Excellent laptop is ahead of the competition

I bought this laptop after purchasing, exchanging, and then returning the new OLED Spectre 13. My reasons were: -Crackling speakers above 65% volume on almost any music and video (both units I owned exhibited this characteristic, and as a musician this was unacceptable to me) -Clacky trackpad (also on both units) -Keyboard was offset to the left and made typing difficult -Dots on OLED screen- especially visible on whites and greys- however, contrast and color accuracy and vibrancy are best in class on the HP- probably amazing for video and picture editing What makes the Lenovo superior: -Build quality is top notch -Incredible sound system for a laptop- almost like listening to a Bluetooth speaker -Much more comfortable and well placed keyboard- my typing accuracy doubled -Trackpad is larger and sturdier -the 14" screen makes streaming and browsing the web much more enjoyable -The battery seems to last about 1-2 hours longer -Geekbench, Cinebench, PcMark 10 and Novabench benchmarks were higher on the Lenovo than the Spectre I had the Spectre for about 4 weeks before exchanging it for the Lenovo, so I had plenty of time to form my opinion. I hope that this review helps those who may be on the fence between the two. Build quality is so important on a laptop, and I feel much more secure with the Lenovo.

    Overall great a great computer

Great laptop, especially with the discount. The feeling of the keyboard and the material is top-notch. The sound quality is very impressive. I switched from surface pro and there are several things can be improved. First is the pen. It is smaller and slender than surface pen. It is not easy to use at first and there is no “eraser” at the top. The second is the fan noise. The fan will run start constantly even stays on desktop with almost no task. It still happens when I update to the newest driver. I try to change the battery plan but there is no option. The noise is not crazy loud but it is obvious with a quiet surrounding. It is very close to a perfect purchase(4.5/5). This is the best price with such configuration. But definitely can be improved.

The first one I bought was completely malfuntioned... it was getting too hot real fast and glitching alot... I sent it back and and they replaced with another new one and worked perfectly fine super fast and great quality for video editing and photography editing doesn't get hot like the first one... speakers are amazingly awsome super loud for a laptop.... Love it so much just right for me I also got the mouse super cool on Lenovo.com...but gave it a 4 star because of the first laptop that was malfunctioning and killed my thrill the geting this in my hands that day.. but so far Great computer will recommend...

Terrible Built-In Defect in Otherwise Great Laptop

    |
    Posted .
Owned for 1 week when reviewed.

I love everything about this computer EXCEPT the major defect with the screen. It is the same one everyone has documented where the taskbar takes over the screen. When I went to Best Buy, they said it was the first case they had seen with this new model but that it was common defect with older Lenovo models. I replaced the computer with the same model thinking it was an isolated incident. It was not. DO NOT let Lenovo tell you any different. This is a BUILT IN defect as attested to by Best Buy and CANNOT be solved by simply deleting competing anti-virus software. It is happening to MANY people with this exact same model. Very dissapointed because otherwise it is an excellent machine. Amazing screen resolution and brightness, comfortable keyboard, sleek look, the two-in-one function works seemlessly, the built-in stylus is really helpful and the sound bar has a smart location. It's also light but with a solid-feel which is great when you're using it as a tablet. I love everything about this laptop other than the glaring built-in defect that Lenovo is trying to pass the blame for. This issue showed up only a few weeks into me having the Lenovo, so I would recommend paying attention to your warranty period and sending it back when you see it happening as well. If you feel you can live with the defect feel free to buy it, but as Best Buy told me, it would be better to replace the computer because the defect will only get worse with time, it will not go away because it is built-in to the computer itself, and then you'll be strapped with a $1,500 machine when you could have used that money to have a slightly less sleek option that actually works the way its supposed to. 1 Stars because the computer is admittedly nice, but again I recommend looking elsewhere. (Also, the purchase date is from the replacement laptop I received after finding the defect in the first. I would have purchased a different laptop if I knew then that it was a widespread problem.)

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with your Lenovo Yoga C940-14 4K model. It is possible that restoring the computer back to original factory settings will correct the issue you encountered. This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the bottom of the computer, at the bottom left corner of the cooling vent on the device. You will need a pin to push this reset button. Plug the device in. Let the battery charge for about 15 minutes. Push the reset button. The system should boot to a choice screen where you can choose "Restore To Factory Default". Select this. It will delete everything from the hard drive except the original factory install of the operating system. You will need to reinstall all programs and files after the reset. If you don't have copies of the files, try to make one before you restore by selecting "Boot to desktop" and trying to back up your files. Once you have the computer reset, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programming errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Lenovo

I got the Lenovo Yoga C940 for about a year now and it has been working great, it looks modern, it is slim and the battery lasts a long time. I take the laptop everywhere and when it is sitting on my desk for a long time, I have it on battery saving, so it charges up to a certain percentage then it works until it needs to be charged again, saving the life of the battery. It is a touchscreen so it is super easy to just use both of my hands to get where I want. I recently updated to the Windows 11 and I did not have to do anything for it to do it. I like how reliable it is and I will keep buying Lenovo.

    Screen glitches

Within days of purchasing this laptop the screen began to have problems. The bottom section of the screen would replicate multiple times covering the entire screen. So far, it has returned to normal after touching the screen. This has been documented by several other owners on https://forums.lenovo.com. I am debating whether to return it. Given the price, I would expect higher quality.

Beautiful Laptop That is a HUGE Letdown

    |

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.

1st let me say this is a gorgeous laptop. Screen is killer and love the design. Has built in mini sound bar upfront that actually aims at your while you use it vs under the laptop like most others. Built in pen storage and amazing screen. Specs wise this is 11th GEN 17 16gb ram 512ssd so BEAST. However this laptop apparently has a MAJOR Quality control issue. The screen. Since I got it the screen will replicate the task bar and slowing scroll it up. UPdated drivers, bios, reboot, reset etc. If you touch the screen it will go away but for how much this laptop is and is a HUGE let down. ALSO FYI Lenovo warranty Starts with 1st Owner so if you buy open box like I did, it had 1 MONTH WARRANTY LEFT & thanks on Lenovo not best buy. I was very disappointed in this laptop after working on and currently owning a Lenovo Thinkpad but apparently there is a Major difference in quality. The screen thing is common look at the best buy reviews or even look at other sites. Plenty of owners with the same issue. With this laptop it seems its hit or miss on quality control. Go for it if you want but make sure you buy Geek Squad warranty because Lenovo Customer service will have you frustrated.

    Obtrusive, unfixable screen glitch

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.

When my computer was 3 months old, the screen started glitching. Multiple task bars appear on the display every 30 minutes or so and you can't do anything to make them go away. I've tried updating drivers and any other "fix" that anyone has suggested, to no avail. According to many resources, Lenovo has known about this issue and it seems to be specific to this model, for some reason, but has done nothing to fix it. So, I had to send it in for "repair". Based on what I've read, I doubt that it will be fixed the first or second time around. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this model.

    Intel Optane SSD is rubbish

Owned for 6 months when reviewed.

Intel Optane SSD failed after only 6 months. This computer is owned by a 65 yo Granny. She does not stress it much at all. Mainly email and the occasional ZOOM meeting. The computer performed well but who would expect a HD failure so soon. And this was unlike any HD failure I ever encountered. It would not boot. File System completely gone. SSD no longer recognized by BIOS. In the past when a HD would not boot at least I could access the drive using recovery disks. Not in this case. I could get a windows to start from disk but still no SSD access. Very Disappointing. think twice before you get a Lenovo with Intel Optane. I don't wish this on anyone.

Great device but mine was DOA

    Posted .

I purchased this laptop in January, and right off the bat, it began to give me issues: the fans were SO LOUD that it was discernable at all times in a quiet room (and could even be heard above normal conversational levels), even when I was just running Google Chrome. I assumed this was just because the device was set to operate at such a high level with 16 GB memory and i7. In February, I left the country, so was unable to bring it to Best Buy for a look. In March, when I returned to the US due to COVID, I had to spend a lot more time on Zoom, and the laptop would crash constantly. It would freeze, the screen would flash green and red, and when it froze, it would make a horrible screeching noise. It froze nearly every day. I eventually did a factory reset on the device which cleared up the freezing issue for a few months, but the device's fans were still loud and it would get HOT. Unable to touch it HOT. Last month, the green/red flashing continued, and I took it to Geek Squad. They sent it out for diagnostics/repair under warranty, where I've now been informed that the device had a defective motherboard and defective thermal modules upon purchase. I've had to buy a Microsoft Surface Pro ($800) in the interim to attend my classes remotely, which is working far better than my $1600 Lenovo device ever did. I look forward to getting my device back, but now that I have a Pro, I'm not even sure that I want my Yoga back given the multitude of issues I experienced with it. I've attached a photo of what happens when the screen would flash.

I'm in love with this computer, the first one I order came with a glitch on the screen but the replacement is perfect. The only thing is that Windows slows down any PC, on linux is top performer.

I wish this is the one for me. The 4K display is awesome, speed fast, great for browsing etc. why do I set 1 star? Because the screen flicker once in a while. For the price I paid for, the product should be flawless inside and out. I tried to update drivers, reset everything and finally.. returned it.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with your Lenovo Yoga C940-14 4K model number 81Q90041US. If you updated to the latest version of Windows 10, then updated BIOS files and drivers and the issue with screen flicker continues, now try a factory reset. This may reset the screen back to original settings and fix the issue you describe. If you can not rest the computer normally due to the flicker, this system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the bottom left side of the device, right near the bottom left corner of the cooling vent on the device. If the problem persists after the factory reset, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Lenovo

    Buy Something More Reliable Instead

    Posted .

I don’t really write reviews because I don’t like bashing the product but I just wanted to warn future buyers that were looking into this product. Please do not buy if you have other options. This product only lasted me not even a full year and I’m the type of person to take really good care of my products. Here are some of the defects: Screen Randomly Glitches Power Drains Really Fast Not Turning On (Currently, 1st Photo) With Apps, Netflix for example, when you pause, it gives me a black screen. I have to exit out the app and start it again. Icons are constantly changing size (Still have to put this to the test with other tv’s and pc’s ) But when connecting this specific laptop to my tv with an hdmi, no sound comes out of the tv. There’s constantly an app (microsoft teams) bugging me at the beginning of turning it on, asking me to sign in, etc. Please, save your money and instead buy something more reliable.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo Yoga C940-14 4K model number 81Q90041US. Try resetting your computer back to original factory settings to clear any software conflicts. This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the bottom left side of the device, right near the bottom left corner of the cooling vent on the bottom of the device. Lenovo

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo Yoga C940-14 4K model. First, be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10 on the computer. Then update all of the BIOS files and drivers up to that latest version of Windows 10. You can easily accomplish this by scanning the computer with the Lenovo Utility software available on this computer. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help. Lenovo

I'm in IT and engineering. I usually don't purchase computers through Best Buy, but this pandemic is changing a lot of things. I needed a machine for my own use after sending my last laptop (mine) to an employee who was in trouble. One of the reasons I don't order consumer computers is because the OS and BIOS are usually need to be updated (a lot) out of the box. Moreover, the include a lot of crapware. This was not any different. However, once you put the time in to rid it of junk and update the important bits, it's a pleasantly speedy machine with good specifications for most users. It's equivalent to the Dell XPS 9300 in terms of performance so far, after the myriad of updates. And, the 14" 4K screen is a hair larger than my Dell's 13.4" screen, which is nice for tired eyes. My plan is to order another Dell for work, but I will be keeping this machine for home use. My kids will enjoy using it too for their creative work, given it has pen support. Two Thunderbolt ports and a USB-A port seems sensible and about the minimum a home computer should have, given one is used by the charger. One item of note is that the BIOS needed to be updated to solve a rather frustrating initial video glitch. Once complete, the machine works as expected. Wait to catch it on sale for $200 off. At the lower price, it's about the best option on the market for the money.
