Battery lasts only an hour. I suspect that the seller replaced the original battery with a low quality aftermarket one. Opening the case, the battery inside has no part number or any label.

Bought this for my 10 year old for the holidays. I would describe him as a casual gamer - things like Ark Survival Evolved, Roblox, and Fortnite. It’s a very good starting gaming computer for him. The pluses - He can play all the titles he likes on high settings (not max but one level below). It’s fast (as new computers are) and the specs for the Black Friday sales price of $749 were pretty strong. For his gaming tastes I think a 6GB video card was a must and the 1660Ti is a bit below the 2060 but not enough for us to justify the extra (but everyone is different). Same with the 9th Gen I7 - the 10% difference for the comparable 10th Gen I7 just wasn’t something I needed to hold firm for. The minuses - All the criticisms I read are also true - it runs hot when gaming (buy a separate fan stand with USB ports), it is a little plastic-y (be careful with it and treat it like you care about it), the battery life is not that long (keep it plugged in with max battery saving settings), the MSI software suite is ... eh, the microphone really works best if you face the computer and is a bit spotty if you’re leaning back in your chair away from the computer but fine otherwise and it has acceptable but not excellent memory specs (we haven’t needed to upgrade the included 8GB of RAM yet because it’s primarily for gaming and not multi-tasking but there are plenty of cheap upgrades available) and 512gb SSD will last a few more months but will need to be added to eventually and there’s a separate M2 drive slot for that. Overall for the low price and as an introductory gaming computer it’s working well. If you’re very discerning about everything there’s plenty to nitpick as I laid out above. Of all the points I think I would highlight that buying a separate fan stand with extra USB ports would be my number one recommendation for the computer but otherwise, just enjoy.

It’s my first time buying a gaming laptop so I wasn’t sure which to pick among acer nitro, asus tuf, dell g13?, lenovo legion 5, and msi. I picked msi in the end to give it a try. The graphics and processor are both good. I could open the laptop on and do nothing, however the battery would go quick. Minus one star for the battery life. Since I already had a MacBook for school, battery life isn’t a big deal for me. Secondly I recommend buying 8Gb RAM for this model. You could just pop up the back and buy your own ram to add it up to 16gb RAM. Idk why it lags when I play league of legends, probably because I don’t know how to change the settings. I played Star Wars battlefront 2017, it runs smoothly on that. It also runs smoothly on Genshin impact. However, it was laggy the first time I boot up Genshin. Another thing I liked about this laptop was that it boots up quick. Just hit the power button and it’ll show the password screen in 3-5sec. The touch pad and the power button both are badly designed. I rather use the mouse for this laptop. It’s sound quality is good too, though not that big a deal for me because I wear headphones. It’s fans are loud, so I wouldn’t recommend for school use if you want it for note taking.

I suspect that MSI contracts for lower grade parts

This is a gaming computer. This product competes reasonably well with my 4 year old high end desktop. The CPU actually outperforms my desktop's i7-6700k by some metrics. Bear in mind you cannot overclock the CPU, but with my benchmarking programs, simulating actual load, it got up to 4.2 Ghz reliably and was far more likely to power throttle or thermal throttle (in that order) than reach full load. During those benchmarks I don't think I ever saw full utilization of the CPU. My system scored in the very middle of the XTU Benchmark curve for its build. The GPU is advertised at 80% of the capability of my desktop's GTX 1070. In reality, I saw about 75% of its power during benchmarking. My GPU performs in the high end of the performance curve for this hardware, but I did overclock it using MSI Afterburner. In game, I rarely noticed the difference, but actual fps matches the power difference. One very nice thing is that the screen is 144hz. This can be downgraded to 60hz using Windows settings (for power saving,) but screen tearing is much worse at 60hz. It runs Cyberpunk 2077 at highest settings at about 45fps, compared to a PS5 which can do 60fps, but only by enabling dynamic resolution and lowering some settings. The GTX 1660TI is not capable of ray-tracing, however, but I haven't even seen that tech in action, so I literally don't know what I'm missing. I took off a star because the build quality is suspect. I removed the back panel to add a second stick of RAM and another m.2 SSD, and during disassembly my wifi card became dislodged, damaging the pins in the slot. This means that my wifi card is now broken, requiring an expensive technician repair, with the factory seal broken... I will be adding a $9 USB WIFI dongle to my system to circumvent this issue, but I am troubled that this occurred at all. I have built my own PC, I have serviced multiple PCIE connected parts. I know what the slot is capable if withstanding before failure, (because I have pushed them to failure before,) and the slot should not have been damaged by that level of interaction. I suspect that MSI contracts for lower grade parts to compensate for higher end specs at a reasonable price.

I picked this guy up for $750 on a pre black friday sale. It arrived yesterday and i spent last night loading it up. As a former compter tech and a casual gamer i thought i would share my thoughts. Overview: Great value for the price! It is quick, responsive and smooth. It runs ms office apps like a champ. I am playing World of warcraft at max settings with continual smoothness and it looks great. Boot up time is a few seconds. It performs like an i7 with a 1660ti should and for $750 its an incredible buy. Pros: lightweight, fast processing, ram is a single stick of 8gb - so to upgrade you only need to add another stick of 8. Many laptops that come with 8gb use 2 sticks of 4gb so upgrading means you have to buy 2 sticks of 8gb. Price point is excellent at $750. Cons: out of the box it isnt optimized for gaming, and the msi utility doesnt help much. I had to manually configure the laptop to use the 1660ti for WoW. It did not choose to on its own. The colors on the screen are a little flat. My sons HP has signicantly better color in WoW BUT he is a more avid gamer and actually likes the flatter color as it made things a touch more realistic. I like WoW to look a little more artistic. I also think my daughters ASUS with a 1650 seems to handle environmental textures like grass a little better. All 3 laptops were purchased for $750 each over the past year during different sales. The red keyboard light is rough after a short while. I think i will be turning it off. The ASUS keyboard backlight is much better. Touchpad is stiff and not smooth. Good enough for productivity but not for gaming. There is no separate number pad and no highlight around the W, A, S and D keys. The ASUS keyboard has these things and is much easier to type on. Final thoughts: my uses for this laptop are graphic work, video editing and casual gaming. If the ASUS line of comparable products were not currently plagued with bios issues i might consider returning this one for an ASUS. I still might. The basic takeaway is if you prefer less vivid color that might be a little more realistic, and you can tolerate the keyboard and trackpad, and you can get it for $750 - this is an awesome laptop. For its regular price of $1k i would consider my other options.

Battery won't hold charge over an hour and when plugged in since the day we got it the battery plugged in says 74% and after 1 hour unplugged it goes dead. I would recommend getting 16gb instead of the 8gb if you are a gamer. I only play one game and I get messages all the time that it is taking all the memory and high usage. I also have to have a fan under it when gaming or it overheats. Good laptop for everyday use but would not recommend for gaming

This IS indeed 144HZ. Picked it up on Black Friday for 750. Make sure you get another 8GB DDR4 2666MHz Sodimm Ram Stick with this and you're good to go. Super Light Weight and Sleek.

I got this on sale for the Black Friday price of $750, and it is absolutely worth every penny! This laptop has a sharp 144hrtz screen, i7 processor, 6 GB 1660 TI and a fast 512 GB NVME drive. It only has 8 GB of RAM, but I found another 8 GB RAM stick for $30 that I will be adding in to bump it to 16 GB total. I've played Far Cry New Dawn at 90 FPS on high settings and Dark Souls 3 at a locked 60, and I've also played VR with my Oculus Quest 2 using a link cable on this laptop. VR games like Walking Dead Saints and Sinners work great and run smoothly, and I am overall really happy with this purchase!

I really wanted a gaming laptop that could handle *most* games I would be interested in as well as online work. It's been six months, and this is what I have to say (READ THE BOTTOM) Pros: Very fast, great graphics, great sound, handles pretty much every game Cons: Gets hot fast, battery life doesn't last, not very portable IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ): It's almost been six months after purchasing and I had my laptop plugged in while watching a movie. I went to grab something to drink and when I came back to my laptop, I noticed it had turned off and came back on. I was confused by this since it had never done this prior, but I made no deal of it and continued my movie. While plugged in as usual (otherwise it dies in about 30 minutes of use), it continuously popped up "Battery Low, Please Plug In" warnings. I had 6% of my battery left, it bluescreened, came back on and then died. I felt absolutely dreadful because I paid nearly $900 dollars for what I wanted to be a well functioning laptop. It turns out, while plugged in, the charger (I thought) was not working AT ALL. Not wanting it to be the laptop itself, my boyfriend bought me a replacement charger. The replacement charger came in, and I plugged it in... the charger itself worked but just like with the other charger, the battery light (that lights up when charging) was not coming on *at all*. I looked up tons of guides and tried everything on my end that I could safely attempt with guidance, but there's only so much you can do with a dead laptop that will not power on OR charge. I'm assuming for the time being that the charging port in my laptop was somehow fried from either overuse, or some kind of power surge that may or may not have happened (there was no storm of any kind at the time of the incident). I just put in my repair ticket online to MSI and am waiting to find out if I can even get it fixed or not. It's only been 6 months, and my boyfriend has had his MSI for over a year now and also keeps it plugged in every day. I am very frustrated this happened, as I rely on my laptop to keep me connected with friends and family as well as my hobbies *and* work. ALSO, if you do plan on buying something as expensive as this and have no history with them (like I did)... please please PLEASE do not throw out ANY papers that come with your laptop. I did not know any better and that is exactly what I did, which could make your path to fix something like this even more difficult. Also PLEASE do not remove any important stickers on your laptop like I did, I did not know any better until now.

This is an all around good gaming laptop for its price. It has enough speed and performance. However I had to give it a 4 star because out of the box the 8gb ram shows in its performance. My advice would be upgrade to at least 32gb ASAP. I went with 64gb myself because I believe in overkill. All in all this is a good product.

Better than the Base Exchange! Excellent purchase for the price! Exceeds all expectations for performance on gaming and normal school operations. Best Buy ships laptops to overseas active duty military personnel and their families, whereas, the Base Exchange could not even ship the lap top to me when they ran out of stock on base. I could not order the laptop through the base, but I got an even better laptop for cheaper from Best Buy!
