NO customer support if out of warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased refrigerator 7 years ago, so obviously out of warranty. Interior lights stopped working so called technician to replace left door switch. Should have been a 10 minute fix using the $23 replacement part. However, the refrigerator was manufactured in a defective manner when the door foam was oversprayed, thus "locking" the old wiring harness in place. Tech couldn't remove switch without breaking it. Tech says this can't be repaired. So - no interior lights and ice dispenser won't work. Called "customer service" and was told they couldn't do anything because refrigerator is out of service. I asked repeatedly and they would not let me speak with a Supervisor or Manager. I kept being told "There is nothing we can do for you" (boy, was THAT the truth!) They DID offer to transfer me to someone in parts (I already have the part) or to someone who would sell me another refrigerator. THINK TWICE before buying a Kitchenaid appliance that will last a few years and then start breaking down. And DO NOT expect to receive any kind of "customer support" from KitchenAid/Whirlpool. They will NOT stand behind their products.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this fridge for almost five years now. It has been one problem after another. I have replaced the door gaskets twice, one of the electrical components in the left drawer stopped working, the ice dispenser hardly ever works correctly, I have had to replace the freezer gasket, and now I need to do it again. I was doing a deep clean in my fridge and noticed a huge puddle of water underneath the 2 drawers which took an entire roll of paper towels. I'm done with this fridge...

This model of refrigerator is a total disaster!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an absolutely horrible refrigerator! It has continual problems. I have had 4 service calls in the last 18 months with various things failing. I have yet another call open as the freezer is not working properly. In order to save my meat, I had to rush out and buy a second chest freezer. The factory service technicians have repeatedly told me this 5 drawer refrigerator has constant problems. They say that it is jusr this 5 drawer/door model that is prone to problems. The three and for door/drawer units are supposed to be fine. The techinians say the combination of low voltage and 110V parts in the unit cause all sorts of failures. We are at the point of looking for a new refrigerator as this is totally unreliable. What a waste of $4,000+! Save your money and DON'T BUY THIS MODEL REFRIGERATOR!

Fail Not an Aid
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Avoid KitchenAid refrigerators, and especially the above model at all costs. Within a year the freezer lights and the control board for the temperature controlled drawer went out. Took about 6 months to get the right parts & fix it through their authorized service provider. The fridge's compressor & lights randomly turn off, and had to do a power reset to get it back working. Finally the fridge's compressor stopped working end of Dec 2023. Compressor was still under warranty, but it took 50 days to get the part & fix it. But after the replacement we find that one of the Control Boards need to be replaced. The quote to replace the Control Boards is $1681 !!! Now i have a $3200 piece of junk. Got about 4 years of use out of it. Its not worth spending that much for a fridge if it is going to fail in 5 years. Better to stick with a Whirlpool or GE which would cost half the amount.

Know what you are buying
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just left Best Buy last night (Feb 1, 2020) to buy another refrigerator to replace this one. We bought it May 14, 2016 and have had 3 service calls - 1 for drain issues (cost was $325), the second the water dispenser would not dispense water at all (cost was $450 for parts and labor we had to wait a week for and the last one couple weeks ago - the lights on the water control panel would not come on and no water plus lights inside refrigerator would shut off and so would the refrigeratgor (cost was $85 for service call). The tech told us that the drawer under the water dispenser has an electrical wire that powers the drawer and also controls the lights and door open alarm and that there were reported issues with this. The refrigerator thinks the door is open and shuts down - look at this on the web - others have reported the same issue - design flaw. He said we could estimate $700 in repairs for this and no guarantees it would not happen again, he recommended not doing it. The only way to get it to work and not shut down was to unplug for a minute and plug it back in, sometimes I did this 3 times a day. We stopped using that drawer all together and only had to reboot the refrigerator couple times. FINALLY, three days ago it started making a loud noise when it kicked on, which was constantly and it sounded like possible ice build up and the fan was crazy loud. Had to close our bedroom door to sleep at night. We did not want to spend any further money on this and just went back to the basic side by side made by GE, no electronics! The salesman at Best Buy also told me of the same issues he had heard on this model we went through - Refrigerator cost us about $3,000 and we spent close to $1000 in repairs for 4 years use, my wife loved the look but everything that glitters is not gold.

Terrible service record
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought 6 years ago. In 6 years I spent another $3000 in repairs in that time frame. Wire harness twice. Drawer computer board replaced twice. Main Power board replaced twice along with whole ice machine. Door sensors were also replaced. This fridge has a terrible repair history and is well know for its lack of reliability. Read reviews careful, because when new and working it’s a fairly nice and well organized refrigerator. Ice is lacking but can be on most refrigerators. It’s a whirlpool with one of the worst repair records in the industry, not my words but simply facts. STAW AWAY!

Big Mistake!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this refrigerator less than 2 years ago and started using it for only about a year. After using it for a few months, the icemaker was not making ice, there were puddles on the freezer door and the cooling unit temperature is not cool enough. I've had the service appointment 15 times since 8/23/21 and they had to replace 4 parts but still had the temperature problem. It is set at 33F but the thermometer reads 50F on average. The serviceman says that my thermometer ( Taylor brand)is wrong but I have tested it with my other refrigerators in the house and I don't have problems with other refrigerators. The last time they serviced the unit was in March and it worked for about 2 months but the temperature issue occurred again. Kitchenaid said it is out of the first-year warranty because they closed the case in March even though the initial problem persisted until today. Their service tech is from Dan and Marc, a third-party contracted company whose goal is not to fix the problem but to book many services as possible. My biggest mistake was to match all Kitchenaid appliances for my new kitchen. I don't make 15 service appointments to anybody's time, I've been extremely cooperative and patient but still left with a broken refrigerator. My mom had the 20 year old Whirpool refrigerator and that refrigerator is still working perfectly and that was the reason I decided to get all KitchenAid appliances for my new kitchen. BIG MISTAKE EVER!

KitchenAid is not the same! Very disappointed!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally do not write reviews but I had to this time! We paid close to $4000 towards this "amazing" appliance and after 1 year and 4 month it got covered in rust and ice making machine stopped working! I called BestBuy - they couldn't help. Then I called KitchenAid - was told that I can order a service call which is $170,the ice maker is not covered under the warranty but they will tell me what's wrong and will advise on the parts that I need to replace. Again, just think of it: the expensive $4000 fridge broke and got rusted in one year and 4 month. We never used the icemaker too much, so it's not due to over usage, it is sitting in a kitchen where it should not have rust. So, we are very very very disappointed in this top named brand and will be happy to share pictures and more details on other social media resources. I think I am not alone in this situation, so others should be aware prior to buying $4000 KitchenAid fridge.

Maybe the worst appliance I've owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this refrigerator a little more than two and a half years ago in late August of 2017. In November of 2019, I started having cooling issues. The freezer stopped cooling and the refrigerated section wasn't cooling enough. The back of the freezer and the left portion of the fridge ceiling were freezing over. The cooling fan was bogging down due to ice formation. As a result the refrigerator started making incessant whirring sounds. Subsequently, a month ago, the ice maker motor literally blew up when I was dispensing ice. Everything in the refrigerator smelled of burning plastic. A caustic smell that still lingers. I bought warranty protection from Best Buy thankfully. Unfortunately they have come out three times since November. The first two times to fix the cooling issue… unsuccessfully. The last time on January 8th, they ordered four parts. The technician told me he needed to order a fan motor, dispenser motor, a board (maybe circuit board?) and a new refrigerator door... the left door that dispenses the water and ice. Because of these issues, I’ve had two, four day stretches of living out of two coolers. Not fun I assure you. I called Best Buy today (01/22/20) and learned that one or two of the parts are on backorder. I have no idea when they might come. I have a tentative repair date of 01/30, but that’s only if all the parts are in. The technician said it could be weeks longer than the 30th. It has been an odyssey for sure. One that I am certainly not through. Don’t misguide yourself. It’s stunning to look at. Reliability is far more important. Without question, I CANNOT recommend this appliance.

Terrible Refrigerator***Do Not Buy***
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although this refrigerator looks great, it is terrible. We bought one in 2020 and here we are in November 2023 and the unit started to malfunction. At first it stopped cooling and the lights would not turn on, we had their repair people come out and they "fixed" it and said it was a wiring issue in the crisper door, within 48 hours of that the unit constantly started tripping the breaker, we had their repair people come out again and after further testing found out that the wiring harness for the entire unit is bad. The tech told us that basically the refrigerator is done and they cannot repair the unit due to the harness being woven into the spray foam inside the unit. Poor design and engineering if parts cannot be easily replaced. So now we have a 300lb brick in our kitchen that cost $4000, buy a better brand and save the headache

Do not Buy This Refrigerator
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Work good for 3 years now is constantly having issues with ice melting in ice bin and not producing enough ice. Geek Squad was ZERO help in fixing, we have now had to other companies look at. it and can't fix it. Pretty much $4K piece of crap now.

Crappy light system doesn’t last
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a nice fridge. But the lights quit working. I’m tired of having to learn how to repair appliances. I had to buy a light kit, EE hubby watched videos. I had to do the work bc it requires littler hands. What a pain. Appliances should last longer without issue. ALSO frost builds up in the freezer which causes concern.

Beautiful fridge, but looks are decieving
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We originally purchased this refrigerator thru Best Buy in AZ. Delivery dates were screwed up, but eventually the installer delivered, assembled and installed at our home. About 6 months later the ice machine stopped working. Initially worked with Geek Squad but they did not help a bit. Eventually they came out to replace the newly installed fridge with another one.....a lot of food went bad. New fridge was installed....about 2 years later the ice machine stopped working, freezer developed frost and climate control malfunctioned. Here we are about 6 years in: left wiring harness replaced, ice machine module replaced, left climate control module replaced and main mcb replaced. This is all OUT of warranty. To this day, fridge stops working and we need to unplug from the receptacle for about 10min for it to continue to work. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELVES THE ANGUISH AND WASTED FOOD AND DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I have receipts for all of the mentioned replacements and am really disappointed in the manufacturing and engineering of this AMERICAN MADE product.
