Premium device for a premium price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had mixed results with this device but overall it was a decent machine. This was intended to be my mobile machine for grad school. This is my first windows machine in a few years and my first portable windows device since my Surface Pro 3 in 2014. It was replacing the higher tiered MBP 13, which had issues in its own right for sure. Pros- -Fast at everything I tested it for: multiple Office apps, browser tabs, and pdf files. -Windows 10/One Drive is better than the last time I used a PC at all since about 5 years ago. -Looks incredible. Matte black is a great look, this was one of the most attractive devices I've seen. -Keyboard is the best I've typed on from any portable device or desktop device. Front to back slope was perfect for me. This would have been a comfortable way to type a couple hundred pages of research. -Screen is sharp, large at 13.5, and touch provided some conveniences. -1 of each port and a proprietary charging port is nice compared to Macbooks of comparable pricing. You don't really need a dongle and you don't lose a port for charging. Plus the power brick as a usb port on it and a flat cord. These are nice touches for a premium feel. Cons- -Mine always had issues with the camera. I went through about 15 hours of trouble shooting, tech support, reinstall of every level, and countless restarts to try and fix this. Facial recognition had about a 50% success rate. The camera app was functional less than that. Maybe it's an issue with the FR software, maybe it was just my unit. -Premium price. I only bought this one because was at great sale price and I hate the material of the less expensive one. I don't use 256gb worth of storage on portable devices. So for 1300 does it have the same value for more space and the all metal body? That's up to you but consider the comparable Macbook Air for the same price; almost identical processor, twice the storage, but a slightly smaller screen without touch. -The finish was incredible looking but attracted dust like no other. -The surface pen is nice and the touch screen is convenient but it would the form limits the function of it for those who might be interested or tempted in using these features full time. I ended up exchanging mine. I just don't feel a 1300 laptop should require a part time job worth of trouble shooting to get a camera working. This is pretty basic in 2020. Maybe had this not happened I would have kept it and been happy, but somewhere around hour 2 it occurred to me that I could find a windows machine with the same performance and touch functionality for half the cost. I would still recommend the device for some folks but if you are a student or on a budget keep researching your options.

Swing and a Miss
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to love this laptop - it has such an elegant design and seems like the perfect ultrabook; but, unfortunately, strange bugs and poor quality control make this laptop miss the mark. First, let's talk about the positive. This is probably one of the nicest looking and feeling laptops I have ever used. It's refined form factor, sleek angles. and light weight exude a premium feel. I also really like the alcantra fabric keyboard, and it's a real shame Microsoft only offered this option on a limited number of configurations. The keyboard and trackpad are also positives - both are incredibly responsive and have a great feel to them. In addition, the touchscreen is incredibly responsive and useful (Apple - take note - touchscreens are not a bad thing). Despite these refined features, the device ends up feeling cheap after only a few hours of use. For one, there is horrendous light-bleeding along the bottom edge of the screen. Second, the auto-brightness is erratic and downright annoying - seemingly adjusting for no rhyme or reason every few seconds - yes, you can disable this setting, but I have a hard time accepting that as a solution to a problem. Finally, the speakers on my unit would periodically emit a popping sound; I suspect this is something that is software versus hardware related, but it's an unsettling sign for a brand new laptop. Windows is better than ever, but it's still plagued by a frustrating update process and random bugs - Windows updates seem to bring more problems than they solve, and Microsoft really needs to figure out a better process for ensuring update releases that people can trust. In the brief time I spent with the laptop I found performance to be adequate for normal tasks. Overall, this is not the laptop for me - too many minor bugs and glitches add up to taint what is otherwise a potential game-changing laptop. Maybe next year, Microsoft....

Buy the Surface laptop 4, not 3!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start with this computer is beautiful but has many flaws. The design is very attractive, its sleek, it feels nice, its easy to use, and the display was great. Being an Xbox gamer I chose this over a MacBook pro just because of the seamless integration of windows across all my devices and I needed something for on the go use with work or army classes or some light gaming. I have three problems since buying this thing. One, the fan is loud and it gets hot, even with light use such as browsing YouTube and uploading some iCloud drive or one drive files. Second, the performance is terrible. I expected a lot more performance compared to the money I payed. "Light" Gaming means extra light, this thing struggles to run even very old games. I struggled to get any quality and resolution from Rome total war 2. Battery life is also terrible compared to some other devices such as a MacBook pro. I purchased this a month before realizing they were dropping the surface laptop 4 which is has those much needed upgrades. For those of you shopping, go with the Surface laptop 4!

Too fragile?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer overall is great. I travel every month and for the first time in my last trip 3 days ago, I didn't put laptop in its case, I decided to put in my purse. While I was in the plane I decided to turn it on, I was in shock to find a crack right below camera. I didn't drop or hit it with anything. I have been always very careful with any electronic I bought throughout the years. Never bought any protection plan, I guess I should have bought one this time. Laptop seems to be very fragile. So, if you are planning to buy one, get the protection plan.

Please read: good machine with a few quirks
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The auto/adaptive brightness and contrast cannot be turned off without switching to incompatible graphics drivers which causes other problems so do not buy if you don't like auto brightness. It feels high quality. It can run hot. The hinge is great and it was easy to use a pen with it even though it can't fold all the way back. The keyboard feels good. It was hard to put the charger in when it is on a table. The screen has good brightness. I had problems with glare. Pretty silent even when running at max capacity. All in all, a good machine if you don't mind the things listed here. Given the fact that it had so many little problems I think it is overpriced for the specs. But it all felt high quality. In the end, auto brightness was a deal breaker for me, but some people love it or don't even notice it.

I absolutely loved it, but I returned it...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was coming from a MacBook Air 2019... I wanted to try something new... When I opened the box, I absolutely fell in love with the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3... It was beautiful, screen was robust and gorgeous and the keyboard, WOW... loved it... but 2 hours with it, after setup, it started heating up... it was so hot that the top of the box that I had it in stated to somewhat melt, the charging brick was so hot, I couldn't even touch it... unsure why but I read up and it is common... I bought the first generation Surface Tablet and it went back because it heated up as well, thinking years have passed, it would have been fixed and improved... but from what I experienced with this beautiful machine, it wasn't... I was sooooooooooo sad... this machine was sooooooooooo beautiful and it really edged out aesthetically the MacBook Air... Maybe I had a defective machine, I really wanted to love it, but alas I returned it... maybe in 2 years again I will give it a try... I got it at a really good price too... BestBuy Elite Member Pricing... I love BestBuy!

Not too bad....
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 16" laptop finally died. It was so heavy and bulky. So I wanted something thinner and lighter in weight. This is ALL that. Unfortunately it is a tad too small for me. When I am typing, I think I graze the touchpad below. That causes the cursor to move to the wrong place. In the middle of typed work. That is why I think it was overpriced. So I'm still getting used to it. I look forward to taking this on vacation or trip. Whenever this COVID is under control.

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the surface laptops except for one big problem. The lack of a Thunderbolt 3 port. Microsoft states its due to reliability, I feel they don’t want to pay the Intel tax to use it. The inability to transfer large files 50gb very quickly just crush this and make me stick to my Mac and Razer Blade 13. I love the build, weight, keyboard of the surface. But going from a T3 to USB-C is like going from a Mustang to a Focus.

Nothing Special
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was expecting more since this was a very pricy purchase. Nope, nothing special. Does the same thing as any other. I did like that it was lightweight. The matte black color was nice, but smudges at the slightest touch.

Otherwise Fantastic Experience Ruined
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Especially when factoring in discounts, the Surface Laptop 3 is arguably the perfect multipurpose laptop for the price for anyone who doesn’t need serious graphics performance (like for games or 4K video editing). Everything about it was perfect, from the screen to the keyboard to the trackpad, to the amazing to the overall build quality. The only reason why this isn’t a 5 star is because of the crackling sound in the speakers that happens whenever switching between windows programs occurred. It couldn’t be fixed by any of the measures found on the web, even by factory resetting the device. I swapped it out for a new one and the same thing happened. It was a very disappointing dealbreaker, and a problem that Microsoft needs to sort out...

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this device for 3 months. Bought to use for work during home work and personal usage. Extremely frustrated with the internet connectivity issues. I have returned one laptop only to experience the same issue with the new product. I have purchased the Surface for college student so decided to try the laptop for myself. I usually purchase Dell products. The postitive is that the keyboard and microsoft apps helps to add to better performance and usage. I could get that with other products so not unique to Surface Laptop 3.

LCD Issues
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is nice and sleek. The video and audio quality is awesome. The battery heats up very quickly. I had an issue with the LCD after only 4-weeks of owning the device and no one has been able to explain to me exactly what caused it (it wasn't on my end). The closest anyone has come to an explanation is that the panel overheated. The manufacturer didn't give me a hard time and graciously provided me a brand new replacement. So far, no issues, but it's only been a few weeks...fingers crossed, I won't have any issues.

BAD experience but great potential
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the surface to replace my 6 yr laptop. I've been wanting one forever so was very excited. But you can get bettr for same price or cheaper. Feels expensive and sound is really good and def a competitor of the mac book as far as looks go. BUT the system started crashing within a week of use (blue screen of death). Also lack of ports means you have to buy an adapter. Asus Zenbook and others offer better storage, system, and ports for same $$.

The good and the bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like this computer. Of all of the 13+" computers, this had the best screen size. It was taller vertically that made it seemed bigger than it's stated size. I really like the keyboard as it was very roomy and I have big hands. I also liked the Alcantara fabric surface. I wasn't too bothered by the minimal number of ports and it connected to a bluetooth mouse easily. It was fast and booted up very quickly. But I didn't keep the laptop in the end. The battery life was poor, much less than what it stated. My old Dell Latitude keeps a charge much longer and the battery life doesn't decrease as quickly, and it's removable. When the battery life on this laptop starts to degrade then you're looking at a very big expense to get it replaced, and based on how it was performing I don't think it will last very long. And it's already an expensive laptop. If it wasn't for that I would have kept it as I really think it has a lot of positives.

Buzzing noise and hardwar flaws kill the potential
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When you pick up your laptop, bring your ear close to the back of it, and listen to the distracting buzzing noise. All the versions on display also seemed to have this problem, although some much louder than others. I had to return 4 surface laptops (black aluminum) for different hardware/manufacturing defects. Each time, it would be a new problem. Come on Microsoft. You can manufacture consistent high quality. It should not be up to luck if i get a flawless laptop. Flimsy keyboard, shaky track pad, one would not charge, and the buzzing noise in all of them. Very distracting when studying in quite space. I'm giving this latest one another week to see if i can stand this louder than normal buzzing noise. Very disappointed. I was very excited about this laptop. Microsoft let me down.

Great Machine with some Big Downsides
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start with my biggest issue. Windows includes an auto contrast feature which as opposed to the auto brightness feature is unable to be turned off. You can try Intel software and Registry Editing but nothing works to turn it off on this machine. This leads to the display turning off completely when in a low light condition with the screen brightness as low as possible which is when I use the laptop the most. The battery life and thermals aren't the best but if you're willing to bring down the resolution this machine is great. Overall I would recommend looking for the laptop for under $800 because I feel spending anything over may be a waste.

Love the laptop but USB port is a problem
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the overall design of the laptop but after a few weeks the USB port started not recognizing my mouse. I hear the sound of it connecting and then disconnecting several times in a row, and this happens pretty much every day. I tried my roommate's mouse and the same thing happens with that one. It's super frustrating because this computer only has one USB port and it's been over a month since I've had it, so I doubt Best Buy can do anything about it. I was so excited to finally have a good laptop for grad school and this is just a huge disappointment.

Looks Nice But Freezes Often
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased for my son for virtual schooling. We have an intermittent issue whereas the screen will just freeze when more than one program is open. When I saw more than one program, I'm talking a web browser and an educational game. Nothing that should be difficult for this type of hardware. For the money, this machine is not worth it. The quality of the integration of hardware and software is lacking, perhaps there was some rush to get this product out the door due to the heightened demand for laptops during COVID-19.
