The JLab EPIC Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) Wireless Headphones are the newest in the line of headphones from JLab.
Design & Packaging:
The form factor for these wireless Bluetooth headphones are like JLab’s existing in-ear headphones, this one is an earbud that has a lanyard. This headphone design includes magnetic earbuds that help keep it in place when not in use, to the lanyard that goes around your neck, which houses controls and electronics on the right and a weigh balance (probably battery) on the other side. These headphones are IPX 54 rated, which means they are only sweat proof. They have a reasonably long playback time. The materials are top-notch, what comes with the box is nothing short of amazing for the price. The earbuds have these ‘duck feet’ which they called “Cush” on their packaging. Its best at what it does in keeping your earbuds in place while you work out or runabout. I was impressed by the included accessories in such a well packaged and well-rounded accessories set. So many other headphone manufacturers do not provide a travel case/bag or USB cable for aux-audio input. I had no issues with switching to the cloud foam tips (ear tips) though they can get a bit of getting used to, however, eventually went back to the mediums that the headphones come with.
Sound Quality:
The sound quality on these JLab EPIC ANC earbuds is a tad bit bright for my needs but there is plenty of bass low end, so I’d say quite well balanced at lower to mid-range volumes. Depending on what you are listening to, it can get very loud. I found myself listening to at 30-50% or so on my volume setting, any higher and it was unbearably bright on the treble side and extremely loud.
The ANC is amazing on these headphones, I am seriously impressed. Turning it on requires you to hold it down for a few seconds (the button is not super responsive), but once up, it’s easy to switch between the 3-modes of ANC. The first is an ambient mode (Be Aware) which allows you to hear the nearby sounds - amplifies the sound around you by the microphone pickup, the Low and High ANC is quite effective. The ANC even seems to work when on a phone call - as it removed the noise of my treadmill I was walking on. The headphones give you a soft dual beep (beep-beep) to identify between low ANC and high ANC, the other beeps are single beeps between the low and ambient.
Use:
When you first turn it on, the device says “Hello” to indicate it is powered on. The voice prompts will tell you about your pairing status as well as your battery status as well as say “goodbye” when turned off. The pairing process is rather easy, no different from any other Bluetooth device I have been using, but what I found funny was that after pairing the device, my phone lists this paired Bluetooth device as “Test”, and not as identified “JLab EPIC ANC” when I was in discovery mode. Sounds like the firmware needs an update. Just to test it, I tried pairing it with another phone, and it did the same thing, so its definitely a programing issue.
Comfort:
The headphones are not the most comfortable, but then again I am not a big fan of earbuds for longer use. Regardless, I did try to get used to it after a few hours of wearing it. It’s not the world’s most comfortable pair of earbuds, even with the cloud foam tips, but for working out or short hours of use, its plenty comfortable. I can’t see myself wearing these for 8 hours a day. They hold up rather well when working out. So for an hour or so, it’s perfect for that use. I’ll have to see if I can get used to wearing it longer. I’ll admit the “cush” helps keep the earbuds in place, unlike a lot of other earbuds I’ve used in the past, this one stays put when working out.
Misc:
A unique feature of this headphone is the fact that these headphones do come with an airline adaptor for use on airplanes. Its a MicroUSB to Aux input, so technically one can use it on a phone aux input. I found it interesting that you do not have to power on the device to use the aux input and it is capable of working without the headphones being turned on.
I also tried using the JLab Audio Burn-in app on the android, trying to see if that helped the audio quality. After about 2.5 hours of it running, I could not tell if it actually made a difference on certain songs as the treble was still ‘bright’, but it did mellow out the mids and bass. It’s very well known that headphones and speakers need break-in time, and the app helps with that process.
Pros:
Lightweight, great working out - does not fall off the ears
Noise Canceling works amazingly well.
Cons:
A bit uncomfortable needs getting used to the earbuds
Needs an update to remove ‘test’ as the pairing name.

Pros: Great price, decent active noise cancelling, secure fit
Cons: Use of collar to connect earbuds
I was recently sent JLab Audio's EpicANC earbuds. I had read their press release prior to their being released and was interested in JLab's implementation of active anc(active noise cancelling). I am also interested in how these will work in a home office environment since I am currently at home because of the covid19 pandemic.
Accessories:
The EpicANC came with the tip sizes, xsmall, small, medium, and large tips. There is also a pair of cloud tips and two cush fins(that were already installed). Also included is a soft travel case, aux adaptor, and micro usb charging cable.
Features:
The headphones boast a total of 14 hours of Bluetooth 5 and ANC playtime, 25 hours of bluetooth playtime, and 50 hours of active noise cancelling playtime. They are rated at IP54 sweatproof, so they could be used at the gym. For active noise cancelling, they have a low setting and a high setting. Also, if you need to be more conscious of your surroundings, their Be Aware setting allows you to hear the outside world when needed. These also come with a handy aux to micro usb cable so these can be used on flights. The JLab symbol of each earbud is magnetic, so they can stick together magnetically when not being used or so they don't bounce around when walking.
Build\Fit:
The EpicANC are made of a durable\tough plastic, utilizing an angled nozzle for the tips. They have a cush fin on each earbud which helps the buds stay in place. I found that the large ear tips worked best for me, but everyone's ears are different. Once in your ear, moving them back and fourth helps the cush fins find their place. A proper fit helps for better bass response. I found that they stayed in my ears well enough but wish that they would allow for deeper insertion for better isolation. The collar that holds everything together is made of very pliable rubber. The earbuds are pretty comfortable, I was able to wear them for hours(listening at safe volume) and did not find them fatiguing. Because the EpicANC utilize bluetooth 5, I experienced no dropouts or connectivity problems.
Controls:
Built into the right side of the EpicANC's collar are the controls. They are raised\rubberized and after using them for a bit, fairly easy to tell by feel which button is which. The controls are well spaced and not pushed too close together. There are the volume up and down buttons, which also serve to skip and reverse if you press and hold them for 2 seconds. The center button does several things, it powers on/off the earbuds, plays/pauses/answers/hangs up calls, rejects incoming calls, activates siri/google, and deals with bluetooth pairing. The ANC button is on the side of the main controls, and can be turned on\off and you can also cycle through the three settings(marked by muted beeps) of low anc/high anc/Be Aware.
Sound:
I listened to several different genres of music when reviewing these headphones on my LG G8 ThinQ. I found that the instruments were well separated, the highs were fairly crisp, but the midrange was just ok. I think the midrange could be worked on in the next iteration. The EpicANC sound signature differs between the ANC (active noise cancelling) chosen, the low setting seems to have more bass while high anc seems to sound thinner to me with reduced midrange\bass. I actually thought that the low ANC setting sounded the best, although quite bass heavy.
ANC:
The ANC was better than I expected, I found that even at the low setting that they blocked out the hum of the air conditioning or my kids trying to talk to me. I actually liked the low setting the best, but of course everyone is different. I used these at my home office and while writing my review here and found these did a good job of blocking out constant noise and even people talking.
Calls:
I used these on some conference calls and the people I was talking to said I sounded great and that they could not tell I was on earbuds. They seemed to block out a lot of the background noise also.
Overall, I would recommend the EpicANC to someone looking for an affordable ANC solution that does not carry the price of its competitors. It works great in noisy environments and works well on conference calls and Zoom meetings. At $79, these are a great deal and I think most will be happy with them. My only real con is the use of the collar, which I have never really liked on earbud\headphones.

I've had my Epic earphones for a week and the best part is these are some functional, fun, and crisp for voice tuned earphones.
My biggest piece of enjoyment behind the Epics is the four different microphones that have allowed me to leave these on after a workout to take a work phone call. Working from home has changed a bit lately and I get calls during all sorts of activities but I used to have to switch from my old JLABS to handset mode.
JLAB definitely thought about the voice quality for taking calls on the EPICS.
Setup was quite simple with a short charge after unboxing, holding the JLAB button down, pairing with bluetooth and off I went on my first jog with them.
My downside for headphones like this is always the same. You must be okay with the wire and the rubber neck component behind your neck. Personally it doesn't bother me and since I sweat quite a bit, sometimes earbuds slip out into the grass. With these if they slip out they'll magnetize to each other around your neck so that's also cool.
The Epics are surely a set of earbuds that you'll be able to put through a workout and not flinch if you give them a small bump. They also come with extra eartips and a nice bag as you'll see pictured here.
Now go outside and enjoy this summer with these EPIC earbuds. I'm recently listening to a lot of EDM music and Country music which are polar ends in style but one has awesome bass and electronic synths and the other has acoustics and an emphasis on drums. Both really sound great so any style of music will work with these!

I enjoy listening to classical, patriotic, and Christian music. I needed something so no one else was forced to listen to my music selections. The JLab-Epic ANC Earbuds are exactly what I needed. The sound is fantastic, and I don't have to worry about losing one of the ear buds because it fell from my ear. I did have some trouble figuring out which adapter to use. I tried all of them, and settled on the one that was originally installed on the ear buds.

It is nice to have longer battery life for wireless earbuds. It is one of the reasons for this purchase. I listen to epubs and music. I do not use noise canceling.
My only problem is the Bluetooth breaking up. I think this might be to multiple devices trying to pair. I haven't troubleshot this problem.
They have a comfortable fit.

This is one of the best earbud headset I've had in a while. I am a landscaper and it those not fall out while working. The sound is good and clear with nice bass line. I have payed more for headset that not this good. 4 Star only because it would be good if there was a way to pin the earpiece to the headset.....Only complaint!

The first pair I received was defective and I exchanged it for a new pair that works great. Im happy with the earbuds, mine have multipoint but it is not advertised and JLabs said they do not offer multipoint in an email response from tech support. Well mine do and I can connect my phone and imac at the same time, I can listen to sound from the imac and take a phone call from my iphone as it comes in. Multipoint did not work with the initial pairing of 2 devices, it was the next day at work that I was able to answer a call from my phone and pause the music on my imac with the click of the power button. I like the sound from the unit and calls are always clear on both ends, I use these at work where Im constantly using these for calls and listening to music. My only complaint is the wings could be better, they tend to need readjusting more than I'd like too.

Great noise cancellation in an innovative style

I’m always on the hunt for another pair of wireless earbuds/headphones that will finally strike the perfect balance between sound quality, comfort and convenience. I was excited to try the new JLab Epic ANC Wireless Earbuds, but maybe not for the reasons that most people cite. I’ll touch on the usual items: sound quality, comfort, usability and noise cancellation, but most reviews focus on these, so I’m going to propose that these particular earbuds belong on your short list for other reasons.
I think JLab has been doing an excellent job of being the value leader. This is my fourth set of JLab earbuds/headphones, and I’m always struck by how much value they provide for the price. Over the last few years, prices for earbuds and headphones have skyrocketed. Before the arrival of bluetooth, spending $79 got you a very good set of wired earbuds, but now that price point is in the “budget” category. The Epic earbuds provide a great set of features without breaking the bank.
Value-priced earbuds rarely come with active noise cancellation. For comparison, I also own the Bose NC700 over-ear headphones ($400) and just recently bought Sony’s newest ANC earbuds ($200). Surprisingly, the quality of JLab’s ANC implementation in these earbuds puts them solidly between the other two! No earbud will be able to block out 100% of the ambient noise, but the Epics really do a remarkable job. There are 3 ANC settings: low, high and “be aware”. Since just having something in your ear will block out some amount of sound, turning off active noise cancellation doesn’t allow you to clearly hear everything. So, the “be aware” mode actually uses microphones to bring the outside sounds into your ears. This is a great feature, especially at this price point, and it works very well. I did discover one oddity with it, however. If you are in “be aware” mode and your finger hits the microphone on the left earbud, it will produce a slight squeal, similar to feedback. It’s not a big deal, but it surprised me when it happened.
If you’re considering these earbuds, you really have to think about the style. These are “neckband” earbuds, which means that the controls and batteries are in the neckband. These were pretty popular a few years ago, but lately have been upstaged by true wireless (TWS) earbuds. Sure, TWS earbuds are great because they have absolutely no wires, but that also means that all the circuitry as well as the batteries must be packed into the earbud itself. Generally, that results in larger earbuds that can sometimes protrude from the ear too much. My new Sony earbuds are pretty comfortable, but they often feel like they’re ready to fall out. Going with the neckband style eliminates this concern, allowing for much smaller earbuds that fit well and are much lighter weight, making them more comfortable, in my opinion. Another advantage to this style is that the wires for each earbud are not directly connected to each other. That means that turning your head will not cause one or the other earbud to be pulled out of your ear. Lastly, it is convenient to be able to take out the earbuds and leave them hanging on your chest. JLab made the earbuds magnetic so that they’ll stick together rather than flopping around when they’re not in your ears.
Another feature that is quite innovative is the inclusion of an additional cable that allows you to convert from wireless to wired earbuds. I haven’t seen this feature on any other bluetooth earbuds, and of course it probably isn’t possible with any other style, but it’s a real bonus here. If your battery dies, or if you’re on a plane and can’t use bluetooth, plug in the included cable and plug the other end into a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and you’re good to go! This is a great feature that makes these earbuds much more versatile.
If you have any other JLab earbuds, you’ll be familiar with the sound signature. It may not compete with some of the higher-priced earbuds, but it is quite good, especially for the price. Bass is strong, if a little muddy, and the mids are clean, but the highs are a bit lacking. The soundstage is a little small, but not bad, but the overall tonal quality is a little flat. By no means would I say it’s not good, you just won’t hear the separation and sharp highs that you might on a pair that cost twice as much, but once again, the value here is phenomenal and the sound is excellent for the price.
JLab doesn’t skimp on what’s in the box either. You get a full complement of rubber eartips in 3 sizes, plus a pair of cloud foam tips, which I think make the bass sound cleaner. You also get a pair of cush fins, which are supposed to help these stay in your ears. I really didn’t see a need for them in my ears, and I thought I got a better fit without them. You also get a charging cable and the 3.5mm aux cable, and a really nice travel bag to keep everything in. In all, it’s a great package that feels much more premium than what you paid.
As I said at the beginning, I think that JLab is the value leader. They have a wide range of earbuds at all price points, and all of them perform well above their price tag. Their Rewind Retro headphones are simply the best value in all of wireless headphones and a no-brainer at $20. The Epic earbuds continue that tradition, providing great value, comfort and battery life, with very good sound for a price that is affordable.

Noise cancellation is disappointing. It has multiple levels and higher levels seems to add a static noise rather than cancel outside noise.

When it comes to wireless earbuds I generally prefer something that rests around your neck. To me, it makes it much easier to just have one earbud hanging out when needing to talk to someone instead of removing it and end up misplacing it somewhere else. For this very reason along with active noise cancellation, the Epic wireless earbuds caught my attention. They actually arrived just in time for me to take them with me to my Florida road trip.
Sound Quality: I’ve been spoiled by the sound quality from higher-end wireless earbuds that cost about 3-5x times more than what the Epic ANC retail for. Now I don’t expect the Epic to blow me out of the water but the sound that it outputs it’s not bad. The best way to summarize is that they’re above average and for the price range they sound good enough for what they retail for. It would be easier for me to tell you what I found lacking which was a crispier treble sound and more depth needed on the stereo effect. The strong points are the mids along with a decent amount of bass output that brings justice to bass-heavy songs. Overall they sound good for all types of music genres from Hip-Hop, EDM, and alternative rock. I will say for the price I paid for them I was left satisfied with the sound quality coming out of the Epic ANC earbuds. It’s a good sound but you’re left wanting a little bit more.
ANC:
To be honest I don’t have much experience when it comes to active noise cancellation headphones. For my Florida road trip, it sure came in handy when your listening experience is accompanied by road noise and my 8yr old daughter watching YouTube on blast on her tablet. You have 2 sets of noise cancelation default one blocks as much noise as it can and the other it’s like a mid-level option. If you need to hear your surroundings the last option allows all noise to come in. Handy when someone needs to talk to you and you don’t have to remove your headphones. The key for it to be effective is a good seal with your ear. JLAB did provide 3 different tips sizes to find one that seals in properly with your ear. With a good seal, the noise cancellation did manage to almost block out all noise, not 100% but just enough to allow me to enjoy my content without any distractions.
Features.
Battery life is get’s 2 thumbs up from me. What you get is up to 25hrs audio playback without ANC enabled and up to 14hrs if ANC is enabled. Real-world life is right around 20hrs without ANC and 10hrs with it. My volume level was usually around 60-70%. Another feature is the ability to use them as wired earbuds. Very handy when you don’t have access to a charger and still want to jam out. For working out or caught in a sudden downpour you do have IP54 Dust and Sweatproof protection. Light rain and intense workout shouldn’t be a problem. JLAB also provided a carrying pouch made out of this soft vinyl material that can store the earbuds along with the charging cable and the 3.5mm wired cable for extra protection from the elements. Just the earbuds alone are worth the price of admission the add on extras just the icing on the cake on this superb value package. If anything micro USB charging instead of Type C would be the sour point of this package.
Overall:
JLab has come out with a solid affordable noise-canceling earbuds that won’t break the bank or have you racing back to the store to return them. They sound good and comfortable to use during those long road trips or working out at the gym. ANC performs well in noisy environments. If you’re in the market for some wireless earbuds with ANC without being scared away from the price the JLAB Epic should be on top of your list. They performed well on all aspects: Sound, Battery Life, and Noise-Canceling and last price.

I needed Noise Cancelling and bought these on sale. I tested them side-by-side with 2 different Sony models. These reduced more noise, and seemed to be easier to use. Fit very secure and comfortable. Handy audio cord for when Bluetooth is not needed.
