Not very reliable
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an IT professional with over 20 years of repair experience, so I've had my hands on many different computers over the years. ALL THIS THING LIKES TO DO IS BLUE SCREEN AND SHUT DOWN! I kept fixing all of them and it just kept happening. I figured I would give it a solid couple weeks of use to break it in and give Windows updates the benefit of the doubt. Attachment shows picture of crash history (all the red x's were critical failures resulting in blue screens). As you can see, on 1/31 I started getting critical hardware errors. Not acceptable for a brand-new machine that I dropped over $1000 of hard earned cash on. All the crashes I experienced during my short time of use were during projects that didn't get saved. This will be getting returned and does not have my recommendation. I understand that I can return for a new one and this could just be a lemon. However, my trust is lost and I will be returning to my loyal and trust able Macbook. Dear Microsoft, The Surface Laptop 3 is a beautiful laptop. I was easily persuaded to purchase as soon as I laid my hands on it at Best Buy. Please put more attention to detail on the internals and optimize the OS, which in the end matters the most. No one should have to suffer this much with a band new out of the box laptop. A beautiful, but dead machine doesn't do us any good. Thanks, KRS

Known screen cracking issue! Do not buy!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Warning! Do Not Buy! This computer has well known screen cracking issue, google "surface 2 hair crack" and you will find tons of reports for that. The screen will crack by itself due to design flaw. My six months unit unfortunately got same issue and guess what, Microsoft service dept want $599 for fixed the screen. Lesson learned and over $1000 wasted. Save your hard earned money and stay away from this computer!

MICROSOFT SUCKS!
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish I could've given more but MICROSOFT SUCKS! I love this little laptop when I first got it I've had it for 7 months and it developed a hairline fracture on the screen. The company knows that there's a problem with a fracture on the screen and they refuse to fix it. The hairkine crack turn into a major crack. I'm so upset that this is what happened to my screen. Speed is fine. Battery life gets worse.

$3,000.00 TRASH!!!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer for school which I have things due today. Which I obviously don’t know how I’m going to get down now! and it’s been nothing but problems from the start. I read reviews about people having problems but didn’t listen. I have already given it many chances from it going black when it’s charging to now it went dark out of nowhere while using. it keeps letting me down!!!! The laptop will Randomly go to the darkest setting and will not light up! It’s still on but you can’t see that until you place it under a light. Very very dim straining my eyes to see the off button. But even restarting the laptop has no effect. I’m done with this! Not even a year I’ve owned it! $3000 dollar piece of trash!

DOA. Poor reliability. Great laptop when it works.
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our startup uses Microsoft Surface laptops, and from a performance perspective, they are awesome. I really like them. Super lightweight, awesome monitor, very fast. The main problem is reliability. We've had 2 laptops arrive dead on arrival (blue screen of death every few hours), one laptop lasted 5 months and another laptop lasted just under 2 years. These laptops sit on a desk, plugged into a docking station and almost never move. For a $1300 laptop, I figured they would last a bit longer. They have pretty severe quality issues. In all cases, it seemed to be the SSD. The warranty replacement is pretty seamless (takes about 2 weeks, return the laptop via mail). For laptops beyond the 1 yr warranty, Microsoft does offer a $450 replacement - probably because they have so many unhappy customers. Given the laptop will not last very long, basically consider it to be a $1750 laptop when comparing with other options.

Defective - had to return
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop came highly recommended from several sources. So I purchased it with great confidence. However, on Day 4 I awoke at 6:00 am to the sound of the fan in the device running at full speed and the device was blazing hot. I unplugged it and waited for the store to open at 10:00 am. I returned it and even after four hours, the computer had not cooled down. We were afraid the battery would explode and cause a fire. I'm sure this specific computer was defective - not the entire line. And I'm grateful to Best Buy for their professionalism in handling the return.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MICROSOFT!!!! RUN!!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I could rate lower than 1 I would! This laptop is a piece of junk and Microsoft, liars and thieves. I got this laptop on 2/21/2021, as a replacement for a Surface 2, the battery went bad after the charger went bad. I had purchased that one on 10/6/2019. Well the first day I used the new laptop, I only got 5 hours battery time before I had to recharge it, instead of the 10 advertised. I had the geek squad assess it remotely and was told there was nothing they could do, as the software was okay and they were not allowed to open the laptop to work on the hardware. They told me too take the laptop in to Best Buy and have the technicians there look at it. I did, they ran a Battery Diagnosis test the report of which revealed the battery acting very extreme while charging and while in use. I contacted Microsoft and spoke with Nicolas. We were on the phone for almost 2 hours. During that time he did everything including having me upload my receipt for the 2/21/2021 purchase, giving me a case number, and set me up to get a "BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX" replacement, Nicolas's exact words. I explained to him that I could not afford to be without a laptop for 10 days, as this is the only laptop I have I have no second computer, but would complete the replacement as soon as I could get free time from work. We discussed completing everything on 4/2/2021 when I have vacation time off. Well, I got some time off sooner, and now Microsoft is singing a new tune. They are only willing to send me a REFURBISHED laptop. This in exchange for a laptop I bought brand new 3 weeks ago. The battery is clearly bad and they are taking advantage of me. I am an independent contractor and work from my home. I sacrificed and spent more money than I usually would have for this laptop that was rated at the top of the game back in 2019, when I initially invested in a laptop to run my business. Now I'm stuck with a laptop I have to recharge several times per day. This is worse than the one I turned in 3 weeks ago. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves. Is this how the company makes it's money. Ripping off their customers. Total scum bucks!!!!! By the way BEST BUY, not Microsoft, replaced the laptop 3 weeks ago because I bought an extended warranty from them in 2019 when I purchased the original Surface.

Beware: Overheating issues
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having owned a surface pro tablet for 4 years i was excited to buy a surface pro laptop. Unfortunatly this thing has been a giant headache since i got it. Constantly over heating. Usb port for a mouse is on the leaving it sometimes unreliable in how the mouse picks up signal. You cannot charge it and use it or it overheats. Prolonged use…overheats. It sucks. I wanted to like this very badly and i just dont. For the cost this should be a perfect functioning product and it has a long long way to go. I would not reccomend buying this product at all.

Not happy!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me first start by saying I was happy with this purchase initially. My screen randomly developed hairline cracks. I was baffled as I didn't damage the screen. A quick google search revealed that this problem is happening to surface laptops where small hard particles are damaging the screen. These articles stated that Microsoft would replace for free. (With a refurbished device) My limited warranty with Best Buy ended and I was told to contact Microsoft. Not only did they refuse to replace it, they sent the device back and told me to send it back in a second time. First, there was no way I caused this damage and second, their customer service is the worst. Also getting a refurbished device is not was what I was wanting after spending a hefty amount on this laptop. I would NOT purchase again.

Bad main board, Best Buy and Microsoft not helping
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Poor support from Microsoft and Best Buy would not allow me to return non functional laptop Spent the extra money on the surface for my wife’s business. It intermittently would freeze and not power on. Microsoft support wanted a diagnostic tool run next time it powered on and gave many week repair timeline, and Best Buy would not accept back. We are stuck with a non-functional laptop and cannot spend weeks and will likely purchase another laptop and absorb the cost due to business need. I spent more on this laptop expecting better quality and support. The laptop has been babied and I worked in IT before, and am not impressed with Microsoft home user support and run around. We expected in home support in days and not weeks of run around for a brand new machine. Suggest HP or Lenovo laptop due to my experience, if buying for home use.

Waste of $$$g connection/wireless card defect
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not buy this again. It has a serious connection issue which I suspect stems from the wireless card. I say this because I purchased two around the same period. One from the Microsoft store where the connection was going on and off and as of today as completely stopped connecting (while all other devices in my home are still connected) and this one I am reviewing, purchased from Best Buy that has the same issue of connection going out and me having to keep reconnecting several times ..I suspect it’s also building up to the point of complete dégradation like my Microsoft store bought one. In addition, this one from Best Buy also has this weird thing where it will freeze a small section of my previous screen and keep it on the new screen I am browsing, blocking my view . Not a good buy at all..

Great idea, terrible reliability
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should have known better being a professional IT technician not to buy anything with Microsoft's name on it. If there's one thing they're known for it's being unreliable. I took a chance since I really liked the form factor and the specs were pretty great. I wish I just bought an XPS instead. This is inferior in every way, slower, throttles constantly just by having a couple tabs open, unreliable. Constant driver issues. The surface dock 2 stops working all the time and you have to play with it to get it working again. Once again Microsoft comes up with a great idea but fails to deliver on reliability.

Poor battery
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ended up giving my HP away after I purchased this laptop and I made a huge mistake. The battery on this laptop is very poor. at 8am before I leave for school it is 100% by 1pm I have 15% left and I can not take my exam on it until I plug it in. The batter makes this laptop very unreliable. If I wasn't past my 30 days I would end up returning it. Save your money and buy a better laptop. The price of this laptop does not match the poor battery quality at all.

worst Buy Surface laptop 3
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a terrible laptop. I have had this laptop less than 2 years and it is acting up the screen shuts off by itself and ever so often there is this weird thing on the screen and the screen freezes and then goes blank. there is also the part where your saved documents get lost and save in places where you did not save them. this is a terrible buy. I made the mistake of going from apple to this. I have used Apple for the last 8 years before switching with no problems.

Sad Story!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this device on January 30, and now it does not even turn on. I have not even used it that much. I took it back to Best Buy, and they told me that I have to contact Microsoft directly because they can not open the device. The charger is working fine, but there's no enough power getting to the keyboard. I have to ship the device to Microsoft for them to try to fix it. If it can not be fixed, then they will replace it with a refurbished one. What a joke! The rich getting richer taking advantage of the poor! Sad Story!
