Before I came across Level, I wasn’t keen on smart locks mainly because I’m a renter and the installation process typically requires too much alteration for my landlord’s comfort. Also, I’m not a fan of the extra equipment that smart home gadgets require like a Wi-Fi bridge. But Level Locks caught my eye because of their unique and simple design. It looks like a standard lock so it blends in well with my current lock and door. I currently have a brass plate on my door (picture below) and I was impressed with how well it matched. I live in an old apartment building so my front door is very old and parts of the doorframe are rotting. Initially, I was worried I’d run into major roadblocks but the installation went off without a hitch. The lock has been working great – even as a HomeKit user, I actually find myself using the Level app more than the Home app. I’ve noticed the HomeKit app is slow and not as reliable. When my friends from out of town visited, I was able to remotely let them in through the Level app. In addition to the app, there are a lot of ways you can lock/unlock your door (key card, touch, phone, and regular key). When I leave my apartment, I lock the door just by touching it and when I come home, I just touch to unlock it; it’s drop-dead simple. I still have yet to use the key cards but that’s strictly a personal preference, though I’m glad I have the option. As someone who loses their keys very often, I’m very pleased with my Level Lock - Touch Edition and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a smart lock, especially if you don’t want to interfere with your current setup.

I ordered Level Lock Touch Edition specifically for our back door — It’s situated at the top of a steep and dark staircase with no landing (see photos), which made fumbling with regular keys to get in each time a really treacherous situation. We installed our Level Lock a couple weekends ago, and now my husband and I are both so relieved that we can more easily and safely come and go through that door (especially since we usually have a baby and/or dog in tow). We usually either use the app or finger touch to unlock, and it’s been great. I also appreciate the little chime sound it makes upon locking/unlocking — It helps me know that my husband locks the door on his way to work every day, so I no longer have to get up from my office and check each time. The installation went pretty smoothly. There was one hiccup but after enlarging the borehole slightly with a tool my husband had on hand (and we don’t have many), we were smooth sailing. All in it took about 40 minutes from opening the box to fully installed and functioning; totally worth it. The accompanying key cards are convenient too — We’ve given one to my brother-in-law who lives nearby to treat as his “spare key.” He hasn’t had to use it yet, but we’re glad he has that access. Even though we got it for that specific backdoor situation, I’m considering buying one for the front door now too - Makes coming and going so much easier.

I’ve always hated the bulky look of smart locks and was so happy to have found one that can keep the aesthetic of our home. The unboxing was a great experience, no weird plastic to cut, as usually we are struggling for a long time to open packaging. Setup was also easy and painless and this being the first lock I’ve setup on HomeKit was easier than my other smart locks. The instructions are clear and concise as well. It comes in a few colors so we were able to find a match to the rest of our handles and fixtures. The home automation is also a plus. Our lock auto locks when the last person leaves home and you can have the option of unlocking upon return (following your phone gps). You also have the option of carrying a hotel like keycard or can revert back to the old school keys that dinos used to use. We did buy an additional mounting plate since our door was a 2.25”, and once bought on website solved, so measure your door plates to be sure. My wife is an engineer so it’s not easy to get her approval, and she gave it a thumbs up.

Phenomenal door lock! Perfect for our family of 6 with all of us coming and going all the time. No more getting locked out or having to leave the door unlocked. Level lock looks beautiful, is simple to install and now we never have to worry about being locked out of our house again. So many ways to give access to the kids and then we can also see when they get home/leave home. I would 100% recommend this lock. Genius and so smart! It even integrates with my Ring doorbell system or my Apple HomeKit, which gives me so many options.

As a Total tech membership i got free installation and service which makes the things easy..When it come functionality the usage of key is method 1 to open the door which is traditional purpose and this is good and strong ..next method using with mobile with certain distance from home which works perfectly fine and it is completely remote like opening the lock from office etc the app is limited to distance which i am not aware while purchasing the item..Method 3 with the card which works fine as expected and we get 2 cards for primary and secondary usage

This door lock it’s everything I was looking for. The installation was fast and easy, it’s super compatible with my home apps and looks good. On the app, I can set up multiple ways to get it open or close from anywhere with my cellphone, or I can also use the card key, the regular key, or my finger. love it!

I got this smart lock for my mom who lives alone and keeps locking herself out of her house as she gets older. Just received the product and it looks super high quality. The packaging is also pretty great! I will re-review after I install at my mom’s! I’m very excited for her to be able to get in and out of her home without needing to reach for her hidden planter keys!

----- Summary ----- Verdict: If you are looking for an easy-to-install smart lock that does not compromise the aesthetic of your home, the Level Lock – Touch Edition should be at the top of your list. It is not perfect, but the everyday convenience and reliable performance go a long way. Pros: - Easy installation and app setup - Sleek design, like a traditional lock - Reliable performance - Touch, key card (NFC), and auto-locking/unlocking - Yearlong battery life - Supports Apple HomeKit Cons: - Accidental touch activations - Smaller strike plate sold separately - Does not support Google Home ----- Details ----- Design: What I find most impressive about the Level Lock - Touch Edition is that it looks like a traditional lock. Hiding its smarts inside of the door is brilliant because that eliminates the need for a bulky device on the outside and makes the lock easy to install. The included battery, which is said to last about a year, cleverly resides in the deadbolt and is easy to access when the time comes to change it. I was happy to see that a matte black color was available because I will be changing my front door’s handle to a matching matte black. I like the color, and the finish seems scratch-resistant. The sleek and elegant exterior of the Level Lock disguises its high-tech and innovative interior. Thanks to Level, you do not have to sacrifice aesthetics to have a smart lock. Installation & Setup: Just a screwdriver was all I needed to install the Level Lock. No power tools or wires to deal with. The instructions were easy to follow, and I was done with every step (except the installation of the strike plate) in about 15 minutes. I was not initially able to install the strike plate because the one included in the box was significantly taller than my existing cutout in the doorframe, and the previous lock’s strike plate was not compatible. I might have been able to enlarge the cutout, but not without compromising the structural integrity of the wood, so I decided to order the shorter strike plate from Level’s website. I am disappointed that the shorter strike plate was not included with the lock because it added inconvenience and time to an otherwise quick and easy installation process. For such a premium, well-designed product, not including an inexpensive part that some customers need seems like a miss on Level’s part. As for the mobile app setup (available for iOS and Android), it was quick and easy like the installation. There is not much to the app, which I appreciate because that makes it simple and easy to navigate. Within a couple of minutes, the lock was paired, and I was able to customize the settings as well as share access with my wife. Features & Performance: As in the name, one key feature of the Level Lock - Touch Edition is its ability to be locked or unlocked just from touching it. This feature is activated when your phone is in range, so there is no fingerprint sensor involved. It works very well, maybe even too well because there have been a couple of occasions when I accidentally brushed against it with my arm or elbow on my way out which extended the deadbolt before I closed the door. I suppose I would rather have it be too responsive than not responsive enough, so overall the touch feature works well. An alternative to the touch to unlock feature is auto-unlock which automatically unlocks the Level Lock when you cross into your home boundary. For both the touch to unlock and auto-unlock features, geofencing is used to know when you leave the area and return. It operates that way for obvious reasons. You would not want touch to unlock or auto-unlock to work anytime your phone is within range (e.g., while you are sleeping) because that defeats the purpose of the lock. There is also an auto-lock feature that can be engaged anywhere between 30 seconds and an hour after unlocking. I find this to be especially useful when I come home with my hands full and cannot manually turn the lock on my way in (the touch feature only works from the outside). In these cases, it is nice that I do not have to drop off everything and go back to the door to lock it or try to remember later in the day because I know it will automatically lock after my set amount of time. A few other ways the Level Lock can be accessed is the two physical keys and two hotel-like access cards included in the box. My wife and I carry the access cards in our wallets as backups to the mobile app controls, but they are also easy to share with guests who often prefer the cards over keys. If you use Apple HomeKit like me, I think you will be happy to know that the Level Lock integrates with HomeKit and works well. Having HomeKit integration enables additional features like locking/unlocking with Siri and running automations. I do wish the Level Lock integrated with Google Home though because I have a few of those devices in my home. Unfortunately, Google Home is not supported at the time of this review. That and the occasional accidental touch activations of the lock aside, the convenient and reliable features of the Level Lock – Touch Edition make accessing and securing my home effortless, so I am very pleased.

I previously had a different brand smart lock that worked well, but it was bulky and very obvious on our front door. This lock is a significant improvement when it comes to the aesthetics and looks of it, as well as the functionality. This lock looks and works like a regular lock, but also provides smart features which is really nice. The number of options for unlocking the Level Lock are impressive. You can unlock and lock it with a regular key and inside by hand, you can also unlock and lock it using the Level app, Apple Home app, using programmable hotel-like NFC key cards, and by touching the lock with your finger. This definitely has to be one of the best locks when it comes to options for unlocking and locking it. The installation process for me was unfortunately quite difficult. The person who originally installed the locks on our door had not fully chiseled back the wood where the lock mechanism plate sits (piece facing the wall where the lock bolt locks the door). The wood was only thinly chiseled back and so when I put the Level locking mechanism in, it was not flush with the door and was sticking out some. While the door could still shut fine, the lock mechanism was not going into the door hole far enough so I could put the second piece on that connects to it inside the door hole. After much trouble with this, I went to a hardware store and got a wood chisel and was able to chisel back the right amount of space for the lock mechanism to sit flush and stick in the door enough for me to properly install the second piece. Assuming your original lock was installed properly, the installation process should be very easy and straightforward. In my case, my previous smart lock was much easier to install because it was installed on top of my main lock components. Hopefully this is not an issue that most people will encounter. Also, this lock requires a special strike plate that goes into your wall due to the size of the lock bolt. Most normal strike plates are too small for the bolt to fit, so a new strike plate is included with the product. In my case, the strike plate provided was longer than what came with my lock. In order to install it, I would either need to chisel more wood away to fit it, or, you can order a shorter strike plate from Level for $10. It seems to me that they should have included both size strike plates with the products. Seems a bit much to now have to go online and order a $10 strike plate just to complete the installation of this product. The touch feature in particular is a really nice feature because when you are leaving home, you can quickly lock your door by touching the lock itself, and you can unlock your door the same way after arriving home. One thing I did encounter with the touch is you can’t just tap the lock to get it to lock or unlock, you have to hold your finger on it for a few seconds and then it will unlock or lock. The touch capability works with the Level app and will only allow you to unlock the lock by touch when the app has detected that you have arrived home after being away from home. This is a good security measure to ensure that just anyone can’t go and touch the lock to get into your house. This is a really nice feature that makes locking and unlocking the door so easy. Compared to my previous smart lock, this lock is both more compact and visually appealing, and it is also better when it comes to batteries. My previous smart lock required 4 AA batteries that I had to change pretty often (every 2-3 months). Level says that the battery on this device will last around 1 year, and it only needs 1 lithium CR2 battery which is small and very easy to replace. To replace the battery, all you have to do is open your door and put the lock in the lock position. Then you can quickly and easily unscrew the cap at the end of the lock bolt to change out the battery. While this lock looks more appealing and normal compared to other smart locks, the brass lock I received has some components that do not match the brass color. The locking mechanism that faces the wall and has the lock bolt is silver, not brass. Additionally, the outer facing part of the lock where the key hole is has a big round gray piece rather than a matching brass colored piece. The strike plate that sits on the wall where the lock bolt goes into is also silver. Seems very odd that these parts are silver/gray, especially since you can see them when the lock is installed. I’m sure they match well with the silver lock, but not so much with brass. Level should have matched all outside facing parts with the brass color. This lock supports Apple HomeKit and can also be integrated with some Ring Doorbells which is great. Very impressed with all of the capabilities and features of this lock. Throughout my usage of this product, I found the touch feature to be a really useful and helpful feature and overall the lock looks good and operated well. Controlling it through the home app worked well and the features within the Level app provide for a great experience and plenty options for changing settings and getting the most out of the device. I did have issues on a few occasions where if the door was pressed too hard against the wall, the product could jam and then I had trouble getting it to re-attempt unlocking by touch after fixing the door position. Sometimes in that case, I had to unlock it with a key or the via the Level or Apple Home apps. I also am a bit disappointed in the lack of color matching on some parts of this product. I would expect a product at this price range to be fully color matched. I also wish the installation on this had been easier. While my situation may not be very common, I’m sure others could run into the issues I did. Would have been nice if this product had been a little more flexible as far as fitting in the door for installation, or, it would have been helpful for Level to have provided information on potential issues and solutions when installing the product and running into situations like I did. Overall, this is a great smart lock. I am impressed with all the options it has to unlock it, and its design and ease of battery replacement makes it a great product. Despite a few of the issues I did point out with installation and the color match of this product, I think that overall it is a great lock and definitely one of the best available, thus I am giving it 5 stars.

More often than not, when I'm entering my house I'm loaded down with either grocery packages, dogs on a leash, or worse yet, dirty hands from working in the garden, making fumbling for keys a difficult chore. So I was anxious to install the Level Touch to make my life just a little bit easier. As far as installation, it's pretty much the same as replacing any standard deadbolt. The only difference is that the provided strikeplate has an opening slightly wider than standard to accommodate the circular shaped bolt of the touch. That shouldn't be a problem for most, in my case, the existing strike plate was longer, so the new one wouldn't have had enough solid wood to grab the new screws. What I did was to take my Dremel and slighty round the opening of the strikeplate to match the diameter of the provided one. (see photo). Most of you won't have to do this, it was just particular to my case. The next step is to download the app, and sync the lockset to your phone. Once downloaded, the app requested a software update to the device which took 2 or 3 minutes and went without incident. I then matched the provided keycards to the lockset, and it was ready to go. So you might wonder why then I only rated it as 3 stars. The problem is it's because of a feature that's not highlighted in the product description. That feature is called a geofence. It maps an area roughly 1/8 mile around your home. If you exit your home, lock your door, and don't leave the 1/8 mile geofence barrier, the touch feature is disabled. Took me awhile to figure this out; I had emailed support after the install, and I must say the support people were excellent, they just didn't have a solution to my problem. I asked if the geofence could be modified or disabled, and the answer is no. Let's say you take the dogs out for a walk and lock the door. When you come back, you will not be able to touch the lock to open. It's back to the keys (or keycard). Going to visit with the neighbor? Same thing - no touch entry. I understand their logic here. It's about security. If the product was not geofenced, if you left your house but were within bluetooth range of the lock, theoretically anyone could walk up, touch the lock, and the door would open. The lock operation gets complicated when you're working with more than 1 person. My wife also has the app on her phone. I leave the house leaving the door unlocked and go to the store. In the interim, she locks the door. If I look at my app, it gives the status as unlocked. I come home, thinking it's unlocked, and it's locked. Thing is, the once you're out of bluetooth range, the app will not update lock status. I'd have to look at my phone walking up to the door to see if the door was locked or unlocked. Given our lifestyle, the Level Touch proved to be more of an annoyance than an assistance. Now, this might not be the same for you. I can see if you were leaving to go to work for the day, and coming back home at night, this would work for you. I also see that this product works with Homekit; however, we are Android, not Apple users. I was told by support that they are working on more features, but at this point, it's no help to me. What I am going to do is uninstall the lock and move it to a less used door in the house. In its defense, I will state that the mechanics and finish of the product are high quality. It's not the mechanism that I have fault with, it's the software preventing me from using it for it's intended purpose. I'll be looking to see if they're able to update the app to be more accommodating to my needs.

Thank you for this thoughtful review on your new Level Lock - Touch Edition. We’d love to offer some suggestions to address your concerns.

In regards to expanding your geofence range - for security reasons, Touch-To-Unlock cannot be performed without the user exiting and re-entering the Home Boundary. This boundary ensures that the lock won't respond to a random touch while you are home. For times when you are getting the mail or going to the neighbors, a Key Card would be a great solution. It’s small and lightweight, so you won’t even know you’re carrying it.

Alternatively, you could set up Auto-Unlock, so you won’t have to look at your phone to check the status of your lock. Upon approach, the bolt will automatically retract. To learn more on how to set up Auto-Unlock, visit https://level.co/support/articles/360053357593

Lastly, in addition to Apple HomeKit, Level Lock - Touch Edition works with Amazon Alexa and Ring (a HomeKit hub or Sidewalk enabled device required). We are continuing to build out our home platforms integrations, and are working on several new and exciting ways for you to access your home securely.

    Great Smart Lock Upgrade

I installed the Level Lock smart lock in our back door, we already have a smart lock installed on our front door. The Touch Edition was the perfect solution because our handle / knob was separate from the lock. If you're looking for a lock that's connected to the handle, then the Level Lock Touch Edition isn't what you're looking for. We wanted something that would work with Apple's HomeKit setup, due to security and privacy concern. We also wanted something we could unlock easily, and allow for guest access. We opted for the black color, as it was the closest to our darker bronzed door knob. The Touch Edition kit comes with: - Full deadbolt replacement - 2 keys - 2 Level key cards - Replacement strike plate Replacing our old deadbolt with the Level Touch Edition took less than 10 minutes. Simply remove the existing lock and strike plate and install the new lock and strike plate. From there, it was a simple task of downloading the Level app and linking it with HomeKit. The battery that comes with the Level Touch hides nicely inside the deadbolt. That means that, even if the network goes down, or the battery dies, the lock will still work using the provided keys. The only real oddity that I've observed is that if the deadbolt doesn't detect a full deployment, the Home app will show the lock as "Jammed", even though the Level app shows the door is locked.

    Best Smart Lock Out there!

I have to say, this is the nicest looking lock we have owned. It matches our other hardware perfectly! You can't even tell it's a smart lock, and it's extremely great quality. I had braced myself for installation, but it was surprisingly extremely easy to install. What I really love about the lock is the effortless access. Because all my keys look the same, I usually have to juggle my keys around to find the right key to the right lock. With the level lock, all I have to do is lock/unlock by touching it! Definitely great when I have my hands full with my toddler and pup (not to mention diaper bag and groceries)! The app is also super easy to use. We have two stories, and we always set our alarm before we go to bed via our alarm system app, but would have to run downstairs to make sure the front door was dead-bolted. Now, we can lock the door from our bedroom using the Homekit thru our apple tv, and we don't have to run downstairs anymore! This is definitely one of the best locks out there, and I'm going to purchase more for our other units.

This doorbell is awesome, when it works… I love the touch feature and having a key card for entry options, but the touch feature fails often. I will say using the key card never fails, just annoying to make sure it touches the correct spot on the card to unlock. The app is also very lackluster. I have to restart my app every time I get home to get the lock to connect and unlock. I also have range boost enabled & it’s supposed to know whenever I get home to allow the touch to unlock feature & that works about 5/10 times. It does not allow you to control your lock whenever you are not within range of the lock (at least in my experience). It doesn’t matter how many times I have restarted the app and tried to control my lock whenever I am not home & it never has worked. I believe this is supposed to be a feature of the product as well, so sad that doesn’t work. Overall, it’s decent. I picked it up on clearance at my local store for 99 bucks, so I can’t be mad at it for that price.

While this lock is easy to install it is not very reliable. You need to have a Ring bridge item for it to work. It does connect to my wifi but works sporadically. Most of the time when I try to unlock it with my Android phone it will not unlock even if I am standing right next to it. I have replaced the battery twice so far and each time it will work for a few times and then it just quits. The weird thing I have found is that I can lock it by touch when I leave my home but when I get home and touch it to unlock it there is no response and I end up using the key. I have tried over and over to no avail. The even weirder thing is, it works fine with my wife's Apple phone but not with my Android. I only keep it because she can use it. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that this doesn't look like your average keypad on your front door. (that comes separately and can be installed on the side) BUT! This lock is bluetooth, does NOT have wifi in the lock itself. In order to use app while more than 20 feet away you must have a separate source, like an apple tv or home hub to speak to via wifi and then that device can talk to lock via bluetooth. VERY confusing! Had 2 different geek squad guys come out & neither had any idea... they thought the lock was broken. Level support was difficult to reach but once we finally got someone on the phone, they explained the situation yo us.

I’ve been looking for a smart lock for a long time. Every other product in the market is bulky and ugly. This smart lock is so well designed, really easy to install and really easy to setup. Build quality is fantastic and the mechanism is just genius! People will never think you have an smart lock if you don’t tell them!!

Got just the motor first, but it wasn't compatible with my lock (mine is a cross). So got this at a discount and just installed it. So far it works well, at least the app does. I tried out the cards and they don't work, need to look into that. Also, I understood it could link via bluetooth to my echo show but it seems it needs a bridge now. I won't be spending more money on that, but the current functionality is fine.
