    Good replacement VCR

I bought this as a replacement for an old VCR that died. The VHS video quality is acceptable, and the DVD video output is pretty good (all things considered after being spoiled with HD output these days). It has lots of output options but one issue is I am not able to have the VCR go to regular single cable video out and the DVD go to ypp/composite unless I get an audio splitter because there is just one audio out (I don't have an amp or tv with coax audio) (this is maybe more an issue with my TV's input scheme) So for now I am just running DVD on regular video out. Not a big deal, the kids use this for kids videos, I use my PS3 next to it for upscaled videos and blu-ray discs. The case is fairly tall for its contents however the unit is not heavy. The controls are easy for kids to understand, and the VCR commands are responsive and a great improvement over the old vcr. This was a refurb item, so far so good, no quality issues. Very inexpensive for what I needed.

    Technology going backwards?!

Doesn't have a tuner, so unless you have a cable box to plug it into, you'll need to shell out another $80-100 for an external tuner. (If you don't understand what I mean, there is no place to connect cable TV to the VCR/DVD.) You cannot record one channel and watch another! No kidding. It even says it in capital letters in the manual. My older Magnavox is better than this. VCRs I bought 20 years ago had this capability. Wish I could rate it zero stars.

    A great Christmas Present

I bought this as a Christmas present for my Mother and it seems to be working flawlessly, I gave it to her in the middle of December 2010. It was very easy to setup and I was able to easily run her external digital TV receiver through it. My Mother has a large VHS collection, as well as DVDs, and this machine allows her to play either. Just a forewarning to anyone buying this machine, it does not have any type of TV tuner, it will require a external digital tuner or a TV with one built in. The bad reviews about this machine not having a tuner cracks me up. Folks think that a $40 dvd/vcr player is going to have a $40 digital tuner built in.

    Not as great as advertised

I bought this VCR/DVD because our old VCR went out but when I got it home to hook it up I found that to record I need to spend $7.50 a month just to get a converter box from my cable company. And I need to have a RF add on because the refurbished VCR/DVD doesn't come with the connection ports for cable. Unfortually for me there isn't alot of options because you can't seem to find just VCR's anymore if you want to record your tv you have to pay either the cable company or another company to record what just a few years ago you could do for FREE!!!!

I had the silver model of this DVD/VCR for around 5 or 6 years before it died.I purchased this version thinking that Magnavox was a great brand and how awesome my previous one was.Boy was I wrong. It worked a week then would not power on.I sent it back to the manufacturer and it won't play dvds.I've sent it back again to get a 3rd one and I'm guessing it's not gonna work either.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GARBAGE PEOPLE! It is the worst!

I put a casset into the machine and it would not play. When I tried to eject it the machine held the tape. It ruined my tape. The machine was junk.

I bought this as a replacement for my old one and what a poor job it did. The picture was ok But after four weeks the dvd player stopped working. The VCR still works but I have a two year old who uses it all the time so I needed something that was going to last. Trust me don't buy this product.

Bought this a refurb in order to transfer VHS to digital. Easy to set up and use, but after about a month the tape transport began to squeal and picture became distorted. It's a shame, because there aren't too many VHS players on the market anymore....

The VCR is easy to use. I was expecting to be able to watch one channel while recording another, but it lacks this feature. It also seems that if it is to record a program at a pre-set time, the TV must be tuned in advance to the correct channel.

My VCR was eating tapes for lunch so I needed a replacement to record some of my favorite TV shows, and also to play back TV programs that I previously recorded. I bought this model because of price and I doubt I will use the DVD player. The picture quality is not quite as good as my previous machine but it is adequate for my purpose.

    Wow!

The absolute worst! I have been buying electronics for as long as there have been electronics. This was the absolute worst item I have ever bought! When I plugged it in the DVD tray opened and everything froze! After trying the remote and finally un and replugging the tray closed. I tried to play a disc and a disc error message showed on the screen. I tried about 10 different discs with the same result. For the heck of it I though I would try a vcr tape...every one played with green horizontal lines that couldn't be removed with the tracking adjustments. Needless to say the unit is being returned. Thankfully I bought it at BestBuy who is great to deal with.

Great price on a combo DVD/VCR

Purchased a DVD/VCR combo online for about $50. It's refurbed but you can't tell it. I actually got two. They both look new and play great. Very easy setup and operation. I highly recommend if you want a basic unit for video watching. I have not found a better value.

Very Good VCR at a Great Price

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I believe my aunt has this same product but I paid half the price! This VCR-DVD combo works very well. Be ready to have a TV with the red/white/yellow input jacks, though. At the moment I'm using some sort of connector box and that prevents me from being able to record a TV program while the VCR's on. There may be a couple of random glitches here and there during playback, but that could just be my connection. Also, depending on what type of VHS tape you have in, you may not be able to rewind or fast forward quicker than the usual speed. Still, I'd definitely recommend this item!

    VCR ate first tape

The VCR ate the first tape we put into it. Makes one wish for the old days when the VCR had some metal components instead of the flimsy plastic. Brought it back and have not ordered another.

Great product for the price. I mean what do you expect for $40 bucks. Works just fine. I haven't had any problems. Easy to use! I bought it for my 4 year old and she can operate it just fine.

    Didn't work

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have an older TV. As a result, I have to use a RF modulator in order to make my TV compatable with newer electronics. I don't know if that's what caused the problem or what, but this VHS player wouldn't work if the TV was turned on. It would only work when the TV was off, which is, obviously, no help to me. I followed the directions given for use with TVs that required a modulator to no avail. It just didn't work. Maybe it will work with a newer TV, but if you have an older TV I would not recommend this item. However, it's worth noting that the Best Buy people were fantastic about it. I hate bad customer service. If I buy a defective item, I want the situation fixed in a manner that is fast, curteous, and at no expense to me. Best Buy did all of that. They were really great.

The VCR plays tapes at the wrong speed, and cannot be changed. I tried adjusting the cables and the tracking, different tapes, etc., but cannot get rid of the "noise" on the picture. The DVD player works perfectly, with no picture issues.

I bought this combo unit for Christmas because we still have so many VHS tapes so we need both the DVD & VCR. The VCR is still working, but the DVD player no longer recognizes discs.

After playing several vhs tapes without problems, the last several tapes had only sound for long periods until a picture would begin to appear. I would have rather had my old player repaired. The remote was poorly designed as well. I would like to return the player.
