    Hyrule Warriors Legends- Truly Legendary

Hyrule Warriors Legends is an incredible game even when compared to its counterpart, Hyrule Warriors, on the Wii U. The amount of content that your receive alongside codes for a 3DS theme and character codes for the Wii U make it more than worthwhile. The 3DS version remains faithful in every way to the Wii U version, but you get to play on the go. WARNING: I did try to play this on a friends original 3DS. Though the game ran at a slower frame rate, it was fairly consistent despite being noticeable. The slow down becomes slower and inconsistent when a boss(es) or a large group of enemies appeared. It is pretty much essential for the user to have a New 3DS or a New 3DS XL model to play. Pros: +Remains faithful to the Wii U version +Some sections had better load times than the Wii U +New versions come with DLC codes for theme and Wii U +Exclusive maps and features Cons: -Playing on the New 3DS is pretty much essential for a decent experience. -Can't sync progress with Wii U

There's very little difference from the basics of the story mode in the Wii U version, but there are many more characters (which can be transferred into the Wii U version) and considerably more content (such as new missions and the entire fairy minigame.) Played on the New 3DS XL, the frame rate was generally solid, but the entire performance takes a solid hit if the 3D is enabled. Graphically, it's excellent for a handheld system, particularly considering the sheer number of characters being generated on the screen at any given time. Cut scenes are gorgeous, as well. While repetitive, there's a lot to like and healthy helpings of it. Good value for the money.

If you didn't get the first Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U then make sure you pick up this copy at least. Although it's a port of a Wii U game that didn't come out too long ago it was done right. The graphics aren't as good as they are on the Wii U but that is too be expected but they still look great. The gameplay plays just as it's does on the Wii U except now it's portable and you can also take advantage of the c-stick hub for better camera control if you own a new nintendo 3ds/XL. You will also be treated to new features and characters in the game and will get a code for a Hyrule Warriors Legends theme for your 3ds as well as a code that will let you download new features onto the Wii U game if you own it. Unfortunately there is no cross save feature but I didn't expect one and one really can't expect one since the base of the game was changed but they did add a nice feature to the game which allows you to reset your save data(only available after update) which was not present on the Wii U version.

Whether you've played the original edition of Hyrue Warriors or not, the 3DS update provides more than enough to keep you busy for hundreds of hours. Legends introduces brand new characters with The Wind Waker, as well as new Adventure maps and weapons. In leiu of co-op, the game lets you swap between multiple characters during a battle. It runs like a dream on the handheld, and includes all the previous DLC from the home console edition. Really, there's no downside to this version!

Hyrule Warriors Legends is, technically speaking, "superior" to the Wii U version. It has much more content (aside from the ability to play as Boss Ganon- that's a Wii U exclusive) and is getting DLC maps the Wii U version is apparently not getting. Obviously the graphics are worse, but if you can look past that it's great! DO NOT BUY if you don't have a New 3DS however, the game runs EXTREMELY poorly on the original, they really should have just made it a N3DS exclusive.

The Hyrule Warriors game we played on the Wii U, is back on the 3DS with new characters and maps! If you have the Wii U version, you will get a code to download these new characters to the Wii U version as well, so you can play them on the big screen too! This game does play best on the New 3DS, as the standard 3DS version will see some slowdown in the later stages, so be aware!

This game works best on a NEW Nintendo 3DS (with the upgraded processor - NOT the original/old model of 3DS). On a New 3DS, this game runs fluidly and displays more soldiers & enemies than on an old 3DS. There is also no slowdown on a new 3DS. The game itself plays like a Dynasty Warriors games wrapped in a Zelda storyline and graphics. Fun game, but again, I'd only advise purchase on a NEW 3DS.

While you might think this is a straight port of the Wii u version at first, it is not! It's a bigger more complete package with improved gameplay that offer the best experience of the game. The Wii U story is here but it has also been added stories of a lot of DLC Wii U characters that didn't get one like the characters of Wind Waker, Linkle and more. The gameplay also has been more polished, now you can switch characters at any moment during a battle, giving you total control of the battlefield. This also allows you to strategically place them and coordinate them around. The graphics may be a downgrade, but the framerate is actually very stable, more than the Wii U Version. Big warning, to really get the most out of the game you need to play it using a New Nintendo 3DS, in older models the game runs slower and doesn't perform as well. It's a game made to show the bigger capabilities of the New 3DS.

If you've played the Wii U version or other Musou then you know what to expect. The game plays exactly like the home console version except with the added ability to switch between heroes while on the battlefield, use special fairies for bonuses, and it has somewhat exclusive content. The performance of the game is about 25-30FPS on the original 3DS systems, 25-30fps on the New 3DS system with 3D on, and about 50-60fps with the 3D off. The 3D effect is disabled on the older hardware. There are still plenty of enemies on screen but visuals are simplified and draw distance is lowered. If you have never played Hyrule Warriors then this is probably the best version for you. If you already played it on Wii U then there's no reason to have it besides collecting.

Faithful reproduction of Wii U original

A good reproduction of the Wii U original with some nice new features, and a few minor drawbacks. Contains the entire story presented in the original, and expands it with new two new Legends gameplay tales: Linkle's Tale, featuring a crossbow-wielding, green tunic wearing heroine, and a Wind Waker epilogue introducing Tetra and the King of Red Lions. The new characters are transferable to the Wii U version with an included eShop code. Adventure mode has been reworked to better balance the introduction of new characters and not give you all the level 3 weapons so early: level 2 weapons have moved to the new Great Sea adventure mode map, which can't be started until you've completed the normal Legend mode play and completed the first scenario of the new Wind Waker epilogue and unlocked Tetra. Level 3 weapons have moved to the Master Quest map, which can't be unlocked until the Great Sea map is cleared. Thus you spend a lot more time with your lower level weapons than before. New features include My Fairy, a customizable add-on that allows you collect fairies as allies and use their magic to wipe out a large number of enemies (or enable other effects) at the cost of your magic meter. This gives you a good way to clear a keep when you badly need to save it or move on to rescuing someone in need, though its addition completely ruins KO competition adventure mode scenarios, as your fairy can wipe out hundreds of enemies at once, giving you an unbeatable jump in your KO count. Also new is the ability to switch characters in a scenario, assuming that character is part of the story for that stage. This fixes the poor ally AI present in the original, in which you'd occasionally have to drop what you were doing and race across the board to rescue them, often ruining chances at completing a scenario in time to earn an A rank. It also allows you to position allies in key positions and switch between them while one runs from one keep to another so you can do more in less time, making those A ranks easier to obtain. Drawbacks are a noticible reduction in rendered character polygons, which is to be expected, but colors have been reduced as well - as if the game is playing at 256 colors. Some blur effects have also been removed, making the flames of the Fire Rod or Naginata appear very basic and artificial. Enemy AI has also suffered, as many will just march right past you and go straight for their target keep while in the original they'd recognize you as a threat and stop to fight you. This causes a lot of situations where you have to constantly chase an enemy, getting in a few hits before its out of range again. Overall though, if you loved the Wii U original or you're a Zelda fan that never got it, this if for you. It has exceptionally high replay value, too: its tough to get bored of it after a few weeks like most games, because its got so many new challenges and scenarios waiting in adventure mode. I'd completed the original two years ago and have had this version a month and still play it daily.

    Unnecessary Installment

Hyrule Warriors on Wii U is the best game on that console, in my opinion. This new installment, HW Legends, is fine, but it doesn't offer much more than the Hyrule Warriors version on Wii U, which is loaded with more content and better graphics. If you don't have a Wii U and wanted to play this game, then Hyrule Warriors Legends is worth it for you. If you're like me and just want to be able to say you've beaten every Zelda game, you might be a little annoyed with this installment as it is nothing more than a step-down version of Hyrule Warriors.

It's a fun game, but the smaller 3ds screen hurts the score a bit. Given the subject nature of the game, it's going to get very chaotic and it feels really cramped on the 3ds compared to the wii u version. I do appreciate the differences to the wii u version though, but it's the sort of game one enjoys on a big screen more. But pick the game for the system you own in the end is what I'd say. If you own a 3ds, get this one, if you own a wii u, get that version. If you have both? I'd personally stick with the wii u.

You might hear that Hyrule Warriors Legends has frame rate problems. On the New Nintendo 3DS, I have little to no problems, especially with the 3D turned off. As an adult gamer, I have found that i have put more hours into this than my PS4 and XB1. Its addicting, and keeps you coming back for more. Before bed you might say, "Oh, I'll just play one more battle." another couple hours later and you've made it through 3 levels. Zelda fan or not, you won't be disappointed.

I bought the first Legend of Zelda 3DS XL that came with A Link Between Worlds. While it is noticeable that my XL has a little bit of trouble keeping up with the frame rate when things get busy, it doesn't bother me too much personally. I'm obviously a fan of the series and just enjoy beating up some bad guys as my favorite characters. A new character is introduced named Linkle who carries two crossbows as weapons, though she is a little clueless. The cartridge come with a free downloadable theme from the Nintendo shop too!

Hyrule Warriors Legends is an enhanced port of the original game that was released on the Nintendo WiiU. Unlike most Zelda games, this one is an action-focused spectacle fighter much like the Dynasty Warriors series. There is an amazing amount of content, but sadly the game does no run too well on the regular Nintendo 3DS. It is recommended to play this on a New Nintendo 3DS. A must-buy for any fan of the Zelda series.

Good Musao, Ugly Port, Not Really Zelda

    |
    |

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First, this is really just a Zelda-themed musao game, not a traditional Zelda game in any sense. If you've played Dynasty Warriors or maybe Dragon Quest Heroes, you know what to expect. If you haven't played those games, you're in for a lot of easy button mashing to slay dozens of monsters at a time while driving objectives in a fairly large map (there are several of these maps). Capture a point and that point will begin to spawn allies. Lose a point, and you'll have to defeat more enemies on your way to further objectives. It's a bit more complex than that, but not really by much. This is also not the original release of Hyrule Warriors. The original was released for WiiU, but this version has no less content. In fact, it has all the expansion content available for the Wii U and then some (and a DLC code for that extra content if you already own the Wii U version). Where this game gets ugly is in that port. Its gameplay doesn't suffer, and its content doesn't suffer, but its appearance does quite a bit. That said, you're playing on a 3DS, and you probably don't expect anything as beautiful as a home console could produce. And if you're into hacking and slashing as Zelda characters mostly mindlessly while listening to Zelda tunes and regarding Zelda scenery, this is a pretty decent choice.

This is an excellent game for the 3DS with hundreds of hours of replayability if you choose to grind everything out. There is extra content here beyond the Wii U version, but probably not enough if you've already played that unless you are a super big fan. Also, I do not recommend playing this unless you have the NEW Nintendo 3ds or NEW Nintendo 3ds XL. It runs very poorly on the old 3DS and 3DS XLs.

A warriors game with the setting of Zelda works surprisingly well. There's lots of unlockables, maps, characters, and modes. If you're purchasing this now in 2017 there's even a one giant dlc pack you can get for 14.99 that includes all individual dlc's that came out for the game. You can easily spend 100+ hours trying to 100% complete the game.
