I'll start off by saying I am very satisfied with the 15" Lenovo ideapad 500 with the AMD processer. Having said that if you are a novice to computer operating systems and feel uncomfortable with tough install issues than get some help from the Geek Squad or a friend with some skill and patience. The reviews I read weren't very good for this computer but the price was tempting and the return policy was reasonable so I gave it a try. First, the system was very slow in downloading the Windows 10 upgrade and I had to retry multiple times before getting it right. Once I did that many of the problems I read about in the reviews were taken care of. The only remaining issues were trouble with Bluetooth and short battery life. Battery life is about 2.5 hours. I still haven't figured out the Bluetooth. Since I use this computer as a replacement for my desktop it is usually plugged in so battery life really isn't an issue. I don't use the Bluetooth so that isn't a problem. Also it gives me something to play with in attempts to get it working. I'm still getting used to the keyboard but that will come in time. I would say that if you are looking for a really portable laptop to use sitting on your lap I'd recommend getting a smaller screen size. This one is a bit big and cumbersome for that. Bottom line is that this one works for me and there was a price drop shortly after I bought it which BestBuy honored without any problem. I feel I got a great deal.

I like everything about this laptop- almost. For the price it is perfect. The only thing I'm disappointed about is the place where you're hand rests while typing. One of the deciding factors in purchasing a lenovo is that they are know for having the best keyboard on the market. But the edge of the keyboard is not comfortable and I get bruises on my wrists when typing for any length of time. It would be nice if they could soften those edges or come up with something that the wrist could rest on. The rest of the keyboard delivers.

I am an engineer and I am all about finding the best solution based on a weighted balance of functionality and quality for price for the intended use. I researched over 29 different laptops with different configurations of features. I bought this laptop for my wife. She is a home-school teacher and does typical email and web surfing. Key features that separated this product from others, HD screen, fast processor, lots of RAM and storage and has a DVD drive. I was surprised to see many laptops no longer offer a DVD drive. I looked all over the internet during black friday and cyber week. Best deal was at Best Buy!! I was surprised. Even checking back after Christmas, the price I got was still lower. Out of the box, laptop is light weight, elegant, great layout of keys and was surprised to see it had JBL speakers! All in all great laptop for my wife and her intended use as a teacher and casual web surfer.

I bought this laptop about a week ago as a replacement for my broken 2009 Macbook. I don't do a whole heck of a lot on a laptop, mainly I just use it for browsing web forums or facebook from my recliner. I'll pay bills here and there and browse photo websites. For those purposes this laptop is great. For the price paid, it's a fantastic bargain. For not much more than a Chromebook, you get a fully fledged Windows 10 PC with an AMD A10 Processor, 8gb of RAM, Wireless AC, and a 1TB hard drive. Not bad specs for under $400. When I was looking at new computers a 1080p screen was a must. They just look so much better than a 768p screen. I have no idea why 1080p isn't standard in 2016 for a laptop. That's not even a standard resolution for phones anymore, but that's a whole different story. If you can afford it, go 1080p at a minimum. The AMD A10 processor is plenty fast for basic computing (and even a little more than basic computing) needs. If you're just using this for web browsing, it's going to be fantastic. I've tested it out with some Steam games (Civ V and a couple indies) and it performs admirably. I can run CivV at full resolution with most effects on. You could even run Skyrim on this at lower settings. This is roughly somewhere between a Core i3 and a Core i5 processor if you're comparing to Intel. For someone with needs like mine, this laptop is fine. It doesn't have the best construction, it lacks a few high end features like a backlit screen, a metal chassis, and a SSD. Still mulling over putting an SSD in this. But for the price you're paying you're getting a pretty competent machine that will do most of what people need a laptop computer for. It will browse facebook, it will edit photos, it will email, and it will play some (light) games. Just don't consider lugging it around everywhere. It's not the lightest computer - but if you're buying a 15" laptop over an 11" or 13", you know that.

Purchased this laptop a few weeks ago. Has a very nice feel and weight to it. Gets warm but not too hot. Handles League of Legends great on medium high graphics. Keyboard is a bit flimsy on the left side, could just be mine. You also can't type and move your curser at the same time, while using the track pad, but can with a mouse. Speakers very nice quality compared to my Toshiba satellite. Great HD display. While watching dvds, it makes a disturbing noise if you move the pc. I like my laptop over all and am happy with my purchase. All though, I would recommend buying the geek squad protect and support plus plan, just to be safe.

I use this for Adobe Programs and programming. it works amazingly for both and I haven't had a problem running anything. The battery life isn't great while I'm running all my programs but the charger included is long enough to access an outlet no matter where I am in my classrooms. The storage is great and I don't have to worry about file size. 3 USB ports is also very helpful!

Love this computer; super easy to set up and get started with. I started with the Lenovo with intel processor and less memory. Returned for this one with AMD and 1TB; much faster, also better picture and much better sound. The only problem is the short battery life. I have exchanged it 2 times already for this reason. Even just running Netflix with nothing else open I only get about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs tops on a full charge. That's a bit of a pain. the charging cord is too short as well so I have to use an extension. Otherwise the speed is excellent and the keyboard with 10 key and mouse all have a good touch.

After reading many reviews, both professionals and consumers, I narrowed my shopping to 2 brands. HP and Lenovo. In the end an open box markdown broke the tie. Lenovo has a good reputation as an off-shoot of computer giant IBM. IBM is the great grandparent of all things PC. With this pedigree and a killer price my shopping ended at Best Buy. With 8 gigs of ram and a 1tb hard drive this machine is If I had to mention a negative... I'd say it's the AMD processor. It is so much slower than an Intel i5. But with so much going for it, unless you're a gamer it's a great laptop for the money.

This is a great budget laptop with a lot of strong features! We bought this for our daughter and she loves it. The screen is bright and large, processor is good and there is 8 GB of RAM. It also has ample hard drive space and an Nvidia graphics card, which provides smooth graphics and decent frame rates. Great product. Highly recommended

My other laptop developed monitor issues so I had to look for a new one. I have had good luck with refurbs and sale items. I found a Lenovo on clearance that had a config I liked, 1tb of disc, 8gb memory and a quad processor. It has been great, very fast, easy to use with win 10 and I am very pleased with it.

I bought this because it had all the specs to make it great. A fast processor, ample amount of memory, amazing speakers, and a Full HD screen. The FHD screen is matte - so it's not as beautiful as some of the other FHD screens on the market. The speakers are incredible for a laptop at any price point, especially one below $500. The build of this feels sturdy, except for the keyboard. The keyboard is just laughable, it's so flimsy and cheap-feeling that I couldn't type on it for long without feeling annoyed by it. All in all, if you're mainly looking for a FHD screen at a decent price point, this computer is okay. However, if the FHD screen isn't your main concern, I'd say look at some other laptops that offer similar specs at even lower prices.

I love this fast computer. And it has tons of storage! But it is a little big to use as an actual laptop, more to stay on a desk or table. Hard to find cases that will fit it. Other than that I love it!

Compared to the laptop I had before this one, it is a massive improvement. It runs much faster, has an easy to understand interface, and of course Cortana. It can run multiple programs no problem and even has a quick startup time. However my only gripe is its short battery life. Having so many benefits on this laptop drains the battery very quickly, making it last on average two-and-a-half hours. Other than that, well worth the purchase.

Christmas gift for my teenager who needed a laptop for school work. Love the big screen, Windows 10, speed and memory. We uninstalled McAfee and downloaded Webroot - so far so good. Screen quality is okay - but my teen doesn't mind.... she has watched plenty of Netflix already on it. Its heavier than I expected, but it's not for travel... so that is fine. We are pleased with this purchase - but my daughter absolutely loves it!
