Feature rich. Robust I/O. Wonderful A/V add.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right out of the box, I had some positive thoughts about this unit. It has that weight to it. Not that it is heavy, but that feels good in the hand, well-built feel, weight. Beyond that, I really like the design. Black. Clean. Minimalistic. Some might say plain. Simple. For me, just about perfect (I really would have preferred not to have the volume dial “11” humor). Looking deeper, it’s more of the same. I really appreciate the robust input and output options. Given this is the centerpiece of my home theater, connected to my computer and more or less where I am consuming most of my media, having it all centralized is really what I was looking for. Phono, Analog, HDMI (would have loved all 6 being 2.1), eARC, Optical, Streaming, Speakers, etc…are all there. Further, the connections all seem high quality. Oddly, or perhaps this is norm these days, the one thing not included here is an AM/FM tuner. Given all of the streaming options, maybe that is the thinking here? I mean, for me, I don’t “really” use a tuner, but I would like it there. I can not imagine it is a high cost? It just seems an odd omission and something to note. The setup for me was not that bad but did require a bit of time. You will need two separate apps (why not one?), JBL Premium Audio as well as EZ EQ. While I don’t think they are the most intuitive apps, they do get the job done. I do absolutely think you should spend the time with them and dial in everything to your liking. Both on the sound end, as well as getting everything balanced correctly. It really will help you get the most of this unit and your system as a whole. Take the time. As for performance, I am very pleased. This is all paired with a 7.1 speaker system that, while I really get after with some music, is mainly put together for me to enjoy movies. That said, I think the music sound quality is quite good. It definitely has power behind it. Beyond that though, everything was accurate, with clean low end, nice mids, and crips but not piercing highs. Vocals came to life. I will say the sound was perhaps a little more neutral, and didn’t have a warmth to it, which, I know is subjective, and hard to get across or explain, but just something I felt and wanted to note. Movie wise? I could not be happier. Everything simply sounded (and looked) great. Every genre, style, source. Everything. Crisp. Clear. Clean. Responsive. Accurate. Powerful. As a whole, this system has delivered the best home movie viewing experiences I have had to date, all due to the sound. There was a whole new level of immersion, texture, and life to the films. The clarity, amount, and presence of sound really made a difference for me. I was both a little surprised, as well as very happy. In the end, I really like this unit and think for all it offers it is a very good value. While I really don’t understand the lack of tuner, the need for two apps, and do not love the remote, this receiver does everything else right for me. It looks good, is well-built, has great connectivity, performs very well, and has brought movies more to life and enhanced that experience for me.

AWESOME!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The JBL MA710 is a sleek, clean-looking A/V receiver with bold knobs and an easy to see display. As good as it looks, it sounds even better! This is a 7.2 channel receiver with 110 watts/channel (at 8ohms) so it provides plenty of power for a crisp/clear sound. It can also be used as a 5.1 receiver reserving the other two channels for "party zone" - sound in another room. It sounds great at low-volume, and has enough "oomph" when you want it. The unit has six HDMI inputs - 3 for 8k, and 3 for 4k - as well as an ARC HDMI output. It also has inputs for ethernet, USB, phono, and outputs for two subwoofers. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding for realistic cinema sound. Setting the unit up was easy using the menu (easiest when you view on your TV). As a class D amplifier, it uses less energy and produces more power out of that energy, while operating cooler. At just a little over 4" tall, it takes up less space as well! After making all of my connections (including 2 JBL260F speakers) I really enjoyed the EZ EQ set up app. Simply open the app and it identifies your system and knows which speakers are connected. Using my IPhone's microphone (Android requires a separate mic) I simply walked around the room while the app analyzed the sound from each set of speakers. It then creates a graph showing what the app "heard" and what it recommends. Push "enable" and the sound characteristics are changed. You can do this for each set of speakers and afterwards compare the difference. I was surprised to discover there wasn't an FM tuner but with so many options for streaming, I understand why. There is also as free JBL Premium Audio app that allows you to select your streaming device including internet free radio and your phone can be used as your remote. With built-in Wifi, Bluetooth, Google Cast, and Apple Airplay, it's easy to choose your streaming choice. I set up this system to replace a 5.1 system that was about 8 years old and what an improvement! The sound is incredible, the bass really booms, and watching a movie is almost like being in the theatre. I'm not an audiophile who can describe all of the frequencies and why something sounds good. I just know that the JBL MA710 is an absolutely incredible A/V receiver that looks great and sounds even better.

Not a simple setup
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returned, had informed I was interested in a 2 channel and was turned onto this but no.... Absolutely run away the setup is horrendous, which a lot of people articulate. I'm not a tinkerer and don't have time for all the setup.

All the features in the world
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for an A/V receiver that checks a bunch of boxes and have had a hard time finding one that offers great amplification, multiple inputs, and high tech network streaming. This receiver almost checks all those boxes and I'm very happy with it. The build quality alone is great. There disks work great and flow effortlessly. The glass front makes it look very high quality and looks great in you're entertainment space. The number of inputs it's amazing, you can run 7.2 or if this unit with Atmos height speakers as well. It has a plethora of inputs, ranging from 6 HDMI inputs, 8k support, analog audio, phono input, and a range of network and Bluetooth inputs. The flexibility of this system offers almost everything you could need from a unit. The setup unfortunately was not a great experience. You need to use an app to set up your device and I had a lot of problems getting the device to connect to my phone and had to turn off the device several time to get it working. My unit had to I stall a huge update right out of the box so I'm assuming that is what was causing all the issues. None the less it was by far an easy setup process. The network audio feature for Chromecast and airplay was one thing I was looking forward to. Not many amplifiers support this feature and even fewer with multiple outputs. Airplay works flawlessly, better than any airplay device I've used. Chromecast on the other hand is unusable on my device. Chromecast appears to think the device is connected, but after many unpairings and resets, I've yet to be able to connect and play music via Chromecast to this receiver. This was my biggest disappointment. The sound quality being pushed by this unit is great. It has plenty of power to push to my system and has never seemed to drop. Overall I think this is a great centerpiece to your home theater set up.

Wonderfully Performing and Versatile A/V Receiver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For many years a solid A/V receiver was the core of my entertainment system. I had a wonderful Onkyo that lasted me as a teen until the HD age. I then moved on to a Yamaha that never quite wowed me. I used it for years but eventually I just moved onto sound bars as my job began requiring me to move every year or so and it was just easier. But I always longed to once again have a state of the art A/V unit with quality speakers to try and get back to more of a true theatrical experience when I watch a movie. I recently acquired an amazing set of JBL Stage2 260F Loudspeakers and once paired with this unit, the experience is mind-blowing. Set up was quick and easy. I connected my WiFi network to my receiver while I installed the accompanying app on my phone. Pairing was easy and though the app isn’t a necessity for use, I wanted to see what it offered. The music selection thru the app was ok overall but I did enjoy the wide range of classical options. It also can help with optimizing your speaker set up, once I heard it start playing I never felt the need to even mess with anything else. In my current place I will just be using my Samsung 70” 4k TV and the previously mentioned JBL loudspeakers and my PS5. I am really excited however once I move back to my house, and where I will live out the rest of my days, to combine this unit with my projector and take full advantage of the surround sound along with my subwoofers. As fantastic as it sounds now, I can only imagine how absolutely incredible it will be once fully utilizing the 7.2 Dolby Atmos full surround sound. It is also very pleasing aesthetically , the unit is very clean looking up front and has every port and hookup I could ask for. Once everything was set up and I hit play on that first movie, the magic really started to happen. The sound is so much more clear and crisp than my previous Yamaha unit. I could often detect the slightest hiss in the background with that device. My girlfriend could never hear it and thought I may be hearing things but it is not present at all with this set up. Everything sounds great. The video looks amazing and I like that this system has room to grow with 8k compatibility. Even at high volumes the audio is very clear, clean and crisp. Even just watching YouTube videos of animals barking or howling gets a bigger reaction from our dog! The first movie we watched beginning to end was Oppenheimer and it was an absolutely stunning experience. It really gave that true theatrical experience that I was looking for. All in all I am happy to have returned to the A/V Receiver style set up instead of a sound bar and I am extremely pleased with the quality and versatility of MA 710. I would absolutely recommend it a friend.

Simple Yet Robust
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I just received my JBL MA710 r07.2 Channel 8K Receiver a little over a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. From the little bit of research that I could do and find on this receiver, this is more of a budget type receiver for those wanting to get into setting up and home theater without breaking the bank. And thats where this amazingly built JBL MA710 receiver comes in. UNBOXING: * JBL. MA710 7.2 8K Receiver * Quick-Start Guide * Remote Control w/ 2 AA Batteries * 1 Antenna for Bluetooth * 2 Antennas for Wi-Fi * Power Cord So after unboxing everything I unplugged my other receiver, which this JBL will be replacing and connected my banana plugs to the back of this JBL MA710 receiver. Using the included HDMI ports on the back, I connected my Samsung 65” TV, my Apple TV, and my Playstation 5 to the back of it. Once I got everything plugged in I plugged the power cord into the socket and pressed the power button. And nothing happened. At first I was confused as to why it wasn’t working, but then I quickly remembered that this AV receiver has another power button switch on the back panel. Once I press that button on, and pressed the power button on the front panel everything lit up and I was ready to go. First off the display panel is way brighter and larger than the display panel of my other receiver that it’s replacing. That’s the first thing that I noticed about it. Now I will say that I’m not particularly stoked about the remote. I understand making things simple and minimal, and though it’s not a dealbreaker, I don’t really care for how thin and small the remote is. Wish it had a little more heft to it. Again it’s not a dealbreaker as the remote contains all of the functions that you will need to properly run this receiver with no issues. Going through the different menus was easy and actually looked way better than my other receiver. Setup was easy, just use the remote to go through the menu settings and tweak everything to your liking and you’re good. The speakers that I connected to the back of this receiver are my JBL Stage2 260F Floor Standing speakers that I recently received as well. They sound amazing with this receiver, in addition to the other speakers that are included in my surround sound setup. Features I love about this receiver compared to my old receiver is the fact that this receiver has: * Dolby Atmos * Bluetooth * Wired Ethernet port * Wi-Fi * 2 apps (JBL app & EZSetEQ app) Using the apps, will assist in getting you up and running in no time. The JBL app allows your receiver to be recognized and allows you to tweak a few settings remotely and also update the firmware of the receiver. The EZSet EQ app will allow you to calibrate the best possible sound setup. I recommend this receiver for anyone on the market looking for a simple yet robust system without all the fuss of extra buttons and settings that to be honest, aren’t necessary to have. This is an amazing receiver, and I’ve had fun with it so far.

Never by first edition items
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thought this would crush my almost 10 year old Yamaha receiver. Not even close to the same quality of my old unit. Sound was flat and very thin to my ears. Buggy software. Has Chromecast built in. It would give its little chiming noise to say it was connected, then drop the connection in about 15 seconds. Nothing tried would resolve that. No am fm ability (that was my fault for not noticing). I have had other JBL products I liked, just not this JBL
