Great sound bar: theater quality sound experience

I have three sound bars with a little higher price tag and a bigger footprint than this unit. My reviews are based on my experience compared to those I have and the ones I have seen in the store. Overall 5/5 rating based on the price tag and features it offers. This is a new product (Jan 2019) from Denon. I have two high end Denon music receivers and they live up to their name with state-of-the art features on their products. This is a good entry level sound bar - great features with small price tag.
Physical appearance and installation (5/5): Small foot print, low profile, wall mountable with very few wires and set-up was a breeze, just took me 5 mins to link-up all my devices. I have it linked to my iPad and phone via Bluetooth for music and via HDMI cord for TV audio. Love that the sub-woofer is wireless (big plus for convenience as I have Roomba's running around to keep my place clean) and you can place it closer to your seating location to create the movie like experience. Comes with a small remote which is very handy for music (iPad streaming) and I use my TV remote to control the audio volume while watching TV.
Audio (5/5): Supports Dolby Digital, DTS Decoding and the Denon-proprietary Dialogue Enhancer and has crystal clear dialogue at any volume. I cranked up the volume to max and played different kinds of music and volume was crystal clear (no muffled voice at full bass!). Fell a little short on Bass, which is expected given its small footprint and price. Has theater quality sound on movies. The remote has an interesting feature called "dialogue enhancer" and has 1, 2 and 3 options that you can pick, which is helpful when watching movies and TV shows and you don't have to mess with bass settings to enhance the dialogue when you switch from music mode.
Hardware and Connections: Supports Bluetooth, HDMI, and optical input for other devices. I just use the Bluetooth and HDMI. Has mid-range drivers with crisp tweeters and descent (for the price tag) sub-woofer for a live movie experience. It also has an analog input which I didn’t use. It has auto power off feature - shuts off when it doesn't receive a signal for more than 10 mins. Being a tech junkie and audiophile I have to dwell into the details of the music quality this sound bar offers. Below is my personal review on where it stands on the sound quality for its price tag
Frequency Range Frequency Values Comments
Sub-bass 20 to 60 Hz - excellent (5/5)
Bass 60 to 250 Hz - falls a little short on expectation (4/5)
Low midrange 250 to 500 Hz - for harmonics - excellent (5/5)
Midrange 500 Hz to 2 kHz - horn like quality - good (4.5/5)
Upper midrange 2kHz to 4 kHz - sound trimbre - average (3/5)
Presence 4 to 6 kHz - for clarity - excellent (5/5)
Overall (5/5) this speaker is great quality audio for its price tag and footprint. Definitely recommend this for movie and music lovers. This might fall a little short on expectations if you are looking more for bass, obviously the price tag will be lot higher if you want to compare it with top sound bars that uses bigger speakers and woofers.

TL;DR: This soundbar is sleek, compact, sounds pretty great and easy to set up. Bass lacks a little punch in my testing. No wifi casting option.
This is my first soundbar ever and the experience has great with a couple of very minor snags. First off, as I said in my synopsis, the soundbar is sleek and compact. I really like the styling of both the bar and the subwoofer. You can tell the intent of the bar was to produce great sound without being the focal point of your setup and I think that was achieved here.
The sound is impressive and stays clear up to high volumes in the little high-volume testing I've done, but in my opinion the bass lacks a good thump. Maybe it's my source, maybe it's my sub's placement in the room, maybe it's a combination of both. I just feel like it could punch more, but that's not to say it's a bad sub. it's actually pretty good. Just could be a little better. It actually stays impressively clear sounding, which makes it easy to accept the shortage of punch. The rest of the range of sound is great, so I would say overall it has a superb, balanced sound profile.
The only cons I've come up with are as follows. the remote is very basic, and sometimes the bar takes a second to make the changes you've indicated with the remote. I am also unclear if the dialog modes are sub modes of the 3 modes indicated on the remote (music, movie, night). Is it music mode with dialog enhanced or is it where if you pick dialog enhance 1 it shuts off the previous mode? I am not clear on that. Just press mode buttons until your content sounds optimal would be my tip. The other is that you can only pair your phone via bluetooth, which I believe forces you to compromise your sound quality. I wish it had a casting feature to avoid that. Smart features might be appreciated by some as well for this price point, but it didn't personally bother me.

I decided to get this soundbar for my second TV (a 55") that sits on top of a cabinet. I picked it mainly for its smaller size so the subwoofer would fit behind the TV and stay out of sight. The soundbar fits perfectly in front of the TV, too, so I was very happy how everything fit together.
The best thing, though, was how super easy it was to connect and set up everything. My TV had the HDMI ARC port, so I just had to plug that in, then the two power cords. I didn't have to do anything to connect the wireless subwoofer, it just worked perfectly the first time. I was also able to bluetooth pair my phone on the first attempt, then everything was ready to go.
It comes with a remote to switch between inputs and adjust volume, but I've found that I don't really need to use it. Just using the default levels on the soundbar, I'm able to adjust the volume via the TV to as loud or quiet as I need. When I switched to bluetooth streaming, I found I was able to do the volume just fine with my phone, too. I do have to turn the soundbar on before using it, but when I turn the TV off it automatically turns the soundbar off so that's nice.
So it's easy to set up and use, but the most important thing is the sound quality. I could not be happier with the quality of this one. Voices are clear when watching TV, and music sounds awesome when streaming. I'm super happy with this Denon and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a system that won't take up a huge amount of space.

Best sounding 2.1 soundbar

Let's be honest, flatscreen TV's are awful when it comes to their inbuilt speakers and you need a soundbar, but upgrading to a full 5.1 sound system is expensive and often not worth it for the 2nd TV in your basement or den. So that's what led me to the Denon (side note, a brand I have always associated with quality since the days when I use to use Denon audio equipment in a radio station). First, KUDOS to Denon for including a HDMI AND an optical cable in the box. Thank you! Out of the box, you'll notice the Denon is compact and light, but don't let that fool. Setup was quick and audio quality is impressive for a 2.1. Voice tracks are crystal clear and there is a dialogue enhancer feature on the remote - Denon deserve credit for tuning the speakers for ensuring you can hear the voices in what you watch. Worth noting though, the remote is super simple which has benefits (less to confuse other family members) but it also lacks the ability to serve as single universal remote for your TV/HT setup. FYI the bass unit is wireless and paired to the main soundbar automatically. Sharing that info. because I have had wireless bass units from other manufacturers sometimes struggle to connect. Overall, quality unit, easy to setup, best sound I have heard out of a 2.1 unit and wouldn't hesitate to move this into my living room (over the basement kids TV where it's currently doing duty). If you are after a compact, great sounding 2.1 home theater setup you won't be disappointed.

Had not heard of Denon brand before getting this product, but they've apparently been around for 100 years according to the box of this product. Well, they are officially on my radar now, as the sound quality of this product exceeded my expectations.
Product was very easy to connect to tv, and profile of sound bar was perfect for placing this at base of flat screen without compromising view or remote signals. Wireless sub woofer has own power cable separate from sound bar, and comes already synched to sound bar. Excellent sound from woofer even though strictly Bluetooth connection to bar.
Bar has multiple buttons and lights, and aside from recognizable symbols for power and Bluetooth, no further instructions are given in set-up guide for how to actually operate this device. I thought product was lighting up but not actually working, until I accidentally pressed a button twice in a row and got a different set of lights to turn on, which led to "discovering" how to actually activate and deactivate the active sound through the bar. This was almost as frustrating as the packaging of the product (a whole other story). Once activated, it was very easy to pair my phone via Bluetooth (one of the quickest pairings ive ever had). Remote has three sound settings that are helpful, along with three separate settings for vocal clarity (remote is not backlit, but really should be, especially since the buttons use a darker color writing than white), and direct control of input source and bass & volume level.
Sound is very rich and full, and base is clear and thumping, all at lower volume levels. Huge sound if you want to crank it up. I'd give it a 4.5 due to the packaging and lack of critical instructions, but am rounding up to a 5 since it does perform excellently, has Bluetooth and wired connectivity, and comes with remote and all connecting cables (things that some soundbars neglect to do). I'd definitely recommend to everyone, although I'd warn them about the lack of detailed instructions in the box and the mounds of packaging tape you have to get through to get the box open. Overall, a quality product from Denon. Couldn't ask for more in a 2.1 system.

This sound bar would not start sometimes when I turned on the tv. I have to manually turn on the power from remote control. Everything else is ok, Bluetooth connects with phone no problem.
