We've had nothing but issues with this product. Manufacturer replaced motherboard.... Then one day after that we needed a harddrive... Now it's not loading. We've only had this device for three months. Please stay away from this model

    A Decent Basic System

    Posted .

I purchased this as a sort of a stop gap between an existing system and a future system just to be able to check email, pay bills online, surf and shop the internet. This system will do all that, and has good features, such as: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in addition to the Ethernet connection, a DVD/CD burner, 64-bit Windows 10, 500 G hard drive, memory card reader, HDMI and VGA, and six USB ports, two of which are 3.0. The Pentium processor is not the same as the ones from 20 years ago except for the name, and is a slight upgrade from the Atom and the Celeron. It is only 1.6 GHz however. Though Windows 10 supposedly only uses one or two GB of memory, 4 GB of RAM did not seem to be enough. Internet pages loaded slowly, and if multiple tabs were opened, the computer really seem to bog down, like a Model T on a muddy road after a hard rain. My old computer with Windows Vista only has three GB of RAM, but is much faster, though it has a Core 2 Quad processor. The Lenovo comes with some useful software with system status and optimization features. My 300s only has one memory slot, not two as the specs state, and 8 GB is the max amount of RAM you can install. I purchased an 8 GB RAM replacement module. It took maybe one to two minutes to upgrade, though it cost me an extra $30. The memory upgrade was worth it though, as now the computer has a whole new level of functionality. I like to have multiple tabs open when surfing the internet, and found that by the time I had 10 tabs open, the computer basically stopped working. After the upgrade to 8 GB, I have had 30 or more tabs open and had not lost functionality. From my experience, if you are thinking of purchasing this computer, consider that you may want to upgrade the RAM. Factor this in and you may decide to spend more on another computer upfront. My laptop with Windows 7 and 4 GB worked okay. By the way, this computer uses notebook type memory, and the power supply is an external brick like the type notebooks use.

WRNING - Total Junk - DO NOT BUY !!!

Bought new 3 months ago, warnings pop up saying "cpu fan malfunction" Within one day pc will not even turn on. Brought it in told mother board is now shot, they could send it in and the co will let me know the cost I would need to pay to fix it, that this is NOT covered. The cost would be what we paid for it or more and it would be at least 2 weeks! PC has a 45mm fan in it. That would work on a small lap top! The fan did still run but when they put it in something this size this is what you get! Other parts I'm sure are just as poor! We are now out of $284 + $90 for our pc guy to set it up for us, as well as all the running around and not having a pc for over a week! If I could give less than a one star I would!

    good basic desktop

We replaced our 7 year old desktop with the Lenovo and Windows 10. We don't have a home business; we're not gamers; we are basic internet users and avid users of Microsoft products: Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Publisher. This desktop meets our needs. We integrate programs with a PC notebook and tablet. 4 stars and not 5 because of some limited functionality. However we chose this model because it meet our basic needs and the price point that we wanted.

Lenovo customer support is a nightmare

    |
    Posted .

I purchased this computer February 2016 and it functioned adequately for 4 months. It failed June 2016, and I called Lenovo customer support. Lenovo customer support is an endless maze designed to infuriate and demoralize even the most patient mortal human. They had me mail the $270 computer to their repair depot where it still remains after 6+ weeks. I was promised a new replacement computer for my trouble. It will ship as soon as I reply to confirm my address and agree to the replacement option. The email was from a NOREPLY@LENOVO.COM address! No way to reply. Blatant stall tactic. It’s almost September, and no resolution. Do not buy any Lenovo product.

I bought this as an inexpensive replacement for a 10 year old Dell that finally decided not to boot. I didn't need a workhorse -- just something for light web and email use. But I needed it quick. And I needed Windows because my printer doesn't have Linux drivers. Unfortunately, Windows 10 makes this low-end hardware crawl. Installing Xubuntu Linux makes it boot and run faster, but not much faster. I think the 10 year old Dell with windows XP seemed faster than this machine. Even my wife, who is not picky about what computer she uses, was frustrated to the point she has abandoned it in favor of a two year old Chromebook (much snappier, more portable, and energy efficient). BTW: Windows 10 doesn't recognize Cannon's printer drivers, so that was a fail too.

Disappointing When Alive, Now Totally Dead

    |
    Posted .

This was purchased as a system for basic tasks, for a business. It needed to run shipping software, which is not very demanding, and handle basic office tasks and web browsing. It did this sufficiently, at best. It was often rather slow, despite not having much demand placed on it, but it at least got the job done. Until one day when it wouldn't boot, and required some fiddling. It started again - though we couldn't figure out why. Now it's dead again, won't even try to boot up. The fan spins, but no lights, nothing. After a few hours of troubleshooting (I have significant experience in this), I'm giving up and ordering something more powerful that I can trust. If this gets running again, it'll be a backup only, and its use for even that is questionable. Avoid this one, and spend a little more on something that won't frustrate you when it works and leave you hanging when it suddenly quits entirely.

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the Lenovo IdeaCentre 300s desktop. This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. Start the system from completely turned off. Turn the system on, before the system boots, hit the F2 key repeatedly. The system should boot to a choice screen where you can choose "Restore To Factory Default". Select this. It will delete everything from the hard drive except the original factory install of the operating system. You will need to reinstall all programs and files after the reset. If you don't have copies of the files, try to make one before you restore by selecting "Boot to desktop" and trying to back up your files. lenovo

I bought this computer for my mother who is an older aged user and computer challenged. It is simple to use and has a few features. The price was quite reasonable and it has enough speed and memory to do the simple activities such as reading email and downloading simple items from the net.

Good Computer, Windows 10 is Awful

    |
    Posted .

It was time for my old Gateway All-In-One to go, so I just wanted a simple computer. This Lenovo met my needs for the price I was willing to pay. The downside is that it comes with Windows 10; I do not like it - I've lost a lot of functionality of accessories (printer/scanner), it took me several days to make critical features of my security software work, etc, etc. I wish it had Windows 7 on it; I don't know what the wizards at MS were thinking with Win 10 - maybe it'll grow on me over time.

A little slower than I was use to so I only use it for basic computing. I had it for about 30 days when the Lenovo self scan software popped up & said there was a hardware failure. Good thing as I am bad about running scans. Lenovo said to take it back to Best Buy for repair. They ran a scan which showed the same failure ( hard drive was bad). Best Buy had to send it in to Lenovo to get it repaired. I was told it would take 4 days to 4 weeks to get it back. You can track the status of the repairs. The pros were the price & the guarantee is good. The cons if the time it take to get it repaired.

the screen is a little jumpy when you are surfing the web- sometimes it hesitates when you want to go some where- sometimes you have to click more than once before it will do what it is supposed to do-- that is the negative--on the positive- good color vibrant-- helps are great as I am sometimes lost - Cortana is best shut off --sound is good-- needs more hard drive memory and up graded ram on purchase-- seems to be over all a great machine

    Basic Computer

Basic computer. I thought a quad core processor would be quicker than my old dual core e-machine with only 2 gig of ram and 9 years old. Not so much. I upgraded the Leveno to 8 gib ram for 38.00 on line and only slightly better. I can see why this item is discontinued and the newer version has a Pentium i3 processor. That all being said. For the open box price and what I have so far so good. Got this basically as a backup and only occasional use. Hope I don’t have any problems as I have seen in other reviews. If it lasts a couple of years it will be worth the money.

Good for an entry level desktop

This was the lowest priced desktop the store offered. It is essentially laptop fitted into a desktop casing. Everything is one main board and uses a laptop external power adapter to power it. So it is not a powerful unit by any means. However, it gets the job done for very basic situations.

    Great for Seniors and beginners.

The slim size takes up way less room than my old tower. This computer lets me do everything as a senior I need it to do. Speed is not a number one priority, but it is fast enough for me. I am able to shop, e-mail, and do my banking from home.

    Decent, inexpensive small desktop

Bought it for a senior relative who browses the web and prepares simple text documents time to time. This machine doesn't really have much of upgrade capability (don't think it can accept full-height extension cards), but in this particular case it wasn't needed anyway. The interesting moment is that it uses a laptop power brick with IBM/Lenovo rectangular "yellow power jack", rather than a built-in power supply with a standard power cable — this fact threw me off at first.

It has always been slow to respond and it stopped working completely after three months due to a failed motherboard. It was sent for repairs and it took a phone call to the store manager to get a reply as to how long that would take. After being told several times that there was no ETA available, it was returned after 3 weeks. Geek Squad was great and took remoter command of it three times before it stopped working.

Open Box...Right Time Right Place Purchase

    |
    Posted .

I purchased the Lenovo PC Tower as an open box item, I had purchased a Dell PC from another online merchant and it burnt out on me in less than two months. As a WAH business owner, I needed a new PC asap, and my initial purpose at Best Buy was to get my previous PC fixed by Geek Squad who in turned my previous PC was not worth the repair (Costing more to fix). I pondered on that and decided to purchase a new one. I walked around looking for new PC's compatible to my business needs. However, became discouraged at not finding what I wanted.....the one of the Geek Squad reps, showed me the Lenovo in a cage (open box item) for an affordable price and just what I needed for work. I am thankful and grateful that he showed such a great product. I have had No problems with my Lenovo PC, its fully equipped and runs Windows 10. Only thing that I wish it came equipped with is two monitor connectors in the back. Other than that, Great product. Thanks Geek Squad and Best Buy.

This pc is decent for the price you pay. It has only one major flaw in the mother board that I have seen online but when it does run okay it works great and has no issues for a beginner computer or for a pc for surfing and reading emails etc.
