Not impressed with this camera. You can't set it to stay still, so it's all over the place. It says it's 1080p but it looks more like 720 or worse.

This webcam has a cool smooth exterior and is not a solid black. There are speckles that I first thought were dust but they are part of the cool look. The mounting bracket is well made and has a sticky surface for no slipping on the back of your monitor. The sticky surface however makes at a little difficult if you plan to swap it to different devices. If you are only using it on one monitor it will work well. The webcam hooks onto the mount magnetic and stays on well. The mount can be tilted forward and the webcam swivels to get the best picture. Just make sure computer has an available USB-C connection since this is what the cable connects with. The software is easy to use and you can adjust the zoom preset to get the best view while minimizing your surroundings. Sound quality is clear and crisp as well. The webcam cover is built in and can be opened or closed with a twist dial on the side. Light quality is good in a bright and low light conditions. My son has been using if for home schooling and it performs much better than the computer's built in webcam.

    Solid Webcam Upgrade

I was looking to upgrade my older Logitech C920 camera, but the Logitech Brio 4k webcam seemed like it was overkill for what I was looking for, so I was happy to see Logitech made the Brio 500. Out of the box, it's your basic plug and play webcam situation. Something to be aware of is this webcam requires a USB-C port. My monitor has a built in USB hub that I plug all my accessories into so I can swap my personal and work laptop at my desk. So I resorted to using a USB-C to USB-A adapter because the monitor doesn't have a USB-C input port. It worked without a hitch and I was up and running in a few minutes. The Brio 500 works for both Windows and Mac devices plug-&-play out of the box, but if you want some additional customization, you can download the Logi Tune software. This is how you manage firmware updates for the camera, in fact, there was one required out of the box as soon as I set it up. The Logi Tune software also allows you to customize color temperatures, zoom, etc. It did not allow me to adjust the frame rate. The camera is supposed to support 1080p at 30 FPS and 720p at 60 FPS, but there was no way to toggle that in the Tune app. The Brio has 2 cool new hardware features that set it apart from my older C920. First, it has a built-in privacy shutter that you can open and close, which is a nice privacy / security feature. Also, the camera attaches to the base with a magnetic connection, so you can pivot the camera down to the desk. It plays a bit like what Apple described for their new Continuity Camera feature, so you can pivot the camera down to the desk, and the camera automatically rotates the image so you can share what's on your desk without it looking upside down to anyone you're sharing / broadcasting to. There's also a built-in microphone, but I have a dedicated USB microphone that I use, so I can't speak to that. All in all, I really like the camera, the video quality is great for a webcam and is great for work Zoom calls as well as recording / streaming. Since most internet video is compressed in order to stream, the quality of 1080p video still looks great.

Definitely Best Suited for Business Needs

Ever since the first COVID lockdowns of 2020, most of us who would go into an office daily, have been working from home in some capacity ever since then and continue to do so this day. This has caused many people, myself included, to want to invest in some decent teleconferencing gear such as microphones and webcams. That is where the Brio 500 comes into play. I definitely would not classify it as a webcam for streaming, this is designed with the business user in mind. The rotation of the camera to show your notes or drawings or whatever it may be is cool, but not something I would ever need in my line of work. The feature does work pretty well, the camera does a good job knowing when it's being rotated down and when to readjust to a face. I did notice some bugs with this device. For starters, I use Logi G Hub and it did detect this device. However, it said no firmware was available. Then when I download the LogiTune software, it says there is a firmware update. Seems to be some disparity between the two apps. Also, the auto focus seemed to be a little funky in low lighting such as night time or cloudy days with background lighting. It would seem to not want to focus on my face or auto focus at all until I would wave my hand at the camera. A little annoying to deal with... The camera quality on this webcam is very good, if you are recording a seminar, a meeting, this will give you a great picture with great lighting and the wide angle lens is a very nice touch. Having a wider angle makes your video look more professional and framed. I have not been able to test the beta version of RightSight. But that sort of innovation is interesting and definitely will help this webcam stand out in the market. If you are someone who does video calls quite frequently with clients/coworkers, I absolutely recommend you get this webcam. If you do not do those calls as often or already have a 720p camera and are in that boat, I would pass. All in all, a great webcam, a little high on price, which is why I have to do 4/5 stars just because I do not see the full value.

    Great Midrange Webcam

Set up is simple for this webcam, because you just plug it into a USB-C jack on your computer and Windows will automatically find it and get it ready for you. The video quality is good at 1080p and 30fps. It does give you the option of 720p with 60fps. The camera also gives you a wide 90-degree field of view which is the farther setting, but you can get closer with the default setting of 78-degrees and even closer with setting of 68 degrees. This webcam can be moved around; at least as far as the USB-C cable will reach, and it is easy to transfer the camera from computer to laptop. This comes with a monitor mount and the camera snaps magnetically into place. This is great if you need to show something that is off camera. If you need a little privacy, there is a privacy shutter. Turn the knob on the side up or down to open and close it. If you do not want to have this mounted on your monitor or laptop, this has a camera mount thread at the bottom and you can screw this into almost any tripod and use the webcam. This way you always get your best angle when recording. You will want the Tune app for your computer. This gives you all the webcam setting you need for video calls, gaming, etc. When “Right Sight” is enabled it will automatically bring you into frame. It even has a calendar if you want to use this for work and have video calls. There are filters you can use and a few other things you can do also. If you are looking for a decent webcam that won’t break the bank, this is a wonderful option. You get good quality, built in microphone and a variety of features.

Overall a nice Webcam for Office work

The Logitech Brio is a nice camera that works well for conference calls with some nice to have features. I appreciate the large and easy to use privacy shield on the camera and the lights on it to let me know when the PC is using the camera, as well as nice base that keeps the camera in place with a magnet and tilts to allow me to show my work surface or change angle nicely. However I can't give it five stars because the USB-C cable on the camera is fixed to the device. I would prefer a removal cable as if you plan to use this as a travel camera the cable could get damaged, as well as making this e-waste if the the cable gets damaged. Additionally the cable is USB-C only so the PC/MAC you are attaching to needs to have a USB-C port you you have to provide your own USB-C to USB-A connector. So if you have an older PC/MAC without the newer USB-C connector port make sure you get an adapter with this to use the camera. Now the field of view on the camera is great, at 90 degrees, as long as your in front of it, you'll be in view and the software does a decent job of framing the person talking. Additionally the microphone on the camera was good enough for me to run a few conference calls with work without anyone noticing/objecting complaining about being able to hear me, so that is a win. Overall this is a nice camera with decent color balancing in a bright room and a fantastic FOV and just right for Office use.

Needing a replacement for a previous phone to use on Zoom, I bought the Logitech Brio 500. It cost me more than double the other available cameras. In actual use, I found it very unsatisfactory as it shows me on Zoom as a very fuzzy character. This is not what I expected.
