They are comfortable, sound good, app works fine for me, and the case connecting to non BT devices works better than I imagined. I am able to connect to my work computer and take calls which is far better than the very uncomfortable overhead set I was provided. The ear tips are thin and we’re making the set move around in my ear to the point of feeling loose. I replaced them with a set from my Beats Pro and They are working perfectly. No movement at all. The notifications option has not been working with my IPhone and I hope I’m doing something wrong because I’ve gotten really used to having Siri read my messages to me. And the touchpads with really well. Oh and the price was super great!!! Caught them during a great sale.

Watched a review of these on YouTube after never hearing about them and decided to buy them and give them a try. Had them for two weeks so far and love them. Quality is great, battery life is really good and these things are very tiny and discreet. Highly recommend trying them out! I own about all the premium wireless headsets out there and these are in my top three for everyday pair to use. The App is also a big plus and allows full customization of the earbuds. Try them out i dont think you will be disappointed.

I never write reviews but I’m really impressed with these jawnz. The sound is incredible very balanced with enough bass if you twerk the eq right. Personally have mine set on 3d sound stage and iOS music eq on flat. They don’t fall out the ear, sometimes I fall asleep with them on.the cleaning works and it may seem gimmicky but using the case to change anything to Bluetooth like a treadmill does come in handy. I’m a geek audiophile whatever u want to call it. I’ve had Sonys Bose and these are right up there.

This review is based on pairing with iPhone 13 Pro Max. I love these headphones. The sound is incredible, the case really does clean them, and LG inking a partnership with Meridian was the icing on the cake. Battery life is excellent, and they’re easy to clean (besides the UVNano). I haven’t tried using the case as a Bluetooth adapter for a Bluetooth-less product but I’m sure the functionality is good. The app (Tone Free) not needed is very beneficial and worth the download as well.

LG is killing it with these updated/upgraded, redesigned version of the Tone Free line. Had the FN4 and FN7 before and while I mostly enjoyed them... the sound was lacking to me. These have updated drivers, a smaller form factor even to the AirPods Pro and and neat feature for Bluetooth Transmission from the Case. What I am enjoying the most is the very comfortable and and relaxed fit, accompanied with pleasing balanced sound and still carrying enough bass to be a dynamic and "fun" sound! These are not beats, nor jbl or skullcandy with muddied bass... no! these actually sound good, are they the best? no but they will get the job done

If you're looking for the absolute best sound out of your music for under 200 bucks, it really doesn’t get better than this. These things have such a natural, clean bass without being overbearing or artificial. Their active noise cancelation is insanely effective, but the sound clarity doesn't drop whatsoever if you turn the noise canceling off. The driver size of the earbuds allows for a much clearer and deep quality of audio, you're literally hearing more of the music because of its insane range. I was blown away by the sound quality of these jawns, for real. Though as a side note, the functionality of the app that comes with them can be a bit wonky at times but for the most part is easy to use.

2 month with normal use. Used it on 2 international trips that were both 9 hours in length oneway. The Bluetooth true wireless feature with constant use get roughly 4hrs until battery is completely depleted from charge base unit. Just recently notice the right earbud casing was coming apart at the seem which was unfortunate. It did not compromise the audio quality but I made a claim with the manufacturer amd sent it out with hopes they can resolve the issue. Good product when it works. Just surprised that will only 2 months of normal use at the price point that I purchased it at, you would think the quality would hold up much better.

If you are looking for a set of good-sounding noise cancellation earbuds, then you are in luck; the market is full of them. It seems like every electronics vendor has something that they use to set them apart from the rest of the market. The LG TONE Free brings some nice things to differentiate them, but is it enough? /Comfort/ One of the first things that any brand needs to get right out of the box is comfort. It doesn’t matter if everything is hit out of the ballpark if you can’t stand to keep them in your ears for more than a few minutes. Luckily, LG gets this one right. They slide into your ears, and you will more than likely forget about them after that. I used them around the house, and on a jog, there is some sliding and having to readjust them during the run, but I wasn’t worried about them falling off. You get the standard three different silicone ear tips in the box; I went with the larger ones in hopes of a better seal. //Sound// This part is a little tricky when trying to rate the LG TONEs. They sound clear, even at higher volumes. The soundstage is good, and the bass is noticeable but not overwhelming. I would have preferred for the bass to be a little punchier. They have a brighter sound signature, in my opinion. The tricky part is when you try to use their Active Noise Cancellation. I have a few other active noise cancellation headphones/earbuds, and I feel like the LG TONEs do a mediocre job of blocking out unwanted noise. I could still hear my wife on the treadmill in the next room, my kiddos arguing in their rooms, and other random noises when hanging out around my house with Noise Cancellation on. This was even after I attempted to change the silicone tips to get a better seal. Now, don’t get me wrong, it does block out a lot of noise, but if Noise Cancellation is your number one priority, then maybe look elsewhere. Ambient Sound mode is excellent and lets you hear everything around you and even has a neat feature that enables you to make Ambient mode focus on Voices or other noises around you, like if you are walking in a city or crowded area. Rounding all of this out is the ability to change the EQ. It comes with five presets and allows you to set 2 custom EQ settings. You can find all these settings and some other Lab features within the app. Setting these up on my Z Fold3 was a breeze; I installed the app first, and when I opened the case, a popup came up asking if I wanted to pair them to my phone. I was able to also pair them up on my iPhone in the traditional way, Bluetooth settings. ///TL: DR/// Comfort is excellent; you can wear them and completely forget about them. No ear fatigue even after hours of use. Music sounds excellent, podcasts and audiobooks also sound clear, especially with the Noise Cancellation. The sound is brighter, highs and mids stand out a bit more. They could be a little punchier in the lows. Luckily you get an EQ and can tweak the sound signature to your taste. The Ambient Mode is fantastic, and the Noise Cancellation mode is passable. They are IPX4 water and sweat-resistant, so you can use them for workouts if they fit your ears. Battery life is impressive at 10 hours, with the case being able to offer you a total of 24 hours. They pause and un-pause your music if you pull one of the earbuds out and can be used with just one earbud in your ear at a time. They offer a great way to plug in the actual case with the provided case into a headphone jack to allow you to use your earbuds with devices that don’t offer Bluetooth, like on a flight. Rounding out all these great features is that when the case is plugged in charging and your earbuds in there, they can disinfect your earbuds with their UVnano feature if you are worried about bacteria on your earbuds. These are feature-packed, with good sound, great ambient mode, and decent noise cancellation. They are an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a great comfortable pair of earbuds.

Good Fit and Audio but ANC can be lacking

I’ve been using these headphones when I jog and exercise and the fit and function are great. The audio quality is better than most when paired with the 3D Sound Stage equalizer on the LG Tone app. The ANC with the included ear gels is not so great because they are thin and let in too much outside noise. Performance: To get the best audio quality out of these headphones I had to turn on the 3D Sound Stage equalizer in the LG Tone App. The app has five preset equalizers and two that you can customize. I played with the customization but 3d Sound Stage also adds some “depth” to the sound quality which is more than you get from just the equalizer. Voice call quality for me was good but some people told me that they had to increase their volume to hear me. The earbuds have Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Ambient Sound options. The Ambient Sound setting lets you hear outside sounds so that you can be aware of your surroundings. The ANC was not that great because of the ear gels. The ear gels that come with the headphones are very thin and because of that they do not seal off outside noises very well. I have an air purifier in the room where I work and with it running on medium the ANC would reduce the motor sound by about 30%. I found some improvement by using the included largest ear gels but they were too uncomfortable to wear. When I replaced the stock ear gels with some 3rd party foam ear gels the quality of the ANC was substantial and cut the motor sound by at least 80%. In the end I decided to go back to the original ear gels and when I need high levels of ANC I will swap out the ear gels. In the LG Tone app there is a High and a Low ANC setting but I didn’t notice much difference so I keep mine on High. Fit and Function: The ear buds are light weight have a low profile so they reside mostly in your ear without looking unsightly. When I jog and work out they don’t move around much and because the ear gels are thin and flexible I didn’t hear any rubbing sound that I have gotten from other headphones. Each earbud has a control switch that is touch sensitive which is really nice because you don’t have to push anything to actuate it. Also the ear bud provides a clicking sound when you activate the switch so you get positive feedback when using them. The only downside is that you have to be aware of the switches when you are putting the earbuds in or when you adjust them because you can easily hit the switch inadvertently. In the LG Tone app you can configure the button functionality for both the right and left earbud for Media and Active Assistant but you cannot change the call control functions nor is there a Mute function for phone calls. The earbuds have auto pause capability when one of the earbuds are removed. They are IPX4 rated so they will handle sweat and moisture. The battery life is up to 10 hours per charge and up to 24 hours when combined with the case. The case is small and very portable. It has a USB-C charging port and there is a colored led on the case to show the battery level. When you open the case there are blue lights that turn on which can be helpful when removing the headphones in the dark. The case has UV lights that clean the ear gels when they are in the charging case. The LG Tone app has lots of features and controls but it can be a little buggy. At first it had trouble finding the earbuds but once it did it starting working problem free. Wired to Wireless Function: The headphone case can be connected to a non-Bluetooth device using the included USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack as show in the photo. You plug the audio jack into the component and then the USB-C into the case and then the case becomes a Blue Tooth transmitter for the headphones. Since most modern components support Bluetooth this is a limited use feature but it definitely makes these headphones unique.

    Wired AND Wireless Capability

Wireless earbuds have come a long way in the past few years, so it is not easy to stand out in a market saturated by high quality offerings. These LG Tone Wireless earbuds mange to do just that by featuring an innovative and versatile design. The main stand out feature they have is that they can be used with devices that don’t have Bluetooth capability. This is accomplished by connecting the case directly to the headphone jack of the device, and then the case becomes a Bluetooth transmitter. The earbuds are paired to the case, and your legacy device is now wireless! This is a brilliant option which would be especially useful on a flight if one is inclined to use the in flight entertainment system. To make this happen a USB-C to headphone jack cable is included in the box. These earbuds can be used without downloading the Tone App, but I highly recommend using the App. It works very well and enables numerous control capabilities that can only be accessed using the App. For example, there is a function to update the firmware which could be used to make future improvements. An equalizer is offered in the App so the sound can be adjusted to suit personal preference. Several EQ presets are available, as well as 2 custom EQ settings. I found the Tone App to be well designed and it makes controlling the earbuds very easy. One App feature that really stood out is the Find My Earbuds function. Using it I was able to get an exact location for the earbuds. The App can be used to change the earbud button operation from the default settings. A few different functions can be changed from the programmed 1, 2, 3 button press selections. They come with 3 tip sizes(small, medium, large), with the medium size being installed. I immediately noticed that much like these earbuds, the tips were on the small size. I was unable to get a tight seal with the medium size, and moved up to the large tip and that improved the sound quality. Creating a tight seal over your ear canal is crucial for earbud sound quality. Once I got a tight seal achieved using the necessary ear tip size, I found the sound quality to be very good. I experimented with the EQ settings and settled on the Immersive setting. Bass response is not as deep as some other earbuds I have used, but it is present and adequate. The ANC is not the most effective that I have used, but it does cut down on outside noises some. I hope that LG can improve the ANC somewhat in future updates. There is also an Ambient sound setting that uses a microphone to pass outside sound in. The call quality is quite good, and I was able to hear and be heard without any difficulty. The stability and range of the Bluetooth connection impressed me. When the case is opened the earbuds conveniently activate and connect. The Bluetooth connection is rock solid and out to about 50 feet. I am able to flawlessly connect to my Windows PC using Swift Pair. The left or right earbud can each be used individually. I am very glad manufacturers have started to move beyond the requirement that one earbud (usually the right one) be the primary. There are times, like when I am driving, that I want to use the left earbud only for GPS directions, while still being able to hear my passengers with my open right ear. The App also works with only one earbud connected, unlike some other earbud Apps that won’t function unless both earbuds are active. The battery life is excellent, and lasted me between 6 and 8 hours per charge using ANC. Battery life depends on volume level and whether the ANC is being used. It is rated to last up to 10 hours with the ANC off.The case is very compact and easy to fit in a bag or pocket. The earbuds magnetically seat in the case. Another unique capability that the LG Tone has is that the case has a built in UV light that is designed to sanitize your ear tips. UV light has been shown to be capable of killing bacteria. The UV light activates for 5 minutes only when the case is attached to a charger.

Make ANY Device Wireless + Solid Other Features

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

MAIN FEATURES: These have two unique features that separate them from the competition: 1. The ability to use Wireless Earbuds on EVERY device you own. Assuming it has 3.5 mm aux or Bluetooth. - It comes with a USB C to 3.5 aux cord. You plug the USB C into the UVnano case, flip the switch on the left side to tell them you are using it “wired”, plug the 3.5 mm aux into ANY device with 3.5 mm aux and then pull out the earbuds and you have wireless sound. - This by far is my favorite feature and works amazingly well. This is the main reason I was interested in these. 2. UVnano Case: Only when plugged in (for the first five minutes) of charging it will turn on an ultraviolet light to clean the speaker grills. This has shown to destroy 99.9% of bacteria. - It’s a neat feature. Even though I don’t really see the point. But I like clean so it’s a win in my book. - They probably only do it during charging for A. To preserve battery life. B. Safety. As UV light can be dangerous to eyes and skin. OTHER FEATURES: It comes with Noise Cancelling and Transparency Mode. From my testing and comparing it to my other wireless earbuds both the noise canceling, and transparency mode are average at best. It’s a nice additional feature to have. But not something you should buy these earbuds for. Microphone quality is above average. I found that it was able to register low end well, making my voice sound relatively natural. However, it was a bit muddy and congested meaning my vocals weren’t fully clear (if I’m being nitpicky). But it is perfectly suitable for calls. They sport an attractive design. The size of the earbuds is small. Making them very low profile. The ear tips are some of the best I’ve tried. They are very soft and malleable. Causing me zero irritation. However, I found the general fit of these to not be as good as others I’ve tried. But I’d still rate them as very comfortable. As I can wear them for a long period of time without issues. I’m just aware they are in my ear compared to others that I forget are in there. But this will vary from person to person. Controls are interesting. They are registered by touch over a physical button. Which I don’t like. It is very sensitive, so you don’t have to worry about it not registering. However, when adjusting the earbuds I found myself accidently clicking it almost every time. If you hold down the touch button it will turn on/off noise-cancelling/Transparency. If you quick press it will play/pause. Double press will increase or decrease volume depending on which earbud you press. Triple press will go to the next track. But they don’t support going to the previous track. Which I don’t like. There is a slight delay to all of these to fully register. But the forced feedback of the physical button is immediate, you know when you press it, when it registers, and is easy to multi-press. It DOES support single bud use with either bud. This feature works well where I can take just one out of the case and it will connect immediately or if I had two earbuds in, I can put one away and it will easily switch. Or take one out while using one to use both and they auto connected to each other quickly. I had no problems with any of it. If you remove an earbud from your ear it will auto pause. It does come with an app allowing you access to finer tune your settings and adjust your EQ if wanted. It’s a nice app. Case is small and compact. Good finish that will prevent scratches from appearing from normal everyday use in your pocket. Earbuds attach magnetically inside. As does the opening hatch. Opening hatch feels solid. It comes with a blue mood light that makes them look all futuristic. USB C for charging. I love it. Sound quality for most people will be great. I’d rate them above average but not great. But solid for wireless earbuds. Clear highs, mids, and lows. Lows are dependent on seal and how well they fit your ears. It’s not overpowering. Highs are clear and allow you to feel some of the emotion in them. Mids are fine. Small soundstage. Imaging is alright. They won’t be winning the award of best sounding on the market. But for the price I think they sound solid. CONCLUSION: These have other features I didn’t mention. But I think I hit the most important ones. This thing does everything well. It may not be the best of the best in multiple categories. But there isn’t anything that it does poorly. All the important things they do above average, especially for the price. And you get so many features for that price. But for me the main selling point is being able to plug them into any 3.5 mm aux port and then get wireless sound. Which is just such an amazing feature that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Along with the UVnano case cleaning them when charging. Even without these features I’d still recommend them at this price point.

These were great for 3 months. As I was taking the right bud out of my ear, it came apart into 2 pieces. It split right at the glue seam for the two halves. Now I have some non sticky gloop that is probably glue spilling out of it. I called LG support and they told me that it was physical damage and it was not covered by a warranty. I could send it to them and they would look at it for $20 and then they could fix or replace for additional money past that. I declined and will try to glue it myself or just buy the Sony which my wife has had for years and are still solid.

Good TWS Earbuds with Some Cool Features

Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my first pair of any LG TWS earbuds, so any previous iterations I can't compare, but in comparison I've owned Galaxy Buds, ADV Sound TWS, Jabras, even some Sabbat TWS. Most comfortable TWS earbuds I've used. They're extremely light. Case is small also, which downside is the charge it can hold is smaller than I'm used to. About 2-3 full charges before needing a recharge in my usage. Good news is it doesn't take too long to recharge the case. Does lack Qi charging on the case, but no biggie. Really need to have the right eartips to get these to sound good, otherwise if they're too small you'll get tingy bass due to a bad seal, or too large they'll be uncomfortable. I actually had to replace the included gel tips with some Spinfit TWS eartips that goes further into my ear canal. Another note on the fit - I now discovered I'll have to be wary of purchasing future TWS earbuds with a stem design. Because the way my ear and cheeks are shaped I find it I yawn or am chewing gum or food, the right earbud tends to slowly creep out of my ear, because the stem is being pushed away. This could just be specific to me, but it does affect my review. Audio is OK, not the best out there. Only SBC or AAC on-board, no Aptx or LDAC at this price?! Crazy... On my Galaxy s20+ using YT Music they sound just fine - not the best I've heard. Audio is clear and crisp. If you own or have owned a LG phone you know how clear the audio can be, especially when it comes to bass, which can be very tight, almost lacking any reverb. Using the LG Tone app, I prefer the Immersive setting. UV germ killing feature seems unnecessary to me. I've used many wireless earbuds, and never had any issues with ear infections or anything related. So this is just a gimmick to me - if that's what's driving the price up I could've lived without it. Ambient sound mode has 2 modes; one for surroundings, and one for conversations. Basically the surrounding one is for general outdoor usage to hear oncoming cars or hazards, conversation mode hightens the audio coming in to make it easier to hear voices. So basically ambient sound low and high. Noise cancelling on works well. You'll still hear loud sounds, they're just muffled. I haven't used these on a plane or during a car ride, but outdoors it does work well. This particular TWS is what makes me love LG and their drive to find innovation, and why I miss their phones. They included a feature that allows you to plug the case into a 3.5mm audio source via a USB C to 3.5mm headphone plug, and it turns the case into an audio receiver. It's a great feature, though I does lack some refinement: it only carries audio receiving, no mic input. So if you plan to plug these into your PC/laptop/Chromebook etc that doesn't have Bluetooth and expect to take meeting or calls, you'll be disappointed. You'll still need a separate mic to transmit your voice. Another gripe is the audio lag is very noticable. The LG Tone app does have a test feature for a "Game Mode" that is meant to help reduce the audio lag, but it seems to only work when connected to a Bluetooth source, not the case. Still, it's an awesome feature that I wish other manufacturers could include, or at least LG refine it to allow mic input or reduce the lag. Overall these are a great, lightweight pair of earbuds. The audio receiver feature on the case is cool (just dont lose that USB C to 3.5mm plug, because I don't know if any other replacements would work), and audio is good. Battery life is about average for both the buds and the case.

I normally come up with some cool title for my reviews. This, however, doesn't even need a click bait title. Oh my God, these earbuds knock it out of the park as far as all the needs and wants of a true wireless Bluetooth user. Straight to the point. These earbuds fit great. Fell great in the ears for long-term use. They are barely visible to others when they're in use. While they're in use, they sound amazing. The call quality is great and music and gaming mode is top-notch. I really love these earbuds. I get roughly 7 to 8 hours on a charge, which is more than enough to get through a work shift, then I can put on charge while I drive to the gym and start all over with hours of listening pleasure.( A total of 24 hours of playtime on one full charge, with the case.) They have a great water/dust rating. You don't have to worry about getting caught in the rain. The charging case will also sterilize the earbuds when you put them up to recharge. And if all of that isn't enough, plugging the charging case into anything that has a 3.5 mm jack, into a Bluetooth capable device simply by connecting the charging case to the device with an aux cable. I would tell you to remember to to download the app for optimal enjoyment, but the app pops up and prompts you to install upon opening the case for the first time. These things are flipping epic. If you've gotten this far into this review, you should be buying these now. In case you haven't guessed. Yes. I wholeheartedly recommend these to everyone. And I mean, everyone.

One year later the glue holding the shell together has given up and the ear bud has split in half. Sound quality is average. Noise cancelling is below average. Ambient mode is average and works well enough to talk with my children while listening to music.

Immediately when I began use of these earbuds, I will say that I was blown away by the quality. These are not just AirPods knockoffs but from the case to the available features, they are deserving of their own accolades as LG has done an excellent job here. With the unpackaging experience, I will be honest that the packing and presentation of the LG True Tone earbuds is subpar. The packaging for these could as easily be the packing for $30 dollar earbuds as almost $200 ones. However, sometimes amazing things can come wrapped in misleading exteriors because these earbuds have outstanding audio. I have long been an AirPod Pros user, and these LG earbuds are most definitely on par with the AirPod Pros for having high quality sound. These might even outstrip the Airpod Pros by a hair or two for bass quality and presence. I have found that every little bit of bass quality you can squeeze out of earbuds this size is impressive. I am not in love with the touch and tap interface. The controls are right at the top of the stalk of the earbud where you would normally grasp or push on to push them back into your ears if they loosen and that makes you pause the song or change the noise cancellation setting. I have been getting used to having to grip around the outside the stalk of the earbud to make adjustments to the earbud. I really like this case. The case has good curvature with soft touch surfaces that ensures it does not protrude or poke too much in your pocket if that is where you carry them. There are good cases for them, so if you prefer to clip these to keys or a lanyard, that could be an option for you. The inside of the case is great as well. I find that it is highly intuitive to put the earbuds back into their proper spots and there is some nifty blue lighting for when you open the case up which is nice in the dark when you want to put them back. The UV sanitation light works only when you are charging the case, but I think this is a cool feature to have available. Just note, the UV light is not going to be able to kill bacteria and sanitize these earbuds through layers and layers of earwax, so make sure to do your part and keep these clear and free of your ear gunk for a proper sanitization experience. I love the USB-C pass through cord included for airplane’s etc. Essentially, you plug the 3.5mm jack end of the cord into the auxiliary port of a given device and then plug the USB-C plug end into your case while you have the earbuds in your ears. You then toggle the switch on the side of the case, and you should be in business. You can also utilize this “wired-wireless” feature with computers or televisions when you don’t want to bother with Bluetooth connection. On the note of Bluetooth connection, these earbuds do have occasional little random audio glitches and stutters that I have found nearly unavoidable with most all Bluetooth headphones. However, the range on these is absolutely outstanding. I was doing chores in my house the other day and normally when I go in my garage and close the door with my phone in the living room, the audio starts to stutter and drop with other Bluetooth headphones, headsets, and earbuds I have tried. The True Tone FP9’s held in there and maintained a solid connection to my iPhone 8 as dependably as my AirPod Pros! Overall, I feel that for non-Apple ecosystem individuals, these are an absolute no-brainer for AirPod like convenience and audio quality. For Apple users, I feel like there is so much more utility with the AirPod Pros that it is difficult to depart from at this small of a price difference. However, LG has made a winning product here and they deserve your attention and time as you are making your purchasing decision. Thanks for reading and hope this has helped lend another perspective!

I would give these 5 stars if LG had better software support and install instructions. I glance at the Apple App store LG Tone app rating of 1.4 tells you all you need to know. Let me start with how these fit and sound app aside. They sound great. Frequency response covers the spectrum end to end but more important is just how well balanced and clear both vocals and instruments are. I'm hearing nuanced detail in almost everything I listen to and I've gone through Country, Classic Rock, 50/60's Rock(think Elvis), Pop, Freestyle/Dance, and general Top 40. Everything sounds fantastic and extremely well balanced. There is nothing offensive and no frequency ranges outpowering another when they shouldn't(e.g. Beats headphones always being heavy on the bass). One negative(before loading the app and updating the headphones) was that overall volume/gain was a bit low. My normal listing volume would be around 70% on my iPhone(post app install and earbuds update this reduced to 50%). Ear comfort for me is great. One thing I worried about with this type of earbud is how well it stays in my ear without becoming loose. While I haven't gone jogging with these I can say just walking around my house and shaking my head aggressively(just to test :D) they stay put. I used the pre-installed set of nubs but two other sizes are included and they feel great in the ear. LG says they are "medical grade gels"...they do feel my 'gelly' than others I've used..seriously :D The case feels good, not too big, buds secure and are removed pretty easily and as some others have commented the case itself can act as a bluetooth transmitter for devices that take a 3.5mm headphone jack like all those JetBlue flights I used to fly on(and soon will be again). It might sound really old school(using a 3.5mm headphone jack) but having the case double as a bluetooth transmitter is a fantastic idea, kudus to LG on this. Pre Covid I would fly roughly once a week for work and rolling into 2022 I have three trips scheduled between January/February so this will really come in handy as opposed having to bring a 2nd set of headphones. I tested this feature on my Windows PC's 3.5mm headphone jack it it worked immediately..just flick a switch on the charging case to let it know to be a transmitter for the earbuds, then remove the earbuds and power on. No fuss. I also tested pairing with my Windows 10 PC using a generic USB bluethooth adapter I use on my PC...also no problems there. I tested the microphone by recording some dialog via a Zoom meeting and playing back and I feel the audio sounds very good and natural. I can't comment at the moment on any mic noise suppression since I was the only one in the house while testing, but for the moment overall mic quality seems better than average...now on to the reason the majority of people will return these. The LG Tone app is a mess to install, at least on iOS, can't comment on Andriod. The bigger issue might not be the app itself but the lack of proper instruction from LG for how to insure the the app install and earbud pairing goes successfully. Basically the app itself needs to pair with the earbuds. Before you install the app you must have the earbuds powered on AND paired with your phone. When you install the app it asks if it can sent push notifications, say Yes(you can change this later if you don't like that)...and for sure when it asks if it can Pair say YES. Once this happens you will more than likely immediately get prompted to update the software...which is actually updating the firmware on your earbuds to the latest version so this will take several minutes. Your buds will power off/on on their own as the process finishes. Once done, you'll now be able to actually use this app and everything works as it should. The pre-baked EQ settings for Immersive, Natural(balanced), Bass Boost and Treble Boost are all excellent in my opinion in that there is a distant immediate tone change but they are really well defined and something I could people actually using(I chose Natural). The 3D Sound Stage is useless, its like one of those "wide" modes you'd get on an old boom box so it widens the sound stage but it goes too far and you loose way too much detail in the entire frequency range, everything becomes really wide and really flat. Still, 4 out of the 5 being something pretty legit and well balanced is still good in my opinion. There's also 2 "custom" slots where you can use a 8 band EQ to dial in to your liking. The noise canceling works but its not as robust as active noise canceling in other 'over the ear' headphones I've used. That's probably an unfair comparison since over the ear headphones have a passive aspect as well. What I find is, the active noise cancelling more so cancels sounds coming from your own body movements that often resonate in your ear with these style of in-ear ear buds. Hard to describe but those of you who have used a few different examples of in-ear ear buds probably know what I mean. So the active noise cancelling does work pretty well just don't expect it to perform miracles. There's also an "ambient sound" mode. Best way to describe this is as a single choice sound machine where the only option is a mild white noise generator. I can honestly see myself using it on long flights home where I want to drown out the engine noise. There's a couple of other features I haven't tested but what I can say is, once you are past the lack of instructions on how to properly install the app..and finally have the app properly installed and paired, it works as it should and all of the things I describe above are very distinct so you know you just made a change and the change is instant and the buds will remember that setting even after they are powered off. Hope this helps a few souls. Well worth the $130 I spend, but can understand why so many have returned these. I bought my for $130 and feel they are worth it, but the lack of good instructions is something LG needs to correct if they want to sell more of these because most frustrations and returns will be because of the dodgy app install.
