Customers are satisfied with the Surface Laptop 3's lightweight design, ease of use, and keyboard quality. Many appreciate its portability and sleek aesthetics, while some find the battery life to be a positive feature. Serious flaw prevents it from being great

I've had this laptop for about 5 weeks now and I have nothing but good things to say about the specs, performance, and ease of use for the casual user. The build quality is fantastic, probably the sleekest, best laptop I've ever owned. It's Windows, so you probably already know what you're getting in terms of software. HOWEVER, about two weeks ago, coincidentally after performing a software update, I've had some bad luck with this laptop. In the middle of nearly every use, the screen either freezes or the computer shuts down entirely. Now, I was highly anticipating this laptop and it has delivered on almost all fronts as I mentioned in the first paragraph, but when the computer essentially freezes and I have to power it back on again, it's extremely frustrating, as this laptop was not cheap (for the specs, I felt that it was, but a computer is still a significant investment). I have not called Microsoft support, as I'm sure they would have told me to just do a factory reset, which I'm not sold on. I wish I could have given this laptop rave reviews, but until this flaw gets fixed, I am fairly dissatisfied.

Buzzing sound under keyboard, fan issues

I went through 2 of these Surface Laptops, and I really wanted to like it. The 3:2 screen is excellent for productivity, the keyboard is wonderful to type on, and the alcantara finish on the inside is super comfortable. But after going through 2 of these and having similar issues between them, I decided to get something else. The first one had an issue with the fans where they would sound like they were constantly and quickly revving up and down in speed. Like a car trying to turn over. Not just that, but there was a static buzzing noise under the keyboard, right near the F12 key. I exchanged it for another one, and while the fans were much better on the new laptop, the annoying buzzing sound remained. Looking online, the buzzing sound has been a common complaint since the laptop's launch, and the most Microsoft has done to address it is apparently telling people that it's 'normal'. I'm sorry, but an electrostatic-sounding buzz under the keyboard should not normal for any laptop. It's very audible and very annoying if you're in a quiet room.

Not happy with 720p Camera - Grainy Video Call

The laptop is beautifully designed! Easy to use, not preloaded with unnecessary applications. However the camera is not 1080p (which I wish I would have known prior my 14 days or else I would have returned) the camera is grainy and terrible on zoom calls. I'm so upset about it. Definitely a deal breaker. I do not recommend if you will make video calls. Just horrible.

    Wifi issues ruin it

Before purchasing, please, please PLEASE google 'surface 3 laptop wifi issues'. It's a known issue and seems like it will never be fixed. The only way around it I found was to turn on airplane mode before closing the lid so that the driver wouldn't know I put the laptop to sleep. But if your connection drops for any reason, you'll have to toggle airplane mode again to reset it. For a laptop this expensive, we should not have to deal with issues like this. If it were a $300 laptop, sure. But not $1000. Also, the machine runs hot. REALLY hot. My macbook air can sit on the bed while I stream netflix and the bottom stays totally cool to the touch, and the fan doesn't have to come on. This one's fan goes crazy after just a few minutes and feels extremely hot on the bottom even when I have it sitting on a table. When it does windows updates I have to literally open my window and set the laptop on the ledge so it gets cooled by the winter air. It's that hot. Long story short: I returned it. The touch screen was beautiful and amazing and even works with my HP pen. so I was really unhappy that the experience was ruined by these two major issues. So close to being a great laptop.

Purchased this computer for school because it was said to be good and not have problems. Two weeks after buying it it completely went black and wouldn’t turn back on. Other than that problem good size easy to use

It runs good and very sleek, just overheated really fast and was told buy sales associate that it didn’t overheat from bottom of the laptop. Was told fans were out the top.

    New Laptop setup issues

After purchasing the Laptop 3, I scheduled an appointment to have the New Laptop set up and also to tune up another laptop with the Geek Squad. On the New Laptop I have had to return back to Best Buy 4-times for issues that are still up to date unresolved. I will have to return back to the store with hopes that it will be the final time for the results that we should have received after the first visit. This has not only been time consuming but also inconvenient as it is and easy 16 mile drive for me each way.

This was way off my expectations. Not as powerful as advertised. It looks stunning but that's all about it. Screen is super reflective. The main problem being, it heats up pretty bad in minutes time to time, specially when charger is plugged in. Get a MacBook or any other laptop instead and save the frustration!!

The laptop has been nothing but issues. The fan runs loud whenever it wants to, the brightness control keeps lowering when I open my laptop, and sometimes it just doesn't turn on. Very poor quality.

Ive only had it for 2 months and I'm already having issues. Pages dont reload when I reopen my window/tab. The laptop, despite being fully charged, wont turn on. I have tried every key trick and the general power button but nothing helps. I literally have to wait around for when it decides to turn on which is useless when you work digitally from home. Ive never dropped or scratched it. It doesnt leave my desk. Anyways, I love the way it looks and the first month was amazing. Now its meh.

After 1 yr of using this laptop on a part-time basis, the results are disappointing. For the first 6 months the laptop worked well and I used it constantly. At the 1 yr anniversary (after the warranty expired), the monitor started freezing once in a while, then almost every time I use it. I have to complete a hard reset each time I use it. For the price, I am very disappointed. The support has been mediorce at best.

Not a fan to be honest, it is heavier than expected and the monitor is quite too bright even in the lowest setting, my eyes got very dry after few hours of work. If you want it for email and browsing it is perfect. But not for work, the performance was not impressive compared with MacBook Air or Lenovo X13. I finished returning it and buying a Lenovo X13. That is a great work laptop. Why not the Mac? The limitation with no Wifi6 available in the current models was pretty much the big factor

I don't like this Microsoft Surface 3 which I bought to replace my larger touch screen Dell with Microsoft Office 13. The newer software is constantly sending notifications on my email offering to set up accounts for what I am looking at and selling other stuff I don't want. Also the background light gets brighter and darker for no reason. It is so skinny and slick it slips off your lap easily. I would prefer a wider screen.

From the moment the computer was set up and started functioning there were problems with the computer going to a blue screen and restarting due to stop code errors, which were many. This happened frequently enough to not even bother with trying to accomplish anything and return the laptop. When the laptop is functioning it works great but the problem is achieving uninterrupted use.

The alcantera deck lid flexes - A LOT. While typing it was bouncing up and down like crazy. While it's more repairable than past generations, I'm still concerned that replacing the battery is too invasive, check YouTube videos on that. I also think there's a missed opportunity in not having a yoga-style hinge here for better media consumption.

On the very first day, my computer glitched. I tried turning it off but that didn’t work so I had to force reboot it. The following days that led on, things seemed normal. Though there were times where my computer froze or glitched. I found the outer display to be stunning but the quality did not meet my satisfaction.

It’s a little tricky to navigate through laptop. You may click on a tab but it will automatically pop out screen instead of just going to the page. Also, the screen layout will change automatically just by scrolling through it. Never had those issues before but it’s rather disappointing. Speed is good though.
