Great laptop that needs a cooling pad.

Overall, a great laptop. My only concern is that it has a tendency to run hot and loud when doing tasks that require a lot of processing power. Because of this, I would not be comfortable using this laptop without some sort of cooling pad.

    "Gaming laptop", seriously?

I'm not sure how MSI dares to call this a "gaming laptop"? The keyboard doesn't register some basic multi-key presses! Pressing Q to sprint and W for forward, it doesn't register D for strafe or space bar to jump. That is so basic for a gaming laptop. Also, the incessant whine, even when sitting idle, gave me a headache. What a pain to use this thing. Returned.

Do Not Get If You Want VR or External Monitors

Marketed as VR Ready, this laptop is not Ready for VR. all the external ports are only wired into the Intel Graphics Card and not the Nvidia Graphics Card, so you will not be able to use any high-quality external monitors or VR setups with the laptop. Confirmed this information with MSI Tech Support who basically told me to "f off."

Temperature and fan reliability is problematic.

Good graphics for the price point. Runs most games ok. Internal heat monitoring is problematic. Frequently reports higher CPU temp than exists resulting in higher fan noise. CPU fan failed 11 months after purchase. MSI support indicated there are no metrics or expected life expectancy for this critical component. That is an absurd statement. Order replacement part and same thing happened at 8 months of use. Best case after next fix is this could a good paper weight.

Disappointed about VR, but good machine

I bought this machine to connect with my Oculus Quest. I think it is more the fault of the Quest website that said that any NVIDIA RTX 20s would work. Unfortunately that has changed and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max Q will not work with VR. It will work slowly with Windows Mixed Reality, but the graphics card barely cuts it. It works well on multiple monitors for me. It will be useful when I am writing code or playing Non VR games. If you really want this machine and want it to play VR, you can do what I am going to do and purchase an external graphics card enclosure and a better graphics card.

Thin and light, decent gaming performance. It is not as powerful as a desktop, but good enough for most of the modern games.

    Insanely loud fan

    Posted .

Its a good overall computer, but any upside that it has is completely null with how insanely loud this fan is. Its almost unusable to me because the sound overshadows any digital sound coming from the computer, whether it be a game, a video, or a song, the fan just overtakes everything. Incredibly obnoxious, no matter what I do I can't get the fan to calm down. I've gone into system settings to reduce the fan, but when I reduced it to a reasonable volume the temperature raised from 30 degrees celcius to 70, which is just insane. I've never owned a computer to be this loud in my life, there shouldn't be a reason for a computer to be as loud as this thing is, but clearly since they really wanted a computer to be both slim and fit for gaming they had to set it up with some serious cooling.
