Bright!

Originally purchased the Phillips Hue Starter Kit and was disappointed in the overall brightness of the bulbs. Researched the Lifx bulb and how it is supposed to be considerably brighter. I purchased two of these and couldn't be happier. So bright and vivid. The app could be improved as it's sometimes a little confusing how to accomplish certain tasks. The information provided by the Lifx support center on their website needs to be updated to reflect the actual content of the latest app revision. I have the android version of the app, it has crashed once or twice and had to restart app but nothing major. Overall the hardware is extremely impressive while the app could still use a little more polish. Recommended!

Bright bulb with room to grow

Overall, this bulb is impressive. The IOS app is lacking but it does have a simple user interface that at least allows you to separate (group) bulbs together and control them, create different light scenes and link it to Nest. I think there's plenty of room to grow and certainly i'd like to see integration with other vendors like Logitech. They support HUE as well. But ultimately the Phillips bulbs are weak in the Lumen category so they are really almost half what the Lifx bulbs are. Overall i'd say if you're ok with a pretty basic application and no real 3rd party integration but want a really bright bulb that can offer a wide range of colors then Lifx is for you. But if you don't mind a duller bulb but really want the integrations and features then the HUE is probably your bet.

More lumens than Hue, but less apps too

I love these bulbs because of the health benefits I've had as a result of using them. The different colors enable me to change the setting in my room to be more supportive of my eyes' needs. No more squinting because of lights that are too bright or too yellow. These are much brighter than Hue's, but the nice thing is they are gorgeous color wise. The apps will come in time and Lifx just released a new version of their software yesterday. IFTTT integration works nicely. You can always turn the number of lumens down if they are too bright, but you can never make them brighter unless you add bulbs. That alone is what makes this a great product. You get to increase the brightness of the bulb for that rich coloration which is usable without having 4-6 with the Hue's. Hue's are 600 lumens, these are above 1,000. So, if you get the Hue starter kit with 3 A19 bulbs, you bought yourself 1800 lumens... if you buy just 2 Lifx bulbs, you bought 2,000 lumens. Given the price for each bulb is as steep as they are, it is a no brainer. The other thing to mention is the apps are going to come with the API readily available. My eyes are so light sensitive that I wear sunglasses indoors, and the colors of these bulbs allow me to take my glasses off and just enjoy the ambience.

What can I say. I LoveLamp. While not all the features have been enabled yet (or the API/SDK) I really like this product. iOS app is seamless, although when tested on my Droid not quite as effective. Product is brand new and this is v1 of both apps so I'd imagine the functionality will improve over time. I'm looking forward to the new features that are coming, particularly the music visualiser and security mode. Seems to be brighter and easier to use than the competition - the app is a far superior UX than the Hue. Excited to see what these guys do next and in the meantime I'm loving having remote control of such nice lighting!

New to the whole smart lighting, but I got these bulbs and I gotta say I love them. Different colors and easy controls via smartphone make for an enjoyable lighting experience. Will be buying more lights from Lifx.

Have spent over $1000 on these bulbs, have had nothing but trouble, have contacted customer support over a half a dozen times, they have responded each time, but with absolutely no solutions, .... After spending over a week resetting the bulbs and reinstalling the app on an iPhone 5S, and and iPad air 2, I went into my router and set up each bulb with its own dedicated static IP address, it worked fine for about two weeks, but then they came out with their latest firmware update, now it's worse than before, the bulbs will not stay connected, the app shows the dreaded triangles at random, on single bulbs, and entire groups, resetting one bulb only causes another bulb to lose connection, it's too late to return these, so I'm stuck with them, I have spent this entire weekend trying to fix the problem, but have had absolutely no luck. The bulbs are a great idea, but if you're using more than one or two bulbs, FORGET ABOUT IT! These have obviously not been tested in real-world conditions.
The last response I received from them was a link to download the latest beta version of the firmware and app software, I filled out everything and submitted to receive the download link, but three days later and I still have nothing,.... I will give this another week or so, but after that if anyone is interested, you will find all of these bulbs on eBay really cheap!

Much better and brighter than the hue

I purchased three of these lights and love them! I have then set up in my living room and use only those lights. The 75 watt equivalent may be correct but in reality the light from leds are much much brighter, coming from three 100 watt cfi lights. The app needs updating which they are working on if you check out their kickstarter page. I love waking up to these lights and being able to come home, park and turn my lights on before I even get out of the car! If I could change one thing about these is I would change the availability to in store. Compared to the hue, let's just say I'm glad I didn't make that mistake.

Pretty much a rehash of the other reviews, both good and bad. These are brighter than the Cree Bulbs, but also bigger. Love the IOS app. Very intuitive. Promises of more functions (seriously, no timer?) have been largely unfulfilled. I'd wait. Either Lifx will come through with improvements or something better will come along at this price.

I rarely rate products as excellent, but after using this bulb for 10 days or so, I can't think of anything that I can complain about it. Easy step by step instructions worked great, and I had it installed and working in 5 minutes. BestBuy has reduced the price to $49.95 making it an even better value. Would absolutely recommend to others.

I have two of these and I'm an original kick starter buyer. The bulbs work great! The app to control the bulbs has matured into and excellent experience. Many more options than before when all these previous reviews were done. They change colors to music and sound, set them up if you're on vacation, and have options like candle (flickering) light. Lots of fun with a bright, cost efficient led Wi-Fi bulb. I just bought 2 more as gifts. They may be a bit expensive but if they last 40,000 hours they are worth it. I'm a tech guy and my wife said this is probably the best tech product I've bought. I see her point but I like my smartphones better.

I purchased a few of these bulbs and am very pleased with the product. Plugged them into a lamp, selected the lifx wifi using my iOS device, and told the device which wifi network to connect to. Total process took about 60 seconds then it was good to go. Each time I pull up the app, it takes about 2-3 seconds to find the devices, and once in the app, the lights are very responsive to changes in color and brightness and I can control a single bulb or all at once. In order to get good color from the bulbs, the brightness needs to be set to a fairly low % of full power, which makes a huge difference in this 75W rated product over the Philips Hue, which is only rated around 40W. Full functionality in some of the demo videos on the Internet is not available (no wake alarm, set lights to music, auto on/off when I leave/enter home, etc) but this product is in it's infancy and the app does what it needs to for now. I look forward to future updates and an SDK that will allow further app development.

This product did not work correctly and after a how to fix it problem reply from LIFX customer service email, they never replied to subsequent messages when light still won't work. A second new report filled but no response at all. Only email support as no number can be found fir the LIFX company for tech support or any other matter.

Received my LIFX bulb and currently just use it for mood lighting in the living room where we watch Television. The multicolor and dimming options create a new feel to the room and atmosphere. That alone was well worth the purchase of this new and still in early stages innovative product for myself and family. I'm very excited for the upcoming features that will be available for the mobile apps. I've been following this product for quite sometime now and will be purchasing more in the future. Great Idea and the possibilities are exciting!!

First off: after reading the reviews here I don't understand one thing. Why are people complaining about the heat? I never went around touching my incandescent bulbs, which were just small ovens.
LIFX has delivered on their concept perfectly. Perhaps not as bright as I had hoped, but it is still extremely nice and with the app I adjusted it to the temperature I wanted for the light. The colors look spectacular! The app works extremely well! As more bulbs reach customers the app will be updated with more the advertised features. Connecting the bulb to the network is extremely easy and fast. I am absolutely in love and will be buying more for sure!

Was intermittently having issues with the bulb not being found in the app. Updated to the latest firmware which ended up making things worse. Had to reset the bulb twice and still having issues where it losses connection with my app and cannot be seen again. Used Samsung Galaxy S5 with 5.1.1 OS, Samsung Note10 (2014) with 4.4.2 OS and Ipad Air with 8.3 IOS. Broadband is Comcast with a Netgear (N) Wifi router. Will be returning this immediately for a replacement and hopefully the next one will work properly. As of the moment I cannot recommend this product. Will update after replacement.

I have purchased this light bulb in September of this year. It was working great for about two weeks, changing colors from the app, etc. After two weeks (with no changes in our setup) it refused to connect to our WiFi ever again. LIFX will not honor their product and BestBuy geek squad conveniently LOST THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY I PURCHASED. Unbelievable.

DO NOT BUY

DO NOT BUY THESE BULBS. This is a completely unfinished product. The phone app does not provide most of the functionality advertised. They often don't connect or just randomly disconnect. But the worst thing is that they run really REALLY hot for LED bulbs. They advertise that they will last for 25 years but this is complete rubbish. I would be surprised if they lasted the 2 years warranty.
