Great TV With Awesome Features

I spent a lot of time looking at different brands. The required features in my mind were 4K, 65" size and 3D. My budget was under $2,000. I almost decided on Samsung or Sony. They are all good brands. The deciding factor was the Harmon Kardon speakers which give you better sound for a thin TV and also the "Magic Remote" which is like a laser beam controlling the various menus. I had a friend mount this great TV in the middle of the family room wall with no wires showing. Bought a couple of new love seats to give us extra seating and we now have a great entertainment room! I'm really happy with the TV from LG. The 3D is awesome too. I'd recommend this Tav to anyone!

Great TV But Not Without Its Flaw

If you read my other reviews you know that I bought this TV, it had backlighting issues, I exchanged it for a Samsung SUHD which had an even more distracting backlighting issue along with a host of other problems, and then exchanged that for this same set (different serial numbers but same model and features). Here's my review.
This LG has excellent picture quality and excellent upconversion from 1080p to 4K. The upconversion, sound, and viewing angle is far better than the Samsung, not to mention the LG was $1,000 cheaper. The magic remote (very Wii-like) is pretty cool but we use our cable remote for the most part and it doesn't come into play much. It was easy to set up and after adjusting the picture settings to Consumer Reports' specifications, we were pretty smitten with what we were seeing.
In my opinion, the only thing the Samsung had over the LG was the 3D performance. The LG does well, but Active 3D (Samsung) is always better than Passive 3D (LG) in eliminating ghosting and improving 3D viewing angle. You can watch a movie using Active 3D from just about anywhere in the room. A movie watched using Passive 3D can't be watched from above or below the screen without significant ghosting or picture distortion - your eyes need to be at the level to which screen is projecting. But active is also harder on the eyes and can leave you with a headache after long periods of use. My wife preferred the LG TV's Passive 3D for that reason - no headache or eye strain. Plus, even though they've come down in price considerably over the years, active glasses are still at least twice as expensive as passive glasses.
Now to the one glaring flaw that, as I've read more about this new generation of TV's in various periodicals and online sites, seems to be a widespread problem with bigger 4K sets. BACKLIGHTING ISSUES. I feel this is now an unavoidable flaw with this next generation of TV's. This LG has a couple of vertical bands that can be seen during certain scenes with lighter colors and camera movements. The bands are lighter and less distracting than the afforementioned Samsung, but they are present nonetheless. I've learned to live with it as if my favorite movie theater had a couple of small seams running vertically in its silver screen. I don't see them all the time, but then that perfect combination of color and motion present themselves and I'm reminded my $2,000 TV isn't perfect. The Samsung, which was $1,000 more expensive, had the same problem and was much worse in all other important areas, so I'm satisfied with the purchase. And like I said, several publications noted that these TV's have backlighting issues. Not sure if a software update is capable of fixing that kind of problem, but the LG's other qualities are leaving me satisfied.
Bottom line, I would recommend this to a friend who was looking to buy right now, but would provide them with the knowledge that the 4K revolution is still young and they are still working out all of the kinks. If you're willing to wait, they may have these bugs worked out by the time you simply have to have one.

Awesome TV and Great Price

I've been enjoying my LG 4K 65" 3D TV(model 65UF8500)now since 11/28 and I absolutely love it! Replaced a Sony Wega 50" that was 10 years old. I had researched this tv and all of its bells and whistles last year, but at the time, it was out of my price range. Broke my heart but I continued to visit Best Buy and look at it as well as continuously watching their ads for price cuts. Then my old Sony decided one night to blow the LCD lamp, and of course I went to Best Buy where my dream tv was on sale for 1899 which later dropped to 1699! Best Buy is awesome about price matching and I was thrilled to finally own the TV that I had wanted for a year :) Let me just say that if you are going to invest in this TV, I highly recommend you get the 3-D model. I know there is one that is not 3-D capable but viewing movies in Blu-ray 3-D is an absolute must. You can even switch to 3-D on regular television programming to give your shows more depth. Don't get me wrong, the 2-D picture quality is just as breathtaking, I just happen to be a big fan of 3-D. The color and the picture quality is bar none. High definition channels, especially watching football games, is a true joy with this TV. I know that I moved up in the world of technology from my Sony to this LG but still, I had many other TVs to choose from and after researching I still went back to this TV over and over again. I have read many complaints about bleeding from the corners of the TV. I have watched movies and television shows in the dark, in a fully lit room, with lots of scenes with black and darkness and I do not see any light bleeding through anywhere. The blacks are rich and deep and the colors are rich and bright. Also, if you are afraid to move up to a 65 inch television I just want to say that even in my small living room area moving up from a 50 inch to this TV I don't notice anything extreme in the picture clarity. It's clear no matter how far you sit away from or close to or at what angle you view the TV. It also has the thinnest bezel on a television that I have ever seen. It's virtually amazing how thin the TV set is! On using the smart TV features, they are very easy to navigate through and it's great to be able to access the Internet on a big screen like this one. I also highly recommend that you have the Geek Squad deliver the TV and set it up for you. They are absolutely wonderful and professional in every way. They will walk you through the basics of the TV and set up the remote for you and it's just much safer in my opinion to have them deliver the television then to try to squeeze it into a vehicle and risk damaging it. In conclusion I just want to say that the other reason I recommend this television is because of the quality of LG products. They have great customer service and they really stand behind whatever they make. If you are on the fence about this, you won't go wrong with Best Buy or the LG 4K TV!

So Far, So Good: Smart Buy on a Smart TV

After closely examining numerous flat panel TVs that are in the upper end, I purchased this panel. It is stylish, minimal in design aesthetics (sleek), and includes many of the features that I sought. Among them: 4K capabilities, 3-D, audio remote, smart TV with internet capabilities. The internet capabilities are really great as the audio work with Google, weather, etc. Too kool! For the money, this is a GREAT TV. I picked it up for $1,799 in May, when it was on sale for $2,200. (The price will likely drop throughout the remainder of 2015, but right now, I feel as though I got a best buy!) Shopping around, Best Buy came out the lowest (but only thru price matching with Dell). None the less, they matched the price and I feel like I won! Given screen dynamics, it is on par with Samsung's 8000 series and has a far wider angle of viewing due to the manufacturing process. It's really a trade off... buy a Samsung 8000 series if you can tolerate a narrow viewing angle but want greater contrast, buy the LG 8550 series if you demand wide angle viewing AND audio control of TV and Internet. Purchase the warranty on Square Trade for half the price of Best Buy's warranty. All in all, this is a smart buy on a Smart TV.

Good TV, but not perfect

I looked for 2 years to get a TV with all the features I wanted. LG has the best look, 3D, 4K, and reasonable priced of all I researched. Having dealt with Samsung customer service in the past for my parents, I vowed not to do that again. Also, as I looked around my house, I noticed that I had slowly become an LG & Apple fan.
This TV has some cool features & has the easiest set up I have ever seen. It easily connects to the net, has apps, and the 3D feature is easy to use with a very clean/crisp picture. The picture is great (most the time – see below). The remote works great & has the ability to control your cable box. It can even pull an “LG version” of the guide up & tune to the station. (Though, since I moved to a local cable provider, TDS, it is not working. Great concept though. I suspect DirecTV, Dish, & Comcast people will be fine.)
Cons: The dual play, though cool, only stretches the screen during viewing. It gets annoying after the novelty wears off. The TV only comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses. Seeing as how this TV is nearly $3000 at 65” and the glasses are inexpensive, I’d expect 2 more pair. The biggest complaint I have that put me borderline on returning it are the gray spots seen in the corners when watching movies or an occasional TV show. Each corner has a gray cloud and does not get very black. I have seen the cloud during most movies & even while watching the Big Bang Theory. Once you spot it, it is hard “not to see it”. I called LG. They said it was rare to see this. So, I returned it & got another. Well….it is still there. Not as much so, but still there. If it bothers you to see this over the next 10 years daily, then buy another TV.

We started with a Sony 65" 850C and it had a great pic but the 3D was an issue. After 4 tries at the right glasses, we finally ended up with the Sony glasses (most expensive out there) and it still didn't work. At that point we figured it was something on the TV. Best Buy was super fantastic to work with. We went to the store and picked the LG65UF 8500. The biggest reason was the passive 3D. We wanted to be able to get a cheap pair of glasses so if we sat on one we wouldn't have to take out a loan to replace it. They brought the TV out and set it all up and made sure it all worked. The TV has an awesome picture and the 3D is amazing. We watched the new planet of the aps movie and at times jumped out of our chairs, it was great. The TV is super easy to work and the magic remote is pretty cool. So far so good on this TV, I'm glad this is the one we ended up with.

Best upgrade for the money

My experience so far with the TV has been nothing but positive right now I have had it for a week and has been so good.
Display
Now it has the IPS panel with 240Hz tru motion and is 4K it also has passive 3D which makes it so easy and is easy on the eyes compared to active which gave me headaches this one doesn't. Now the setting do have some depth to it but if you want stock settings use standard it is kind of in the middle definitely has a lot of potential in the settings but for now this will work.
Design
The design is flawless great look the matte finish of the screen is great use to have a glossy with my Samsung but was a magnet for dust and cat hair. minimal cords for setup.
Sound and 4K
The sound from the stock harman/kardon speakers that are integrated to the TV by far some of the best great for the size. But still recommend a sound bar later the stock speakers are fine if you don't have the money. The reason we all are look at this beast the 4K the up-scaling does a great job of making it look great. I have a toshiba bdx5500 and with the 4k blurays the picture is as good as it gets.
Features
The web OS my favorite feature of this TV the seamless action of moving between on thing to another I have used plenty of different one and this is one is by far the best it so easy to setup. My kids and wife got use to it and use to all the features on the TV. I would recommend getting a broadband speed of 15 Mbs minimum so that you can stream all that beautiful 4k content from youtube and netflix but would recommend to also look at getting a bluray with an upscale.
Overall
The reason that I gave it a 5 is because overall for the price and what you are getting out of it I believe it is truly worth every penny I had the samsung un55es8000 that was a flagship tv and the evolution kit didn't work out right and wifi went out after less than a year but I will say picture was beautiful especially after a few tweaks to the settings. Now not saying there are better ones out there but I am not going to spend that much and it truly is a great buy.
P.S. about the lighting issue there was none on mine. I do notice the difference between the full array and edge lit but once again for the price was not a bad deal.

LG vs Samsung vs Sony 4K

I really did my homework when it came to this TV. I have always been a Samsung fan and typically buy the best TV every time new tech comes out. I chose LG because it has 10 Bit color, real 240 Hz processing, 3D, Quad Core processor and great internet. Sony and Samsung were both 120 Hz and have Clear Motion Rates that are confusing and not really consistant. LG does not pixelate and the picture is amazing especially the 4K upscaling. Can't see the pixels up close. Only draw back is that it only has 3 HDMI slots, but other than that, it was a home run.

Excellent picture, 3D works great and it is very easy navigate through the features and menus. Regular programming clarity is outstanding with the upscaling, can only imagine how much better actual 4K programs will be. Viewing angle is also much better than other brands I looked at and ability to use low cost passive 3D glasses is a plus.

I did a lot of research on this TV before I bought it. I knew what I was getting well in advance. I have always been sold on LG tv' sand this one is keeping me loyal to the brand. True colors, the 4k is incredible, 3D is pretty sweet as well. I haven't had much time to play with that option yet though. The smart functions all work great. The only small nit pick I would have is that there isn't a way to fine tune the colors. The presets are incredible as is, I just like to play with them on my own if given the chance. I am constantly taken back by the resolution capability of this LG. I love how every show I have ever seen looks completely different and so much better. Overall, this TV is well worth the money. I would buy this one again.

2ND Day 2ND LG

I ordered a LG 65 Inch 3D 8500 for 1699 on the eve of Thanksgiving. My wife received the TV on the following Tuesday. She didn't notice the discoloration of the screen or lack of black balance. When I came home I also didn't notice how bad the gay shadows were on the outside of the screen. I immediately started calibrating and playing with the settings . To check out all the features. I knew that LCD's and LED's have some backlit shadowing around the edges but after a few hours it had increased. I went upstairs for a few minutes and my wife ran to come tell me that the TV had gone black. With the sound still playing. I unplugged and restarted the TV and I noticed that 2/5 of the screen was covered in a grayish cloud. The whole right side. The LG blackout a second time and I knew it wasn't going to be a calibration fix. Boxed it up, called The Geek Squad and returned it the next day. I had planned on going with a Samsung this time but I favor WEB OS over Tizen or Samsung TV os. The LG 3D and 4k was beautiful. So i exchanged for another unit. The Price had went up by 200-300 dollars. After the Black friday sale. If you purchase a TV from Best Buy get the Insurance . Just in case you get a lemon. So far my LG 65,4k,3D isnning and looking great. I hope it will last the family for years to come.

Love the webos 2.0 and the remote controller. It does the basic Verizon FiOS controller functions. But the best part is the button that when pressed will display a full function FiOS remote controller on the TV. The webos is easy to use and the controller mouse like capability makes it that much easier to use. The TV quality is great, and yes definitely an upgrade to HD. The 3D is fantastic. I love the passive 3D. The glasses are cheap (or free when you bring them from the theater).

is hard to beat. Overall price is fair for the product and system. I highly recommend.

Nowadays it is very difficult to simply purchase a TV. You really have to understand Smart TV technology and what additional equipment is required to complete your Home Theater System. I tried to do all the required research necessary to make good decisions on products and believe me it wasn't easy. I did everything online and fortunately Best Buy Chat representatives and The Geek Squad helped me get everything done perfectly. I purchased the LG brand based on other Best Buy purchasers' comments and national consumer reports I found online. I definitely will never buy another Samsung TV because the 61-Inch I previously had suffered a Digital Mirroring Device (DMD) malfunction a month after my 4-year warranty expired. It was like my TV got acne!! I went online and found that everyone who purchased this particular model of the Samsung 61-inch flat TV had the same problem and Samsung was insensitive to satisfying the customer complaints regarding the defect. Customers like myself had to pay for both the DMD replacement part and for the labor cost which were very expensive. My LG seems to be the answer now and I love the 3D screen with inexpensive passive glasses. The image is crystal clear and perfect! LG allowed me to bring the movie theater experience into my home!

This is my first 3D TV, and I love it! The ultra high definition 3D TV makes it feel like I'm at a cinema. I like how it is passive 3D, so the glasses don't require batteries like active 3D requires. It can go from 2D to 3D as you wish, but things look better if it is programmed to be 3D. I really like the remote, which is like a Wii remote in that it has a pointer that moves around on screen as you move the remote. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to upgrade/have a movie theater experience at home. I was told by a best buy employee that LG is very similar to Samsung as far as quality goes, and Samsung is much more expensive, so that might help when trying to decide between the two.

The good: The picture is very bright and crisp with good color and contrast. The 4k upscaling is smooth and looks very good.
The average: The remote control is not for everyone. This thing requires a steady hand and can be a little frustrating. The HDMI control probably works better with an all LG lineup in the home theater. I have a Yamaha Aventage receiver and Samsung Blu-ray. For some reason when poering on the TV, the HDMI control automatically switches to Blu-Ray and powers up the player.
The not so good: The manual/directions are non-existent. The layout isn't as intuitive as say an Apple product. There is very little information regarding some of the more advance features such as 4k upscaling and ARC.
