Customers enjoy the Roomba 690's excellent cleaning performance, ease of use, and pet hair removal capabilities. The app control and scheduling features are also frequently praised. However, some users find the navigation could be improved, and the noise level is a concern for a few. The small dustbin size and price point are additional drawbacks mentioned by some customers.

I researched several vacubots, I even called manufacturers with questions. I was not sure if this little powerhouse would manage all the transitions from carpet to hardwood in my house. It did great! some are as much as 3/4" differences but this litle vacubot angled right up them. It is very easy to set up, exclude areas and operate. My only issue is my dogs love to bark at it. Oh well,..beats an hour vacuuming every day! It did a great job of cleaning but be sure to empty the bin and clean the brush heads every 3rd use.

Pros: * powerful suction. I left a Scrabble board on the floor in my basement and it sucked up all the wooden tile pieces and finished vacuuming. (See attached photo) * you can stop and start it from your phone * you can set a schedule and always come home to a clean house. * it’s really good at navigating around large clutter. It will eat small clutter. Cons: * I couldn’t sync my iRobot account with my Alexa account. It just keeps saying “try again later”. So i can’t control my Roomba from my Sonos One. But I can control it from my phone. And I can schedule it to run automatically. * it does bang into walls and furniture. After one day the entire Roomba is covered in scratches and paint marks from all of the collisions. Fortunately, I haven’t noticed visible damage to my walls or furniture. Yet. * if your floor or sofa aren’t perfectly level the Roomba can wedge itself under the sofa and get stuck.

Purchased roomba just few weeks back. It was my first robo vacuum so was very confused which one to pick initially. Glad I picked it, it does its job almost near to perfection. However some times it has issue with carpet cleaning and I have to switch mode to spot cleaning which works fine. Second problem, some times it runs out of battery during searching its base. My house is around 900 Sq fit, and it cleans complete house in same battery charged.

Our previous Roomba was worn out and this one has a longer battery life and works very well. It would have had 5 stars had they included 2 Virtual wall barriers, instead of just one. Fortunately, my previous 2 work with this unit, so I now have 3 barriers - which really helps .

This is the best investment we've made in a long time! We have 3 dogs that are all indoors & our floors were covered in sand/hair. Not anymore! I can walk around barefoot & not have to worry about dusting my feet off before I relax on the couch. The cleaning pattern is all over the place, but we have ours set up to clean every day & it makes no difference.

We have a 120 pound Newfoundland and he sheds a lot. My wife has been wanting to try out the Roomba so I figured we'd give it a try. Our family room has gray carpets and the dog's black hair accumulates regularly to the point where we vacuum it frequently. The rest of the home needs to be vacuumed, too, but not as frequently as the family room. If the Roomba could at least help there.... it would be worth it.... Setup of the Roomba was a piece of cake. While I'm not technically challenged, the procedure is simple enough that nearly anyone could get the machine configured. All you really need is your Wifi password and go through a handful of steps after downloading an app for your mobile device. You use the app to enable the Roomba after a night of charging. You can schedule when to clean and monitor its effectiveness through some limited reporting. How'd the machine do? The family room is roughly 16x14 with some furniture in it... Under the chairs have never been vacuumed so well. Couldn't fit under the couch but wasn't expecting it to. Was not expecting machine to repeatedly go under chairs. Some of the carpet was covered so frequently... we would have hoped the hairier parts of carpet got as much coverage. The machine ate the dog's tail before he knew what was going on. It was easy to come out but surprisingly the dog was not afraid of the machine. The machine ran out of battery life before the room was fully cleaned. We had just vacuumed maybe two days ago at most. The room was much better then when it started but didn't get everything clean before the battery life required it to park itself. The bin to hold the dust and dirt was full when done. In the end... the Roomba would work out well for us to be timed to go off when the dog was in his crate and our son was not home. It would at most cover the one room. (Our son got in its way more than the dog.) We would need to empty it after each usage. It is loud and ran for like 40 minutes before low battery. We would still need to vacuum the rest of the same floor (as well as the house), but would still need to go over where the Roomba lived. I'd recommend this more for someone without a GIANT breed dog. I'm sure it would do much better with a small, less hairy breed. It does clean, just with all the hair from our dog, it just couldn't get it all up and my wife swore it was leaving 'new' stuff behind towards the end. It picked up a penny that was under one of the chairs... We're sending it off to my inlaws who live in a single floor home. Without all the dog hair, it should be able to handle the whole level quite easily.

I’ve been told that you need to give each vacuum cleaner robot a name because “that’s what you do” - I don’t know what to name him, so Reginald will suffice for the purposes of this review. Personally, an automated robotic vacuum cleaner has been something on my ‘want’ list for a long while. I live in a smallish apartment with ~700 sq feet of space and frankly would love the ability to have something do a boring task for me at the press of a button. As is, one cannot discount the ‘name’ of iRobot Roomba - one of the first (if not the first) major players in the space, these vacuums have long been viewed as the ‘Cadillac’ of automated cleaners. And the 690 is a continuation of that trend. With iAdapt Navigation, a nifty app that can do slightly more than pressing a single button to clean, and a three stage cleaning system, this would qualify as a ‘base level device with a minor upgrade’ in my book. It can seamlessly move between carpeted and hard floor areas, along with navigating around most of your clutter with relative ease. What do I mean by “slightly more than ... clean” when I reference the app? The app can tell you the history of the cleaner as to how many times it used it’s dirt detect function, how long it cleaned for, how the last job was finished (bin full, maintenance, battery empty, or completed). You can also schedule runtimes for the robot and pull some other simple metrics on the bot. Nothing major, and almost not enough in my book to be called “app-controlled.” That said, what the app does do, it does effectively, so I suppose I can’t stand on my soapbox of everything having a useless app nowadays here - I plan to keep it installed for the long run. Anyway… without further ado, the first 24 hours from the view of Reginald: As a new member to this prison which the human calls an apartment, it is standard custom to pick a fight with the biggest appliance one can find to show that you’re toughest machine in the place. The dishwasher has responded to my challenge! ...I lost and earned a few gnarly gashes on my lid. Turns out cheap plastic doesn’t stand up well to stainless steel. Some guards were put on the dishwasher to make sure we don’t fight again - I make no promises. The dishwasher won’t see me coming. Found what I thought was some spaghetti shortly thereafter. Turns out it was a draw tie to a mesh bag with a delicious aftertaste. Unfortunately, I got it horribly caught up in my gears and the human had to hold me upside down and pull out my entire beater assembly to get me free. Tasted so good I have made it a point to go find more of this tasty spaghetti. Anyway! He really let this place go - I kinda think it was a test for me. Cleaned up the place in short time - only took about two hours for the first cleaning. Seamlessly moving between carpet and hard floors. My bin was well filled throughout the process. He admittedly has a ton of weird corners, but after bashing my brains in a few times, I think that I’ve got an ok take of the place. Do still need to do the same brain thumps every time I start, but by the end of the process I can lightly tap most objects to feel where they’re at. I personally can’t wait The human still calls me names like “loud mouth” and “dunce” (for hitting so many things), but I think that he will come to enjoy the company. Shortened for quick reading: Picked a fight with my dishwasher, lost - would love to see some more protection than plastic on the top lid. This is a lower end Roomba with wireless connectivity (the main upgrade between the previous 600 series and the 690). Meaning it still bumps into everything to make sure that it’s there. Towards the end of its cleaning cycle, the bumps turn into soft taps and it seems to recognize humans enough to not hit them full force, but it still loves hitting things. Roomba’s are always known as loud. I’m not sure if it is directly proportionate to the amount of suction it has or if it is just loud. This is discounting the bumping action. It does get quieter on carpet. Decent cleaning pattern, seems to be able to pick up moderately sized debris. A test I have for it in the near future is seeing what it misses/hits with the carpet dust you can buy to make the place smell swell. As an aside, upon opening the package, they do state "for software programmers interested in giving Roomba new functionality, we encourage you to do so." I had contacted them on their support chat line and was told the “new functionality” was their iRobot app. I’ve pressed their email line for more details, I’m hoping to make Reginald a bit smarter if there are more details. What do I like? It cleans the place for me effectively and with minimal hassle. What do I not like? It’s loud and the device material composition is one that can become very ugly very quickly through normal use.

I honestly think that making you name your roomba as soon as you install the app is marketing genius. I'm on to you i-robot, anthropomorphizing a vacuum is the surest way to embed it into the hearts of consumers, and that was smart, because I wouldn't put up with this behavior from my vacuum. But for Rosario, my lovable little scamp of a robot pal, I'll make some concessions, because yeah she's not perfect but darn it, she's doing her best! 1. Program it to vacuum while you're out! Ok so to be fair, this is an option for people without pets, but when you have a cat that likes to leave you presents around the house while you're away, be they dead mouse, cat sick, or hairballs, you don't necessarily want your vacuum to find these and smear them all over the carpet. However, I can just hit the "clean" button while I'm walking out the door after doing a sweep for cat related concerns to minimize that risk to negligible levels, so I let that concern go. 2. Just turn it on and it does the work! Yeah she CAN NOT detect and navigate around clutter. so you have to pick up before turning it on. Which, it feels like I shouldn't have to clean up first for my judgemental robot to DO HER JOB, but in the end, I have been keeping my entire house cleaner so I guess I'll let this one go too. 3. Girlfriend gets lost. And this is where I'm starting to see the brilliance in naming your vacuum, because this is an annoying feature for an appliance, but just sad for your lil' robo-buddy. I cannot tell you the number of times I've come home to see poor Rosie, cowering in a corner, battery totally dead, because she didn't know how to get back home. so I have to pick her up, carry her to her base and let her sleep it off. how much vacuuming did she actually get done? Who knows, but she tried her best! Other places I've found her include: trapped between the legs of an end table wedged underneath the kitchen cabinets leashed to a dining room table by my charging cord which she successfully half pulled into her bin and is she also my teenage child? because she frequently locks herself in the bathroom. still, despite her flaws, I would actually recommend this product. I didn't even want one in the first place, but my floors are cleaner on a regular basis, and the tumbleweeds of cat hair across the hardwood are a thing of the past. I wouldn't spend the money on the more expensive models because I just don't believe they'll solve enough of these problems to justify the high price tag, but this was a good buy and I'm glad I have it.

The roomba makes life just a little easier when you have two dogs that shed along with two cats. It has no problem picking up the pet hair on our floor (concrete) or our area rugs. It does have a bit of noise but nothing a sound bar can’t drown out. It has gotten stuck a few times under our counters but on most spots, it rocks itself back and fourth and keeps on rolling.

This little robot helps keep our carpet clean in the high traffic areas. It picks up most everything and cleans a good size room in under an hour. Battery lasts 1 to 1-1/4 hrs between charges which takes 2-3 hours for a charge. Need to watch out for things that it can get tangled up in like lamp cords or tassels on a throw rug. It has gotten stuck a few times under the toe kick of our dishwasher and also the toe kick of our bathroom vanity. Very quiet on linoleum or carpet, but is quite noisy on 4x4 tile floor as it bumps along (still cleans well). Usually need to empty the dust bin after every session as it picks up dust and lint very well. If you have an irregular shaped room or lots of furniture, the robot sometimes has difficulty finding home base to recharge.

Pros: cleans carpet and hard floors w/o adjustment. Programmable from smart phone or ipad. Works in and around furniture and rarely gets stuck. Cons: Sometimes can't find the docking station in areas which have nooks or open rooms off the main room.

Note that I have not yet let the Roomba run for a complete cleaning cycle so can't accurately estimate a whole house vacuuming time-frame nor how much of the house it will access [single-story house here]. It's somewhat fun to watch it go through its paces, though; given the clearance vertically and horizontally it will go anywhere and, occasionally, require being lifted and moved to continue cleaning. I've tried to determine it's cleaning "logic" but have not been able to detect any patterns as it will re-vacuum previously cleaned areas multiple times. Bottom line: It cleans well whether on carpet, rugs or hardwood. The attached shows a section of rug that defeats it's ability to run normally and the instructions do say dark surfaces can be problematic but I have another all-black runner that the Roomba cleans with no problems. As you would with any vacuum, pick stuff up off the floor! I like the app [Android here] - it's basic, does what I need [configure Roomba for WiFi, control it, schedule cleanings]. The included virtual wall barrier works perfectly keeping the unit out of designated areas. The dust bin is smallish out of necessity but the bin, filter and brushes are easy to clean so figure on much more frequent maintenance than a regular vacuum. I'm not getting rid of my [insert brand here] upright just yet though...but for now it's definitely growing on me.

We named our Roomba 690, Clementine and she is working hard for more than a year. To begin, the setup was a breeze and you have just to download an app and press some buttons to connect it to your Wi-Fi. The app is simple and send good notifications. During this year, the maintenance and cleaning was simple and fast and the device really gets a lot of dirty. Unfortunately it gets stuck easily at times under some furniture and it is louder than thought it would be. It seems to have a good durability and a good battery life.

We named our new Roomba 690, Bob. Bob has become my best friend :) I can tell Bob to start cleaning from my phone while still in bed! He does a great job. Pros are : he cleans for me, he can function on my hardwoods, linoleum and my carpet, he gets under the toe kicks and our beds! Cons: Bob is noisy, he likes to get stuck under the corner of our couch, his bin is kind of small, but this is only a problem if you don't clean it out after every use.

Works great most of the time. Good value in this price range. Easy to use with phone app ... I've started cleaning when I'm away. Not perfect. No robot I've seen will do (or climb) steps. So multi-level homes need either separate units or manual relocation - it remaps every time, relocation is only a problem if you want to automate a schedule. Minor problems: light furniture on wheels may move & confuse the mapping of a room. Thin or slippery rugs bunch up & trap the unit, as will multiple power cards. Occasionally, it will go too far on a step or ledge & think it's trapped on a cliff (lol), but does send a message to the phone app.

It set up fairly easy. We hooked it up and let it go the first night. My husband swept the floor first and then would kick the dog hair that came out from the dark places in its way so it would pick it up. He worked as hard as if we would have used the big vacuum. It gets stuck sometimes and it cleans in random patterns. Going from room to room before it’s finished. It’s disorganized so I cannot watch it. The dogs are Watchful of it. It does a good job for the most part. Glad we got it.

The vacuum cleans really well. There are some technical issues on occasions like sometimes getting stuck between chairs and there have been times it would stop working and not go back to the dock. I had to try a few times for the cloud update to work which was frustrating. The cleaning is really good. It picks up a lot. And it goes on my rugs and hard wood floors without any issues. That was my biggest concern. The app makes it easy for scheduling too!
