I like the Sony UHD player better but does the job

The OS on both the Sony and LG's are pretty archaic, and you feel that "this is the first in a new tech generation" kinda feel with them both. The LG has some different options and settings than the Sony, and doesn't have the screaming capabilities the Sony has. It's a nice enough machine that gets the job done, but if I had to choose? I'd pick the Sony.
