I had a drive kicking around on my desk that needed a housing. Nothing fancy; just something to protect it from static and other nasties. This little case was available, so I bought it. Assembly went fast and without fault. I am pleased.

Quality product that it seems is a necessity since the laptop I bought only has a 512 GB SDD drive and does not have enough storage space for pictures, videos, and personal files. That means I am stuck with an external HDD.

The connection works, but the enclosure itself is too small to fit the hard drive, so I don't use it and there is no enclosure to protect my hard drive.

I wanted to recover the data from my old (very old) laptop, which just died on me. In less than 15 minutes, I had my old hard drive enclosed in this beauty and hooked to my new laptop. My old files live on without having to dig them out of a backup.

I picked this up because I was transferring data from my old mechanical HDD to a solid HDD , I decided to store the old HDD in this unit afterward. It doesn’t seem like it offers much protection, it’s a simple thin plastic shell and the connector plate is also made of the thin plastic ... but it does it’s job

Needed enclosure for an old Laptop hard drive. Just plug in and it works.

I usually do read reviews before I make an electronics purchase, but in this case I didn't read any reviews. This Insignia Drive Enclosure works really well, but my only complaint is you have to unscrew it and take it apart to install your drive, then screw it back together. Doesn't make switching drives very easy. Other than that, no complaints!

good device for storing data. Easy to access and retrieve information.

I bought this to recover files from a functioning hard drive that was in a laptop with a corrupted Windows 7 operating system. The unit functioned perfectly and allowed access to the files for saving to another drive. Then a full recovery was performed on the laptop which is again working well.

I had an old computer with a 2.5" sitting it. Decided to pull it out and use it as an external for my Xbox One. Works perfectly. The quality of the case is premium, surprising coming from Insignia. A little over priced, but work paid for it, so I went with it.

One of my SATA cables went bad on my power supply. I used this because I thought I fragged my hard drive. Good to learn it was just a cable. The build quality is really nice and the usb 3.0 cable is decently long.

The enclosure works as stated. No surprises here. Easy to assemble.

I am only giving this a five star because it works for hard drives that are newer. If you're needing a converter for an older hard drive, this isn't the one. I tested this guy on one of my newer hard drives and it worked great. Good transfer speeds but I wasn't buying this for my newer hard drive.

I purchased this, to try to recover data, from some mechanical hard drives; that had failed to boot and wouldn't work, in some laptops that I was working on. I was able to use this enclosure, to access the hard drives and get the data off of them, before they totally failed. In that respect they worked fine. One of the screws wouldn't tighten well; as the screw threads are inside a "u" shaped portion of the aluminum case. It might be possible to tighten this with some pliers. The included USB cable was hard to connect to the case; I struggled at first but eventually, was able to insert it, as it needed to. Overall it worked for what I was doing but I thought the threads, USB connections, case quality, could be improved. As always, you get what you pay for.

Dropped this on the floor twice now and the Hardrive is still ticking.

I'm glad I saved my money and avoided the pricier "name brand" enclosures. This thing is sturdy, has a decent enough look that if you leave it on your desktop it doesn't look out of place. Comes with everything you'll need to get started except a drive, which is totally up to your desires!

I used this to remove info from my old computer’s hard drive. Since my hard drive was fine despite the computer not working, I removed the hard drive from my computer, put it in this, and now I use it as an external hard drive.
