They feel reassured by the enhanced security it provides to their homes. However, some users have experienced connectivity issues with Bluetooth, inconsistent performance, and short battery life. I bought this lock for my household hoping it would make things more convenient for the 6 people going in and out the front door. It did not. The installation was simple and mechanically it works great with my existing lock. I had a lot of trouble getting my initial phone to pair with the lock. I followed instructions and looked for help online. Like an insane person I just kept repeating the same thing over and over when I couldn't find answers. After more than 10 tries, it finally paired and I had done nothing different. The reason I took this smart lock back was because it didn't make getting into the house any easier, half of the time, if not most, it made things harder. I understood this lock wouldn't auto unlock as you walked up to the door. I was ok with opening up an app and hitting a button, my phone is in my hand when I get out of the car anyway. The frustrating part was that the phone wouldn't connect to the door before I got to the door (I have an iPhone 7+). Most of the time I would find myself standing at the door trying to get a connection. On top of that, I'd often have to restart the app after waiting, which would fix the connectivity problem. This was not ok. It was easy to share a key with friends and family and they all thought it was super cool, but had the same problems. I wasn't trying to be cool, I was trying to get into my house faster and more conveniently. I took this thing back after 10+ days and got a digital passcode lock. Tapping a couple buttons when getting to the door has been much faster and easier.

I installed this on my front door which was really easy about 20 minute set up but when I needed to let someone in the house and I sent them a key it was like the front door had no power and I had just put in brand new batteries. So it worked some of the time. I uninstalled it and returned it and am gonna look else where for a better working option

      Hi WMhartfields,
If you need any assistance with Kwikset locks in the future please give us a call at 1-800-327-5625, we're happy to help! From the sounds of things your door may not have been properly aligned, creating some drag on deadbolt as it opened or closed. This can cause the motor to work harder and can both slow down the time it takes to lock or unlock your door and cause your batteries to drain prematurely.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know.
      Thank you,
      Kwikset kwikset

To Connect or not to connect?

The Kevo Connect is great when you can get it to constantly work.Connection issues are it's only draw back and yet some of the problem has to be with the initiator(phone etc.). Easy to install. Instructions to initially pair your phone with the Kevo Connect should be highlighted as in WiFi on or off and Bluetooth on or off. It would clear up some misconceptions. There is a lot of neighbor WiFi ,Bluetooth, and satellite usage around my home. And so in the mornings or when i don't have a lot of electronics on, is when my Kevo Connect works best. The battery life is better than i expected but no where near as stated. I've replaced them once in approximately 6-7 months.Replaced with the better RAYOVAC battery. Recommend turning confirmation lights off to conserve energy. Oh and if it didn't have Bluetooth the Kevo Connect would be an improvement over regular deadbolt, simply because you can program it to lock automatically. The Kevo Connect is made very sturdy. It is good enough i bought two.

    Great Lock, easy install-bluetooth only

I just had a new Kwikset lock installed on my door. I realized after that the new lock style would require a new electronic auto lock (which this Kevo Convert offers). This lock was very easy to install on my existing (newly installed) deadbolt. It works from the app but is not fast. The 30 second auto-lock is the feature I was most wanting (it will lock you out if you close the door behind you). It works close to the lock only with Bluetooth standard out of the box through the app on your phone. If you want unlimited range to operate/manage the lock from anywhere you will need to upgrade for another $100 and can be done through the Kevo app or through the website. It is an electronic lock so your deadbolt will have to line up smoothly or it won't function right (since my deadbolt was newly installed this was no problem). If you have to jimmy your door a little to get it locked it may not work properly. Quick rundown (you don't need to be a carpenter to install this, however if you have replaced locks before it will help) In the box is the lock, cover, mounting hardware (3 sets depending on your lock) Check compatibility https://www.kwikset.com/kevo/convert/compatibility#compatLocks App directions available or pdf version Remove the inside part of your deadbolt only, leave outside part on (open the door and lock the deadbolt to keep from falling out) Install the correct mount plate on the inside of your door. Install the adapter and lock (w/o cover). Test the lock Program your phone w/ app to operate lock Install the cover. If any of these steps don't work you can start over. To program for different lock manufacturers and to turn on the auto lock you will need to toggle the small switches under the cover. You can also leave the cover unlocked so you don't have to remove the screws to reprogram (otherwise you have to unscrew the cover), however that means anyone can remove the cover and reprogram if they are inside your house. I really like this new lock. I had it installed in under 30 minutes. I have not decided to add the $100 upgrade yet and just use the key or Bluetooth functions. (upgrade links it to WiFi I believe). It also pairs with Kwikset smart locks (which are referred in install instructions). If you don't have a smart lock (Kwikset w/ blue light ring on outside of deadbolt) you can disregard the install instructions to touch the ring for unlock programming. A must have for kids who sometimes leave without locking the door. Don't go outside without leaving the door open, take your phone or key!

Smart Lock works well, extra fee for wifi

This lock was an easy switch out from my Kwikset deadbolt. I had a new door and lock so there was no problem with the upgrade. The programming was pretty easy and only took about an hour to install and program. If you want the wifi anywhere version you have to pay an additional $100 for the upgrade (one time) to open the lock from anywhere remotely. Otherwise you can unlock it from your phone using the app through bluetooth only and you must be within 20-30 feet or so. The install instructions were pretty easy. You leave the outside portion of your deadbolt in place and can still use your key outside, or the knob inside. You have the option to setup automatic locking 30 seconds after unlocked, or you can leave this option off and it works as normal. When the lock gets jammed (if the door was not closed completely or something was in the way) it is easy to reset but it sends out an annoying beep as a warning. It's a great lock I just wish it didn't require the additional $100 for the wifi anywhere service.

This lock just was not better than digging keys out of my pocket. It connects via bluetooth which is very slow to connect, and doesnt even start trying until the app is open. So you have to dig out your phone, open the app (about 30 seconds) then try connect (30 seconds to several minutes, then open the lock, another 4-5 seconds. It is not efficient. Touch did not work, and cannot be remotely controlled without a dongle as expensive as a better lock. And it doesn't connect to any of the systems we could test. No wink, smartthings, alexa, Google, none of them even recognized that there was a device present. Pros: it does look nice, and the outer facia is whatever lock you decide to install, so you don't advertise your smart lock to the world. It was easy to install, and set up, the first time. Subsequent setups were a pain in the... It does work, the lock opens and closes. Also since you teach it what open and closed are, it knows what it's status is, even if it doesn't know if it closed in the lock, or into thin air. Wife picked this up because it was on sale, we have it a shot.

Wasn't a bad idea, I definitely love having access to my locks to make sure they're closed. Having digital keys I can give out was nice also. But the lock was slow to connect (if at all) and was only available if I was nearby. I'd rather spring for the more expensive one that connects to my wifi for away from home use.

I was a little skeptical when I purchased this based off of the reviews, but the install was very easy and the lock has worked every single time! I usually have my hands full when I get home from work so this has been great being able to unlock the door when I get out of my vehicle. As of the time of this review I have been using for approx 1.5 months.
