Customers enjoy the Roomba 690's excellent cleaning performance, ease of use, and pet hair removal capabilities. The app control and scheduling features are also frequently praised. However, some users find the navigation could be improved, and the noise level is a concern for a few. The small dustbin size and price point are additional drawbacks mentioned by some customers.

I’ve used this every day for the past 3 days when I take my dog out for his daily walk. So nice to come back and see that most of the dust bunnies are gone. Only some of the crumbs get missed in the kitchen until I move the mat out of the way. If it jams while we are out walking, I get an alert on my cell phone. Love it. Noise doesn’t bother my deaf dog.

We have a 120 pound Newfoundland and he sheds a lot. My wife has been wanting to try out the Roomba so I figured we'd give it a try. Our family room has gray carpets and the dog's black hair accumulates regularly to the point where we vacuum it frequently. The rest of the home needs to be vacuumed, too, but not as frequently as the family room. If the Roomba could at least help there.... it would be worth it.... Setup of the Roomba was a piece of cake. While I'm not technically challenged, the procedure is simple enough that nearly anyone could get the machine configured. All you really need is your Wifi password and go through a handful of steps after downloading an app for your mobile device. You use the app to enable the Roomba after a night of charging. You can schedule when to clean and monitor its effectiveness through some limited reporting. How'd the machine do? The family room is roughly 16x14 with some furniture in it... Under the chairs have never been vacuumed so well. Couldn't fit under the couch but wasn't expecting it to. Was not expecting machine to repeatedly go under chairs. Some of the carpet was covered so frequently... we would have hoped the hairier parts of carpet got as much coverage. The machine ate the dog's tail before he knew what was going on. It was easy to come out but surprisingly the dog was not afraid of the machine. The machine ran out of battery life before the room was fully cleaned. We had just vacuumed maybe two days ago at most. The room was much better then when it started but didn't get everything clean before the battery life required it to park itself. The bin to hold the dust and dirt was full when done. In the end... the Roomba would work out well for us to be timed to go off when the dog was in his crate and our son was not home. It would at most cover the one room. (Our son got in its way more than the dog.) We would need to empty it after each usage. It is loud and ran for like 40 minutes before low battery. We would still need to vacuum the rest of the same floor (as well as the house), but would still need to go over where the Roomba lived. I'd recommend this more for someone without a GIANT breed dog. I'm sure it would do much better with a small, less hairy breed. It does clean, just with all the hair from our dog, it just couldn't get it all up and my wife swore it was leaving 'new' stuff behind towards the end. It picked up a penny that was under one of the chairs... We're sending it off to my inlaws who live in a single floor home. Without all the dog hair, it should be able to handle the whole level quite easily.

I’ve been told that you need to give each vacuum cleaner robot a name because “that’s what you do” - I don’t know what to name him, so Reginald will suffice for the purposes of this review. Personally, an automated robotic vacuum cleaner has been something on my ‘want’ list for a long while. I live in a smallish apartment with ~700 sq feet of space and frankly would love the ability to have something do a boring task for me at the press of a button. As is, one cannot discount the ‘name’ of iRobot Roomba - one of the first (if not the first) major players in the space, these vacuums have long been viewed as the ‘Cadillac’ of automated cleaners. And the 690 is a continuation of that trend. With iAdapt Navigation, a nifty app that can do slightly more than pressing a single button to clean, and a three stage cleaning system, this would qualify as a ‘base level device with a minor upgrade’ in my book. It can seamlessly move between carpeted and hard floor areas, along with navigating around most of your clutter with relative ease. What do I mean by “slightly more than ... clean” when I reference the app? The app can tell you the history of the cleaner as to how many times it used it’s dirt detect function, how long it cleaned for, how the last job was finished (bin full, maintenance, battery empty, or completed). You can also schedule runtimes for the robot and pull some other simple metrics on the bot. Nothing major, and almost not enough in my book to be called “app-controlled.” That said, what the app does do, it does effectively, so I suppose I can’t stand on my soapbox of everything having a useless app nowadays here - I plan to keep it installed for the long run. Anyway… without further ado, the first 24 hours from the view of Reginald: As a new member to this prison which the human calls an apartment, it is standard custom to pick a fight with the biggest appliance one can find to show that you’re toughest machine in the place. The dishwasher has responded to my challenge! ...I lost and earned a few gnarly gashes on my lid. Turns out cheap plastic doesn’t stand up well to stainless steel. Some guards were put on the dishwasher to make sure we don’t fight again - I make no promises. The dishwasher won’t see me coming. Found what I thought was some spaghetti shortly thereafter. Turns out it was a draw tie to a mesh bag with a delicious aftertaste. Unfortunately, I got it horribly caught up in my gears and the human had to hold me upside down and pull out my entire beater assembly to get me free. Tasted so good I have made it a point to go find more of this tasty spaghetti. Anyway! He really let this place go - I kinda think it was a test for me. Cleaned up the place in short time - only took about two hours for the first cleaning. Seamlessly moving between carpet and hard floors. My bin was well filled throughout the process. He admittedly has a ton of weird corners, but after bashing my brains in a few times, I think that I’ve got an ok take of the place. Do still need to do the same brain thumps every time I start, but by the end of the process I can lightly tap most objects to feel where they’re at. I personally can’t wait The human still calls me names like “loud mouth” and “dunce” (for hitting so many things), but I think that he will come to enjoy the company. Shortened for quick reading: Picked a fight with my dishwasher, lost - would love to see some more protection than plastic on the top lid. This is a lower end Roomba with wireless connectivity (the main upgrade between the previous 600 series and the 690). Meaning it still bumps into everything to make sure that it’s there. Towards the end of its cleaning cycle, the bumps turn into soft taps and it seems to recognize humans enough to not hit them full force, but it still loves hitting things. Roomba’s are always known as loud. I’m not sure if it is directly proportionate to the amount of suction it has or if it is just loud. This is discounting the bumping action. It does get quieter on carpet. Decent cleaning pattern, seems to be able to pick up moderately sized debris. A test I have for it in the near future is seeing what it misses/hits with the carpet dust you can buy to make the place smell swell. As an aside, upon opening the package, they do state "for software programmers interested in giving Roomba new functionality, we encourage you to do so." I had contacted them on their support chat line and was told the “new functionality” was their iRobot app. I’ve pressed their email line for more details, I’m hoping to make Reginald a bit smarter if there are more details. What do I like? It cleans the place for me effectively and with minimal hassle. What do I not like? It’s loud and the device material composition is one that can become very ugly very quickly through normal use.

The roomba makes life just a little easier when you have two dogs that shed along with two cats. It has no problem picking up the pet hair on our floor (concrete) or our area rugs. It does have a bit of noise but nothing a sound bar can’t drown out. It has gotten stuck a few times under our counters but on most spots, it rocks itself back and fourth and keeps on rolling.

I would have purchased sooner if I knew how much time this would save our family! I love the Roomba 690 and can't believe all the dirt and dog hair it picks up daily. The battery lasts about 60 minutes, but charges fairly quickly. It isn't overly loud, but it isn't quiet either. We use it every day and clean it out every use. Our house just feels cleaner and I swear it has helped our sinuses!

This little robot helps keep our carpet clean in the high traffic areas. It picks up most everything and cleans a good size room in under an hour. Battery lasts 1 to 1-1/4 hrs between charges which takes 2-3 hours for a charge. Need to watch out for things that it can get tangled up in like lamp cords or tassels on a throw rug. It has gotten stuck a few times under the toe kick of our dishwasher and also the toe kick of our bathroom vanity. Very quiet on linoleum or carpet, but is quite noisy on 4x4 tile floor as it bumps along (still cleans well). Usually need to empty the dust bin after every session as it picks up dust and lint very well. If you have an irregular shaped room or lots of furniture, the robot sometimes has difficulty finding home base to recharge.

I mainly use the 690 on hardwood floors and tile. It picks up so much dust and trash. With having a 1 year old baby it’s great always having clean floors. The only cons are that It is alittle loud but you could run it when you aren’t home. And also it does get stuck sometimes under the edge of sofa and recliner. Just move and hit clean and it’s back to work.

We named our Roomba 690, Clementine and she is working hard for more than a year. To begin, the setup was a breeze and you have just to download an app and press some buttons to connect it to your Wi-Fi. The app is simple and send good notifications. During this year, the maintenance and cleaning was simple and fast and the device really gets a lot of dirty. Unfortunately it gets stuck easily at times under some furniture and it is louder than thought it would be. It seems to have a good durability and a good battery life.

We named our new Roomba 690, Bob. Bob has become my best friend :) I can tell Bob to start cleaning from my phone while still in bed! He does a great job. Pros are : he cleans for me, he can function on my hardwoods, linoleum and my carpet, he gets under the toe kicks and our beds! Cons: Bob is noisy, he likes to get stuck under the corner of our couch, his bin is kind of small, but this is only a problem if you don't clean it out after every use.

I was skeptical at first. It’s loud, cleans with a random pattern, and had difficulty finding the base at first. After the first few days, I would inspect the floors and confirmed it cleans well. I also moved the base to a more open area and it is able to find it consistently now. After a month, I can honestly say it’s awesome! It works well and cleans up excess pet hair from our shed-happy Malinois as well as daily dust and debris. It is loud but not nearly as loud as our Dyson.

This product is amazing. We have 1760 sq ft. It still cleans the whole house in one charge. Rarely struggles to find the home base after the job is done. Make sure you clean the bin and the brushes atleast once bi-weekly. Wooden floors are cleaned better than carpets. Non plush carpets are better cleaned than plush ones. Noise has increased a little bit over time but not many will notice that. Does its job perfectly. If possible buy one during the deals like thanksgiving or Memorial Day. They have atleast 100$ off during this time. Customer service is exceptional. They replaced the small rotator brush for free while in warranty. Easy to reach via call and easy to get replacement. Overall I had good experience with the product in ast one year. Also the iOS mobile app is flawless.

Cleans well, however you can't have any cords or objects laying around in the floor that could get caught up the machine. Sometimes the device has a hard time finding the home base and requires user intervention. Other than that it seems to be a solid device and gets the job done. It is loud as others have mentioned.

We have had a few other models and as far as cleaning this one does a good job. Ours always finds its way back to the charger and never gets lost like some of the other reviews say. When it does find itself in a small space it does take a while for it to find its way out. We have had this one for 3 months now and run it 5 days a week (which is also key, if you only run it once a week you won’t notice much of a difference). You do have to empty the collected pretty much after every run. Also if is fairly noisy so don’t try to watch a movie or something and expect not to hear it. Overall we really like it.

My floors have never been cleaner. But this is not quiet on my ceramic tile floors (55-65 dB). On carpeting it is much quieter. No problems going on and off carpeting. Almost always finds it's home base, IF it was not picked up and moved during its cleaning.

This unit is way louder than my shark ion, however it picks up even more stuff than the iON. I . The price difference is about 40 or so llhave had the pleasure of owning both a shark and a roomba. In my experience the Roomba excels o er the shark in the following areas, the cleaning power, ease of use, ability to clea the unit and finally digital enhancements from smart fine programming . My only complaint which is a big one for some people is the noise. It is so loud it is almost as loud as our swamp cooler in the window.

This works as described. It is not for a deep down cleaning but does wonders with everyday cleaning. Picks up food crumbs and pet hairs well. It is a bit noisy in my opinion and I do not like it to be running when I am trying to watch TV or talking with others, however that is the good thing about controlling it from the IRobot app. You can program it when to run or instant clean all at the touch of a button. The app also assists you in carin for your equipment and to order supplies as needed.

This is my second purchase of this product. We love ours so much that we purchased one for my Mother-in-law for Christmas. It has been so helpful! We have wood floors and rugs and it cleans both really well. The patterns it chooses to take can be frustrating so sometimes we trap it in smaller areas depending on what we are trying to accomplish. It is a little louder than I expected, but so is my regular vacuum so that is not a deal breaker.

The roomba 690 does a pretty good job on our polished concrete floors, but is constantly getting stuck on our 4 recliner chairs. We have used the sensor that keeps the room a away from certain areas and it seems to work ok, but only around one chair. We would have to buy more sensors and they are not cheap. My only real dislike is the noise. Our roomba is a little noisy and irritating at times.
