High performing whole home wifi - finally..

I've been a long time network 'expert' trying to get full wifi coverage in my various homes over the years. I've run very expensive routers and wireless access points, of pretty much every vendor you could imagine. The Velop is the first time I've plugged something in and its just worked - don't be deceived those techies amongst you, less is sometimes more. At the moment there are a lot of restrictive features in the app (incl. the way it makes you setup with a phone/tablet and no web interface), but there is a back-end engineering/support interface that gives you more of what you would expect. I have ethernet cables in a lot of rooms and the Velop allows you to use that as a backhaul, effectively making this a mesh of access points that you can put wherever you want. None of the other mesh vendors currently allow this. I have to say though even as a power user I'm quite enjoying the low maintenance aspect of just plug it in, setup the basic networking info and let it go. Is it 100% perfect? No , not yet. There are some kinks in the management app, and the way some odd devices connect will always need some refinement (nothing new there) but in general I can walk from one end of the 3000sqft/2storey house to the other end, on a factime or VOIP call and it never drops once. I think despite all the rough edges on this , thats what I (and probably you reading this) will like the most. It finally solves the issue of whole home wifi coverage without needing expensive cabling to wifi ninja planning skills.

    Most of them work okay

I've had these for several years. Two of the three worked fine the entire time. One of the three has been a lemon for the vast majority of the time I've owned the system. It repeatedly needs set up and after successful setup, it drops in just a few hours. I tried resetting, reconfiguring, updating firmware....the one is just broken. So 2/5 stars since only 2/3 actually work. Addition star deduction because Linksys support is seemingly non-existent. Several times I attempted to submit an online form for support and each time the form errored out. The app works fine and the other two nodes work fine, but given the hardware issue and inability to submit a simple support inquiry I would choose a different brand in the future.

I don't do reviews, but this is an exception. This mesh system is for inside a house. We live on a farm with many outbuildings. Nobody would believe this, but these three nodes cover large distances between three buildings. We stream movies and more with no problems. Highly recommend.

My house is not large but I always struggled to find a wifi router that covered both floors and my patio. This seems to be working great. Would be 5 stars if base price was lower. I got it on sale, plus BB had a promotion for 15% off if you recycle an old router. That was significant for this high end system. Without those discounts I would have gone another route(r).

    Excellent Speed Through The House

Using WIFI extenders to increase wifi speed in my house did not work. The signal strength was degraded the farther away from the router it went. After installing the Tri-band 3 pack Velop mesh system I have the same internet speed though out the entire house. I can now have 4K Smart TVs in any room I want and my laptop even works in the garage. I love this system.

I had an reasonably new Linksys router which was placed on the second floor of my home. My entertainment system is on the 1st floor and had trouble getting a good signal. Even on the second floor, there were areas where the signal was bad. After contemplating 2 or 3 piece Velop system, I opted for 2. After the easy install, all my devices were getting a great signal, even outside my home.

Solves network problem. Needs better app/managemen

I have cable modem with Wifi from big Philadelphia area provider augmented by an Asus router in WAP mode. In my 2 story house, had some issues with coverage and support for the 25-30 devices we have: iPhones, iPads, Sonos speakers, smart TVs, Wifi printers, laptops, thermostats, and adding more all the time. Initial setup went very smoothly, but Sonos didn't work (well documented issue) and wifi printer didn't work from wired devices. After quite a bit of online searching (and finding issues with both Sonos and wifi printers), I resolved the problems by putting it into bridge mode via the VERY OBSCURE "CA" setting on the bottom of the online web form. Between Linksys and Belkin (who now owns them) you'd think there was enough experience with the management UI and Use Cases for in home wifi management. It seems they have not really benefited from the lessons learnt with previous web & app deliveries. Overall, these appear to be providing better quality and access. Handoffs between nodes is smooth and non-disruptive. Bandwidth is consistent. And I'm getting more 5GHZ (i.e. faster) on devices that support it. From the technical perspective, fairly solid after initial integration hiccups. Management interface really needs some help.

    AHEAD OF THE CURVE

I had been using the LINKSYS WRT1200AC DUAL-BAND WI-FI ROUTER with a range extender, prior to purchasing the Velop 2pk. I live in a split entry ranch (two story). I was using the extender over the years, to try to help fill in the dead zones in my house, but this would have hit and miss connectivity and speed problems in those areas. Also I read that the extender bottlenecks the signal and can cut the signal 50%, which I was experiencing first hand . NOT GOOD! I set up the Velop 2 PK Nodes with help from one of the most knowledgeable online tecs I have ever dealt with (they have a Velop only tec line). It should have been as easy as letting their Linksys app walk you through every step of the setup, but they had a cloud down the afternoon I was attempting the set up (apparently I was told, it affected the app function which would have walked me through the entire set up procedure). Anyways... it went quick and easy with the tecs help and now we have blanket "100% full coverage" for the entire house, with quick connection and speed. It does not matter if I am in the furthest bedroom or in the garage! FAST FAST Connection and Internet speed!!! I believe the Velop system is the start of the next generation in home wireless networking... Linksys is way "ahead of the curve"!
