I am sorry to hear that you are unable to use the Apple Superdrive through the j5create adapter.
In our experience, we have been able to determine that the Apple Superdrive is not compatible with j5create USB adapters and hubs. Additionally, we have found that Apple advises against using USB hubs to connect the Apple Superdrive to Apple Mac computers. Apples states the following, "Plug in the SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port. Don't use a USB hub." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201788

At this point third-party items don't work -- only APPLE.

This mini dock has a very close tolerance and having a case will prevent it from fully plugging into the ports. The feedback is appreciated, and I’m sorry that the device did not work for you. I would suggest this mini dock if you have a case on your computer.

EXCEPT that the connection that adds your additional port of your choice is added via a really weak magnet. Meaning that it's difficult to keep together to put into the machine in the first place. And in being difficult to put into your USB C ports, it means that if a fly moves toward it from 12 inches away, one side or the other stops working. I was working today and spent much more time plugging and unplugging the docking station to get it working again, then waiting for the stuff to come back, than I did getting anything done. I wish I could get my money back. I will not be using this anymore as soon as a totally different unit arrives at my house.

Although it is not necessary to have the modular attached to the dock's body, we understand the frustration this may cause where it is constantly losing connectivity and requiring the constant reconnect. If you are using a cover on the computer, this may cause issues and we would recommend removing it in order to make a snug connection. Not worth the money

Great idea, but fails to deliver

Didn't work very well. the magnet connection kept coming apart and it wouldn't stay connected to my MacBook Air. Replaced it with a dongle device that works much better.
