I decided to go budget and went with a basic Macbook Air. To my shock it is an extremely powerful but light & pleasant device. I use a $2K Macbook Pro for work and this thing rivals the speed but is smaller and quieter. I build my own PC's and I am not a huge Apple fan because of the 'Apple Tax' increase in price but this thing is a fantastic performer for a budget price. The M1 chip is fantastic.

Best mac I have ever owned (and have owned G5 Cheesegrater, mac mini Intel machines, macbook, macbook air (intel)). This thing is really amazing for the price - especially when on sale at $800. I bought open box for $865 early in 2021 and no issues. Just traded into Apple last week for $515! Got great use out of it for two years and trade in value was excellent. Waiting to get the 15" Macbook Air that is supposed to be released June 2023. THAT will be the perfect machine (assuming they don't do something stupid with design/features).
This thing runs Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22 faster than a native install on a "windows" PC. Just BLOWS them out of the water and not by a little - the M1 ARM processor is very fast - at many things - so even if don't like MacOS - just buy Paralles virtualzation software and a Windows license. Done and Done. For what you pay/get you can't do better for general use machine. Battery life ridiculous - lasts for whole day of use no problem. One benefit of buying this older machine is Apple designed these with 2 SSDs (effecivetly a RAID configuration) which is twice as fast as the M2 machines (unless you get the upgraded storage). So, buying the base model still nets you performance gains you won't get on an M2 based machine.

Cheaper than the Apple Edu store!

I feel like I got this 2020 Macbook Air at a super reasonable price. I weighed up my options between the M1 and M2 chip models, but didn’t feel like I needed to spend so much just to have the newer and latest model. While I’m sure the M2 models are great (and a step up), the reviews for the 2020 Macbook Air still really sell them as awesome laptops - so I decided to buy it and what a great discounted price Best Buy offers…it’s cheaper than getting it from the Apple Education store!

I love the color! It definitely does not weigh as much as my MacBook Pro and it is easy to use and easy to transfer my information from the Pro to the Air. Battery life is definitely better, but if you need to use your device often throughout the day, you should definitely carry your charger with you.

This little guy... Wow.. Battery life is out-of-this world. Great screen, better keyboard than a couple of generations ago. Stupid fast. Don't let the 8GB of ram scare you. The M1 processor uses ram differently than the older Core processors. A lot of your main-stream software is already at least compatible with the M1, with more and more being optimized all the time! Everything I use day-to-day is already optimized and WOW the performance from this entry-level LAPTOP kills my old desktop!!

Apart from being incredibly slim and beautiful, this laptop is also incredibly lightweight, specially compared to the dinosaur I just came from being the MacBook Pro from like 2010. I got the basic seeing as I didn't need to do anything crazy on it, and it over performs on anything I've needed so far. Battery life is incredible as well when not plugged in, and charges other devices quickly. Totally recommend

I've owned the MacBook Air M1 (first gen) for almost a year and I can say without a doubt this is THE best laptop I have ever used. Honestly, I'm hesitant to even call it a laptop as it feels more like a work of art or a magical artifact. Let's take a closer look:
Design? Breathtaking.
Battery? Outstanding.
Display? Gorgeous.
Performance? Out of this world.
Do yourself the favor and buy yourself this work of art. You won't regret it.

I was in market for a laptop after about six years (yeah yeah.. I know you might think I am cheap but I think I 1) buy relatively quality products (conditioned on my affordability) and 2) simply take care of the things hence they last longer.
I am generally on my laptop at least 16 hours every day and I mean to the last minute... I normally have around 5 pdf books open, 3-5 presentations, at least 20-30 large excel sheets, 10ish tabs in my browser including youtube and a programming language interface. You might have guessed that I am a very light user of laptop..
I have tried 4 laptops before settling in with this MacBook Air. All of these had at least one of the below issues:
1) fan noise
2) bad keyboard ergonomics
3) heating issues
4) relatively slow despite of having latest core i7 and 16 GB RAMs
5) very expensive..not value for the money
This MacBook ticks all the boxes and does not suffer from any of the above issues..ok,ok, I get it, I agree it is a bit on the expensive side but it is still a good value for the money...In short, BUY it you will not REGRET it!!

Not sure I can say more about the MacBook quality and performance that has not already been said. I will add that with the M1 chip there is not much a reason to look at the MacBook Pro beyond any specific requirements you might have. The Pro will serve those who deal with a lot video editing or resource draining applications. But for those who want a good , fast, lightweight ,and powerful laptop, this is it.

such an incredible laptop, runs the sims 3 perfectly which is extremely rare for a laptop especially macbooks. perfect for work and study. love my apple ecosystem seriously. unfortunately, my brother spilt a large mcdonald’s coke with extra ice directly onto the keyboard and screen so now i just use my pc but i miss this laptop everyday. great deal too!

I underestimated how powerful, light, and versatile these machines are. For everyday computing, this is hands-down the best laptop on the market, even with the newer models out. TODAY - more than two years after it's initial release, I WOULD BUY ANOTHER M1 Macbook Air IF given the choice. The M1 is fast, it has excellent battery life, good speakers, and connectivity via hub/docking station turn it into a powerhouse.

Snappy, quiet (no fan), extremely portable, and crazy long battery life! And durable too!!! What more do you want?? Smaller bezel, touchscreen, and better camera? Yes, there are other 13" laptops out there with smaller bezels and touchscreen. But not with this performance and battery life! I'm mad at both Intel and Dell for still playing a catch-up game after a year and a half! We bought our first M1 Air last summer and this is our 2nd one!

This was my final purchase to complete my apple ecosystem. I have a iMac and Mac mini and this is the perfect device to carry around in my back pack. Built solid, fast enough to do the job. Battery life is great and track pad is very fluid. I very happy with the quality and performance at this price point.

First time Mac user; switched from PC. This computer blows away any that I have ever used. It is so ridiculously fast! It hasnt even thought about getting warm ever, even through long movie streaming (binging!) sessions. The battery life is outstanding. So easy to switch to the Apple ecosystem this year. Went from android to iPhone, and now this MacBook Air. Only regret is that I didn’t switch sooner. Got a fantastic deal on a great piece of hardware!

Sleek and stylish, this laptop is great. Plus its very affordable. I love how vibrant the screen is. The device is very thin and easy to hold. When you are using it for a long time the system does not get hot at all on the bottom. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a seriously power laptop in a compact size.

I absolutely love this little MacBook Air. I needed something smaller than my HP to take to work or other places. It’s amazing on battery, beautiful screen and colors, fast and I absolutely love the ease of use. I have mostly Apple products and this makes it easier to do everything. I use this MacBook Air for everything except gaming lol
