game were liekly what happened with a new changed ending that provides more options and a further story for them to tell. So it makes sense to include for the game but beware if you are expecting it to lead into BOTW

A must for fans of the game
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Going back 100 years before breath of the wild. This game explain everything that happened before that game. Imagine yourself being powerful enough to fight thousand of enemies at one time with one swinging the sword or use of a weapon. The graphics are pretty nice. The story is pretty good much better than the first Hyrule Warriors game. Yes this game is the monkey if you’re a fan of the series.

Best Co-Op game on the switch
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing game especially if you're playing with a friend. It is adventure and action packed with a lot of nice details that amplify the game experience. If you're a fan of Breath of the Wild the story is an amazing prequel. While the graphics are similar and bright, it does lag a bit during co-op but doesn't happen a lot. I would def recommend this game if you want to try something new and unique.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’ve seen anything in this game, you pretty much know what you’re getting into and what to expect. Fire Emblem Warriors, Persona 5 Strikers, any of the Dynasty Warriors games and spin-offs, just with a Breath of the Wild skin and prequel story on top. Graphics are good in portable mode, not as good on a big screen, and performance does dip frequently with how many enemies and things are on screen at a given time. Fun, but could be repetitive if you weren’t expected that from any gameplay footage or trailers you might’ve seen.

Great Game!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant to buy this since basically everything that happens storywise doesn't actually matter, but it is still a great story and the gameplay is extremely satisfying. My only problem are the pretty bad frame drops but besides that solid game and great to see what it was like in Hyrule while Calamity Ganon was emerging

Super fun Warriors game with Zelda incorporated!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fun spin on the Musou/Dynasty Warriors style of games. Game has tons of replay value for a single player or multiplayer session. Diverse character and weapon system so you'll find a playstyle fit for you. Only issue is framerates will drop when it gets a little chaotic in terms of flashy abilities and lots of monsters on the screen, but its hardly something I stress about.

Zelda a la Dynasty Warriors style!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A fun hack and slash game like the old Dynasty Warriors series but Zelda themed. It makes you feel pretty powerful when you can go up against 100 enemies at once and come out on top. Also it has a pretty good story! If you are a Zelda fan you will like this! The kids enjoy playing this one too !

Age of Awesome
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're a fan of the original Hyrule Warriors, this game is a must buy! All of the playable characters were enjoyable to control, and the story helps to flesh them out more than BOTW did. It'll satisfy completionists like myself with hours worth of bonus challenges, though at times it can be annoying trying to obtain certain items. A great experience all around!
