I've done jawbone, Fitbit, shine and now MS band. Bad is far and away better than the others....jawbone being the worst due to always breaking. The MSB does a great job counting steps, logging runs on a treadmill or GPS and tracking sleep.
As a big Apple fan, I was looking forward to the apple watch. But, with the battery life of less than a day. That was the deal breaker for me and I'm glad I took the plunge on the MSB. Looking forward to future updates on the band itself, app and the website tracking software.

Great Fitness Tracker and Productivity Device!

I purchased this as a fitness tracker and it has surpassed my expectations. It literally has everything... step counter, heart rate monitor, UV monitor with time to burn, weather, workout tracker, guided workouts (like having a personal trainer), facebook, twitter, txt, calls, emails, watch mode, even pay for your Starbucks with this thing (I'm not kidding!), customize colors and backgrounds. The app even syncs with other popular apps like RunKeeper and myfitnesspal so you don't lose any data and you are not forced to abandon your old stuff. There are too many sensors to list so I'll just talk about some of my favorites. Guided workouts. You can download workouts from fitness magazines like Men's Health, etc... directly from the band app and it not only tracks your heart rate and calories, but it tells you what to do and when to do it. It then keeps track of your reps, calories burned, etc so you can measure your progress. The Microsoft Health app allows you to select the workouts that you want to do and it will even show you how to do each exercise properly. Sleep tracker is pretty cool too. On the productivity side, I have to say that I had no intention of wearing this all day, but I've found myself doing just that. It's just way too convenient to glance at your wrist and see who's calling, read/reply to txts and read emails. It even has a tiny keyboard that somehow works! I love this thing! About the only negative thing I can ding this on is that I would recommend a screen protector as the bezel around the screen can be scratched.

As a minimalist, going from my FitBit Flex to this was an adjustment in size and weight. This becomes irrelevant when you consider the advantages in features and customization you get with the MS Band. The comfort curve was within hours (forgot it was on) and additional functionalities are appreciated like GPS, notifications from my phone (I surprisingly find myself using my iPhone less now unless calls come through), UV sensor telling the exposure duration until sun damage and for me the heart monitor is quite the treat; especially in workout and sleep tracking when you are trying to hit high intensity figures or resting rate. As I work in healthcare, I consulted with colleagues on my sleep data which they able to give interesting remarks versus the sleep data from the Flex. As for screen protectors and durability, I don't feel the need as I've already scuffed the band (top and bottom# but one has to be looking for them and in the right lighting conditions. But that's the point - this thing is constructed well. I've been exceeding battery life #3 days versus the rated 48hrs but obviously subject to usage#. The MS Health App, despite sluggish reviews #syncing issues) hasn't given me a single problem and the interface is clean. Had the unit over a week and enjoying the quality.

I have been looking and researching sports bands for a while now and came across this when it was on sale. The biggest quality that caught my attention was all the functionalities such as the GPS and heart rate monitor. I haven't used the GPS yet but the heart rate monitor seems accurate. It does take time to get used to the feel of it but didn't take long. The only downside I see so far is the battery life only lasts a little over a day depending on how much you use it. I take it off at night and don't use it to track my sleep so isn't a big deal for me. Other than that I think it is a great buy for the functionalities and cost.

This is hands down the best fitness band on the market and there's so many other functions I cringe at even calling it that. I can receive and reply to texts, emails, see incoming phone calls, see my Office Calendar, read the news and use Cortana, and do all the fitness stuff including running, biking, weight lifting, have a heart rate and step monitor, sleep monitor, and even pay for starbucks with that app if that's what I wanted to do. I cannot tell you how awesome it is to see my texts and phone calls incoming on my wrist and not have to pull the phone outta my pocket when I'm doing this thing. I absolutely love this thing, and am buying one for my wife. For 200 bucks? Get outta here. unbelievable. Get it.

I purchased this product to keep track of daily activity. It has a heart rate monitor, gps for runs, and a sleep monitor. I have used it daily since I purchased it. I am happy with the results and they seem to be very accurate. The major shortcoming of this product is that the plastic is very soft and scratches easily.

It's a pretty decent first unintentional first attempt for Microsoft. Packed with sensor with very little room for a watch. The Microsoft Band fits somewhere between a fitness band and a smartwatch. It's trying really hard for the latter.
Pros:
-It tracks a lot, steps, calories, heartrate, walked miles, and sleep (it auto-detects sleep) and more recently golf stats....
- built-in mic, light/UV sensor, GPS
Cons:
-because of the rectangular screen, it's on odd shape
-Hear rate monitor isn't accurate 100% of the time
-no sound (for alerts/alarms), only vibration
-about 2 days of battery life (a little over a day in 'watch mode')
-proprietary charge cable

I really like my band. At first I was afraid it was too small, but the band stretched a bit after a couple days.
For running, the GPS is very accurate. Can zoom to the side of the road you were on. Aligned distance with my Garmin.
The sleep functionality made me see that I woke up a lot. Explains why I never feel rested. I was very impressed with the accuracy.
You can download a few online apps to go along with it. Nothing spectacular.
Can also get texts, calls and email alerts.
Rest of the functionality feels forced and incomplete. For what I bought it for, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I have had it for a couple weeks now, and all in all it does as advertised! Have had no issues syncing and it has been fairly accurate in tracking steps etc., as expected. It does a few more things than a fitbit, but an Apple Watch it isn't. For the price point, which has lowered recently, after I purchased a good sale took it down to $159 ($40 off original), and Best Buy took care of the difference for me. All in all if you are looking for good wearable fitness technology that does a little more than a Fitbit, at the same price point, then this is the tech for you. If you want the bells and whistles of an Apple Watch, then hold out and spend a little more to get more. All and All, I am happy with it.

This thing really does have quite a lot of great features that a lot of the fitness wearables out there may also have, but without the sweet display and notifications. Not to mention GPS is great without being tethered to a phone (apple watch I'm talking to you). The fit really isn't as uncomfortable as anyone says; once you get that sweet spot on your wrist you will hardly even notice it...I look forward to the app updates that tell me more about what to do with all of the data this thing can acquire.

Initially not interested in this because it was a Smart watch, with phone and text capabilities, which I was not at all interested in. Was also more than I intended spending. The multi-sport function is not available on many other devices, as well as HR and GPS. This turned out to be the best option offering these features. It took awhile to realize how to keep HR on the home screen, but once I figured out a few functions, it was very easy to navigate. 2 drawbacks,- should be fully charged before workout, battery needs recharging frequently.... and other multi-function devices were waterproof to use for swimming. This one isn't.

What I like about this band is that it has the essential of smart watch at affordable price.. Works fine with my iPhone and links smoothly without any issue. It notify me when emails and text are coming, monitor my activity and sleep, workouts, and my heart rate. It also link to my Facebook and Messenger account, personal email, and read UV exposure. All these feature for less than what I might paid for a smartwatch. All readings is accurate from walking to working out, and the band itself isn't that burdensome to wear because it's light & small unlike the smart watch which is bulky i.e. the size of a watch. Battery last over 2days depending on how often you use the band feature or how long you're wearing the band. As for me I don't wear this 24/7 only when I sleep and workout or doing light chores like gardening, errands, or at work. By the way it also measures calories burned base on your activity. There you have it, get physical and health.

I've owned mine for about a week and so far I'm loving it. It's been working great so I think anybody reporting problems with freezing/reinstalling, etc probably has a lemon and should get a replacement. I use it with my Android phone and the integration is great, although I wish I had a Windows Phone for the Cortana functionality. This is a first-gen product and there are three ways I would improve it:
1. Make it water proof - I'm afraid some day I'm going to forget to take it off before showering, and of course I'd love to track my exercise while swimming, etc.
2. Longer battery life between charges - at my current use, it lasts about a day and a half. In my opinion these smart band/fitness trackers need at least a week. The battery life on this one is shorter of course than, say, a Fitbit Flex, because it has a screen.
EDIT - couple weeks later, and this hasn't been the problem I thought it would be. Basically I charge it in the evening while making/eating dinner when I'm not that active anyway, and about 30-40 minutes later, it's done. Typically, when I plug it in once a day it's at 80%, so I could easily go two days between charges, but making it a habit makes it easy. The battery is rated for 1000 "full" charges (whatever that means) so I figure I have roughly three years.
3. All these types of wearable bands need to include the ability to download a music playlist and listen via headphones, preferably bluetooth. One of the great promises of these things is that I shouldn't have to carry my phone with me when I go for a run.
Finally, I strongly recommend Paul Thurrott's "Microsoft Band Fieldguide" (free) for anyone who owns or is interested in owning a Microsoft Band: [...]
EDIT - couple weeks later, still in love with it, maybe even more :-) Getting notifications on my wrist is even more useful than I realized - I'd become so used to fishing in my pocket for my phone to check text, email, even the time. The weather tile is super useful, as well as the calendar tile, and the sleep tracking is great. They've added a cycling tile since I bought it, and they've opened the API so we'll probably see some third-party tiles available soon.
Some people have had an issue with the fact that, while you can wear the Band with the display on either the outside or the inside of your wrist (sensors work either way), it's really awkward to use when it's on the outside because the display is perpendicular to your arm and therefore you have to twist your hands a bit to use it, so it was clearly designed to be used with the display on the inside of your wrist, which is not the traditional "watch" position. Here are my $0.02 on this:
Back when I wore a watch regularly (at least ten years ago) I always wore them with the face on the inside of my wrist, for two reasons. First, the face was always getting scratched and banged up - maybe I'm clumsy, but I guess my wrist was hitting doors and things a lot. Once I turned it inwards, the scratches stopped. Second, I always found checking the time on the inside of my wrist to be more ergonomic and natural, since you can simply raise your arm and glance down without having to twist your arm and your head slightly the way you do when the face is in the "traditional" position on the outside of your wrist. So obviously the Band is perfectly suited to me, and I think Microsoft took a chance and made a sound decision based on ergonomics, and it's working great. Others will have differing opinions about this, and if it's a showstopper they should stay away from this product, but I for one am a happy camper.

I bought Microsoft Band (1st edition) when it was on sale at bestbuy. MS band 2 was already out and was priced very highly. After going through the specs I decided to buy a MS band (1st edition) at almost 1/3rd of price of the MS band 2. The hardware spec difference was not too much in my opinion. MS band 2 has an UV sensor and feature to count Stairs. Besides that everything else is there in MS band-1. I am very pleased with my purchase of MS band-1 after almost two months of usage. In general use it runs around one and a half day on single battery charge to 100%. The fast charge feature charges the battery from 0 to 80% in almost 30-35 minutes. I first synced it with my Windows Lumia 920 and when I switched to Android I unregistered the band from Lumia and registered it to Android after a reset. In my usage I have found it to be very accurate and very functional. I use it for reading my SMSs, for my alarm, counting my steps, besides other stuff. The Band is comfortable to wear (I use sleep track almost every night) in spite of its unusual looking shape. The only drawback is that it is not scratch resistant. In only 2 months of regular usage my band has got many scratches. However, the black color of the panel does a good job of not making the scratches very visible.

Picked this up to replace a Fitbit. I like the ability to have the phone/email/text notifications appear on the Band. The ability to use the GPS for bike rides and runs is also a great feature.
Con is that the Band is a bit awkward to wear at first, but after a bit of time you come to not notice it at all. The Band2 however adds the ability to monitor stairs climbed and also is much more comfortable.

I love this device, it was priced better than its competitors and holds up beyond my expectations. The sells person clarified its functions in comparison to the Fitbit and besides not being able to change my songs from the device in not missing anything. I am able to monitor my heart rate even while sleeping which is great because I can determine why I'm tired some mornings when my sleep wasn't the best. Plus syncs fast and easily to my smartphone which I can use as documentation if needed for my physician. It records your progress on all activities notifies you when you've reached your goal. I must say I made a wise choice and saved money.

I had a Microsoft Band (the original) for almost a year before upgrading, and as much as I loved the first one, this one is even better.
First let me say, if you're looking for strictly a smart watch, this probably isn't right for you. However, if you're looking for a fitness tracker (which the Band/Band 2 is), then there's nothing better. The Band 2 is more comfortable and better looking than the 1. It has a better interface, especially in the workout screens, and improves on the few limitations of the first. I love being able to run using GPS without having to worry about carrying my phone. The heart rate monitor is consistently pretty accurate, and I really appreciate being able to see how I slept at night. My wife has tried multiple fitbits and garmins, and I can say that the Band 2 is a much better device. If you're looking for a fitness device to help you with your workouts, whether you're in great shape or trying to get started, I would highly recommend the Band 2.

Altogether, this band is great. I have had for about a month and have really enjoyed it, but there are some flaws. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would.
Pros: So many features! Customizable tiles. Great bluetooth compatibility with Facebook messenger, calls, texts, and emails. There's even a fun Starbucks option which means I don't have to take my wallet with me on my Starbucks breaks. The sleep tracker is excellent but seems to eat up the battery very fast, and the UV detector is a fun, if useless for me in Portland, add-on.
Cons: Battery life is a little bit annoying. It lasts 2-3 days on a full charge but it's always hard to choose when to charge it because I want to track my sleep AND my activity. So that's a weird, good problem to have. The flow of it isn't as smooth as the newer models, but that's not a big deal either. Also, it warns me when the battery is low, but doesn't seem to give me any indication right before it's going to die - I just find out when it won't turn on, so don't let that scare you into thinking it's broken.
All in all, a good, fun, useful device that I didn't realize I always could have used. Oh! One extra thing. The connection to my cell phone has made it easier for me to glance at my watch so I'm not trying to text and drive. Way bonus, as I'm paranoid about emergencies, but also know better than to text and drive.
