Microsoft has a winner

I have not always been much of a Microsoft supporter. Some if their softeware seems less than intuitive. But after buying the top of the line Surface Pro 3, I'm really impressed. This highly portable tablet does everything my desktop Asus does, and does it faster. Now when I travel, it's as if I'm bringing a desktop with me...but carried in my backpack. If I had to find some small thing to complain about, I'd say the price of buying a second backup charge cord is a bit steep. That is hardly a big deal. When you compare the Pro 3 to anything else on the market, you have to give Microsoft a thumbs up for true innovation. I7 chip...half terabit solid state drive...great keyboard for a mobile one...and good screen resolution. It's not a cheap purchase ... about $2400 total with all the extras I bought including the base station. But I'd do it again in a flash. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I bought this model with full expectations of being impressed but it definitely exceeded expectations. Performance was great, the size was excellent and the Surface Pro itself feels great on the hands. The only thing that is missing from making it a 5 star product is that the fans tend to kick on (understandably) very often. They're not too loud but its noticeable. I also wish the keyboard was included instead of the stylus. I'm not a creative so use of the pen was fairly limited.

The Surface Pro 3 i7 is the top of the line (for now) and is worth every penny. I bought a Toshiba Radius 2in1 i7 for my girlfriend, and this matches it in every aspect.
The pros - very lightweight, easy to use, carry and store. The touchscreen is intuitive and the onscreen keyboard is perfect for everyone. The keys are actually just a little larger than my desktop keyboard, which is nice.
The cons- there is only one con with the Surface Pro 3s, and that is the price. The price of the machine itself, then the fact that you have to buy all the add-ons if you want them, and those aren't particularly cheap either. The price is what takes away the 5th star.
Still, if you have the ability to afford one, they are perfect for an on-the-go person who wants to be connected with all the functions of a normal PC machine, but feel that even a laptop is too bulky.

I bought this to use as a replacement for an aging laptop and absolutely love it, I have the docking station at my office where I can use it just like a desktop. Then I can take it home each night and use it like a laptop or tablet. It is powerful enough to easily run anything I throw at it. I've been using it for a few months now and remain pleased with the quality of the machine, the available accessories and the consistent operation.

I do not use the term perfect easily but that is how I feel about the Microsoft Surface Pro3. It is flexibile in its use, quality made, it performs, and it is well designed. I have zero complaints about any aspect of the device. I was in the market for an ultrabook or small footprint laptop with good horsepower... And have a touchscreen which works well with Win8. Laptops with my requirements are minimal but the Suface checked all of my boxes. You will not be disappointed if you buy one.

The Surface Pro is a great machine for both casual use and business. It has a lot of power packed into a small and lightweight device. The Pen is a really cool feature for drawing and note taking. I recommend this machine.

It is doing what I was looking for. Works well docked and as a laptop. Still learning to use as tablet. The one consideration is that sometimes the characters on screen are very small. I have learned how to use the Magnifier app under windows 8 when I need larger size.

the Surface Pro 3 is an excellent machine. It really makes a difference in my activities of daily living. It is so fast in comparison with a slow laptop trhat I have been using before. The fact that I can sign documents right there on the screen is a big plus.

You would think something so small would have issues, but nope. This thing works great with inventor. Only problem I found was using the wireless display adapter. Image comes up but gets laggy or choppy while in use. Great thought but still needs some work. Other than that this thing is fast and works great.

I'm a long-time laptop user. My last PC was a Lenovo Yoga 13 which was a good attempt at combining the benefits of a laptop and a tablet, but it was still too much like a laptop. I've owned different variations of the Surface devices (Surface, Surface Pro, Surface 2) so I knew what to expect. The convergence of all of the things that make this Surface 3 are great. I am particularly looking forward to the release of Windows 10 which will remedy some weaknesses of the operating system. It is important to separate the hardware from the software when discussing the device in a review like this. The OS improvements will only serve to make the device even that much more.

This is the perfect combination of laptop and tablet. It is soooooo fast, and has just the right features. Though I am aware that it is not exactly the same as a laptop, it sure feels similar. Very awesome since I travel so much!

Good Performance but Small Screen for a Laptop

It is a nice machine but if you are going to use it as a laptop then screen size is very small. You have to use extra monitors to be able to use it as laptop. Otherwise you can use it as a tablet. Performance wise it is good. The accessories like Type Cover and Docking station makes it expensive.

The Surface looks cool, no doubt about it. But after the excitement dies down you're left with a fiddly, confused mess. The only time I found myself truly being productive with this machine was when I was sitting at a desk with a bluetooth mouse. Even then, it's a pain to set up. It takes up more space on your desk since the kickstand has to stick out the back. And you need to have a clear, level space or else it's a rocking mess.
The fact you have to buy the keyboard cover separately is a joke! I dare anyone to use this without ever attaching a physical keyboard and mouse. Sometimes Windows just demands the precision. And for the $130 you pay for the keyboard cover, you get a terrible trackpad and subpar typing experience. Honestly, the trackpad is way too small and way too finicky. Microsoft hardware on a Microsoft OS... you'd think they'd be able to get even close to the quality of Apple's circa 2008. Sure, it's a new OS and it might have some bugs, but more than once I tried to wake up my Surface and needed to type in my pin... only the on-screen keyboard wouldn't appear! I didn't have my keyboard with me so I had to hard power it down. It was beyond frustrating.
Windows just doesn't know what to do with this thing. You can't sleep the screen without the entire computer going into "connected" standby. That means none of your desktop apps will run unless the screen is on. You cannot fix this unless you disable the ability to sleep entirely. And if it's been in standby for 4 hours, it hibernates. So the next time you grab your Surface you get to enjoy a 20 second wait while it reboots. Sometimes I swear it went into hibernation minutes after putting it to sleep. Oh, disable hibernation? Then say goodbye to your battery.
I'm disappointed because the Surface is such a beautiful machine. It's really cool that this incredibly thin device is your entire computer. The body feels solid, and the kickstand is pretty amazing. I love this thing until the screen comes on and I have to use it. I was coming from a MacBook, so I thought I'd give myself some time to adjust. But two months later it's still one of the most fiddly and frustrating computing experiences I've ever had.

Tablet To Replace Laptop

I purchased the tablet to completely replace my 4 year old laptop and I am thoroughly satisfied with this tablet. I travel to several conferences throughout the year either by car or plane so having a lightweight tablet is essential. Being able to get through TSA checkpoints without having to empty a bag is great. Carrying a tablet is just like carrying around a daily planner so I'm not wore out from lugging it around by the end of the day. I was able to transfer all of my Office products with one phone call so that was a plus as well. Again, it was a great purchase for what I do on a daily basis.

I am very impressed with the quality and speed of the Surface Pro 3. My intention is to eventually replace my desktop computer with this Tablet/Laptop. It was easy to set up, appears to hold a charge well. With the keyboard attached, it may be a little difficult to use on your lap, but I generally will use a laptop board to support it. I highly recommend this product.

I just replaced my Lenovo X201 with the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. So far everything has been extremely easy to setup and the computer functions as a laptop replacement, hands down and also has the functionality and usability of a tablet. I work as an Applications Engineer and use this mostly for designing projects in custom Excel macros and relaying the information to MS Word proposals. So perhaps I dont use the SP3 to its fullest capability, but so far I love it.

With Office installed, it performs better that my old or work laptops.
When my cable went out, I could stream live TV from the Surface to my flat screen with the attachment to connect to the TV.
Capable of professional presentations with the monitor attachment. GREAT JOB MICROSOFT.
