Customers value the engaging gameplay, compelling story, and innovative Nemesis System in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Many also praised the open world and smooth controls. While some found the difficulty challenging and the ending underwhelming, the overall experience was largely positive. A few players noted some repetitiveness in the gameplay.

Great Game with new game mechanics
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I pre-ordered this game when it first came out based on early previews and was not disappointed. The new Nemesis system is great, you get to manipulate your enemies and shape what is happening in the game world [to a certain extent]. Combat is reminiscent of the Arkham games, just with swords, daggers, and bows instead of the Dark Knight's usual gadgets. This game is on the periphery of the Middle Earth world and it works great this way, just touching on events and characters enables this to weave it's own story in that universe. Highly recommend.

A Game Changer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably one of the most underrated games, Shadow of Mordor lets you play as a ranger fighting for revenge -- a quest that puts you directly against Sauron's forces. The combat system is great, and if you like Assassin's Creed and the Batman Arkham series, you'll love this game. One of the game's highlights is the way you'll use your powers and command to instill fear in the Uruk horde. You can threaten generals, find weaknesses, plot takeovers and use fear to your advantage. Would highly recommend this for gameplay and story.

Very Fun Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this game not really knowing what I was going to get myself into. Honestly my expectation was kind of low, but I had a few friends who said it was fun, so I decided to try it out. I had so much fun. Yes at some points it may have gotten a little frustrating, and there are some parts I would like to change or add, but that comes with all games. Overall I had so much fun playing and finishing this game. I had about 37 hours into it when I finished, and that included only a few of the side missions, but mostly just consisted of main objectives and the progression to get to those main objectives.

Satisfying Gore
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While not as steeped in lore for serious fans as I would like, the gameplay is terrific. I never thought that I could spend so many hours slaughtering the armies of Sauron! The combat system is fluid, and the world is stunningly rendered.

Enjoying this game so far...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm only about five hours into the game - so keep that in mind. Overall, the gameplay is fantastic. The Nemesis System in the game makes it a more unique adventure/action experience. It's essentially Rocksteady's Batman games blended with some Assassin's Creed, set in Tolkien's universe. The only drawback so far is the environments. There isn't much variety. The environments are murky with a lot of brown and gray hues. There may be a break from this, as I'm only partially through the game, and it's a minor criticism. Overall, worth a purchase if you're into the action/adventure genre.

Great Game Set In Middle-Earth
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game basically takes the stealth and fighting from Assassin's Creed and Batman, but improves on both. Assassin's Creed makes you run around spending more time gathering collectibles than fighting in combat. The recent Batman games have a great combat system built around counters and special moves. Shadow of Mordor focuses on the combat and Nemesis system (Orc Captains and Warchiefs) instead of making you track down 100s of collectibles (boring). I have killed many Orc leaders in my 25 hour game time and not one looked the same nor had the same name. Every captain and warchief feels unique, and I think that is awesome. The story line of the game is interesting, and if you do all side quests and battle it out with the orcs, then this game can easily take you 30+ hours. The graphics look pretty good, especially the close up shots of the orcs. I am very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend this game, especially if you like the lore of Middle-Earth..

Excellent game, lots of fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is the "Game Of The Year" for a reason. People who have played AC & Batman may find the stealth / combat system familiar but that is all there is. The game is its own and has excellent combat. The story is interesting too though not canon with LOTR. The nemesis system is really unique and gives a new edge to the game. If you like RPG-like games or hack-slash games, this is a must have.

Worth the wait!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been waiting for this game since I heard about it. As a big fan of Middle Earth - I have played pretty much all the previous attempts to create an immersive, yet playable game based on this world. Although some weren't bad, this is the first one that knocks it out of the park. I blew through 6 straight hours after putting it in my Xbox One last night. Plenty of action with the role playing elements that allow you to play to your own style. The nemesis system is a great addition and creates a unique undertone to your game. I found myself developing personal dynamics between myself and the characters (especially the ones that killed me more than once! I want revenge!). Great gameplay, great graphics, immersive and engaging world and characters - in my opinion, it's the best Xbox One game yet.

Excellent Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whether or not you're familiar with the Lord of the Rings lore, this game is excellent and worth your time. The story, the aesthetics, and the combat system are all top-notch. There's a lot to explore here, and replay value is high. It's well worth your time and money to give Mordor a visit.

Fun game - got a little repetitive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a fun game to play through. I didn't really know what was going on with the story most of the time, but just followed the guides to go to the next tasks. The Nemisis system was neat, but again, I couldn't always follow what was going on with the movement and how everything affected the promotions, etc. (I was just looking for action in the game!). Overall, fun to play.

Game of the Year
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a game! It is great to see a game that can take the Lord of the Rings mythology and add in a new story line that is intriguing and exciting to be in. Take the controls as a ranger with wraith powers as you cut down Sauron's captains and horde of orcs. Learn to control them and have them fight along side you in your quest. The Nemesis system is very innovative and fun to plan strategy with. The game can be difficult at times since the orcs are constantly spawning, but once you learn the controls and gain more power you will run into the groups of enemies looking for a fight. This game is a must buy, and is on it's way to earning a game of the year award.

enjoying it so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the combat/controls are good, the game has very good graphics, and while I haven't made it too far into the story so far to make a judgement on that, the nemesis system provides ample reason to continue progressing through the game. the need for revenge after an uruk captain berates you for coming back when he's killed you three previous times is great.

I was shocked!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally do not like the games that come from a "Movie"... but WOW I was shocked! This is a really good game. Fighting and hunting Orcs is a great concept. If you haven't seen this game check out YouTube but you will not be disappointed if you buy it. Have fun!

An unexpectedly great game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I say unexpectedly having read all of the great reviews, but I got it as strictly a time killer while I was waiting for Elder Scrolls Online to go live. I didn't really have any intention of getting very far in the story mode, I just wanted to knock around in the world for three weeks or so. The combat system was so much fun that I could have just done that for the whole time. I ended up completing a lot of the side quests and actually did start the story mode because the game play was just that strong. Given the fact that the game has been out for a bit now and you can get it at an extremely discounted price, it's a no brainer and would have been worth it on launch day.

An amazing sandbox game.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me just up and say that Shadows of Morder is THE best sleeper hit of the year. Forget Destiny, forget CoD. This game took the cake in sheer gameplay value over anything else I've played this fall. If you know anything about the game than you won't be disappointed in the purchase. The Nemesis system that they've boasted during production is absolutely awesome. No two encounters feel exactly the same. Each orc has its own personality and particular fighting style. They also all have different traits, from the lowly peon up to the battle hardened war chiefs. The combat is also top notch. Taking the best aspects of Assassins Creed, and combining it with the free flow combat of the Batman Arkham games. Stringing together brutal combos and deadly execution moves from stealth or open combat is a real breeze. Despite the ease of usage, the combat itself contains a fair amount of challenge. You need to pay attention to prompts and the enemies around you as the right hit can kill you very quickly. I could likely go on and on about this game. But you just have to play for yourself to see how great it turned out to be after the long production timeline.

Great action RPG
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Combat flows really well (think Batman). Story is interesting; rather than a copy-paste of LOTR games, Mordor seems to primarily draw from the Silmarillion. Voice acting is top-notch across the board, and the nemesis system keeps everything interesting - enemies remember you, whether you defeated them, or they defeated you.

Best Middle Earth Game Yet!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game looked promising when it was being showed prior to release but this far exceeds anything I could have hoped for. I wish there was a little more variety in the characters but the nemesis system gives them so much personality that it doesn't really matter in the end. If you ever liked playing the assassins creed series or the batman arkham series and you are in to the lord of the rings series of movies or books this is a must have.
