    Lenovo - 110-17IKB 17.3 Laptop - Intel Core i5

I purchased this laptop after returning the Dell that I had purchased a week before. The Lenovo is a great machine. It is fast and the graphics are great. It does not have a lighted keyboard which I wanted, but I made the decision to go with the 17' screen and the very, very inexpensive price...it was on sale. I would rate this laptop 5 stars except for one thing...the right shift key and the up and down arrow are in the wrong place and that made it almost impossible to use the right shift. After researching I came upon a program (KeyTweak) that allowed me reconfigure the keyboard and make the page up key the right shift. I lost the use of page up since I now have two right shift buttons, but that is not a big deal. I rarely need the page up button and when I do, I just point to where I want to go with the mouse pointer. The picture I attached shows the position of the two keys. Like I posted they both are shift keys after I reconfigured them.

The "repair" statement might be referring to driver updates after the Windows 10 update. Not all drivers are included with the Windows 10 updates. Follow the link below to look for new driver updates for your specific system. You can also run diagnostics from the Lenovo site as well. As always, be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make any changes. You can do this by just typing "restore point" in the search window within Cortana and follow the link to create a restore point. Here is the link:

Good mid-range specs, entry level build quality

    |
    Posted .

On the surface this presents a pretty compelling value: Intel Core i5, 8GB of Ram, a big 17 inch screen and 1TB drive for under 500 dollars. I already have a 2 year old HP Pavilion with similar size and specs (i3, slower wireless--I've already converted it to Linux). I don't exactly regret the decision, but this does have an economy feel, more so than the entry level feel of earlier Lenovo products or even the HP this is replacing. The power chord plugs in to the left side--halfway between the front and back. A confoundingly dumb decision IMO, as it is consistently awkward and in the way. It should be on the back corner, either side, or off the very back side. I'm deducting a full star for this because it is absurd. Other people have commented on the awkward, abbreviated right shift button on other Lenovos--and this one is no different. Doesn't matter to me (I only use the left shift button) but if you do use the right one I could see this being a problem. Otherwise the keyboard is well laid out and typical in this price rage--note, it's not back-lit. That's a feature typical on higher priced laptops. The trackpad is functional--but obviously built for economy. Performance seems fine--but I'm still in setup mode waiting on my OneDrive to finish syncing. First thing I did was download a fresh copy of windows so that I could wipe out the typical bloatware and start fresh with a Windows-only install. This is a new feature with Windows 10 and I love it. No useless third party utilities, app stores, anti-virus, etc. Well worth the time up front to have a faster/smoother experience going forward. This represents a fair value for the price, given the specs. Laptops in this price range don't often have an i5--typically they have an i3 at best. The 8gb of ram is also high for this price range, as most computers in this range come with 4 or 6gb of ram. Just don't expect miracles in terms of build quality and overall "feel." If you want the build quality of a ThinkPad--Lenovo will sell you one of those, too, but it'll cost you. So one star off for the power plug location. I was tempted to take another off for build quality--but in this price range I'd say it's "as expected." So, four stars. Just know what you are buying.

This laptop has the hardware. i-5 8GB RAM, 1TB Hdd. Certainly worth the price, It has a cheap feel to it unfortunately. The plastic casing just doesn't feel sturdy. Upgrading is out of the question, besides an ssd. But for under 500 bucks, really cant complain.

    A good, basic 17" laptop

    Posted .

The gripes about the keyboard have merit. I use the right shift when I'm typing and the "up" arrow is right where my finger presses the right shift key. Don't mess with the basic keyboard layout, Lenovo! That's dumb. I have 4 other laptops and not one of them messes with the shift key. Every keyboard I've had for over 30 years (3 decades!) has a wide shift key in the same place and you moved it. That cost you a star and this long rant. I'd much rather have the arrow keys moved down into the empty space below the regular keys than push up into the shift key. Heck, move them down under the number keypad. 17" laptops have so much space. Use it. The other gripes I have are minor. The power port should be closer to the back and should be a larger, sturdier socket. The ethernet port should be gigabit. This isn't 2005. There should be one or two more USB3 ports. And the SD card should sit flush in the reader. Again, we're going back to space here. There's no reason to put a shorty-reader in such a huge laptop. I'd happily trade the optical drive for those upgrades. Oh, and the sound is pretty bad. Not the quality but the volume. I have both the system and app volume maxed and can barely hear the audio. On the neutral side, the plastic feels a bit cheap and the surface around the keyboard takes me back to the 80s but the material and finish have one big plus. No fingerprints! My last 3 laptops have been fingerprint magnets. This one doesn't look like it's been mauled by a sticky toddler when I'm done using it. So it feels cheap but it looks decent. Another neutral note is the lack up upgrade options. I'm used to having a big panel on the bottom of a laptop that provides easy access to RAM, hard drive, wireless card, and optical drive. But this is an entry level machine that's pretty well loaded out of the box. On the positive side, it's pretty responsive. I saw another review that said it's slow. It's not. At all. It plays videos fine, even off Best Buy's site. It streams video fine from Youtube and Netflix. It plays DVDs fine. It plays locally stored video fine. Web browsing is very snappy and it has plenty of power and RAM for basic productivity apps. I wouldn't recommend trying to play the latest AAA games but that's not what this laptop is for. Overall, I'm very happy with the laptop. I bought it for my dad to use for surfing, streaming video, social media, and other basic stuff and it handles those things very well. The specs are good enough that it should keep him happy for years. Heck, I'd be happy with it (aside from the shift key) and I'm pretty demanding.

    Great laptop

Overall this is a good laptop the specs on it are the specs i was looking for and they run on this laptop exactly how I wanted them too . I can play pc games (older ones) so far ive only played battlefield 4 and the sims 3 and they both ran smooth I haven't played any newer games on it so idk how that would work out if your interested in games but any older games just look at what the specs require and this baby is good to go Typing: typing is ok the shift button on the right hand side is very small idk why but even the best buy rep said that typers usually get mad about that so if your a typer i dont think youll love the keys . And sometimes i have to push down hard on the keys for it to register but i only do browsing occasionally on this laptop Every day use. Perfect for a person just looking for a laptop for everyday use like facebook, facebook games, looking up stuff , typing here and there, skype etc... Frontfacing cam is not all that bad but I wouldn't rely on it if your a heavy skype user or need it for gaming . Go buy a webcam. It doesnt pick up lighting at all Netflix other video watching programs.. i woud rate it a 3 out of 5 The screen on this laptop is huge so as to be expected that means the lighting on it is not that great . Way to many glares and the brightness overall on this computer is not that bright Traveling:... No . NO & No!!! Keep this lap top at home its way to big and bulky and uncomfortable to sit in your lap . Its looks and feel nice but once u open it you wil realize like holy this laptop is huge not good for traveling I wouldnt recommend it and theres another reason because...... BATTERY LIFE !!..0 OUT OF 5 Holly mother Mary the battery life on this computer is HORRIBLE! I FELT LIKE they didnt even try to focus on making it good lol even when its fully charged and im just watching videos on youtube and browsing here and there its always about to die always always always its so annoying. You have a good 45-1hour window tops on this thing witch is another reason why I wouldn't recommend for traveling. So a few pointers dont beat this thing up if your goin to game on this thing dont burn it out playing games and keeping it charged. Because if u do game on a full battery it will die within 30 mins. And ppl who watch videos the same goes to you. Dont abuse this laptop Netflix and chilling with the charger plugged in it alot of ppl make those mistake with laptops and 6 months -1 they have to keep their laptops on a charger at all times.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-17 laptop. With regard to the right shift key issue you mention, there is a free software APP called KeyTweak that may help you. You can switch the key functions of specific keys on your keyboard with this software, so you could change the right shift key with the key you hit in its place. Just Google search "KeyTweak" and you will find articles about what the software does and you will find the download location for this free APP. The battery life of this device should average 4 to 6 hours, depending on the work the device is performing. Try changing your power management setting to a more conservative one. You can do this in the control panel, in the power management category on your system. Select a more conservative power management setting to extend battery life. lenovo

    Good Budget Laptop

    |
    Posted .

As we all know Lenovo makes some superior devices and are incredibly trustworthy. I bought this device as a budget laptop when my original Acer which I hated and enjoyed when it finally died. The Lenovo product is a good product as it has the nice large screen and a decent processing unit that can run some newer games such as Sniper Elite 4 on the low setting with no problems. If you are using this for emails and word processing then this is all you would need as it can do that with ease. The only downside to this product for me is the wall plugin which has the power brick built into the plugin and the mousepad. The large brick is troublesome to fit with other devices needing to be plugged in and the tracks feels like you are rubbing your fingers on sandpaper because of the texture. However, if these are my only two complaints on a budget laptop then that just goes to show how excellent of a product that Lenovo makes.

Basic laptop at great price performance point

    |
    Posted .

Working great after 2+ months of ownership. Just basic - no newer features such as touch screen that weren't of value to me. At $420 great performance - nearly the same as the "standard" Core i7 laptops. The 17" screen is great for my use without a separate monitor and not being carried about. It has Bluetooth, which the equivalent HP laptop didn't. Lenovo chat support seems prompt and effective - resolved a driver problem I suspect was caused by a standard Microsoft driver over-writing the Lenovo driver. The full numeric keyboard makes the small right shift key compromise easier to take. Unfortunately this machine is no longer being sold and you'll have to pay about $100+ more for similar performance.

Good laptop but terrible power cord

    |
    Posted .

I really like my laptop but am VERY unhappy with the power cord. It is very short and just one piece. Every other laptop I have had or even seen has had a long cord that was in two pieces. This one is so short, it gets tripped on all the time and it is very agitating when I need to plug it up and have to stay close to a plug. Other than the cord, it is a very good laptop. They just need to rethink the power cord. I have looked at other reviews and it seems that there are lots of people who feel the same way.

    Good laptop for the price

I ended up buying 2 of these as it went on sale the day I purchased - great timing. Specs are great for what they are being used for. Not really a complaint bc of the price, its really hard to have any. Needs more USB ports - only has 2. The other, is the really cheap feel of the laptop itself, again, you get what you pay for. It is really a large footprint compared to other 17" laptops I have used/owned. Bought a USB hub, fixed that issue. Both being used as desktop replacements, I do recommend this but if looking for mobile, 17" is not it.

I like this computer. I really like the bluetooth option it has. I can see the screen on it better than the other computers I tired. The sound doesnt go that loud, so a bluetooth speaker would go nice with it. When the battery starts to go low the screen dims and then it beeps right before it shuts off, which the battery life is pretty good so far. I am not fond of how hard you have to push the clickers but i'm getting used to it. Overall a good buy.

    good machine, fast

    |
    Posted .

This machine is fast , some have complained about the power cord plugging into the side of the machine rather than the rear or towards the back on the side, but it really hasn't affected anything for me. The power cord is only half of the length of other , but I just grabbed a small extension cord and now it's even longer, so again no problem. This PC I have done something different though, I went through it and deleted anything that I did not need so hopefully it won't run slower down the road. Seems great so far.

My research (at Best Buy, Office Depot/Office Max, Amazon) led me to believe this was the best value at the price point and I've been very pleased thus far. I love the large screen and ample HD space. Battery life is good though I seldom use it unplugged. My only complaint is speed but what do you expect at $400? i5, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB HD with a 17" display is a terrific buy!

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-17 laptop. This system should be a fast system with its Core I-5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. lenovo

Love my new Lenovo laptop! I like bigger laptops and this one has a large screen and a full sized keyboard. The speed is great, and even the slowest of websites load with ease. I love that it comes with a CD/DVD drive, as so many units do not anymore and I need it for all the music I handle with my computer. Setup is easy and allows customization of programs and apps. It's not a flashy laptop, so this buy is one for functionality, not for looking fancy. The keyboard has one down side: there is a Page Up key directly next to the right shift key. It takes some getting used to. But, the mousepad has great response and so far, I don't struggle with mis-clicks like I did with my last computer. For the price I paid, you can't ask for any more!

Purchased to replace a 5-year-old Toshiba laptop (also from Best Buy) with "bare-bones" AMD processor. New laptop will be used primarily for wife's growing, home-based business. Particularly wanted speed of an I5 chip, significantly improved processing capacity and speed, memory, and largest possible screen within a tight budget. Lenovo fit all criteria and more.
