If you played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, it's basically exactly the same. Just new locations and monsters to hunt. Of course they have added some new weapons and abilities as well. If you haven't played any of the previous games, then you're in for a treat. It has kind of an intense learning curve, but once you figure everything out you are guaranteed to have hours of game play (seriously you can play this game for hundreds of hours. No joke!).

MH4U is probably by far the most complete Monster Hunter game in the franchise. This game takes time to dive into, but once you master just one weapon, you will have tons of fun playing it. Not mention there are 14 type of weapons to choose from, so players will sink a massive number of hours into it if one wish to complete and master all type of weapons. Interesting monsters and new monsters added compare to previous titles, along with the village and island events can be done. Been a long time MH fan, this is by far the best purchase.

This game is a great game for any 3DS owner. It features great graphics and gameplay. If you are new to the series it's a little hard when you first start playing, but becomes an incredibly fun and addictive game to play. This is the finest the series has had to offer. It is packed with new features like the ability to jump and mount monsters. With tons of content, and online multiplayer, this is one of the best games on the 3DS. If you aren't sure, check out the free demo in the NIntendo E-Shop and see for yourself.

I have played only 2 monster hunter games before this one and really enjoyed them. They are difficult yet fun but this one is a bit more noob friendly and is easier while you learn. It does ramp up fairly quickly and you really must learn the patterns and fighting styles and you are rewarded for your time playing it. Multiplayer and other features are easier to use and it just feels better to me. So to me this is one of the best ones out there, Freedom Wars a close second if you enjoy the theme.

I was a little hesitant on getting MH4 because I never played a MH game but heard nothing but good things about it. The game take a little to get used to for gamers new to the series but once you have the hang of it you cant stop hunting. There are TONS of missions that will keep you busy and rare monsters you have to track down. Some of them are not easy to take down but with online functions, making a party and hunting together has never been easier.

The Verdict Just when you think the fight is over in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the next challenger steps in and ups the level of competition for another satisfying round of combat and loot. Very few games can hook me in for 100 hours, but this installment adds enough new creatures, weapons, locations, and fighting moves to expand and reinvigorate my lust for the hunt.

Best Game in the Series to Date

Where can I begin with this game? The content within is almost ridiculously high, with 93 different monsters to hunt, hundreds of different armors and weapons to craft, and with the availability of the online mode, questing with friends (or even complete strangers!) has never been easier. It sounds cliche, but this game is the definitive Monster Hunter entry in my eyes now. The new features, like mounting and the two new weapon classes, add some flavour to the mix, but the base formula still stands strong; hunt monsters, craft weapons and armor, hunt stronger monsters, craft stronger weapons and armor, ad infinitum. While this may seem like it would eventually become a bore, the sheer breadth of content prevents that before somewhere around the 120-hour mark for most people, with many other, more serious players pouring as many as 300+ hours into this game. If you're still apprehensive, the Nintendo eShop has a demo of the game available that I would highly recommend for beginners.

I bought this knowing there is a certain fanbase it caters to. I'm new to the series but it definitely helps ease in newbies like me. This game is really fun if you like fighting monsters to gain loot and get better gear and weapons. It's definitely fun playing single player but a blast to play online multiplayer. There are a lot of nuisances to get use to (weapons and icons)but once you learn them there is no going back.

MH4U is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise. A wealth of content awaits those who are veterans of the series. The game is approachable enough so that complete newbies/beginners to this universe are not lost either - although the depth of content may seem overwhelming at first! Plenty of tutorials and quests of ascending difficulty will ensure that all players are properly acclimated to the series.

I got this game to go with my new 3DS XL. I had never played any of the Monster Hunter series, so I didn't know what to expect. Well...it is awesome. The game has some great RPG elements and action. The game is seriously deep with configurations, weapons, and items. There is a bit of a learning curve, but not too bad. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes RPG, action/adventure type games.

Bought this game for a good value ($40- $10 BBGC= $30) overall. Team up with friends online to crush all types of monsters. The best weapons to look for are a staff that allows you to summon with a beatle. It also allows you to effortlessly vault on to the monsters back and pummel them. The charge sword/ shield combo is also a superb weapon to find. If you like action RPGs this is a great game to own.

MH4U is a culmination of all the best elements of the Monster Hunter games refined. Old players will enjoy what the higher ranks have to offer while new players will be eased in to the game better than ever before. There is a learning curve, but once you start killing bigger monsters to craft better gear, you will not want to stop. Great for single player even better with online co-op.

    Top Tier Action RPG

Games do not get any higher caliber than this on the 3DS system. MH4U is an action-rpg that revolves around learning monster's behaviors and striking with your weapon's strengths when you have an opening. Mistakes are expected to cost you, and once you reach the upper tier G-rank levels a single mistake could mean death. Successful monster hunts reward you with monster materials which you can then use to craft armor and weapons with models (and stats) based off the monster which provided the materials. This is the first Monster Hunter game to have a decent single-player campaign which provides a decent story and introduction to the gameplay. Most people however will find themselves enjoying the multiplayer/online component, which allows you to play with 3 other hunters offline or online. I have to give Capcom credit; the game runs online quite smoothly, with only extremely rare issues (random disconnects, etc.) even when playing with people on a different continent. To top it off, Capcom also provides free monthly DLC releases which are composed of special event quests which include monster hunts or equipment rewards you wouldn't have access to otherwise. If you're jumping into the game late, don't worry, all the previous dlc is still available for you to download.

Bought it on a whim from Reddit users commending the quality and fun factor of the game. 10 hours in the first two days and I'm the type where I stop every 30 minutes to do something else. So much to do, so little time to do all the hunts to build up my gear and there's even a bonus calico that goes with you as a teammate. I named him after my cat. Get it!

I've put over 100 hours into this game, and I'll probably put another 100 more without getting tired of it. The monster fights are fun, and the combat never gets stale. There are so many weapons and armors to choose from, and each weapon has a unique play style. The multiplayer is where this game really shines, it's awesome to play with friends.

As the title says. This game will slap you around and make you want to quit. If you can make it past the overall feeling of being overwhelmed, this game can literally offer THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay. With online, it is able to stretch it's legs even more. Buy this game if you want a challenge, or if you yearn for the difficulty of yore.

I've played the past games. For player who have also played the others you'll not be let down. They've done away with water levels, not something I miss. Also there are more weapon option, two new ones plus all the old ones, so no need to worry about your old trusty weapon type not being there. Lost more monsters to hunt. I will note the starting land the monsters stats seems to be cranked down, so no your not super skilled out over powdered wait for LR3 and the monster will go back to grinding you in to the ground. For new players to the MH game this is s good game to get in on it. The first land is very forgiving to new players even going as far as giving you the option to missing that key on using a weapon type, so that you can learn how to use them. While the first area is easy it's not long so you won't stay board. Also with online MP and local MP you'll have lots of people to group up with. This is a nice add-on to the game as with be for you could only do online play from the Wii, by moving your data from your DS to the Wii. Now it's all in one, saving the trouble of moving data to and from the DS to the Wii.

Get Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate now, beginners can learn from the tutorial in the beginning.(Shouldn't skip if you don't know the controls) The fights are good, and you need to search for items while you are on a quest to make new items and armor. If you have difficulty with the game play online to take down the boss. Enjoy!

Previous Monster Hunter games are really hard for beginners but Capcom really pulled it together this time. Now this game is still hard but you will learn over time what to do and how to do it. It can be very cryptic at times so maybe a Strategy Guide might be recommended. It also has 4 player online co-op and local co-op.
