"Family Hotline" is much better for video calls with the elderly. It has a single important purpose, rather than trying to be everything to everyone, thereby pleasing no one.

A portable Portal - all I needed

We use the portal ALL the time to talk with the grandparents, it has great audio, a wide field of view and picks up voice from anywhere in the room. The camera also automatically tries to frame you, and is pretty good at that, so if you are the only one and sitting far away, it will automatically zoom in to just keep you in the frame, and as soon as someone else walks in, it will automatically zoom out to frame around them as well. It also has a feature to focus on a particular person, you just click on your own video feed and then tap on the person's face. So overall a great device for video calls. This new iteration has all of those great features + its battery powered so we can take it anywhere in the house. The 10'' screen is pretty big and looks great, with the only omission being that you can't really lay it down vertically. You lose that cause the base is only big on 1 side to support the device. I do use it as an Alexa device as well, and works great for that too. I know people have qualms about letting "Facebook" into your home, and for those people, you can mute the mic and cover the camera with a physical shutter when not in use, if you want, So, this is a definite recommendation, as a Whatsapp video calling device + an Alexa video device.
