Scar the grands
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I plan to play this for the grands to scare the heck out of them. It’s still one of the scariest ocean movies after all these years. And it’s also a geat movie about male bonding.

Timeless Classic Revisited
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this is how you do 4K remasters, this is how you do the DVD release in general... I remember buying a DVD and it being loaded with special features and content that brought in my understanding of the film and provided the opportunity to know so much more about something I very much enjoyed and loved... I remember what it was like when Blu-ray started coming out and all the sudden everything didn't have this content, It was few and far between!! Jaws does not suffer from this, jaws doubles down! Universal goes to Great lengths to show you exactly how they went about working this 4K remaster and giving you a glimpse behind the curtain. The movie speaks for itself, the soundtrack and the filmography are outstanding and have been since the movie's creation however something I've begun to notice is films mastered in 4K from original millimeter film really do look feel and sound like completely different films. I've watched Jaws countless times from VHS DVD and Blu-ray and the jump that this 4K takes is outstanding, it blows the other medium clear out of the water for me. Having a set up able to capitalize on everything that they've done with this disc just makes this experience of watching outstanding.

The best shark doo doo
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know it is controversial to say, but Jaws may be one of the best shark movies ever made, dare I say second best after Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre (note: do NOT watch Sharkansas.) In all seriousness the best shark movie ever is Quint’s story about the sinking of the Indianapolis. Robert Shaw makes it absolutely riveting and terrifying. So if there are any issues with the film it is two things the first is that at times the music is so jaunty it feels like it’d fit better in The Goonies. The other thing is it could use more Quint. Shaw owns every frame he is in, it is one of the most captivating performances in cinema. It holds up perfectly 45 years later. It is a real shame Shaw died three years later as most actors would love to have a role with Quint’s staying power and he never even had a chance to get a hint of his legacy. The 4K transfer does what it can but it can only do so much with all the daylight scenes and murky water. The night and underwater scene do really shine. It is still the best looking version I’ve seen. Jaws is about as perfect as films come, especially the back half which is the most engaging three dudes on a boat have ever been. The disc has some great special features and the included booklet has some great photos and information. The lenticular packaging looks super sharp.

JAWS 4K REVIEW
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could hardly wait to see Jaws in 4K! I was not disappointed! This is by far the most pristine version I’ve ever seen! I have seen Jaws in every format released to date and the 4K version was definitely worth the wait. The movie keeps the cinematic viewing feel to it and I thought as I was watching it how lucky I was to view it as it had been intended to be seen in pristine condition as if seeing it for the first time. The details and colors pop, it was exciting to discover new things I have never seen before! You see the stamp of the brand of fishing pole Quint uses to hook the shark in great detail along with the fingerprints on the fishing pole handle and the fishing line. The “unofficial” falling star scenes are absolutely stunning in their clarity and stand out. I saw the shark bites in the Orca for the first time ever. The coat that the Mayor wears is pristine in detail. The labels on the bottles of alcohol are legible as are the details of the swimmers swimsuits. I could go on and on about my discoveries in this 4K version. Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg have done an amazing job of restoring Jaws for this presentation in 4K! This is an absolute must have for your collection and a must see!

gr8 transfer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original summer blockbuster, Steven Spielberg's JAWS quickly became my favorite film growing up, having devoured it on VHS and on ABC's Sunday Night Movie presentation (the one with the added footage) so many times I could recite dialogue before I was out of grade school. Over the years I've been able to see it on the big screen (thanks to a visit with Lukas on Martha's Vineyard back in `96 or so), but despite that - and having reviewed numerous laserdisc and DVD releases over the years - only now with Universal's Blu-Ray edition do I feel like I've really, completely seen "Jaws." This is a spectacular HD presentation on every level and is sure to thrill fans of this classic 1975 screen adaptation of Peter Benchley's bestseller. There's not much I can say about the movie that hasn't been written or documented - from behind-the-scenes books to countless documentaries - since the film's 1975 release date. Spielberg's miraculous direction took advantage of every difficult production situation to create an all-time film masterwork that's always been as satisfying for its unforgettable characterizations, surprising humor and memorable atmosphere as it is a white-knuckle thriller about a great white marauding swimmers off the shores of Amity Island.

The Best Presentation of JAWS Yet... Almost
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic has finally received the 4K treatment it so greatly deserves. For Universal's 100th anniversary, a new negative was created and released on blu-ray. My assumption is that the 4K transfer used this new negative to make this latest edition. The colors are crisp, the grain is present (as it should be), and the richness of the image has never looked better in a digital presentation. JAWS has never looked this good on a home video format. Think of this comparison: when the 35mm prints were struck in 1975 and run through the projector for the first time. That's how good this looks. I'd say that this release is near perfect except for the new 5.1 stereo mix for the audio. This was redone at some point after the year 2000 and the old mono track was replaced, which I think is far superior because original foley and sound effects were used. Gunshots, thuds, and loud sounds are replaced now by more modern sound effects. Not a big fan of that, but it's a nitpick at best. Extras are carried over from previous releases, including Laurent Bouzereau's excellent doc on the making of the film. Plus, the new steelbook packaging makes this essential for any home video format fanatic.
