Very pleased with this laptop. Specs terrific (storage, memory, processor, screen size, 4 USB ports instead of the usual 3) and I especially love the 4K screen resolution. Runs great. I use it mostly for games and photos and videos.
There were a number of concerns because of written poor reviews so I had Geek Squad Total Support check out the MSI, test software/games and update drivers. They found no issues with any of the written problems others experienced. They kept it 3 days and a number of them ran games without problems.
They did suggest backing off the resolution if playing high energy requiring games for a while or getting a cooling pad ($20) because of possible heat issues. Keys became slightly warm but no where near the meltdown one reviewer said.
I found the 4 speakers and subwoofer very good for a laptop but really, if you're a gamer, get quality headset or external speakers.
Best Buy did a price match and I took advantage of huge discounts on top on their line Logitech Mouse 50% and Logitech headset $50 and Canon Pixel printer $30. And LG external disk. I won't mention a number but the price match on the MSI was huge. Oh, and I used my BB credit card and got 5% back in rewards.
One slight negative remark. This laptop was designed to be as thin and light as possible. Does not have the rugged feel an Alienware has at twice the weight. The case bends/gives way when two-finger pressure put on it. My 4 year old HP laptop feels much sturdier with no case flexing.
The laptop comes in a sturdy black box with a molded plastic insert that the Laptop fits snugly in. I suggest saving that box and using it as an extra layer of protection when transporting.

This sleek machine was everything I hoped it would be. Powerful processor, strong GPU with plenty of memory, and it is a 17.3" 4k screen. I build and publish a magazine for work and screen resolution matters. Its really hard to open up a full page and see the detail I need on anything less than 1600px vertical. The fans do get going pretty good when your in 4k at 100-125% scaling but nothing that was worth trading portability for. I would suggest pumping up the memory and dumping the 2TB HDD for a faster and lighter SSD as I did. As the title suggests I loved.. I did have to return the laptop. Nothing was wrong with it in any way it was actually my eyes that let me down. After a week of working on this laptop at 4k / 100-125% scaling my eyes were giving me constant headaches. Even with cheaters on its just too small of a screen to use the resolution I wanted. Hope this helps

Really liked this gaming laptop until the cooling fan began to fail. Awful wailing and overheating. It is being promptly replaced so no harm.
The only negative is the sound is just terrible for gaming. Get a set of headphones.

I needed to replace my old MSI gaming laptop and went with this because I loved the old one and it is extremely thin & light. This has been a huge disappointment. It runs very hot, the fans are exceptionally loud and it has issues running basic Microsoft Office programs. Office programs take forever to open and then freeze when scrolling. I think the 4K screen is the culprit. It is incredibly frustrating getting anything work-related done. Games run fine, but you need headphones to drown out the fans and a lapdesk with additional fans to keep it from getting too hot.
