That’s correct if you have a gigabit switch or router in your laptop or computer does not have a gigabit connection then you’ll need this. If you need to connect something to an ethernet cord that doesn't have an ethernet port - this would be the tool for the job

Buy this if you want network adapter on your pc

This product solved my problem and I was able to connect to two different networks through just USB plug and play adapter, no need to by PCI based network adapter. Perfect for IT professional or someone who doesn't have Ethernet port on their network.

Works great just plug and play no drivers or setup needed. All aluminum build very study. Quality product. Just know that you need to plug into a USB 3.0 port to get gigabit speeds. It is backward compatible with USB 2.0 but you will only get 100 LAN speed.

It was fairly easy to install but it was actually slower than the oem card so I bought a pcie card instead.

So far so good as we have not had the orange screen of death appear as long as his switch is docked and connected via Ethernet.
